Digital Nirvana Debuts its New Cable Suite at SCTE Expo 2012

Newark, CA – Digital Nirvana will launch its product offerings to the cable industry at the upcoming SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, held October 17-19 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Making their SCTE debut is the company’s Cable Suite, which includes: Monitor IQ, a cable monitoring system; MediaPro IQ, a content repurposing system; and ManyView IQ, an IP video distribution system.

“Our product line offers unique cost-saving and operational advantages to cable providers,” explained Ned Chini, vice president of sales and marketing, Digital Nirvana. “Our monitoring system, Monitor IQ, offers full-featured monitoring, recording and reporting for hundreds of cable channels. Key applications include ad insertion verification and validation, CALM Act compliance, adaptive bit-rate/OTT streaming, and SDV/on-demand – all of which are critical monitoring areas today. Our content repurposing system, MediaPro IQ, was designed specifically for the cable market with its ability to record encrypted cable feeds for content repurposing and rebroadcasting. We’re very excited to show off our latest and greatest technology at SCTE – the year’s premier cable engineering event.”

The newest version of Digital Nirvana’s Monitor IQ, Version 3.1, will be unveiled in the U.S. at SCTE. New features include: SDI playout, flexible content archiving, real-time newscast exporting, watermark NAVE decoding, centralized management, Dolby E audio standard support, director’s audio track and H.264 video format support. The Monitor IQ cable monitoring system is divided into four packages based on individual needs, and offers an efficient architecture that reduces operation costs and lowers the total cost of ownership.

Monitor IQ Starter is an entry-level package that offers all the logging functionality necessary for a one- to two-channel system and includes 90 days of low-resolution storage. Searching is based upon keywords, titles, subtitles, descriptions, textual metadata, closed-caption text and imported logs, with filtering by time, date and channel. Recordings can be easily edited, clipped, stored and sent via email or FTP.

Monitor IQ Essentials is a logging and monitoring system that includes all the functionality necessary for broadcasters to ensure regulatory compliance. New features being shown at the SCTE show include support for IP as an input source, and loudness monitoring is now bundled in as a standard feature within the package.

Monitor IQ Plus includes all of the features found within Essentials and adds several new enhancements including the ability to connect and control Monitor IQ via an iPad, iPhone, or Android interface. This mobile feature makes it easy for field sales reps to show clients their ad content in the context of the broadcast programming. Other new features include centralized management and a web services (REST) API.

Monitor IQ Premier extends beyond the capabilities found in the other packages with innovative, new features, such as: ad insertion verification and validation, CALM Act compliance, adaptive bit-rate/OTT streaming, and SDV/on-demand, directors audio track, advanced metadata harvesting, and integration with third party routers, multi-viewers, TS analyzers, and traffic and automaton platforms.

Also included in The Cable Suite is MediaPro IQ, a content repurposing system for multi-platform distribution. The solution is designed for news and sports directors who frequently repurpose content from cable channels, and allows users to record encrypted cable feeds for content repurposing and rebroadcasting. MediaPro IQ users can easily edit, clip, and publish live or recorded content in real-time. By intelligently using cable card technology, MediaPro IQ records encrypted cable feeds in full HD. The solution is compatible with a variety of web browsers, and has the ability to interface with iPad, iPhone and Android. Video can be exported to Flash, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, and XDCAM and other formats for content repurposing.

ManyView IQ is yet another major component of Digital Nirvana’s Cable Suite. The solution offers an easy and cost-effective way to deploy a private, enterprise-wide IPTV system to users who need to view real-time video signals at their desktop. The system eliminates the need for costly coaxial cabling, IP encapsulators, and IP output encoders. IP multicast delivers real-time video feeds to desktop and set-top boxes throughout an organization. ManyView IQ is DNLA-enabled, which provides VOD-like ability to store, distribute, and publish offline video assets throughout the enterprise for any device on the network.

Digital Nirvana will be in the MegaHertz booth #2421 during SCTE. MegaHertz is a VAR and systems integrator of multi-vendor system solutions that support the deployment of video, voice and data technologies in fiber/coax broadband/IP networks.

“We’re proud to partner with Digital Nirvana at such a key event,” said Guy Levassar, Director of Business Development, MegaHertz. “Digital Nirvana’s monitoring solutions for ad insertion, compliance, adaptive bit-rate/OTT streaming and SDV/on-demand offer tremendous value for cable and IPTV providers. Advanced Helps GE Put Imagination To Work By Integrating Groundbreaking AV Solutions In GE’s New Grid IQ™ Global Innovation Center

GE, a global leader in energy research and technology, last week opened its new $40 million, 200,000 square foot Markham, Ontario Grid IQ™ Global Innovation Center dedicated to promoting its next-generation energy management grid. To help bring the center to life in the most engaging, customer-friendly way possible, GE turned to Advanced, Canada’s leading AV integrator, to envision, design and install an integrated AV and IT solution that encompasses 55 rooms including a Customer Experience Center that features a jaw-dropping 58-foot Prysm LPD video wall.

