Digital Vision and MTI Film form Strategic Partnership to Create Grading and Control Dailies Workflow

(Los Angeles, CA) Digital Vision and MTI Film have formed a strategic technology partnership to develop a new digital dailies software solution, built upon Digital Vision’s Nucoda colour grading system and the MTI’s Cortex::ControlDailies solution. Introduced this morning at IBC in Amsterdam, the announcement marks the development of a previously unavailable dailies product in the marketplace, built upon two powerful technologies.

Nucoda Look with Cortex::ControlDailies will soon be available as a software package that offers a unique set of integrated features to enable users to seamlessly move the Cortex grades into the Nucoda Look for more precise and controlled “near-set” grading and preparation for final grade. The new package pushes the boundaries of the digital dailies process by offering a simple and powerful production process from set to final colour grading.

In addition to their on-set dailies offering, MTI Film Los Angeles is a leading post production facility serving motion pictures and television projects for major studios and networks, with multiple Nucoda Film Master systems at the center of their colour operations. Recently, they provided remote control dailies for Warner Horizon Televisions’ reboot Dallas. It was during that project, where dailies were moved into Nucoda for final ultimate grading, that MTI Film and Digital Vision were propelled to form the new alliance.

Larry Chernoff, CEO of MTI Film commented, “We have worked closely with the team at Digital Vision for many years, and have found them to consistently bring creative ideas to every project. This partnership is a continuation of our successful collaboration, and we see it as an important service and product for anyone that hopes for powerful colour coherency from day one of dailies to the final delivery.”

Kelvin Bolah, Managing Director, Digital Vision says, “Our intention is to provide a cost effective high-end solution for on-set and near-set dailies that benefit our clients by combining the best experience with MTI’s dailies processing and the industry’s best colour correction solution.”

MKE 600 shotgun microphone for video journalists

The new MKE 600 shotgun microphone from audio specialist Sennheiser provides video journalists with a microphone that can master even the toughest video sound challenges. Its high level of directivity ensures that it picks up sound from the camera direction with minimal background noise. The switchable low-cut filter makes sure that handling and wind noise is also minimized. Users can expect a very lifelike, full-bodied sound with good bass response, as well as pleasant speech reproduction with high intelligibility.

“Reporting and media productions have an increasingly broad base nowadays, with information needing to be transmitted extremely quickly. This means that the technology used has to be as uncomplicated as possible,” explained Kai Lange, Product Manager Wired Microphones at Sennheiser. “With the MKE 600, we are presenting the ideal microphone for video journalists who want to produce a report or a film in perfect video and audio quality but do not wish to resort to highly professional shotgun microphones or a separate wireless link. In developing the MKE 600, we paid particular attention to achieving a high level of directivity and a balanced sound.”

A shock mount with an integral flashmount adapter is included to enable the sturdy MKE 600 to be fixed to a video camera without difficulties. The special design of the shock mount prevents handling noise from being transmitted to the microphone. Like any other shotgun microphone, the MKE 600 can also be used on a microphone boom.

Independent of phantom powering
For cameras that do not provide phantom power, the MKE 600 can be powered by a standard AA battery. A switch is provided to deactivate the battery power when the camera is not in use, thus preventing the battery from being discharged. An LED on the battery switch (“Low Batt”) indicates when the battery voltage is low, at which point the video journalist still has a reserve of around eight hours – “built-in recording security,” as Kai Lange explained.

Professional accessories
The MKE 600 comes fully equipped with a foam windshield that reduces wind noise by around 25 dB; the shock mount and a carrying case are also included. For outside broadcasting, a ‘blimp’ basket windshield (MZH 600) – a combined foam windshield and hairy cover that reduces wind noise more effectively than a foam windshield – is available as an optional accessory. A further option is a coiled connecting cable (KA 600) from an XLR-3 connector to a 3.5 mm jack plug.

The MKE 600 will be available in the U.S. at B&H Photo / Video in late September.

Professional sound for video filming: the MKE 600 camera microphone from Sennheiser

Whether it is an afternoon at the zoo, a special holiday video or your very own video documentary, a video camera is always a treasured companion on such special occasions and creative projects. And discerning video enthusiasts often have the highest demands when it comes to sound quality in particular. To meet these demands, audio specialist Sennheiser just unveiled a new camera microphone at IBC in Amsterdam: the MKE 600 shotgun microphone.

