FOR-A’s FT-ONE 4K Super Slow Motion Camera Wins Prestigious STAR Award

Fort Lee, N.J. – TV Technology Europe has recognized FOR-A as a recipient of the publication’s 2012 IBC Show STAR Awards for its FT-ONE full 4K high resolution variable frame rate camera. FOR-A, a leading manufacturer of video and audio systems for the broadcast and professional video industries, unveiled the FT-ONE earlier this year at Cine Gear Expo in Hollywood, while IBC 2012 marked the camera’s European debut.

The STAR Awards (Superior Technology Award Recipient) honor products that help to advance the broadcast industry. The FT-ONE is the world’s first full 4K super slow motion camera, with the ability to record up to 900 frames per second. Harnessing the power of FOR-A’s high-sensitivity CMOS color sensor “FT1-CMOS”, the FT-ONE records and plays back full 4K (4096 x 2160.) One output channel can provide full 4K (four 1080p HD-SDI) outputs, while the other output channel provides down-converted HD-SDI for live viewing and play back.

“Showcasing the FT-ONE at IBC was very exciting for us, and we’re thrilled that TV Technology Europe recognized the innovative nature of this camera with a STAR Award,” said Mr. Hiro Tanoue, President of FOR-A Corporation of America. “It provides a capability that’s been missing up until now – recording super slow motion with full 4K resolution. With this camera rolling, operators can rest assured they won’t miss that critical action shot. We look forward to seeing the innovative ways it’s used in sports and digital cinema production.”

The FT-ONE captures images as uncompressed raw data on the system’s internal memory, which has a recording capacity of 9.4 seconds. This data is then stored on one of two hot-swappable SSD cartridges, each of which is capable of storing 84 seconds of full 4K resolution images. The FT-ONE camera uses a PL mount lens and the global shutter system. The camera is designed as a self-contained unit that is dependable and easy to use. It weights 8.5kg in a size of 235mm(W)x294mm(H)x384mm(D).

The technical details shown here are provisional (as of September 2012). This information is subject to change without notice.

Lights Out for the Minimoog Voyager Select Series

Today Moog Music announced its plans to discontinue production of the Minimoog Voyager Select Series, the top selling backlit analog synthesizer of all time. Over the last 6 years the Select Series has been used in studios and on stages around the globe. Whether it’s Madonna, Dr. Dre, Alicia Keys, CeeLo Green, Lady Gaga or Sugarland, the custom combinations of color and finish reflects the unique aesthetic and personality of its owner. Moog will continue building the Select Series through the end of the year, with the final Select Series leaving the factory on Jan 1, 2013.

This is the last chance ever for prospective buyers to purchase a Select Series Voyager, but it will also be their best chance. During the remaining months of production, Moog has reduced the selling price on all Select Series Voyagers from $3,659 to $2,999.

“We felt it was important to give musicians who had always dreamt of customizing a handcrafted Voyager a final chance to build one at an unprecedented price,” said Mike Adams, CEO Moog Music Inc. “We are a small company that still builds by hand, so sometimes we have to make hard decisions about ending the life of even our most favorite products. However, history has shown that discontinued Minimoogs, like the Model D and the Old School, have a tendency to become highly sought after collector’s items. I’m sure we’ll see them on stages and in studios for years to come.” said Adams.

The discontinuation of the Select Series comes just as Moog begins celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Minimoog Voyager. The first Minimoog Voyager introduced the world to the next generation of analog synthesizers in 2002. To honor this milestone, Moog has created an interactive ten-year retrospective containing the untold history of the Voyager, artist profiles and performances, free gifts, and other announcements that are yet to come.

About the Sale:
Minimoog Voyager Select Series will be gone by 2013. Until that time the price has been reduced from $3,659 to $2,999. HARMAN’s DigiTech Redefines Looping Possibilities With Introduction of JamMan Solo XT

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – HARMAN’s DigiTech today introduced the new JamMan Solo XT looper, featuring true stereo looping and an array of new features including JamSync, Dial-In BPMs, Micro SD interface and selectable stop modes, all in a single, compact stompbox form factor.

The JamMan Solo XT features a unique pedal-linking capability called JamSync. For multi-phrase looping, a guitarist can link together two JamMan Solo XTs and record different length phrases in each while staying in perfect sync. Link together three JamMans and the JamSync will provide three synced phrases, and so on. Loopers can now use as many phrases as they need to create intricate loop layering. Bands can now use looping by linking together individual looper pedals and having each member control their own loop contributions giving the looping market a whole new meaning.