According to Mark Mulford, President and CEO at Advanced, “This expansive AV and IT installation encapsulates GE’s mantra of Imagination At Work and provides an immersive media experience that is vital to convey the forward-thinking technologies GE is developing to improve the efficiency, reliability and security of the world’s electrical grids. As Canada’s premier AV and IT integration company, we are proud to be recognized by GE for our industry-leading solutions and to help GE deliver an unmatched visitor experience.”

The Customer Experience Center brings GE’s Grid IQ™ technologies to life in a visual and easy-to-understand way. Advanced utilized the Prysm video wall and several wall-mounted touchscreen displays to allow customers to explore GE’s energy technologies firsthand and enable them to discover solutions to improve and enhance their energy grids. In fact, it is the world’s largest curved Prysm video wall, measuring 58 feet wide by 7 feet tall and comprising 175 individual tiles with the thinnest seams currently possible. Incorporating today’s greenest large-format display technologies, the video wall consumes just one-tenth the power of traditional digital displays. Video processing is provided by the latest Extron Quantum™ Elite processor and a professional grade multi-zone audio system was installed to complete the media experience. The entire Customer Experience Center features Crestron automation and can be controlled through an iPad.

“GE wanted to create a one-of-a-kind experience for their customers,” said Mulford, “and we proved that Advanced, more than any other integration company, has the knowledge, experience and vision to deliver compelling and effective AV solutions. We worked directly with GE and Prysm on the concept, design and implementation of the system and utilized the newest cutting-edge AV and presentation technologies. This resulted in one of the world’s most immersive digital environments. To put it simply, there is no other system like this on Earth.”

The AV installation encompasses 54 additional rooms including executive offices, boardrooms, training rooms, meeting rooms and many more. One training room, which can be divided into two separate rooms with a motorized wall, is equipped with a SMART 70” LCD interactive display and an enterprise-grade Polycom video conferencing system, allowing simple and effective global conferencing and training sessions. The room also features several large interactive touchscreens, a projector and a fully integrated audio system.

The facility’s executive boardroom is equipped with a Crestron system that controls an NEC projector mounted on an automated projector lift, an audio conferencing system, table-mounted microphones at each seat and ceiling-mounted microphones that provide an unobtrusive solution for presenters.

Even the manufacturing floor got an AV upgrade with more than a dozen 46” LCD monitors gracing its walls to display production stats and other internal GE messaging.

The collaboration room allows individuals to work together in real-time with internal or external staff worldwide. Advanced installed a SMART interactive whiteboard, in-ceiling speakers, microphones, a video conferencing system and a projector to accommodate every type of meeting and interaction. All of the room’s AV functions can be managed through the Crestron control system on a wireless Crestron touchscreen device.

GE knows that happy, healthy employees are productive employees, so they had Advanced create a gym and fitness studio that provides a personal AV experience at each fitness station. Employees can plug in their personal iPads and iPods to listen to music or watch satellite TV or DVDs at each station. The system can direct audio to individual stations or the main loudspeakers throughout the entire gym and fitness studio.

Adding to the Global Innovation Center’s sense of community, the cafeteria serves double duty as the location for Markham’s town hall meetings. The cafeteria features a projector and five NEC LCD displays with built-in speakers to display cable programming for staff and provide video presentation capabilities for town hall meetings, while an integrated video conferencing system with two wireless microphones allows meetings to be broadcast to remote viewers.

HARMAN’s Soundcraft Vi Consoles Get 96 Channels to Mix for Vi4 and Virtual Vi for Vi1

POTTERS BAR, United Kingdom — The new V4.7 release of software for Harman’s Soundcraft Vi Series range of digital consoles brings a major input capacity increase for the Vi4 model, as well as new Virtual Vi software for the Vi1 and a number of feature upgrades across the board.

The Soundcraft Vi4 can now handle 96 inputs to mix, bringing it fully into line with the Vi2 and Vi6 models, and show-files are now fully compatible between Vi2, 4 and 6 consoles, so settings can be quickly and easily moved between consoles from a USB memory stick. To take advantage of the 96 inputs to mix on the Vi4, 3 DSP cards must be fitted to the local rack, so exiting Vi4 owners can upgrade very easily. Vi4 consoles with only 2 DSP cards will be uplifted to 64 inputs to mix, from 48. Similarly, rental companies with inventories of both Vi4 and Vi6 can now standardize on local racks.

The same software update brings the dedicated Virtual Vi offline editor for the Vi1 console so users can take full advantage of the Vi1 functionality to program shows offline.

