RelampIt receives thousands of lamps during their month long projector lamp recycling program every year. They anticipate a record number of participants and lamps recycled during the 2012 event.
Kicking off during AV week and extending through the month of October, the annual RelampIt Recycling Raffle is RelampIt’s way of:

BURBANK, CA, OCTOBER 11, 2012—Bexel, a unit of the Vitec Group’s Services Division, and a leading worldwide provider of broadcast services and solutions, announces a significant purchase of ADAM modular matrix intercom systems from Telex, a leading manufacturer of dependable, top-of-the-line communication equipment. With the purchase, Bexel signals its continued commitment to supplying its customers the best possible intercom rental services.

The ADAM matrix supports a total of 272 ports in just a 7-RU frame. This system has the ability to expand a variety of ways, which include using MADI interface cards, RVON VOIP cards and “trunking” multiple systems together. Using a time-division multiplexing (TDM) technique, ADAM grows linearly as users are added. The system comes standard with newly redesigned, redundant high-current power supplies and redundant controllers, with its MCII-e Ethernet master controllers allowing for automatic changeover in the event of failure. The MCII-E master controller allows Ethernet connectivity between the ADAM intercom and a PC running the AZedit programming software. It can support 32 simultaneous AZedit sessions via Ethernet and three sessions via serial connection. Bexel packages this system in a custom rolling rack with UPS power supply, custom breakout panels and KP panel for QC. This helps to provide a turnkey solution for the customer.

“This purchase of Telex’s intercom equipment is part of Bexel’s continuing expansion of system solutions for major broadcast events. It will truly secure Bexel as the premier leader of intercom rental services,” says Tom Dickinson, chief technology officer, Bexel. “This half-million-dollar purchase is essential to Bexel building a new line of flypacks providing the best in service around the world. Offering clients complete turnkey solutions is always a driving force behind our purchases.”

To support the ADAM systems, Bexel has also purchased more than 125 Telex KP-32 intercom panels. The KP-32 has 32 keys with 30 of them being assignable, one for call-waiting response and one for headset/microphone/program selection and volume setup. The KP-32 features digital signal processing and binaural headset operation with left/right assignment of audio signals. It also introduces large, super-bright, long-life fluorescent displays with adjustable brightness control, making it suitable for all types of ambient lighting, from direct sunlight to darkness.

I’m looking forward to making my first appearance as an AES speaker at this year’s convention.”

“The 133rd Convention is shaping up as one of the most exciting in AES history,” Bob Moses concludes. “We are working hard to introduce important new events like our Project Studio Expo, and program tracks such as Sound For Pictures and Networked Audio. New WMS Gaming Headquarters Lobby Features 105-Foot Videowall Run By Alcorn McBride Digital Binloop HD Video Player

Alcorn McBride’s Digital Binloop HD multi-channel video player plays a key role in the attention-getting 105-foot videowall spanning the lobby of the new Chicago headquarters of WMS Gaming Inc., a leading global innovator in the design, manufacture and distribution of electronic and digital gaming entertainment and gaming machines for the casino industry.

The impressive videowall consists of seven HD displays each of which is comprised of nine 60-inch Sharp monitors. The displays are separated from one another by about two feet of space. Mounted above the lobby’s wood-paneled walls just under the ceiling, the videowall measures nine feet high and stretches 105 feet across the lobby.

Environmental Systems Designs hired Sound Inc. to handle the AV install for the videowall. Sound Inc. deployed 7 channels of Digital Binloop HD to play the changing video content, which attracts attention from visitors and employees alike.

The Digital Binloop HD provides up to 8 channels of HD video in a compact, economical and highly-reliable package designed for continuous daily use with no maintenance. Video clips are stored on CompactFlash media so there are no moving parts to wear out; each card can hold hours of media.

“With a videowall of that size the question is what to put on it,” notes Hank Schulz, Sales Engineer of Sound Inc. “A friend of mine who shoots commercials and does product branding helped us put together some ideas. We have footage of the Chicago skyline shot by seven HD cameras; we compressed 18 hours of material to 40 minutes. We also have waves on Newport Beach and an animation of hot air balloons in a blue sky. We even have amazing HD footage from the Boston Aquarium that makes the videowall look like a 100-foot long fish tank.”

Schulz reports that the Digital Binloop HD’s “reliability and performance has been good – it’s delivering video without any hiccups and working very well.” The two-foot gap between each display is accounted for in the system’s raster.

The WMS headquarters building is part of a new Technology Campus on the north side of Chicago designed by architect SCB. The campus master plan features six new high-performance buildings integrated into an existing manufacturing district along the shore of the Chicago River. The first phase of development includes the LEED Platinum HQ, which boasts four levels of offices plus a penthouse and landscaped rooftop garden.

The five-city training event kicks-off in Irvine, Calif., on Oct. 15 and runs as half-day morning and afternoon sessions. It features in-depth training from the experts at Samsung, Microsoft and Brawn Consulting and is designed to give participants the instruction required to sell, specify and deploy the SUR40. To register for an event, go to www.almoproav.com/samsungSUR40.

Melody Craigmyle, vice president of marketing for Almo Professional A/V said, “Because the SUR40 technology is so unique, we felt that it was extremely important to bring local training to our partners. This road show makes it as easy as possible for them to become certified experts on the SUR40, which can help create limitless new business opportunities.” Craigmyle added that participating partners will receive an exclusive offer to purchase an SUR40 demo unit from Almo Professional A/V at 50 percent off MSRP.

“The Samsung SUR40 Certification road show is a great way to explore the potential of this new and compelling interactive display solution, and continues our efforts to support channel partners through comprehensive training to keep them abreast of emerging technologies and trends,” said Richard Hutton, director of channel marketing at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division.

Two identical workshops will run at each session, the first from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the second from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., to give participants the flexibility to work the training into their schedules. Both sessions will include lunch. The agenda for each session follows:

About the SUR40
The SUR40 is designed especially for use in hospitality, retail, education and finance applications. It can recognize unique optical tags and detect physical objects placed on its surface, such as room keys or a retail item which then trigger a response. Applications can be installed on the SUR40 that will allow it to share information from Internet and Bluetooth technology devices, while allowing content to be dropped and dragged from the device to the SUR40 surface. And, it can recognize and react to more than 50 points of contact simultaneously, to allow multiple people to collaborate and connect.

The SUR40 can be used as a table, mounted on a wall or built into a custom fixture to increase interactivity. With HD quality and four built-in speakers, the visual and sound quality provide a fully immersive experience.

The Microsoft PixelSense vision-based technology is what enables the touch and object recognition capabilities of the SUR40, so applications respond to tagged objects and people’s fingers. The SUR40 also features powerful computing, blazing speed, and quick and simple multitasking with fast and powerful graphics. It can be customized to exactly fit the specifications of the organization. And its four USB ports allow for content to be limitless and for peripherals such as scanners, video cameras and printers to be attached, creating an even more powerful business tool.
