Clear-Com Features Wide Range of Intercom Offerings at ISE 2013

AMSTERDAM, 28 JANUARY 2013 ─ Clear-Com®, a global leader in critical voice communications systems, is featuring its latest range of intercom offerings at the 2013 ISE show (Stand 11-E67). Among the systems available for demonstration are the recently unveiled Eclipse HX matrices and HelixNet Partyline system. The company also presents its BroaMan interface option and the latest upgrades to the Tempest®2400 wireless intercom.

“Clear-Com has made several exciting product announcements in the last few months, and we’re pleased to show them to the ISE community,” says Dan Muchmore, Regional Sales Manager for UK, Ireland and Scandinavia, Clear-Com. “Our 40 years of experience in the dynamic world of Broadcast and Live Productions have allowed us to build a portfolio of advanced wired and wireless intercom technologies that essentially meets the demands of many System Integrators, Consultants, and End-Users within the Pro-Audio space. Clear-Com products and services have resolved communication challenges for a variety of applications and markets, including education, corporate, cruise ships and offshore.”

The Eclipse HX Digital Matrix Systems, along with the Eclipse HX (EHX) Configuration Software, are powerful matrix intercoms that offer fast performance, high system capacity and simplified operations and administration. Eclipse HX comprises the Eclipse HX-Omega, Eclipse HX-Median and Eclipse HX-PiCo matrices, as well as the EHX software. In facilities where matrix intercom systems and resources are often shared across multiple areas, fast and highly intuitive systems are critical to reliably execute system-wide changes in real time and with minimal impact on system users. Users can make changes on the Eclipse HX systems quickly and without advanced notice. This capability is especially important in live operations, such as theatre productions.

The EHX software was architected for rapid processing of configuration and routing cards to optimise system performance and speed. Its user interface is designed to be much more intuitive and easier to set up. The Eclipse HX-Omega port density offers 460 ports per 6RU frame, making it the highest density intercom matrix on the market. PiCo-Link provides intelligent audio linking between co-located Eclipse HX-PiCos, allowing users to expand resources with just two rack-unit spaces. Clear-Com’s V-Series panels, frame cards and interfaces are compatible with the new Eclipse HX range to provide a seamless logical upgrade path for existing Eclipse customers.

The Tempest®2400 with Seamless Roaming and Tempest®2400 MasterBelt add advanced wireless capabilities to the Tempest family of digital wireless intercom systems. With the latest additions, users are afforded even more wireless coverage options. The Tempest2400 with Seamless Roaming is ideal for sound designers working at multi-venue or large-scale events, as it allows users to move freely throughout large venues separated by sizeable distances. This includes multi-room complexes, multi-level facilities and sports arenas. Users can effortlessly and seamlessly roam across 16 different coverage zones without interference or dropouts.

For small-scale productions, where an untethered and mobile system is needed, the Tempest2400 MasterBelt is an ideal wireless solution. It offers most of the features, reliability and robustness of the Tempest2400 BaseStation within a compact, portable packaging of a BeltStation. The MasterBelt can be paired with any standard Tempest2400 two-channel BeltStation to create a six full-featured, full-duplex two-channel system.

The HelixNet™ Partyline Intercom System is the industry’s first digital network partyline intercom with a unique set of capabilities to provide efficiency, cost-savings and flexibility from setup to operation. The revolutionary HelixNet platform has proven itself by providing communication at high-profile events such as the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics.

Included in the HelixNet portfolio of products are the HMS-4X Main Station, HBP-2X HelixNet Beltpacks, the HLI-2W2 two-wire Interface Module and the HLI-4W2 four-wire Interface Module. Each HMS-4X Main Station offers four intercom channels, program audio and power for up to 20 beltpacks over a shield twisted-pair cable (e.g. microphone cable, CAT-5 or CAT-6). Users can also work off one’s existing shielded cable infrastructure to centrally manage the entire system from the Main Station with a single cable. The HelixNet beltpack also functions as a source assignment panel, allowing users to select any two of four channels to get the job done. Furthermore, the high fidelity system delivers superb audio clarity and is rugged enough to withstand demanding work environments.

