Aker Solutions uses projectiondesign for iPort simulation centre
Industry-leading oil and gas industry visualization benefits from 3D projection
Employing over 18,000 people worldwide, Aker Solutions is a leading global services company that provides engineering services, technologies, products and field-life solutions for the oil and gas industry.
“The iPort simulators show virtual images of real offshore constructions and environments,” explains Marita Mæland, Sales and Marketing Co-Ordinator for the iPort. “Each offshore installation is meticulously copied and re-created as a virtual asset in a simulated environment. We then use these ‘virtual versions’ of real installations for testing, design and staff training purposes, to optimise operational processes and procedures, and to fine-tune equipment performance and drilling sequences.”
“The beauty of the iPort simulators is that all this development work takes place ‘off the critical line’ – in other words, the work is done without affecting the day-to-day operation of the real-world installations.
“Having access to complex information in the form of 3D simulated images simplifies project planning and execution, clarifies communications and reduces risk and cost for our customers. “
The result of years of detailed programming by Aker Solutions’ software development teams in Norway, Russia and Ukraine, the simulators used at iPort offer a unique approach that satisfies the needs of a wide range of clients. The iPort centre continues to be upgraded and is one of several such centres operated by Aker Solutions globally, all of which use projectiondesign.
Anders Løkke, Director of International Marketing, projectiondesign, comments: “Aker Solutions has a long tradition of industrial innovation and we are delighted that our projection technology forms a part of the cutting-edge work they are doing in increasing operational efficiency in the oil and gas industries.
“Wherever they have been used, our 3D projection solutions offer industry-leading levels of accuracy and reliability, providing a rapid return on investment not only for the companies that operate these simulators, but for their own customers as well.”
