Autoscript Teleprompters and Software Drafted By the New York Yankees for Game-Winning Big-Screen Video Clips

NEW YORK, OCTOBER 1, 2012—To help keep players and coaching staff on cue for their big-screen video clips this season, the New York Yankees recruited teleprompting solutions from Autoscript, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company, and a world-leading teleprompting company. Autoscript LED8TFT-M portable teleprompters and +WinPlus Studio+ software help the team deliver game-winning entertainment to spectators in the stands.

Autoscript’s eight-inch LED8TFT, selected to join the Yankees during spring training, is ideal for portable prompting applications. Along with the LED8TFT, the production setup includes Sony cameras, tripods from Sachtler and Vinten as well as Litepanels lighting.

The LED8TFT incorporates a built-in tally light, tally sensor input, and provides an illuminated control panel for easy viewing. As brightness level is critical to a portable prompting system used outdoors, the LED8TFT high-bright display helps deliver outstanding performance under daylight conditions. In addition, the LED8TFT features a compact size, rugged all-metal case and an on-camera mounting system versatile enough for nearly any portable camera.

“We especially like the portability of the equipment, as we are often using it in the field. The LED8 gives us that flexibility,” says Michael Bonner, senior director of scoreboard & broadcasting, Yankees. “We also wanted our players to be comfortable with the readability and the pace of the prompter to ensure clear delivery of the messages, including PSAs, welcome messages, trivia questions, etc. that ultimately end up on the big screen during home games.”

+WinPlus Studio+ delivers the flexibility and smart design required by a professional broadcast environment. A Windows-based software package that adds the ease of “point-and-click” functionality to an intuitive on-screen edit display, +WinPlus Studio+ can provide stand-alone prompting for presentation and general production both in the studio and on location. Features include a fully active run order, which can be manipulated at any time during scrolling, as well as instant prompt editing. WinPlus Studio is available with an internal PCI card or external box connected via USB.

“It is really simple to make a quick fix in the software,” adds Bonner. “Every now and then a player might suggest a copy change, so using the WinPlus software, we’re able to simply make the change at the player’s request and it appears on the monitor for them just how they wanted it. In addition, if we need assistance with the hardware or software, it is easy to reach out to the support folks and get solutions.”

Sinclair Broadcast Group Chooses T-VIPS for Reliable PSIP Re-branding and Monitoring of TV Station Signals

Millburn, New Jersey – T-VIPS America Inc, a global leader in professional video transport solutions for contribution, distribution and DTV broadcast, announced that Sinclair Broadcast Group purchased and installed several T-VIPS products as part of a network that allows the broadcaster to transport, monitor and process ASI and IP streams between its stations.

Included in Sinclair’s purchase were multiple T-VIPS CP505 ATSC Processors, TNS546 Transport Stream Monitors and TVG425 ASI/IP Gateways. Installed by TI Broadcast Solutions Group, an Atlanta-based systems integration firm, Sinclair is using the T-VIPS equipment to share programming among its central Florida stations.

“As we roll out our new technical operations facility in West Palm Beach, we were looking for a solution to transport and monitor ASI/IP streams to multiple locations,” said Don Roberts Director of Television Systems for Sinclair Broadcast Group. “We’re always looking for ways to make our operations more efficient without impacting on-air quality. We’ve used T-VIPS devices for many years and have been very happy with their performance, reliability and value. It was a natural choice for us to continue working with T-VIPS.”

Sinclair is using the T-VIPS CP505 processors to convert incoming programming via IP network to an ASI stream. The CP505 has two inputs with automatic error detection and switching. If the incoming signal loses its PSIP information, the CP505 will continue to carousel data to prevent the loss of PSIP data in its output stream.

The TNS546 Transport Stream monitors are used to monitor the integrity of the input programming data and generate alarms for system switch-over in the event of errors.

The TVG425 units enable Sinclair to easily convert between ASI and IP data streams.

Sinclair’s new T-VIPS gear is being installed and commissioned now, and will be online by early October of this year. Roberts is confident that T-VIPS will continue to meet Sinclair’s networking and reliability requirements.

“These products are robust, the failure rate is almost nonexistent, and they perform at the highest level of quality,” he said. “We always seek out the best options possible when building a new infrastructure, and T-VIPS certainly fits with that philosophy.”

Medialon Show Control technology at “Quartier des Spectacles” in Montreal, the world’s largest coordinated architectural projection installation ever made

The Quartier des Spectacles is a roughly 1 square kilometer area downtown of Montreal. This area of the city had historically been filled with theatres and cabarets, but in the last 40 years, it had fallen into blight and become an unfavorable, and sometimes dangerous, area of the city. The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership was formed in 2003 to revitalize this once vibrant cultural heart of Montreal. Now, it is the home of not only theatres and cabarets, but restaurants, shopping centers, and many outdoor music and art festivals every year.

Eight main sites and many more to come have transformed buildings into canvases for architectural projection artwork. One of the rules of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is that the artistic projects should only be used for public art, not for commercialism, so advertising and logos are not allowed as part of the building projections. Many businesses have joined in the fun and added architectural lighting elements of their own to really make the neighborhood lively.

The projection installations are not all simply playback of rendered content. In some cases, interactive elements allow the public to interact with the projections, using game technology and sensors of various types to make the projections truly unique.

Each architectural projection installation has custom made projector housings sitting on rooftops of adjacent buildings that contain not only the high powered projectors but also the media servers, networking gear, show controllers, IP cameras, temperature and humidity sensors, and climate control (for heating, air conditioning, dehumidifying, etc.) The projections run every night year round, so the equipment inside the projector housings must be in a climate-controlled environment for optimum performance. The local show controller (Medialon Showmaster ST) controls and supervises the equipment, schedules playback of shows, controls the temperature and humidity inside the projector housing, manages remote reboot of unresponsive devices, and sends e-mail alarms of any malfunctions , failures, or unusual humidity or temperature readings.

The larger buildings require multiple projector housings all linked together. These linked housings are managed by a single Showmaster ST, but each housing contains a local media server connected to the projectors in that housing.

The technical production team of Quartier des Spectacles has devised a standard set of equipment used in all of the projection installations. This allows for easier stocking of spare parts, easier maintenance, and faster installation of new sites or changes to shows at the permanent sites. Some of the installations are temporary and the equipment is only installed on a temporary basis, allowing flexibility to add new sites for special events.

The Showmasters at each site are connected to the main Quartier des Spectacles headquarters at the Place des Festivals by dedicated fiber optics, microwave radio transmission, or through a virtual private network on the Internet. The main system can control and monitor all the remote sites and even pull up camera views from each site’s IP cameras. The system can even be controlled and monitored remotely from system administrators’ iPhones.

The main installation at the heart of Quartier des Spectacles is the Place des Festivals. This square is where the many festivals take place in the Quartier. There are fountains and lights embedded into the sidewalk. In the summer, fountain and lighting shows accompany the adjacent building projections. The street lights can even be turned off by the show control system during the shows. Since all the systems are tied to the main control system, all sites can be coordinated and synchronized together.

Quartier des Spectacles is the world’s largest coordinated architectural projection installation, made possible by Show Control technology from Medialon.