Other software enhancements in V4.7 include EQ width control options in Q or octaves delay unit settings in milliseconds, metres or feet & inches, and a number of other user interface enhancements.

The new software can be downloaded at http://www.soundcraft.com/downloads/software.aspx.

StrandVision Digital Signage Software Displays Google and Microsoft Outlook Calendars

Automatically distributes meeting information across the digital signage network…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Oct. 17, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced that it has added a convenience feature to its digital signage software that enables administrators to post Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar meeting notices automatically to a digital media player over their StrandVision electronic sign networks.

The feature is a configurable free option on StrandVision’s Content Management System (CMS) on its cloud-based administrator portal. Once set up, the system automatically displays the event name, time and location across the designated StrandVision Digital Signage displays. The Google and Outlook Calendar feature eliminates the need for administrators to reenter meeting information that they want to display over their networks. As the meeting is added or updated in the calendar, it automatically updates the StrandVision Digital Signage server cloud, which updates the digital signage content shown on the screens.

The free digital signage feature is a valuable addition for schools and colleges, hotels, conference centers, nursing homes, clubs and associations – any organization that can use digital signs to promote its meetings or events.

“This is another great business marketing feature that was created based on customer requests,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “We’ve added the powerful calendar capability to our signage that, like so many StrandVision options, literally requires no thought or effort once it’s set up. The scheduling operator doesn’t even have to think about it. For instance, a secretary or function manager at a hotel can continue to schedule rooms in Outlook or Google Calendar and the notices are automatically posted on all of the digital signage displays – no effort, no mistakes.”

Set up is easy. Users simply create an RSS feed from their Outlook Calendar to StrandVision through a Google Calendar bridge. They then select the display criteria (current day, week or other parameter), and create a StrandVision Digital Signage page to display the information. The page is added to the digital signage content page rotation. The digital signage calendar is updated hourly as events are added to or removed from the Google or Outlook calendar.

The new calendar feature is free and available immediately to StrandVision electronic signage subscribers by logging in to their CMS portal at StrandVision.com.

MLA Compact Keeps Sound Inside Amphitheater At Swedish Festival

DM Audio of Stockholm, Sweden recently used a Martin Audio MLA Compact system with 12 enclosures per side at the Vitabergsparken (White Mountains) for the annual Parkteatern Festival staged by Stockholm City Theater. The festival consists of four weeks of entertainment in the open-air amphitheater.

DM Audio have been servicing the event for many years, and working with show designer Mårten Ihre, they took the opportunity to swap out their conventional line array with MLA Compact as soon as it became available.

Hosted by the Stockholms Stadsteater subsidiary, Parkteatern (Park Theater), the varied program ranged from soft ballads to high-octane hip-hop and modern Danish dance and Opera. DM Audio responded by beefing up the LF end, running six DSX subs per side, double stacked in a cardioid pattern, to give the neighbors no grounds for complaint against noise escaping at the rear of the stage.

In fact the biggest challenge facing the production crew was eliminating noise escape at the rear. “We set up the ‘hard avoid’ parameters for behind the stage and the controllability of the cardioid subs also ensured that no sound escaped at the back,” said DM Audio President Lars Wern. “Everybody was immensely pleased how we managed to taper off the sound and the result was that there were no complaints.”

This was a fitting way for the Park Theater, now clearly bitten by the digitally controllable bug, to celebrate its 70th year. “We are all very impressed with MLA,” concluded Wern, “It is a fantastic system.”

About MLA™ (Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array)
The result of many years of intensive R&D, MLA’s methodology replaces trial-and-error array design with intelligent numerical optimization of the array’s output based on a highly accurate acoustic model. The multi-cellular format has six individual cells in each enclosure, each with its own DSP and amplification.

With up to 24 enclosures, each MLA array has up to 144 cells — too great a number to optimize manually, or by ear. Instead, Martin Audio’s proprietary Display2™ system design software automatically calculates FIR DSP filters for each cell and a redundant-ring audio network (U-NET™) downloads the settings into each array enclosure. Martin Audio’s VU-NET™ software provides real-time control and monitoring of the system.

MLA delivers a frequency response and SPL consistency never before achievable; a very high system output (140dB peak, per cabinet @1m); Automatic optimization of the array, both physically (splay angles) and electronically (DSP); Computer control and monitoring of the entire system, and total control of sound system balance for engineers and sound technicians.

MLA is fully integrated, with Class D amplification, DSP and U-NET digital audio
network built into each enclosure. MLA complete systems are ready-to-use, with MLA, MLD and MLX enclosures, flying hardware, software, cabling and training all supplied. Everything needed is included. All ancillary items — from tablet PC and Merlin™ controller to network interconnects and mains distro — are also included in the complete system package. This ensures full compatibility worldwide, down to cabling and accessories.