“The MKE 600 was developed for video journalists who want superior sound quality coupled with uncomplicated handling – benefits that amateur video enthusiasts will also appreciate,” said Kai Lange, product manager wired microphones at Sennheiser. “In developing the MKE 600, we paid particular attention to achieving a high level of directivity and a balanced sound.”

Top-quality sound for successful videos
The shotgun microphone offers a very lifelike, full-bodied sound with good bass reproduction, while ensuring pleasant speech reproduction with high intelligibility. Thanks to its high level of directivity, the MKE 600 will pick up sound from the camera direction while avoiding unwanted background noise – making sure that the sound is always right next to the image. Handling and wind noise is significantly reduced by a switchable low-cut filter.

Independent of phantom powering
As not all video cameras provide phantom power for a microphone, phantom power for the MKE 600 can also be supplied by a standard AA battery. A switch is provided to deactivate the battery power when the camera is not in use, thus preventing the battery from being discharged. An LED on the battery switch (“Low Batt”) indicates when the battery voltage is low, after which there is still a reserve of around eight hours – plenty of time to complete a video even if you do not have a new battery readily available.

Professional accessories
The MKE 600 comes fully equipped with a foam windshield that reduces wind noise by around 25 dB. Also included is a carrying case and an elastic shock mount with an integral flashmount adapter for fixing the sturdy MKE 600 to the video camera. The special design of the shock mount prevents handling noise from being transmitted to the microphone.

For outdoor videos, a ‘blimp’ (MZH 600) – a combined foam/hairy cover windshield – which reduces wind noise more effectively than a foam windshield – is available as an optional accessory. A further option is a coiled connecting cable (KA 600) from an XLR-3 connector to a 3.5 mm jack plug.

The MKE 600 will be available at B&H Photo / Video beginning in late September.

VUE Audiotechnik’s Demo Tour Crosses the U.S. and Back Again

Be among the first to hear VUE Audiotechnik’s complete family of professional loudspeakers when the company’s U.S. demo tour passes through a city near you.

San Diego, CA (Sept. 7, 2012) - Responding to increasing demand after a series of highly successful demos in August, VUE leadership today announced plans to expand the U.S. leg of their tour another eight weeks-hitting key demo sites throughout North America before expanding globally.

“This is very different from the typical loudspeaker demo in that we’re meeting with potential customers at their own facilities, and demonstrating our entire line,” explained VUE’s Executive Vice President, Jim Sides. “This format not only allows potential customers to audition our entire range, but it presents our team with an opportunity to better understand each customer’s unique business model. This is the type of personalized demo that I’ve always wanted to do, and we’re thrilled that people are responding so well to the format and to our products.”

The demo tour features a full complement of VUE Audiotechnik’s current offerings. Identified by VUE’s CEO Ken Berger as the “first wave”, the current lineup was revealed at the InfoComm show in Vegas last June. It includes three product classes encompassing a broad range of systems, from the most compact contractor offerings, to VUE’s flagship h-Class Active models. Berger reports that a “second wave” is scheduled to arrive before the end of the year, and that those new products will be incorporated into the tour at that time.

“The VUE speakers clearly appeal to a diverse customer base,” explained Steve Gorski of The SG Group, VUE Audiotechnik’s representative in the Southwest U.S., and an active participant in the first six stops of the tour. “From touring sound to AV integrators, the demos we’ve conducted have generated enthusiastic feedback across the board, and the resulting ‘word of mouth’ is fueling intense interest throughout the audio community. The momentum is definitely building, and I’m incredibly excited to be a part of it.”

The VUE team is conducting demos this week in Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. From there, the demo tour moves to Florida and Georgia (Sept. 9-15), before heading north to New York and other northeast states. The tour will then turn west, booking additional stops throughout October.

