Pro Audio Technology Appoints Two New Manufacturer Reps

Excellent margins, modular designs and a full line of cinema caliber audio products fuel Pro Audio Technology’s rapid growth.

Huntington Beach, CA – February 26, 2013 – Pro Audio Technology (PRO), the leader in professional-grade loudspeakers and DSP-programmable amplifier systems for residential properties, today announced the appointment of two new manufacturer’s representatives. Growing demand for discrete but powerful audio systems has made Pro Audio Technology (PRO) an appealing brand for dealers. To meet demand, PRO has announced the appointment of Lucas Sales and On Line Marketing as its exclusive representatives in two key territories.

“With no less than 23 large metropolitan areas covered between them, adding sales consultants in these territories is critical for continued growth,” said Larry Reagan, vice president of sales for Pro Audio technology. “With Lucas Sales based in Texas and On Line Marketing centered in Ohio, and each serving the surrounding states, PRO is poised to see strong growth and enhanced dealer support in these regions.“

Common to both firm’s line card is a major video projection and viewing screen line. In each case, the addition of Pro Audio Technology will help the firms solidify their offerings of complete reference A/V packages for high-performance theater and media room installations.

Mark Taylor, principal of On Line Marketing said, “We are excited about the addition of PRO products and the unique benefits they offer. PRO’s technology story perfectly complements the performance-based selling concept we promote to dealers, and will help our accounts attain higher sales and deliver a better audio experience.”

PRO’s multiple speaker series are voiced to a common performance standard and provide solutions that address a broad range of installation needs. By applying a single design philosophy across the entire range of products, installers are free to select models based on application, gaining greater flexibility when designing an audio system.

Sam Lucas, principal of The Charles Lucas Sales Company said, “Pro Audio Technology compliments our high end custom installation products for home theater. They offer great dynamics, high SPL and most important clear vocal intelligibility. We are delighted to offer the very best in home theater systems.”

A hallmark of PRO engineering technology, each system is field-configurable and employs the company’s proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) via its PMA amplifier product range. All crossover functions, high-resolution frequency response shaping, and time correction are achieved in DSP, eliminating restrictive passive filter networks from the signal path. In addition, the integrator is given a powerful suite of DSP controls to compensate for environmental influences, such as speaker placement behind viewing screens or stretch fabric walls, secondary boundary loading, and other factors. Different than a typical room correction system, the PMAs don’t change the frequency response of speakers to accommodate sitting positions, which can fundamentally alter the sound, but rather adjust output to compensate for room conditions, which lets the speakers perform as the designer intended.

Information on PRO’s new manufacturer’s representatives and their respective regions is below.

B.M.C. Audio Launches New DAC as First Entry In More Affordable PureLine Component Series

High-Quality PureDAC Combines Advanced Headphone Amp,
Elegant Styling, Affordability and Audiophile Performance

GESEKE, GERMANY, Feb. 2013 — Balanced Music Concept (B.M.C.) Audio, a developer and manufacturer of high-performance, high-value audiophile components, introduces the PureDAC Digital-to-Analog Converter, with a built-in headphone amplifier, at the recently completed Consumer Electronics Show in January.

Designed principally for Lifestyle and Design-conscious consumers, the PureDAC is the first entry in a new PureLine Series of components that will be more affordable than B.M.C.’s Reference-level models. PureLine models deliver an essential level of electronic purity. Their electronics are complex yet not complicated — or comprised — by unnecessary features. As a result, they fulfil their promise of high-end audio at affordable prices. Additional products in the PureSeries line will include the PurePhono Preamplifier, compatible with both moving magnet and moving coil type cartridges, and the PureMono Amplifier, with B.M.C.’s exclusive Current Injection technology.

The PureDAC delivers a DAC of the highest quality. It combines its DAC with a balanced, reference-level headphone amplifier, a balanced preamplifier, and B.M.C.’s exclusive Digital Intelligent Gain Management (DIGM), a volume and amplification control system that calibrates gain without dividing or downgrading the input signal.

The PureDAC’s headphone amplifier and preamp both have separate volume controls and employ B.M.C.’s exclusive Load Effect Free (LEF) technology. LEF handles a speaker’s current demand separately from the voltage demand, increasing the amp and preamp’s efficiency and the quality of their audio reproduction. The preamp is integrated with the DAC’s current-to-voltage converter, which converts and filters the DAC’s current, eliminating the need for an extra stage.

