StrandVision Digital Signage Software Displays Google and Microsoft Outlook Calendars

Automatically distributes meeting information across the digital signage network…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Oct. 17, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced that it has added a convenience feature to its digital signage software that enables administrators to post Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar meeting notices automatically to a digital media player over their StrandVision electronic sign networks.

The feature is a configurable free option on StrandVision’s Content Management System (CMS) on its cloud-based administrator portal. Once set up, the system automatically displays the event name, time and location across the designated StrandVision Digital Signage displays. The Google and Outlook Calendar feature eliminates the need for administrators to reenter meeting information that they want to display over their networks. As the meeting is added or updated in the calendar, it automatically updates the StrandVision Digital Signage server cloud, which updates the digital signage content shown on the screens.

The free digital signage feature is a valuable addition for schools and colleges, hotels, conference centers, nursing homes, clubs and associations – any organization that can use digital signs to promote its meetings or events.

“This is another great business marketing feature that was created based on customer requests,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “We’ve added the powerful calendar capability to our signage that, like so many StrandVision options, literally requires no thought or effort once it’s set up. The scheduling operator doesn’t even have to think about it. For instance, a secretary or function manager at a hotel can continue to schedule rooms in Outlook or Google Calendar and the notices are automatically posted on all of the digital signage displays – no effort, no mistakes.”

Set up is easy. Users simply create an RSS feed from their Outlook Calendar to StrandVision through a Google Calendar bridge. They then select the display criteria (current day, week or other parameter), and create a StrandVision Digital Signage page to display the information. The page is added to the digital signage content page rotation. The digital signage calendar is updated hourly as events are added to or removed from the Google or Outlook calendar.

The new calendar feature is free and available immediately to StrandVision electronic signage subscribers by logging in to their CMS portal at StrandVision.com.

MLA Compact Keeps Sound Inside Amphitheater At Swedish Festival

DM Audio of Stockholm, Sweden recently used a Martin Audio MLA Compact system with 12 enclosures per side at the Vitabergsparken (White Mountains) for the annual Parkteatern Festival staged by Stockholm City Theater. The festival consists of four weeks of entertainment in the open-air amphitheater.

DM Audio have been servicing the event for many years, and working with show designer Mårten Ihre, they took the opportunity to swap out their conventional line array with MLA Compact as soon as it became available.

Hosted by the Stockholms Stadsteater subsidiary, Parkteatern (Park Theater), the varied program ranged from soft ballads to high-octane hip-hop and modern Danish dance and Opera. DM Audio responded by beefing up the LF end, running six DSX subs per side, double stacked in a cardioid pattern, to give the neighbors no grounds for complaint against noise escaping at the rear of the stage.

In fact the biggest challenge facing the production crew was eliminating noise escape at the rear. “We set up the ‘hard avoid’ parameters for behind the stage and the controllability of the cardioid subs also ensured that no sound escaped at the back,” said DM Audio President Lars Wern. “Everybody was immensely pleased how we managed to taper off the sound and the result was that there were no complaints.”

This was a fitting way for the Park Theater, now clearly bitten by the digitally controllable bug, to celebrate its 70th year. “We are all very impressed with MLA,” concluded Wern, “It is a fantastic system.”

Christophe Anet Joins WSDG’S European Office

Leading Acoustician/Engineer Augments International Design Firm’s Resources

A multi-lingual, technically accomplished, decision-maker with extensive fieldwork and managerial credentials, Anet brings a diverse skill set to this new appointment.

ELAN g! Makes Lakefront Home In ‘The Spa City’ The Ultimate Place To Relax

It’s difficult to imagine a place that sounds more relaxing than Hot Springs, Arkansas, which is known as “The Spa City” for its natural thermal springs. But local homeowner Brandon Adams realized that his lakefront home could be an even more stress-free environment if the house could run itself automatically — meaning that the heating, air conditioning, lighting, security and surveillance would work on their own, and be easy to adjust when necessary. After a recent installation of the incredibly powerful and simple to use ELAN g! Entertainment and Control System, this fantasy of the autonomous home is now a reality, offering him one-touch control of every major home subsystem including music and TV in every room!

First, Adams hired Taggart Architecture to design a series of pools and outdoor living areas to connect his new home with the adjacent house. His next call was to Jonesboro, Arkansas-based custom integrator Sound Concepts, which outfitted the home, including all the new living areas, with the latest in audio, video and control technology. The ELAN g! system integrates Lutron lighting and motorized window shades, an HAI security system, IP surveillance cameras, HAI thermostats, garage door controls, 11 Samsung TVs (one outdoors), 45 speakers (indoors and outdoors), and a 7.2 surround sound home theater with two Sunfire HRS12 subwoofers, an Epson projector and a Dragonfly 120” screen. It even incorporates control of the LED lighting on the home’s rooftop dome, the lakefront and in the boathouses.

Adams uses a combination of interfaces to control his home, with easy access through the g!Mobile iPhone and iPad apps, two 10-inch ELAN in-wall touchscreens in the pool house, 13 ELAN in-wall touchscreen throughout the home and boat houses, an under-counter ELAN 10-inch touchscreen, and 10 powerful ELAN HR2 multimedia and home control remotes.

