New RS-IL04UL Ultra Long Focus Zoom Lens From Canon U.S.A. Brings More Versatility to REALiS Pro A/V Projectors

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., November 7, 2012 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the RS-IL04UL Ultra Long Focus Zoom Lens which can be used with the Company’s REALiS Professional A/V Series projectors to bring high-image quality to a wide variety of locations. With this lens, users have the flexibility of installing their professional A/V systems anywhere from 15 to 290 feet from the desired projection area with minimal image quality change.

“Canon is committed to providing users with a complete system to satisfy their projecting needs,” noted Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager of the Imaging Technologies and Communications Group, Canon U.S.A. “The addition of this new lens helps expand the locations and applications where our REALiS models can be utilized.”

The Canon RS-IL04UL Ultra Long Focus Zoom Lens is compatible with all current Canon REALiS Pro A/V Series projectors, including all WUX 4000, WUX 5000, WX6000 and SX6000 models. With a 1.95X zoom ratio and a throw ratio of approximately 3.8~7.3:1, this lens is optimized for 60” to 600” screens and is ideally suited for larger venues such as houses of worship, auditoriums, and lecture halls.

Similar to other lenses Canon provides for its REALiS Pro A/V Series projectors, the RS-IL04UL Ultra Long Focus Zoom Lens includes independently floating elements, helping to ensure minimal image quality change and light loss throughout the zoom length of the lens, thus greatly reducing the need to over-specify projector brightness to compensate for light loss. For example, the brightness of the Canon REALiS WUX4000 projector drops only 17% from the wide angle to the telephoto setting of the standard zoom lens, while competitive products can lose up to 35% of their brightness in making the same adjustment.

REALiS Pro A/V interchangeable lenses offer color accuracy and image quality that users look for from a fixed lens combined with the flexibility of optical zoom. All of the lens options in the REALiS Pro A/V series include features developed from Canon’s industry-leading EOS technology, including aspheric lens elements help to diminish distortion and an Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) element to reduce chromatic aberration. The lenses are also similarly sized to fit within the body of the projector, allowing for easy installation, regardless of the desired throw distance, when using a lift.

The suggested list price of the RS-IL04UL Ultra Long Focus Zoom Lens is $3499 and it is scheduled to be available at the end of November.

Technomad Sounds Off At Connecticut Waterfront Home

Vernal and Paris loudspeakers deliver music across 15,000-square-foot backyard

BOSTON, November 7, 2012 — The picturesque Long Island Sound waterfront has turned many visitors into homeowners. The area recently caught the attention of one Connecticut family looking for a new house. The family discovered the perfect home and embarked on an ambitious renovation from the ground up, building a new 13,000-square foot home complete with a backyard entertainment system featuring 13 Technomad weatherproof loudspeakers.

“The homeowners bought the property, knocked down the existing house, and built the new one to their specifications,” said David Kepke, owner of the NY-based Multimedia Resource Group, who spearheaded the installation. “This was a three-year project and the Technomad loudspeakers were the final touch, completing the outdoor entertainment system. Technomad delivers crisp, clear audio, and you never have to worry about weather damage. That’s why I keep coming back to them: stellar construction, versatility, and overall excellent sound quality.”

Multimedia Resource Group provides premium custom electronics systems for the home, office, and other private spaces such as yachts. Kepke worked closely with the homeowners and their architect, and designed the system to provide audio throughout the 15,000 square foot backyard.

“It’s a large open space, so to ensure smooth coverage across the entire yard I divided the area into three zones: the veranda, lawn area, and pool area,” said Kepke. “Each has its own group of Technomad loudspeakers, chosen to deliver even audio coverage at just the right output level.”

Kepke installed six Vernal loudspeakers in the veranda ceiling, four Paris loudspeakers beneath the veranda for the lawn area, and two Paris models with one Soho subwoofer for the pool area. He knew Technomad was the ideal fit based on his past experiences with the company, having used them extensively on a 280-foot luxury yacht and many other projects.

“This house is located right on the Long Island Sound waterfront, so the loudspeakers had to fully withstand moisture, rain, salt, and snow,” he said. “Technomad loudspeakers also come in a variety of sizes, colors, and output levels to fit virtually any application, so I had a lot to choose from. There was no doubt in my mind that Technomad was the only choice for the job.”

The six Vernal loudspeakers installed in the veranda ceiling, are mounted with custom stainless steel brackets that are also weather resistant. “The custom brackets allowed the Vernal loudspeakers to be mounted in such a way that they are recessed behind a trim ring. This allowed the architect to achieve the clean look they desired, and I was able to use a high-performance, completely weatherproof loudspeaker.”

According to Kepke, the lightweight Vernal was the sensible choice for the long, narrow veranda as it measures just 9.1 inches x 6.1 inches and weighs only 8.5 pounds. Kepke mounted the four Paris lawn zone area loudspeakers underneath the elevated veranda decking. The final two Paris loudspeakers and the Soho subwoofer were installed in a planting bed next to the pool.

“The integrated fly points, standard on all Technomad loudspeakers, made mounting under the veranda a very simple task,” said Kepke. “The homeowner didn’t want them visible in the pool area zone, so installing them in the planting beds made perfect sense. They face the lounge area and pool deck, and deliver full, rich, detailed sound.”

