DPA Microphones Displays Range of Broadcast Microphone Solutions at IBC 2012

Company Also Raffles off brand new d:facto Vocal Microphone to Attendees

AMSTERDAM, SEPTEMBER 6, 2012 – DPA Microphones is highlighting its international reputation for distortion-free sound and ergonomic design at IBC 2012 (Stand 8.D70) by showing a range of high-quality microphones that are ideally suited to broadcast applications. Among the products on show will be DPA’s expanded d:fine™ headset microphones series, which recently won Live Design’s Sound Product of the Year Award, and the new d:facto™ handheld vocal mic, which debuted earlier this year.

IBC visitors will have the opportunity to win a ground-breaking d:facto vocal microphone. They must simply stop by the DPA stand and have their badge scanned. One lucky visitor will be chosen at random, and the winner will be announced and contacted after the show.

“With so many television programs now being delivered in High Definition and 5.1 surround sound, demand for high quality microphones for broadcast use has never been greater,” says Christian Poulsen, CEO of DPA Microphones. “DPA is internationally acclaimed for delivering the pristine sound quality that program makers and viewers desire. Our range includes microphones for a wide variety of broadcast applications, and we are confident that they are the best broadcast microphones on the market today in terms of both sound quality and design.”

Offering impressive gain before feedback and very stable construction, DPA’s unobtrusive d:fine headset microphones are easy to fit on any person, providing presenters and guests with a discreet microphone solution that can’t be seen on the face. The d:fine range is renowned for its audio accuracy and its ability to deliver natural voice intelligibility and consistent audio performance at all SPLs. The d:fine capsules are so small that they are virtually invisible, leaving presenters free to focus on their performance, safe in the knowledge that these hand-built microphones will deliver high-quality, distortion-free sound.

d:fine is available in both directional and omnidirectional options, in single or dual-ear designs and with long or short booms. Designed to fit comfortably, they adjust to accommodate any ear size and head shape, and can be mounted on either the left or right side of the head. Available in black, beige, brown and lime green, each solution performs spectacularly in either cabled or wireless settings and can accommodate a range of accessories including windscreens, power supplies and adapters or cables with fixed connectors (MicroDot, three-pin Lemo, TA4F mini XLR, Mini-jack).

DPA Microphones d:facto handheld vocal mic bridges the gap between live stage performances and studio recordings. Already put through its paces on several TV shows, including Voice of Denmark, a standard format TV show broadcast in several countries, the d:facto offers an exceptionally natural sound, high separation from nearby sound sources and extreme sound level handling. This microphone is ideal for live music broadcasting as it combines a supercardioid pattern with superb definition to give high separation and true sound color on stage. Similar to all DPA mics, d:facto features superior gain before feedback, while the inbuilt three-step pop protection grid effectively removes unwanted noise.

DPA is also showing its lightweight range of miniature microphones that are popular with broadcasters because they deliver excellent speech reproduction and can achieve quality pick up even when they are not directly aimed at the sound source. The company rounds out its line-up with its best-selling and versatile Reference Standard range of microphones that exhibit total transparency in any recording situation and are capable of picking up incredible detail and depth of sound.

SOUND DEVICES INTRODUCES NEW 664 PRODUCTION MIXER AT IBC 2012

New Flagship Mixer Features an Unprecedented Amount of I/O Connectivity and Recording Flexibility

AMSTERDAM, SEPTEMBER 6, 2012 – Sound Devices, experts in audio and video products for field production, unveils the 664 Production Mixer, the newest addition to its best-selling line of field and production mixers, at IBC 2012 (Stand 8.D74). The new flagship in Sound Devices’ line of portable production mixers, the 664 builds upon the powerful features of the 552 Production Mixer and offers expanded input/output connectivity and recording capabilities, along with greater flexibility and ease-of-use. Its six input channels have dedicated controls for trim, fader, pan and PFL. The inputs and four output buses are all recordable, for a total of 10 tracks of recording.

Sound Devices’ 664 contains six ultra-low noise, high-dynamic range transformer-less preamps that accept mic- or line-level signals and include analog peak limiters, high-pass filters, input trim control and direct outputs on every channel. Featuring full analog audio paths for high-performance audio and superb power efficiency, the 664 also has numerous digital capabilities. Inputs 1 and 6 are unique in that they can be selected as AES3 or AES42 inputs for digital microphones, each with its own SRC for simplicity in system clocking.

The analog output compliment includes four output buses. The L and R buses are on balanced XLR, 10-Pin, TA-3M connectors, or unbalanced on TA-3M or 3.5mm connectors. Auxiliary output buses X1 and X2 are available on balanced TA-3M connectors. Inputs and buses can be routed to four AES3 connections for eight digital outputs on the XLR and 10-pin connectors.