Additional features include 90° x 7.5° dispersion; a compact size (1136mm wide x 372mm high x 675mm deep), one-box-fits-all (festivals to theaters) application range and a global voltage, power factor corrected power supply.

MLA’s compact size and very high output allows it to be shipped using smaller trucks, offering considerable savings and reduced carbon footprint. The system also includes the MLX powered, flyable subwoofer capable of an unprecedented measured peak output of 150dB @ 1m; MLD downfill cabinet, and Merlin 4-in/10-out system controller and network hub. Audio input is via analog, AES3 or U-NET.

By adopting these principles and system components MLA is optimized for every member of the audience — from a 2,000 capacity theater, to a 20,000-seat arena, to a 100,000-person festival site. It will deliver the engineer’s exact mix to every seat (up to over 150 meters) with precision, exceptional power and clarity.

About Martin Audio®
Founded by audio engineer David Martin in 1971, Martin Audio pioneered the use of all-horn-loaded bass designs in world-class touring loudspeaker systems for groups such as Pink Floyd, ELP and Supertramp. Located outside of London, Martin Audio now embodies a sophisticated mix of acoustic design, research, mathematical modeling and software engineering for a wide range of products in the installation, cinema and touring sound markets.

Homeowner Doesn’t Skip a Beat with Niles® Speakers Indoors and Outdoors

As a successful businessman, homeowner Gino LaVerghetta knows that using the most reliable, highest quality equipment can be the difference between an enjoyable experience and a frustrating one. That’s precisely why he chose Niles’® legendary loudspeakers for his new home theater and outdoor audio system, which provide audiophile quality sound whether he’s watching his favorite film or entertaining guests in the backyard.

“I’ve been in several homes with indoor/outdoor distributed audio systems, and I was always amazed at the drop in sound quality when we went outside,” LaVerghetta said. “So I asked Dave Febbraio, owner of Stuctured Home Solutions, LLC, what I should do, and he said Niles’ new GS Garden Speakers were the perfect solution. He was right! If I turn the indoor and outdoor speakers on at the same time and then walk outside, it sounds like I’m just stepping into the next room, with music that has the same power, clarity and definition as indoors. I’m especially impressed with the in-ground subwoofer because it helps deliver the full soundscape of my favorite music without putting a big box in the yard.”

The pros at Structured Home Solutions, LLC built LaVerghetta’s jealousy-inducing home theater sound system with five Niles HD Series LCR in-wall speakers and a Sunfire® HRS8 subwoofer, then continued the audio excellence outdoors with four Niles Garden Series GS4 satellite loudspeakers and a Niles GSS10 in-ground 10-inch subwoofer. With all the speakers covered by Niles’ industry-leading lifetime limited warranty, LaVerghetta knows that his system will provide years of unparalleled sound both indoors and outdoors.

LaVerghetta’s home also features the ELAN® g! Entertainment and Control System to make the audio system simple and easy to control. The g! system allows the whole family to use their iPhones, iPads, Android mobile devices, ELAN in-wall touchscreens and eight ELAN HR2 remotes to control the home’s music, TVs, Lutron® lighting, Aprilaire® HVAC, Jandy® pool and spa controls, ELK® security system and seven Panasonic® PTZ IP surveillance cameras.

According to Febbraio, the project grew exponentially after Adams saw the quality of Stuctured Home Solutions’ work and recognized the value and potential of a professionally installed home control system.

“After working for Gino for a short time and seeing the quality of the house he was building, I knew he would not settle for anything less from my company or the equipment we installed,” Febbraio said. “I knew the Niles outdoor set would be a perfect fit for the large space we needed to cover and that he would be happy with the result. These speakers compliment the 46” Sunbrite TV we installed and comprise the 16th audio zone in the house all controlled by the g! system. Keeping quality consistent and exceeding the client’s expectations allowed us to expand this project from a simple four-zone audio system to the 16-zone AV control system with fully integrated home automation that it is today.”

When considering the control possibilities, LaVerghetta recognized that in the next five to 10 years most homes of comparable size will have automation systems and extensive AV systems, so he wanted his home to be ahead of the curve. “There are so many benefits of integrated home technologies, from energy conservation to enhanced security and peace of mind, and of course being able to control it all remotely. Whatever you invest in the system you absolutely get back through savings in energy, time and hassle. I love sitting down to dinner with my family and then using my iPhone to turn on some music without getting up from the table.

“The whole system has quickly become an integral part of our home. For instance, part of my nighttime routine is using the touchscreen in my bedroom to make sure that all the lights are off or dimmed, the alarm is set, the garage is closed and all the TVs and audio systems are off. And with the ability to dim and set timers for our lights, the kids never have to wander around in the dark to find the bathroom at night. The system offers so many conveniences that I’m still finding new ways to make my home easier to use every day.”