Clear-Com will also feature the BroaMan DiViNe V3R-FX-ICOM-SDI video and intercom signal transport interface, the latest offering from its expanded partnership with Optocore/BroaMan. The DiViNe V3R-FX-ICOM-SDI provides scalable, protocol-independent routing, repeating, transport and distribution of multiple signals over optical fibre. It is equipped with (four) four-wire RJ45 matrix ports and (four) four-wire RJ45 panel ports. This ensures that either matrices or intercom panels can be connected to the unit using standard CAT cables. It also allows for distribution of audio and control data through an optical network. The unit is capable of housing up to six SD/HD/3G-SDI coaxial video inputs or outputs that are converted to and from single-mode DiViNe optical fibre links.

In addition, TI’s Wall Color Correction enables more accurate colors even when images are projected against light yellow, light green, blue and pink walls or even on a blackboard.

The projectors’ exclusive Intelligent Eco Mode automatically changes the brightness of the lamp according to the brightness level of the screen. Based on Hitachi’s ImageCare lamp power control function, these features provide optimal picture performance with maximum energy savings. The projectors’ fan is also regulated and the already-quiet 33dB operating level is reduced to 29dB in Eco mode.

grandMA2 Goes on a Mission to the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s Urbana 12

grandMA2 went on a mission shortly after Christmas when almost 16,000 people gathered in St. Louis for Urbana 12, the triennial student missions conference held by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA. Dodd Technologies Inc. furnished the grandMA2 as part of its lighting, audio, video and scenic support for the event’s arena show. A.C.T. Lighting is the exclusive distributor of grandMA in North America.

With the theme of God’s “Great Invitation,” the conference ran from December 27-31 at the America’s Center and Edward Jones Dome. Attendees had access to more than 100 workshops and over 250 mission organizations and seminaries exhibiting at Urbana 12.

Dodd Technologies was responsible for supporting the three main stages for the show: one for the worship band, one for drama and skits, and the center stage for speakers and business activities. “We used one giant rig with 280 moving heads, which was set up so they could use some or all of it as they bounced back and forth from stage to stage,” explains lighting programmer Jason Greene. “We tried to plan for the size of the rig given the time constraints of programming. We had an hour or two in the morning to program each day, but there were so many cues and transitions.”

Building the show ahead of time using grandMA2 onPC with grandma 3D MA Lighting’s free visualizer software – gave the Dodd programmers a good leg up, however. “It was very helpful for the client and gave us a good idea of what everything was going to look like and how it was going to work,” says Greene. “It was huge to be able to start programming before we even left the office.”

Deploying two full consoles enabled the programmers to work double duty without stepping one each other’s toes. “The grandMA2′s user modes allowed us to do that,” Greene reports. “The NPUs and two port nodes were also handy. We had a lot of stuff out on the house, including five circle trusses. We had to get signals to a lot of places, and grandMA2′s functionality was great about getting the signal from the console to the lights.”

Networking was key to a smooth and easy show, he adds. “It was a very large room and networking allowed us to go over a very flexible and dependable medium. We were also capable of going over fiber. Having all these elements communicate with the console and all work together was huge.”

Andy Meghanhoffen was the lighting designer for the show at Urbana 12.

Black Diamond™ Motorized

A new and truly unique motorized design utilizing SI’s award-winning Black Diamond ambient light rejection screen technology, Black Diamond Motorized is a sleek and sexy flat panel alternative that actually disappears when not in use, ideal for virtually any environment or application. Utilizing one motor, four custom helixes, and a spool of slender aircraft cable, Black Diamond Motorized silently lowers a thin wing containing the rolled Black Diamond screen downward from a recessed ceiling-mounted cassette. The cable-hung wing then stops, and from it, a small tube quickly emerges and lowers itself down to an adjustable, pre-determined image height, leaving only the image space in sight.