“When I’m outside it’s very convenient to use my iPhone to control the music, the lights and the pool,” Adams said, “but when I’m in the house I almost always use a touch panel or one of the ELAN remotes because they are always on, so it’s easier and faster. The remotes are absolutely the best choice to control the TVs because of the play/pause and volume controls, and it’s just like using a normal TV remote, except it can also turn down the lights and turn up the a/c. Studio Berar Makes Lasting Impression at The Prodigy’s Warriors Dance Festival With HARMAN’s JBL VERTEC® Line Arrays and Soundcraft Vi6™ Digital Consoles

Studio Berar provided JBL VERTEC® powered line arrays and Soundcraft Vi6 digital audio consoles for the Warriors Dance Festival in Belgrade.

BELGRADE, Serbia – Studio Berar recently provided an extensive HARMAN audio system for The Prodigy’s Warriors Dance Festival at the Kalemegdan Fortress in Belgrade, Serbia. Co-promoted by the team behind Exit Festival, the event featured an eclectic and innovative lineup, while the sound reinforcement system included JBL VERTEC® powered line arrays and Soundcraft Vi6 digital audio consoles.

The music at the Warriors Dance Festival favored heavy beats and heavy guitars and joining The Prodigy in Eastern Europe’s party hub were acts such as Skrillex, Caspa, Zane Lowe and Feed Me, while Ritam Nereda, Goblini, Eyesburn, Lollobrigida represented the domestic forces. As the leading hire company in the region, which has built its reputation over almost three decades, Studio Berar was contracted by The Prodigy and the AAA Production team to satisfy an audience of over 20,000 fans who massed at the main Warriors Dance stage and two supporting stages.

Momcilo and Emil Berar project-managed the entire event for Studio Berar, while the audio team was led by system engineers Ivan Paplacko, Zoran Matic and Aleksandar Pejin. The company fielded its front-line JBL VERTEC rig, while each performing band brought its own sound technician to pilot their show mixes on Studio Berar’s Soundcraft Vi6’s at both the FOH and monitor positions.

The main stage was equipped with two 16-element hangs of VERTEC VT4889ADP-DA powered fullsize line array elements, with a pair of 8-element VT4889ADP-DA line arrays providing outfills, four VT4888ADP-DA powered midsize line array elements (for infills), two hangs of four VT4888 (sidefills), and a pair of 10-element VT4888ADP-DA line arrays as delays. In total, Studio Berar also deployed no fewer than 52 VT4880 fullsize arrayable subwoofers. The whole system was processed using dbx DriveRack 4800’s while 12 Crown I-Tech I-T8000 and 24 I-Tech I-T6000 powered the passive elements of the system.

According to Studio Berar’s Marketing Manager Lazar Josanov, the Warriors Dance Festival offered many sound technicians the opportunity to work on Soundcraft’s Vi6 consoles. “A lot of the engineers who worked on the Vi6 for the first time were like children with a new toy!”

Josanov added that the clarity and strength of sound impressed both visitors and performers. “The whole festival sounded great, and all bands who performed, both local and visiting, were more than satisfied with the overall production,” he said.

The Prodigy themselves took the stage at 1:00 A.M. and with the very first rhythms brought the audience into delirium with their unstoppable movement and energy. “The perfectly clear sound shook the fortress area while the fantastic lighting effects were in perfect coordination with each song beat,” Josanov added.

Outline and Production Resource Group (PRG) Announce Partnership

PRG Las Vegas Will Serve as Central Hub for Outline U.S. Strategic Initiative

LAS VEGAS, OCTOBER 17, 2012 – Outline S.r.l. and U.S. subsidiary, Outline North America, LLC, have entered into an agreement with Production Resource Group (PRG), one of the largest production services companies in North America. PRG handles all aspects of live event presentations including lighting, video effects, scenery and sound for Broadway productions including Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark, and major live television presentations that include the Academy Awards. PRG also provides extensive audio systems, stage design and lighting effect systems for major tours and events such as Elton John, Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Super Bowl half-time show. The center of activities for this new relationship will be at PRG’s expansive Las Vegas facility, the hub of PRG’s touring sound business, where a fully complemented turn-key system of Outline GTO, GTO-SUBS, Butterfly, MANTAS, DBS18-2 Subs and recently introduced LipFill-0182, will be inventoried and staged for immediate deployment for PRG’s most demanding production and touring requirements.

A joint launch of the GTO and Outline partnership is planned to coincide with the upcoming LDI Show and Parnelli Awards in Las Vegas. A Stageline Mobile Stage, with a full Outline GTO rig, will be set up on the grounds of the PRG complex. Transportation to and from the PRG compound from the Las Vegas Convention Center will be provided as a courtesy to invitees, and those wishing to experience GTO.

The GTO series of line array speakers, offering a unique combination of high-power output in a compact and relatively lightweight cabinet, feature Outline’s patented Butterfly design. The cabinets deliver clear, non-colored, high-SPL audio capable of bringing listening environment quality to the live event experience. When coupled in an array, GTO’s unique V-shaped front baffle allows individual sound sources to be positioned much closer together than in conventional line-source systems. This facilitates superior acoustical coupling between high-frequency modules, thus producing a smooth yet extended HF response. It also creates the ideal “unbroken baffle” shape through an array, which minimizes diffraction and deterioration of the mid-high frequencies, contributing to the far-field performance of the system.