The 664 can record up to 10 tracks, 16- or 24-bit broadcast WAV files to SD and/or CompactFlash cards. All six inputs and its four outputs are individually selectable for recording, enabling the mixer to record all 10 channels of audio. With its dual card slots, content can be recorded to either or both cards simultaneously, with the added ability to assign individual tracks to each memory card.

Sound Devices also introduces a companion accessory, the CL-6 Expander. The CL-6 is specifically designed to add six analog line-level inputs to the 664 Production Mixer. With the CL-6 attached, the direct output connectors are available as recordable inputs, controlled by faders located on the CL-6 front panel. The CL-6 also offers additional LED output metering and duplicate-recording transport controls. With the 664 Production Mixer connected to the CL-6 Expander, users can now record up to 12 input channels and four outputs, for a total of 16 tracks.

The 664 features an abundance of connectivity options in addition to the main audio I/O, catering to the complex productions that are becoming more common today. It has expanded return-monitoring capabilities, with three separate camera returns as well as a dedicated private line communications connection. The 664, like the 552, has a built-in slate microphone and tone oscillator, and includes a dedicated input for an external slate mike. The internal or external slate mike can be routed to either outputs or to the dedicated comm output. The 664 can easily build a private line communication with a comm return input, separate from camera returns.

“Our customers are looking for more inputs, connectivity, flexibility and power in the field,” says Jon Tatooles, managing director, Sound Devices. “We have taken the strengths and knowledge gained from our existing mixer line and continue to evolve the technology to meet the growing needs of sound mixers. The 664 is how we see the future of high-performance field mixers; they need to have recording capabilities in order to be a fully functional tool in the field.”

Sound Devices’ 664 features an intuitive LCD menu that enables users to simply adjust input settings and offers the capability to see how an input is routed and connected when its settings are altered. The LCD display also enables users to quickly activate the individual tracks that are to be recorded. The Sound Devices 664 features dedicated front panel controls for gain, trim and faders, as well as full-size XLR connectors. The mixer is powered by five AA batteries or external DC power.

The 664 includes a high-precision Ambient-based time-code generator/reader for multi-camera and double-system sound applications. All common production time-code rates and modes are supported. The 664, like all Sound Devices products, is designed to withstand the physical and environmental extremes of field production. Its top and bottom chassis panels are made from molded, metalized carbon fiber for superior durability and weight reduction. The chassis panels are also gasketed for water resistance.

Niles® Unveils Two New Powerful High Fidelity Compact Subwoofers at CEDIA EXPO 2012

Expanding its line of powerful high-fidelity subwoofers, Niles®, The First Name In Custom Installation®, today announced the CEDIA channel introduction of two new stylish compact subwoofers engineered with designers in mind, the SW6.5 and the SW8. The announcement was made at CEDIA EXPO 2012 in Booth #902 of the Indiana Convention Center.

“With these new stylishly-designed compact subwoofers, installers can place a high-powered, highly attractive and easily concealed subwoofer virtually anywhere for a home theater or home audio system,” said Paul Starkey, Chief Marketing Officer of Niles. “These subwoofers outperform their larger rivals and offer superior sound quality and design for all residential installations.”

The SW6.5’s and SW8’s ultra-compact sizes and fingerprint-resistant piano-black finishes present an aesthetically pleasing profile that is easy to blend into any décor. Pairing a long-throw front-firing woofer with dual long-throw side-mounted passive radiators, the compact subwoofers deliver the power of subwoofers four times their size, making them perfect for any setup requiring more bass in less space.

In addition to the designer-friendly features, the SW6.5 and SW8 have even more technical features that make them perfect for the custom installation industry. They both feature automated turn-on via 12 volt trigger or audio signal sensing and include a built in CAT5 balun to enable audio delivery over easy-to-use CAT5 cable. Additionally, both models come with a built-in bracket-mount that is compatible with the optional OmniMount® 30.0 ST-MP to allow easy wall or ceiling mounting, making it perfect for all residential installations. Installers can further increase the subwoofers’ placement flexibility by going wireless with the optional Niles SW-T wireless transceiver and SW-R receiver that easily attaches to a built-in mounting port on the rear of the subwoofers.

As for the audio, the SW6.5 produces 200W RMS power and up to 800W peak power through a 6.5” active driver and two 6.5” passive radiators with a frequency response of 42-200Hz. This unbelievable power is delivered from a cabinet that is smaller than 10 inches-cubed and weighs only 11 pounds.