Because Black Diamond screens do not require masking or any black drop material whatsoever, there is no visible material above, below, or on either side of the screen surface, allowing the images projected on Black Diamond Motorized to appear as though they are suspended in air. Unlike flat panel TVs, Black Diamond Motorized delivers zero glare and reflection when used in a bright environment, and by virtue of its industry-leading Black Diamond ambient light rejection screen technology, light scatter is measurably reduced by over 75%. Delivering a next-level entertainment experience while literally disappearing into the room’s existing décor when not in use, Black Diamond Motorized appeals to the senses – and satisfies the needs of - a diverse audience in either residential or commercial environments. Black Diamond Motorized is the ultimate blend of art + science.

SI has a projection screen solution for nearly any budget, any application, and any aesthetic. ISE 2013 attendees are encouraged to visit the Home Cinema Europe stand (#1-N53), see the demo, and learn more about delivering next-level entertainment experiences to a diverse clientele by incorporating Screen Innovations projection screens into their installations.

SVSi’s Next Generation of Networked AV Products will Support Ultra-HD

Integrators can be assured that their AV switching and distribution infrastructure will support tomorrow’s technology

Huntsville, Alabama (January 16, 2013) — SVSi, the industry’s leading provider of Networked AV solutions and pioneer in IP-based AV distribution solutions announced today that the technology used in its next generation of Networked Encoders and Decoders is capable of supporting Ultra-HD resolutions of 4K up to 120-Hz and 8K up to 60-Hz. SVSi’s integrators can now be assured that their Networked AV video switching and distribution infrastructure will be able to support tomorrow’s technology.

“I’m very excited to see this growth path in resolution and frame-rate since SVSi technology can readily accommodate Ultra-HD traffic on existing gigabit copper networks without having to wait for next generation 10-gig fiber or copper appliances,” said Andy Whitehead, President of SVSi. “SVSi’s Networked AV technology is capable of 8K at 60-Hz through a single gigabit drop, while Non-IP-based distribution solutions like HDBaseT require 10.2-Gbps to send 4K at 30-Hz.”

As Ultra High-Definition (also referred to as Super Hi-Vision) devices make their way into corporate and entertainment venues around the globe, SVSi is engineering its products to accommodate the anticipated demand for the latest adaptation of High Definition. This year’s Consumer Electronic Show proved that Ultra-HD is the next big step in HD mania with mega companies like Samsung, Sharp and Sony who are already showcasing their Ultra-HD innovations. Winning the category of “Best in HDTVs” was Sony’s 56-inch Ultra-HD OLED. Another momentous event for Ultra-HD was during the 2012 London Olympics where the games were broadcasted live from the BBC Radio Theatre, BBC Scotland and the National Media Museum in Bradford using NHK’s 8K Ultra HDTV.

From televisions to camcorders to cellphones to tablets, users can expect Ultra-HD to start making its way into retail stores in the beginning of 2013. As a leading manufacturer of AV distribution equipment, SVSi is making sure that its products provide the most advanced technological benefits for audio and video system designers and installers. Pro Audio Technology ”Called-In” by HGTV’s Cousins on Call TV Show for Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom Remodel

Pro Audio Technology ”Called-In” by HGTV’s Cousins on Call TV Show for Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom Remodel

The HGTV show details a surprise total renovation of the Odom’s home screening room

Huntington Beach, CA – January 25, 2013 – Pro Audio Technology (PRO), the leader in loudspeakers and DSP-programmable amplifier systems for residential properties, participated in the Prime Time HGTV show, Cousins on Call, which follows real-life cousins and best friends Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri, as they transform outdated, dysfunctional homes to create dream living spaces.

