HARMAN’s JBL VTX Line Arrays Rock the Crowd at Germany’s 20th Anniversary Arsch Huh Music Festival

NORTHRIDGE, California – The recent Arsch Huh music festival in Cologne, Germany was one of the largest of the year, with 85,000 people enjoying performances by more than 25 bands including BAP, Bläck Fööss, Brings, Tommy Engel and other notable German artists. The concert, organized in 1992 to stand against racism, celebrated its 20th anniversary with spectacular sound courtesy of Sirius Showequipment AG and an audio system featuring HARMAN’s JBL VTX Series line arrays.

“We were one of Europe’s first users of the JBL VTX Series and knew from previous experience that they are remarkably clear and powerful, especially for their size and they would be ideal for this big outdoor festival event,” said Wolfgang “Schabbach” Neumann of Sirius. For the main PA the company deployed two left and right towers with 15 VTX V25 fullsize line array elements and eight S28 subwoofers per side. In addition, several delay towers were set up, with the main (first delay line) towers each containing seven V25 line array elements.

The speakers were driven by 30 Crown I-Tech 12000 HD amplifiers, and Neumann and his crew used HARMAN’s JBL HiQnet Performance Manager™ software to set up and tune the system.

“We had more than 25 bands and artists going on and off the stage and a number of different front of house engineers using this VTX-based system for the very first time,” Neumann said. “Some of them performed only two or three songs. As a result there was not much time to get the sound right for each act. We also had the added pressure of knowing that the entire 5 1/2-hour show was being broadcast live on German television.”

“However, using the new JBL VTX Series is easily explained,” Neumann continued. “You switch it on, you power up your desk, you push the faders up and the sound is already there, sounding really great right from the start.”

In addition, Neumann noted that the Crown I-Tech 12000 HD amplifier is an ideal match for VTX. “It’s the most powerful amp on the planet,” Neumann said. “We’ve experimented with other amplifiers including 4-channel models but I would say that 2-channel amplifiers, especially the I-Tech 12000 HD, have more power when you push the masters to ’11.’ It also helps that the VTX Series and Crown amps work hand in hand with Performance Manager, which works very well and is easy to operate.”

“Achim Schnall, front of house mixer for headliner BAP told me it was ‘an easy to mix on system,’ and our front of house ‘babysitter’ engineer Daniel Schindler told me that for him the system was ‘unbelievably powerful and easy to operate,’” Neumann added. “Without a doubt, the JBL VTX Series are the most efficient and best-sounding loudspeakers we have ever had in our inventory.”

Clay Paky Sharpy Fixtures Accompany Kelly Clarkson on Her Stronger Tour

Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures are living up to the name of Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger Tour with their punchy performance on the road. “With their very bright concentrated beam and fast effects, the Sharpys hold their own for such a little light,” reports lighting designer Roy Bennett. “They really add another layer to the picture.”

Clarkson has been headlining her fourth tour in support of her latest studio album, also called “Stronger.” She has played dates in North America, Europe and Australia.

Bennett equally divides his complement of Sharpys in the air and on the floor upstage in vertical racks. “I use them primarily for effects,” he says. “I key people with them to play around with the prism and the frost, which is an interesting effect on people. The overall look of the show is very clean; there are a lot of soft goods on the set. We’re projecting and mapping onto a series of inner and outer columns.”

Programmer Cory FitzGerald has worked with Sharpys on several shows and finds them “a very versatile light. They’re really fast, and you can get a lot of different looks with them. I’ve been doing some smaller shows with Sharpy, and if you put eight to 15 of them on a rig, all of a sudden it’s ‘The X-Factor.’”

The Sharpys, supplied by Upstaging, have been “performing great” on the tour, Bennett says. “I love them.”

A.C.T Lighting is the distributor for Clay Paky in North America.

Francesco Romagnoli, Clay Paky Area Manager for North and Latin America, comments, “We’re very proud to see such a high profile lighting designer using our lights for such a high profile artist. We’re glad that Roy is such a big fan of our lights.”

About Clay Paky
Headquartered in Seriate (Bergamo), Italy, Clay Paky SPA has a history of designing and manufacturing innovative professional show lighting. The company was founded in 1976 by entrepreneur Pasquale Quadri who anticipated the enormous impact the evolution of technology would have on the show and entertainment worlds.