The system provides brilliant sound quality, plenty of flexibility and tremendous ease-of-use, thanks to a centralized control system. Crestron touch screens throughout the house offer the ability to control source and volume in any audio zone from anywhere inside or outside the house. This bodes well for entertaining a variety of guests.

“The homeowners can change the volume and select the source of music, using an iPod, iPhone, Sirius radio, Pandora, ReQuest music server or something else,” said Kepke. “They have several iPod docking stations strategically located throughout the home, and can use any one as a music source in any of the 24 zones. It’s simple to use, and the flexibility really appeals to them. Overall, the homeowners are extremely pleased, and they plan on entertaining in their outdoor space for years to come.”

Spyder Joins the Festivities at HITT Contracting’s 75th Anniversary

A Spyder was not only welcome at the 75th anniversary celebration for HITT Contracting, it was an essential part of the festivities. BARTKRESA design of Los Angeles used Vista System’s Spyder to showcase video content during the milestone.

From its beginnings as a small family business run from the dining room table of Warren and Myrtle Hitt, HITT Contracting Inc. has grown to become one of the top 100 largest general contractors in the U.S. with its headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia. John Parker of Hutchinson Design Group asked BARTKRESA design to create the festive ambience for the 75th anniversary party, which included video content.

Bart Kresa used a Spyder to switch the six outputs from a pair of video servers to three sets of triple stacked projectors. Content was played back from a Dataton WATCHOUT system v. 5.2 and two rack-mountable computers, with 6 outputs each, built in-house.

“Spyder gave us a way to smoothly switch between the two video playback systems we used for the event,” says Kresa. “We were still editing the materials while the show was running. So as we had one system online playing back the content, we were editing on the other system and then going online with system B and editing on system A.”

Challenged by a short time to design and produce the show and with a short load in just the night before, Kresa selected Spyder to give him “peace of mind. I was very comfortable knowing that Spyder, which is so reliable, would be at the heart of our system.”

He notes that, “Although I didn’t use most of the Spyder features I normally use, I am very happy that I made the Spyder call because everything worked so well. The team of Spyder and Christie projectors can’t be beat!”

KBVO Delivers Local Sports Coverage with Broadcast Pix

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ today that KBVO, the MyNetworkTV affiliate serving Austin, Texas (DMA #47), is using a Granite™ 1000 Video Control Center™ to produce local high school football and basketball games. Granite is a key component in the station’s 20-foot box production trailer, because its built-in Fluent™ workflow tools allow a two-person team in the trailer to produce a professional broadcast.

“I love the Granite system. It’s very easy to use,” said Korey Wisland, production manager, who directs almost every local sports program. “We wouldn’t be doing this the old conventional way – it costs too much. The Granite makes it possible. With a larger production crew, the numbers don’t work.”

Owned by LIN Television Corp., KBVO is co-located with sister station KXAN, the local NBC affiliate, and KNVA, the CW affiliate with which LIN has a local marketing agreement. Last year, station officials decided to rebrand KBVO as a local sports station. The strategy included a new on-air look, broadcasting San Antonio Spurs basketball and Texas Rangers baseball, expanding coverage of Big 12 college basketball and SEC college football, and producing coverage of local high school football and basketball.

The HD production trailer, purchased through Markertek in 2010, is being used for its third season of high school football. The Granite was purchased from Omega Broadcast Group in Austin. Beyond high school sports, KXAN has also used the production trailer for town hall events, and will use it for news coverage of upcoming Formula 1 racing events.

During high school football season, KBVO usually produces two games each week, a Thursday night game that is broadcast live and a Friday night live-to-tape game that is broadcast during the weekend. Games are also available for online viewing at www.kxan.com.

Fluent-View provides multi-view capabilities for the trailer’s four 20-inch LCD monitors. Wisland has created several customized layouts for football, basketball, and news coverage. For game coverage, Fluent Clip Store is used extensively for commercials and sponsor billboards, as well as promos and show opens. In addition, the station’s graphics department creates backgrounds and lower-third graphics, and Granite’s built-in Inscriber CG is used to add text for each contest.

On game day, a typical five-camera setup includes two high cameras and two field cameras, plus one robotic camera in the booth that is controlled through the Granite. During the game, one crew member is responsible for video replay and audio, while the second crew member handles directing, graphics, and clips.

With a skeleton crew in the trailer, Wisland said Fluent Rapid CG™ 2 is a “critical” tool during football and basketball coverage. “We have to use it for sports, especially ‘down and distance’ stats,” he explained. “It’s the only way we could keep up with the score. It’s a simple as it could possibly be.”

An option for Granite and Mica™ systems, Fluent Rapid CG 2 streamlines data-intensive CG graphics creation by automatically integrating databases, RSS feeds, and custom actions like scorekeeping into templates. The result is customized graphics with significantly less manual effort. Fluent Rapid CG 2 also supports Daktronics scoreboards, which saves Wisland from having to set up an additional camera at most sites to shoot the scoreboard clock.

About Broadcast Pix The leader in live video production systems, Broadcast Pix was founded in 2002 and has customers in more than 110 countries. Its Video Control Centers™ combine an integrated switcher, clip server, CG, and device control software with patented control panels, unique touch-screens, and exceptional displays that enable operators to create with confidence. That confidence is further enhanced with rock-solid stability, patented technologies to maintain lip sync, and great technical support. Systems range from compact systems controlled by touch-screen or voice automation to sophisticated 2 M/E control panels.