The pedal’s Auto Record feature makes recording a loop easier. Simply arm the JamMan for record and it waits for you to start playing before recording begins, giving you a precise loop start point every time.

“DigiTech’s long history of supercharging looping capabilities continues with the newest version of the JamMan. We are offering virtually unlimited possibilities for loops through the external memory card functionality. Pedals like the JamMan Solo XT give the individual player the power to expand their sonic palette beyond what was previously possible,” stated Rob Urry, vice president, HARMAN Professional Division and general manager of Signal Processing and Amplifier Business Units.

The looper features a USB port, metronome with multiple rhythm sounds, time signatures and hands-free functionality. Powered by DigiTech’s free JamManager XT software a guitarist can organize and save loops to a PC or Mac, create JamLists and have them available anytime for fast recall.

The JamMan Solo XT will be available in October 2012 with an MSRP of $309.95.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional VTX V25 Line Array Loudspeaker Wins 2012 PLASA Award for Innovation

NORTHRIDGE, California – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today announced that its VTX Series V25 fullsize line array loudspeaker is a 2012 PLASA Awards for Innovation winner.

PLASA is one of the premier international events for entertainment and installation technology. During the show’s opening two days in September, 47 products were judged by an independent panel of industry experts, who toured the show floor to evaluate each product. Eight Awards for Innovation winners were chosen, including the JBL VTX V25 which was also the only audio product selected.

The V25 “addresses a lot of the traditional problems with loudspeakers by addressing the problems at the driver engineering level,” the PLASA Awards for Innovation judges said.

The JBL VTX Series V25 is a fullsize, 3-way high-directivity line array element that features two 15-inch Differential Drive® woofers mounted, with four 8-inch Differential Drive midrange transducers and three D2 dual-diaphragm dual-voice-coil compression drivers mounted on a third-generation waveguide/Radiation Boundary Integrator assembly. The Radiation Boundary Integrator combines the midrange and high-frequency sections of the V25 so the transition across each frequency band is uninterrupted while providing broad, stable horizontal coverage combined with proper line source array coupling for 0-10 degree inter-enclosure angles in the vertical plane.

The dual annular diaphragms employed in the D2 driver addresses the limitations of conventional compression driver technology: limited high-frequency extension due to the mass of a dome diaphragm and voice coil assembly, and distortion from dome breakup modes. The D2 merges two compression drivers into a single transducer that utilizes two voice coils instead of the larger, heavier single voice coil found in conventional drivers. The result is increased power handling and SPL along with smoother, extended high-frequency response and lower distortion.

“We are gratified that the PLASA Awards for Innovation judges have recognized what we have achieved with our new flagship V25 line array,” said Paul Bauman, Senior Manager, Tour Sound for JBL Professional. “Since its introduction earlier this year, the V25 has been praised by some of the world’s top front-of-house engineers and sound contractors as a significant leap forward in clarity, resolution and accuracy along with its ability to deliver higher SPL and higher dynamic fidelity.”

Take1 And Fireman’s Fund Donate $15,000 To Mountains Recreation And Conservation Authority

Take1 Insurance, the entertainment industry insurance division of U.S. Risk, Inc., in partnership with Fireman’s Fund, yesterday presented a $15,000 donation to The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) for the purchase of new handheld firefighter radios. The MRCA is dedicated to preserving the region’s open space for the public and posterity, and fighting wildfires is frequently a big part of that job. MRCA firefighters work to protect more than 150,000 acres of mountainous terrain, deep canyons, forest and grassland that are part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

“Budget constraints make it difficult for many agencies to purchase all of the equipment they need to do their jobs effectively and safely,” said Scott Carroll, Program Director at Take1 Insurance. “We’re proud to help in such a tangible way knowing so many communities will benefit from this donation. We also want to thank our clients, without whom this large donation would not be possible. Take1 is here to help, whether it be helping our clients protect their businesses or helping communities prevent and manage natural disasters.”

MRCA officials, firefighters, and executives from Take1 Insurance and Fireman’s Fund came together for a special public event at Fireman’s Fund headquarters in Burbank, CA.

“Communications on the scene of a fire is key to effective firefighting and keeping firefighters safe,” said Fire Management Officer David Updike. “With this equipment, we will be better able to protect this unique, valuable asset to the community.”

The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire department and burn prevention organizations. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to more than 1,800 different organizations totaling more than $29 million – including more than $8.5 million in California. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like Take 1 Insurance, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

Konsert Teknik Joins the Growing Ranks of HARMAN’s JBL VTX Customers

NORTHRIDGE, California – Joining the growing band of leading international PA companies that now have a HARMAN’s JBL VTX line array system as their frontline PA is Uppsala, Sweden-based Konsert Teknik.