The SW8 ups the ante, producing 300W RMS power and up to 1200W peak power through an 8” active driver and two 8” passive radiators with a frequency response of 36-200Hz. Once again, this room-filling bass performance comes from an amazingly small cabinet about 12 inches-cubed that weighs only 16.5 pounds.

The subwoofer’s long throw active drivers feature a black anodized aluminum cone that provides superior rigidity compared to conventional paper cone designs. The dual anodized aluminum cone passive radiators provide additional driver surface area that combine with the active driver to produce higher output than a larger single active driver. Both models include both LFE and stereo line level inputs and unbuffered stereo pass-through line outputs, allowing up to four subwoofers to be wired from a single receiver output. The adjustable frequency control features a bypass positions, eliminating low pass filtering within the subwoofer, and variable phase control (0°-180°) allows for precise phase matching with the main speakers.

Pro Audio Technology Announces V-Series Speakers

V stands for value as Pro Audio Technology unveils its most affordable full-range speakers to date.

Indianapolis, IN – CEDIA Expo 2012 – September 5-8 – Sound Room 5 – Pro Audio Technology (PRO), the leader in professional-grade loudspeaker and digital amplifier technology, today announced the new V-Series loudspeakers, designed to deliver the high-impact dynamics for which PRO is known, but at a more affordable price than ever before. Both new models, the SCRS-210v full-range loudspeaker and LFC-12v subwoofer, feature enclosures only 6-inch deep, making deployment of high-output systems in small rooms possible.

The two professional 10” woofers employed in the SCRS-210v create an astonishingly high sound pressure of 102dB with one watt of input and combined, can handle 300W of continuous power. Offering even higher sensitivity, the 1” annular-diaphragm compression driver produces 110dB-per-watt and delivers highs that are both detailed and extended, resulting in an effortless presentation that is both dynamic and life-like in scale. Striking the perfect balance of power and accuracy, the SCRS-210v fills nearly any space with cinema quality sound and concert caliber music without industrial-grade pricing or space requirements.

For added low frequency support, the companion LFC-12v subwoofer features a high-output 12” professional-grade woofer with huge 4” voice coil. With sensitivity rated at 96dB driven with one watt, and power handling up to 700W, the LFC-12v has no problem producing the bone-jarring explosions or visceral slam found in today’s high quality recordings, all from an enclosure only 6” deep.

“For every large theater brought to us, there are at least six to eight small theater projects with smaller budgets but with the same high levels of expectation,” said Paul Hales, Pro Audio Technology founder. “Using intelligent engineering and careful selection of components, we designed the V-Series to deliver the maximum quantity of high resolution sound for the minimum dollar spent.”

At only 14” wide and 6” deep, the SCRS-210v and LFC-12v have been designed for placement inside a 2×6 stud wall or behind the viewing screen for a clean and unobtrusive installation.

As with all PRO products, DSP processing is a must. When paired with the companion PMA amplifier / processor, advanced digital EQ can be applied to compensate for speaker positions near boundaries or for the effects of placement behind viewing screens or fabric. As a system, the PRO V-Series loudspeakers and PMA amplifiers provide a level of sonic accuracy unparalleled at the price.

“Dealers now have an option for price-conscious applications without having to sacrifice the commercial cinema caliber dynamics and output levels we built our business on,” Hales said.

Xantech Launches XtraNet, The First Comprehensive Line of IR-Over-IP Products At CEDIA Expo 2012

Xantech, a leader in the field of audio/video remote control and distribution for over 40 years, today introduced XtraNet, its next generation family of wired and wireless products for integration into commercial and home AV systems, allowing control of any device over an installed IP network. The XtraNet range of products enables native IR, Wi-Fi and serial control of networked A/V devices using any IR remote or wireless, web-enabled iPad®, iPhone®, Android® tablet or Android smartphone. Xantech Chief Marketing Officer, Paul Starkey, made the new introduction at CEDIA EXPO 2012 in Booth #902 of the Indiana Convention Center.

The XtraNet product range includes standalone devices that separately provide native IR control over installed wired or wireless IP networks. A separate device adds serial control capabilities. A master device provides comprehensive system control where multiple XtraNet devices are combined on a network. All XtraNet devices are self-configuring when integrated into any wired network.

Paul Starkey, Chief Marketing Officer of Xantech, stated, “For the first time, there is a comprehensive IR-over-IP product line that provides the contractor and system integrator a complete tool kit to handle any job, from new construction to retro. The XtraNet system is the culmination of our 40 years working in IR, and the XtraLink legacy, which began in the 1980s.”