ArcLight Cinemas Bring A Taste Of Hollywood To La Jolla, California With Christie Solaria Series Digital Cinema Projectors

Preferred Christie Partner ACS Enterprises Selects Christie As Exclusive Digital Cinema Provider At New La Jolla Theater In San Diego

Expanding its premium movie viewing experience to San Diego for the first time, ArcLight Cinemas once again trusted Christie digital projectors to exclusively light up the exhibitor’s new 14-screen multiplex in La Jolla, providing audiences with its signature Hollywood viewing experience that treats every guest like a star. The new 1,800-seat ArcLight La Jolla multiplex houses an array of Christie DLP digital cinema projectors, including five Christie CP4230 4K-resolution units, with one unit powering ArcLight’s first “Wide Screen” concept auditorium. ArcLight also plans to upgrade the projectors to High Frame Rate (HFR) 3D technology in time to present Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit,” since the Solaria Series is upgradeable to HFR.

“All our screens offer the best in sight, sound, and viewing comfort, with a wide variety of dynamic programming, ranging from the newest Hollywood blockbusters to independent art house fare, cult favorites and classics,” said Joe Miraglia, director of design, construction and facilities at ArcLight. “With such diverse content, ArcLight looked to Christie for a range of versatile and superior performance projectors from the Solaria Series, including the Christie CP2210 2K, Christie CP4220 and Christie CP4230 4K projectors, all of which provide the best in both conventional and premier movie experiences.”

ArcLight Cinemas recently opened its doors to the La Jolla community and held a special event on Friday, Nov. 16, to officially welcome its new audience.

According to Miraglia, the choice was also made easier thanks to ArcLight’s long history with Christie, which has resulted in the installation of 61 projectors in the company’s four Los Angeles-based theaters. With a mission to create the most memorable movie-going experience for film lovers and casual moviegoers alike, ArcLight Cinemas has been changing the way people experience going to the movies for ten years. Its sit-down café, extra-wide seats with double armrests, and full service concession areas make it more than a place to see a movie – it is also a destination for entertainment and a great night out.

Jose Alvarado, chief executive officer of ACS Enterprises Inc., which installed the Christie projectors in the La Jolla Theater at the Westfield UTC shopping mall, remarked that ArcLight auditoriums are unique in their designs. They are not constructed with maximum seating in mind; instead, they are built around the screen, focusing on a “black box” design aesthetic, which emphasizes undistracted viewing and features the best in sight and sound technology. Familiar with Christie’s winning combination of product and support excellence from its previous installations at ArcLight theaters, ACS powered all of the new screens exclusively with Christie projection systems.

“Christie continues to provide the highest quality picture presentation possible, offering best-in-class technology, as well as excellent technical support and expertise,” said Alvarado. “At ACS, we strive to efficiently meet our clients’ unique requirements, as does Christie. This shared philosophy is the basis of our highly successful partnership. ArcLight needed technology that would benefit greatly from the advances sweeping the industry for 3D and HFR film, and I trusted Christie completely to provide the most reliable products available today.”

“With the flexibility and adaptability of the fully DCI-compliant Solaria Series projectors, Christie presented the best solutions to meet ArcLight’s distinct audiences,” said Craig Sholder, Christie’s vice president of Entertainment Solutions. “Christie offers exhibitors the most cost-effective path to the next generation of digital cinema technologies, including HFR 3D movies. We continue to provide an unparalleled range of products and technical support, and are pleased to again be selected as the exclusive digital cinema provider by preferred partner ACS Enterprises, and to get the ‘V.I.P’ treatment from ArcLight Cinemas.”

CHULA VISTA, California, November 27, 2012 — Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California, recently updated a number of its Hitachi CP-WX4021N projectors with the new Hitachi Solutions connectivity products. The projectors are now being used with the Hitachi MS-1WL Wireless Multifunctional Switcher, which comes equipped with a transmitter and receiver.

Saddleback College currently has more than 40 CP-WX4021N 3LCD projectors, which were purchased in early 2011. “We purchased them because we found them be above and beyond other projector models in terms of performance, the image quality was better and they were more cost-effective,” said Will Lakow of Saddleback College’s Multimedia Department. “We also found the HDMI connectivity to be a huge advantage.”

Saddleback College recently equipped four of its projectors with the MS-1WL Wireless Multifunctional Switcher. These projectors are located in a collection of classrooms known as The Village, with each classroom in close proximity to each other.

According to Lakow, the MS-1WL has proven advantageous in a variety of ways. “As far as installation goes, it’s very convenient because it’s allowing us to eliminate a lot of cabling, plus the install time is quicker,” he said. “Overall, the entire system is now more efficient and easier to operate.”