Run by Mikael “Wibban” Viberg (and formerly known as Wibban Produktion) Konsert Teknik has been a longtime supporter of HARMAN Professional’s integrated control and sound reinforcement systems in Sweden, including Soundcraft’s Vi digital consoles and recently JBL VERTEC® line arrays with new V5 DSP tunings.

But with the launch of JBL’s groundbreaking new VTX system, Viberg recently invested in a 32-enclosure V25 rig and four VTX S28 subs as well as 60 Crown I-Tech 12000 HD amplifiers. He placed the order with Septon AB, HARMAN Professional’s Swedish distributor, which has supported him over a long period.

Explaining the decision, Viberg said, “It was essential to have the best PA system to support the acts that pass through the venues and stages of [Stockholm amusement park] Gröna Lund and Furuvik [just outside Gävle] during the summer season.” Both are major concert sites and Konsert Teknik aims to break the system down into two separate rigs, which will service the long seasons in both of these locations.

Viberg was first exposed to the VTX system when he attended the HARMAN Business and Technology Conference in January 2012, along with Septon’s Lennart Dahlgren. Viberg was looking to build on his VERTEC VT4889, VT4887 and VT4886 loudspeakers— the mainstay of his inventory—and “a clean sound” headed the list of criteria he was seeking. The revolutionary D2 dual compression driver met and exceeded that requirement, and immediately drove the purchase.

“I expect to see VTX starting to appear on riders very soon — judging from the positive reactions we have already received from many technicians,” Viberg concluded.

Belkin Releases Secure Audio and Microphone Four-Port Switch

New Switch Offers Centralized Control Over Audio Ports, Reduces Risk of Audio Signal Interception

VNM91912 – Playa Vista, CA –  Belkin Enterprise, a trusted leader of complete computing solutions for office, IT infrastructure and mobile environments, today announced the release of its Secure Audio and Microphone Four-Port Switch. The Secure Audio and Microphone Switch offers users centralized control over audio ports, and is designed to reduce the possibility of analog cross-talk of audio signals between computers running at different security levels.

Belkin’s Secure Audio and Microphone Switch is designed for government and other environments requiring the use of secure Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications. Supporting both stereo audio and microphone analog signals, the switch allows users to securely share headsets, speakers and microphones between computers or IP phones.

Belkin’s Secure Audio and Microphone Switch features dedicated printed circuit boards for the audio and microphone signals. Keeping the audio signals physically separated from the microphone signals eliminates the possibility of leakage between signals on either side.

Unlike solid-state audio multiplexers, the Secure Audio and Microphone Switch relies on high-quality mechanical relays and does not have a memory buffer or the ability to store data. This prevents signals from being exploited or manipulated by malicious software as users switch between computers, ensuring the integrity of the signal.

Additionally, Belkin’s Secure Audio and Microphone Switch incorporates a hardware microphone mute button to shut off the microphone when the switch is not in use or while handling calls where the microphone is not required. The mute button cannot be manipulated by software or driver, allowing for increased security.

“Agencies are increasingly replacing their aging and expensive, circuit-switched phone systems with communication solutions that run over IP networks to comply with recent light technology mandates and reduce operational costs,” said Luiz Artiz, director of product management at Belkin. “Our Secure Audio and Microphone Switch works in conjunction with our Secure KVM (Keyboard Video Monitor) switch and relieves the fear of possible information leak while switching between networks of varying security levels.”

Other security features of Belkin’s Secure Audio and Microphone Switch include:

  • Non-Reprogrammable Firmware – Custom firmware is not reprogrammable, preventing the ability to tamper with the switch logic.
  • Metal-Plate Firewall - Placed between the audio and microphone printed circuit boards, the metal-plate firewall reduces the potential of electromagnetic interference leakage.
  • Tamper-Evident Tape - A holographic security label placed on the enclosure provides a visual indication if the switch has been opened or compromised.
  • Port Coloring - Included color chips can be inserted into each port-selector button facilitating port identification and reducing user error.
  • Secure Packaging - “Tear away” packaging ensures secure delivery of the switch as it is routed to the end user.

Belkin’s Secure Audio and Microphone Four-Port Switch is now available through the company’s network of authorized channel partners.

Today Belkin also introduced its new smart card reader specifically designed for demanding government applications. For more information, visit Belkin News.