Those interested in participating in the demo tour are encouraged to contact their local VUE Audiotechnik representative. Contact information, as well as an ever-growing list of tour stops, can be found online at: www.vueaudio.com/events/

New Runco XtremeProjection Series Lights Up the Big Screen Experience at Home

Indianapolis, IN – CEDIA Expo 2012 – September 6-8, 2012 – Booth #3531 – Runco International, the leading brand in luxury display solutions and part of the global leader in specialty display solutions Planar Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ: PLNR), is launching an extraordinary new family of projection systems, the XtremeProjection™ series, starting with three innovative models: the X-200i, X-400d, and X-450d.

Designed specifically for the custom installer who specializes in high-end theaters and appreciates craftsmanship and video quality, the XtremeProjection Series projector fills maximum screen sizes from 171 to 235 inches wide—the equivalent of up to a 270-inch diagonal video image—and rely on a combination of state-of-the-art DLP-based SuperOnyx™ technology and proprietary electronics, processing, and optics to deliver stunning images from both 2D and 3D sources.

“Runco’s legacy in incomparable visual experiences continues with this new XtremeProjection series,” said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing for Runco. “These new systems demonstrate our commitment to the success of dealers and the delight of their clients, with exceptional video performance, beautiful 3D performance, and the features and options that make Runco a perfect fit for any theater design, all at a great price.”

The XtremeProjection series projectors come equipped with three pairs of active 3D glasses, and rely on frame sequential 3D technology to ensure that users can enjoy 2D and 3D content on the same screen, with full 1080p HD resolution delivered to both eyes.
All three new projectors in the lineup are also available with Runco’s exclusive, award-winning CineWide™ and CineWide with AutoScope™ lens technology option. The first and leading 2.35:1 projection solution, CineWide has since been adopted industry wide to deliver a stunning recreation of the theatrical experience with 2.35:1 aspect ratio movies.
In addition to supporting all video aspect ratios without any loss of image integrity, these new XtremeProjection Series projectors excel at enhancing even the most problematic digital and analog signals to near-high-definition quality, without adversely affecting the quality of native HD content. And as with all Runco projectors, the XtremeProjection Series was designed with integration options and installation flexibility in mind. With primary lens options, Runco authorized dealers can design theaters with throw distances from 0.77:1 to 6.76:1.

As for model specifics, the X-200i is a single-chip DLP projector that, uncalibrated, measures 1430 ANSI lumens and, when calibrated to Runco’s CSMS™ specifications, achieves a light output of 50 Foot-Lamberts (fL). The X-400d shines over 2100 ANSI lumens (uncalibrated), with a contrast ratio of over 10000:1, and can deliver 52 fL of brightness when calibrated. The X-450d boasts a brightness of over 3780 ANSI lumens, or a stunning 94 fL of brightness when calibrated to CSMS standards.

While the X-200i features integrated processing, the X-400d and X-450d also ship with Runco’s new Dimension Digital Controller™ (DC-300), which has been engineered to enhance 3D performance. This 2U outboard controller provides a level of flexibility and control not commonly found in integrated processors, and provides Runco installers with a full suite of calibration tools necessary to achieve a perfect picture, no matter the viewing environment. The DC-300 offers advanced connectivity options, as well as installation flexibility. With a single-wire connection from the processor to the projector, this rack mounted component is the ideal solution for retrofit installations. All three models incorporate the ISF™ (Imaging Science Foundation) calibration suite for optimal performance, including ISF Day and ISF Night presets for the ultimate video performance any time of day.

The sleek XtremeProjection Series chassis can also be customized with Runco’s ColourPalette™ design options, which provide Runco customers with a unique level of personalization and customization that reflects their own individual styles and décors. ColourPalette aids the integrator in crafting a truly one-of-a-kind design-focused alternative to the ubiquitous, commodity display products that rarely aligned with the aesthetic of the luxury home.

This new series will begin shipping in September 2012, with retail prices starting at $14,995 for the X-200i. The X-400d is $34,995 and X-450d is $39,995, including the DC-300. Additional costs apply for lens and CineWide options. As with all Runco projectors, all three XtremeProjection Series models feature a two-year RuncoCare™ standard warranty. Runco RedCarpet™ and PremierCare™ extended service options are also available. The new Runco XtremeProjection Series projectors are available exclusively through Runco’s authorized dealer network.