The PureDAC also boasts a high-resolution asynchronous USB interface, digital AES/EBU, Toslink and coaxial inputs, balanced analog outputs, RCA output jacks, and a special B.M.C. link for connecting directly to a B.M.C. amplifier. Its balanced output is ideally compatible with amplifiers featuring B.M.C.’s exclusive Current Injection (CI) technology, which enhances signal purity and the musical presence of the PureDAC’s audio reproduction.

The PureDAC Digital-to-Analog Converter will be available from authorized B.M.C. dealers at the end of the First Quarter at a price anticipated below $1,600 (U.S. MSRP). It can be seen with B.M.C.’s other outstanding products at the Venetian Tower, Room 30-124, during CES.

B.M.C. Audio Introduces New Generation of Power Amplifiers

The AMP M2 Delivers High-End Reproduction that’s Natural,
Neutral and Transparent Plus a Wealth of Exclusive Features

GESEKE, GERMANY, Feb. 2013 — Balanced Music Concept (B.M.C.) Audio, a developer and manufacturer of high-performance, high-value audiophile components, introduces the AMP M2 Mono Power Amplifier at the recently completed International Consumer Electronics Show.

The AMP M2 delivers exceptional musical reproduction consistently, purely and transparently. Listeners experience only unbridled power and music’s finest details, without any intrusion of the amplifier itself. Perfectly balanced, the AMP M2 runs cooler than traditional Class A designs, and silently. Its musical dynamics remain constant for every volume level, and without compression. It also exhibits no signal path feedback on the theory that it’s better to avoid distortion from the start than to try correcting for it later.

The AMP M2 possesses a surprisingly powerful dynamic vitality for its relatively compact size, an 88-pound weight that only begins to suggest its exceptional build quality, an elegant design, and three of B.M.C.’s exclusive advances, and a very affordable price given its superb performance and broad use of high-quality materials. The channel separation produced by two separate AMP M2s cannot be surpassed.

B.M.C.’s exclusive innovations include its Load Effect Free (LEF) technology, Digital Intelligent Gain Management (DIGM), and Current Injection (CI) technology. They ensure listeners only experience the amplifier’s power and music’s finest details.

The M2 delivers 200 watts into 8 Ohms, and 380 watts into 4 Ohms with a frequency response of 1Hz – 200kHz (at 1W). A fully regulated power supply with a massive 2-kW toroidal transformer and balanced current capacitors contribute background silence and rock-solid stability.

LEF technology raises speaker output, the quality of the AMP M2’s audio reproduction, and the amplifier’s efficiency. It achieves these by handling speakers’ current demand separately from the voltage demand, relieving the Class-A transistor of all duties other than providing perfect signal reproduction.

DIGM technology is a volume and amplification control that lets listeners adjust left/right output balances in 1-decibel increments by setting the M2’s gain on B.M.C.’s DAC 1 Digital-to-Analog Converter. The DAC 1 optically transmits the value to the M2. This avoids unnecessary input-signal attenuation and excessive amplification, contributing to a more natural musical quality. As a result, DIGM eliminates the need for a preamp circuit, avoids excessive gain, and allows direct connection to a DAC. Additional benefits include a very short signal path, low noise, and the ability to reduce noise further by reducing volume.

CI technology further increases signal purity and the immediacy of the M2’s musical reproduction. It does this by processing a signal source’s current until it attains the desired loudspeaker output voltage, replacing, as a result, any gain stage by an original signal. Combined, B.M.C.’s LEF, DIGM and CI technologies draw listeners into a new world of tonal experience.

The AMP M2 exhibits the modular construction and massive build quality typical of B.M.C. components, with a sturdy aluminum chassis for housing and the finest components available for the electronics. Large Power and Volume buttons and an easily read Power Meter enhance the front panel.

On the rear panel, balanced XLR and XLR-CI inputs, unbalanced RCA inputs, one pair of speaker outputs with gold-plated binding posts, and an AC power connection help the AMP M2 take advantage of its many technologies.

The AMP M2 Mono Power Amplifier is available now from authorized B.M.C. Audio dealers at a suggested price of $7,990 (U.S. MSRP).

Professional Wireless Systems RF Coordination Puts Signal Interference Out of Bounds at 2013 NBA All-Star Game

HOUSTON, FEBRUARY 26, 2013—Professional Wireless Systems (PWS), a Masque Sound Company, and experts in supplying and supporting wireless systems for live, broadcast events and installations, provided frequency coordination for all wireless microphones, intercoms, in-ear monitors, IFB systems and player mics for the 2013 NBA All-Star Game at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. This marks the seventh year PWS provided RF support for the NBA All-Star Game weekend. In addition to the game itself, PWS also handled frequency coordination for the NBA’s Jam Session at the George R. Brown Convention Center, as well as all other official events, including the Slam Dunk Contest and Three-Point Shootout.