In the episode, titled “Khloe and the Cousins Surprise Lamar”, Pro Audio Technology worked with Joseph Cali Systems Design of Santa Monica, CA to install a new state-of-the-art home cinema system. All new loudspeakers, subwoofers and power amplifiers with more than four-thousand-five-hundred watts of total power, were installed to create a no-holds-barred home theater surprise for the NBA star.

According to HGTV’s website:
“Khloe Kardashian Odom and Lamar Odom love their LA home. But they do have one room that they’ve never liked and rarely use. Plus it’s purple, the color of Lamar’s old team! So while Lamar is away on an NBA road trip, Khloe brings in the Cousins to transform unused space into a state-of-the-art theater. The couple wants a comfortable place to watch games or movies with their friends and family. So John and Anthony will design custom redwood accents to give the high-tech theater a warm and homey feel.”

“It was a real pleasure working with Anthony and John, the Cousins on Call crew and Joe Cali to create a home theater that meets the refined style demands of Khloe Kardashian Odom but that also achieves the visceral audio performance she knew Lamar would love,” said L. Paul Hales, Pro Audio Technology founder. “It took careful planning to get the right blend of aesthetics and performance, but there’s no doubt this theater will recreate the emotion and impact of movies, live sporting events, or whatever entertainment they’re enjoying.”

The episode, Khloe and the Cousins Surprise Lamar will air on HGTV at the following times:

Wednesday, January 23 – 8 p.m. and 3 a.m.

LIGHTNING-STRUCK MONASTERY BLESSED BY ASHLY AMPLIFIERS

ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA: Mount Saint Benedict Monastery in Erie, Pennsylvania is the spiritual center of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie and a nursing facility for elderly women. Its main chapel seats approximately one hundred individuals, and the sisters hold two well-attended services a day. Recently, the chapel was struck by lightning, which damaged all of the electronics in its sound reinforcement system beyond repair. The company that had installed that system, Fact AV Technologies of North East, Pennsylvania, quickly stepped in with a loaner system. In only a month’s time, Fact AV had designed and installed a new system based on Ashly ne Series amplifiers. All of the sisters and nursing home residents noticed the new system’s improved intelligibility and clarity.

“Almost all of the sisters can hear way better than I can,” laughed Eric Johnson, owner of Fact AV Technologies. “When we were commissioning the original system, they complained of a high-pitched hum. I couldn’t hear it, and only one of the three guys on my crew could hear it… barely. But they were right. I tracked down the problem and removed the hum.” In addition, everyone who attends services at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery regularly calibrates their ears to acoustic music. The services are frequently supported by woodwind ensembles, acoustic guitar, piano, bell choir, an a cappella choir, and myriad guest musicians.

Johnson duplicated the original system’s processing and user control, with a few minor updates. Ten wired and six wireless microphones, and a CD player provide input to a Lectrosonics processor. An AMX user-control system provides customized control of input selection and output volume. None of the building’s twelve-inch coaxial loudspeakers were damaged by the lightning strike. In contrast, Johnson took the amplification in a new direction in the new system. An eight-channel Ashly ne8250 powers the main speakers for the sanctuary. A two-channel Ashly ne800 powers the stage monitors, and a two-channel Ashly ne800.70 powers the 70-volt systems on the building’s first and second floors.

“Ashly’s feature set per cost is unsurpassed,” said Johnson. “Ashly offers a range of configurations that are very useful to me as I design optimal systems in different scenarios. Ashly amplifiers, and the ne Series in particular, are lightweight and compact. The units are always reliable. I’ve almost never had service issues, but when I have, Ashly’s support staff turns the repairs around right away or sends advance replacements. Either way, they take care of me.”

He continued, “In addition, they sound great. As you might imagine, the monastery is very quiet, and the amps are perfectly silent. And their fidelity is excellent.” Despite all of the similarities between the old system and the new system, the sisters and the nursing home residents have noticed an obviously discernable increase in the system’s intelligibility and clarity. “The new Ashly amplifiers have played a huge role in that improvement,” concluded Johnson.