The XtraNet XLIP200 is a basic IR input and output device that supports native IR I/O over wired networks, to which it interfaces via an RJ-45 connector, and is configured as an input by default. The XLIP400, configured by default as an output, adds support of up to 128 macros. These macros may be accessed via a web page from any computer, tablet, smartphone or similar smart device connected to the network. Alternatively, users may create personalized control pages for the iPhone or iPad using commercially available third party apps. The macros are configured as eight system-wide buttons plus four groups of 30 macro buttons that may be dedicated to specific devices in the A/V system.

The XtraNet XLIP400K Kit combines an XLIP400, DL95 universal IR receiver, four 283D IR emitters and a power supply for applications where a standalone native IR repeater is required. That control can be expanded over a wired network, into a second room, for example, with the addition of an XLIP200. The XLIP400K Kit also provides the flexibility for customers to either use their cable remote/TV remote or universal IR-based remote, as well as an iPhone or iPad, to access those devices.

For applications where serial control is required, the XLIP232 adds bi-directional RS232 support. The device includes memory for 128 macros and offers both serial and IR connections. Serial commands can be extended to another device through the addition of another XLIP232 unit.

Where multiple XtraNet devices are combined in a more complex system, the XLIP800, which supports serial RS232/422/485, IR, digital I/O, telnet, UDP, relays and other functionality, ties the components together through its serial and IR ports. The XLIP800 also supports customizable web pages, enabling control access from an iPad, iPhone, Android tablet or Android smartphone via the wireless smart device’s web browser. Commands sent from the XLIP800 master unit can additionally trigger macros in any network-attached XLIP400, XLIP 600 or XLIP232 devices, combining all of the units into a single, comprehensive A/V control system.

Sunfire Makes Bass Invisible With Debut Of In-Wall 8″ Subwoofer At CEDIA Expo 2012

Sunfire®, a specialist in the design, manufacturing and marketing of luxury home theater audio products, today announced the introduction of the all-new Sunfire HRSIW8, an in-wall dual-driver 8” subwoofer that features the brand’s patented Stillbass™ anti-shake technology that virtually eliminates mechanical vibration, improving bass definition while helping to contain the bass to the room in which it is mounted. The Stillbass technology, coupled with Sunfire’s trademark High Back-emf designed woofers, helps provide pounding audiophile-grade bass from a subwoofer that easily retrofits into a standard 16” on-center stud bay. The announcement was made at CEDIA EXPO 2012 in Booth #902 of the Indiana Convention Center.

According to Sunfire General Manager Mark Weisenberg, “Every day, the engineers and designers at Sunfire are developing new ways to deliver what home owners want from their home entertainment experience; dynamic, accurate bass without donating large amounts of space in the process. We have accomplished that with the HRSIW8. Combining our legacy technologies with our latest thinking in subwoofer power and control, the HRSIW8 is simple to install. Setup is straightforward using Sunfire’s Digital amplifier platform, which includes a wide array of optional adjustments for maximum performance. Now our dealers will be able to specify a budget conscious, high performance in-wall subwoofer that delivers on our brand promise.”

The HRSIW8 features two custom-designed 8” long-throw woofers using ultra low mass fiberglass cones in a sealed cabinet that measures 12.2”W x 24.7”H x 3.75”D, and only requires a wall cutout of 10.6”W x 23.5”H. With six built-in dog-toggle style wall clamps it is a perfect solution for both retrofits and new construction jobs, easily fitting in any standard 16” on-center stud bay. A wire channel is provided on the rear of the enclosure to avoid pinching the wire between the enclosure and the back of the drywall inside the opening. Easily removable magnetic grilles and a cutout template for easy installation are provided.

The HRSIW8’s external rack-mount amplifier is an evolution of the Sunfire digital amplifier used in the company’s SDS subwoofer line. Using Sunfire’s Frequency Filtration Design (FFD) for high fidelity bass, the amp delivers 520W of power with near zero distortion. A wide range of filtering adjustments are included as well as DSP with room equalization and a remote control that provides one-touch access to preset equalizer modes.

The HRSIW8 has an MSRP of $1,700 and features a frequency response of 33Hz-150Hz, maximum output of 106dB, balanced and unbalanced line level inputs, gold plated speaker terminals and adjustable high-pass and low pass filters.

The continuing “Science of Sunfire” is the direct result of a design philosophy originally pioneered by Bob Carver that has become codified by the brand. This unique approach to design has resulted in amazingly compact high performance subwoofers that combine the best electronics and acoustics with specialized, premium materials to exemplify the mantra of “small form, high fidelity with high output and reliability”.