With an event like the NBA All-Star Game, production staff must carefully coordinate all wireless technologies to ensure their frequencies do not interfere with one another. To this end, PWS began strategizing its frequency coordination for the NBA All-Star Game weeks before the actual game. “The NBA is extremely proactive in regards to RF communications and we work closely with them leading up to the All-Star weekend so we are well-prepared going in,” says Brooks Schroeder of PWS. “Once we actually got on site, we were able to move users around the spectrum as needed to ensure things operated smoothly without interruption.”

The PWS team was responsible for managing close to 500 frequencies at the Toyota Center in Houston, a large television market with a heavily saturated spectrum. Facing this reduced amount of spectrum space, PWS took extra care to stay on top of all users to ensure they were working within the guidelines.

For the All-Star Game, the NBA provided an in-house 2.4GHZ Wi-Fi system. PWS was tasked with coordinating and managing the system—tracking down uncoordinated and rogue devices to help maintain good signal and data flow. Once located and identified, the individuals or clients who were out of compliance were asked to shut down or move to an acceptable Wi-Fi channel.

In addition to frequency coordination, PWS collaborated with Quantum Q5X to manage the player microphones for the All-Star Game. Quantum Q5X provided its QT-5000 Microphone System, which users can control remotely and wirelessly. Sewn into the jerseys of eight of the players, the rechargeable, flexible and customized QT-5000 transmitters allowed game broadcasters to build packages that could be rolled into the game, and provided audio for NBA Films productions to use for archival purposes and any future shows. The rubberized, flexible, water-and-sweat-resistant QT-5000 body pack will not injure the player even if he falls on it or takes a direct hit. John Garrido from PWS and Quantum Q5X’s Mark Donkers managed the system together.

The antenna system utilized for the player mics was the PWS Domed Helical which is a new standard in wireless antenna performance and physical presence. The antenna combines the highly successful circular polarization configuration pioneered by the original PWS Helical, but with the unit sealed within a unique new compact “domed” design. This provides robust, uncompromised multichannel wireless microphone, in-ear and intercom wireless connectivity. Constructed from rugged polycarbonate, PWS’s Domed Helical is designed to hold up to considerable road-related abuse.

“The NBA All-Star Game and associated events are always challenging for us, but our team has extensive experience in coordinating large events and does a fantastic job,” adds Jim Van Winkle, general manager of PWS. “We look forward to working on this event each year.”

Christie MicroTiles Create Beautiful Motion-Responsive Video Wall at San Francisco Public Utilities Commission

Digital Art Wall Panorama Controlled With Custom Content Management Program Developed By Obscura Digital

Making an impact in San Francisco, one of the world’s most beautiful and culturally diverse cities, isn’t easy but Christie® and Obscura Digital have done just that with a striking panoramic display of 160 Christie® MicroTiles® installed in the lobby of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) headquarters. The SFPUC Digital Arts Wall is a seamless curved digital canvas that provides an interactive educational experience for the public and an infrastructure for new content to be continually updated. Four feet tall and 58 feet long with a native resolution of 62 million pixels, the 4-units tall by 40-units long Christie MicroTiles video wall displays high‐resolution data and graphic visualizations – including the unfolding history of the SFPUC, an interactive platform that includes real-time news and ambient music.

Christie Microtiles in Lobby of San Francisco Power Utilities Commission

Christie and Obscura Digital Create Customized Solution
“We needed to create something that would be beautiful and stand up over time in terms of resolution and technology, and also create something that could be updated easily by the SFPUC,” said Nathan Houchin, technical director, Obscura Digital. “So we created a custom content management program for them where they can upload new information very effectively and efficiently via their communications department.”

“Our goal was an interactive educational experience that could excite both young and old alike. We wanted a flexible and innovative platform that could connect people to the past and future story of our water, power and sewer systems,” said Tyrone Jue, director of communications, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. “We looked at several different display technologies for this project. We eventually settled on Christie MicroTiles because of the minimal seams left between each tile, ease of installation with our curved wall, and excellent image contrast and brightness.”

For the MicroTiles curved wall, Obscura Digital designed and engineered four customized interactive experiences with motion responsive visuals and sound effects including: ‘Snowfall to Outfall,’ ‘Media Stream,’ ‘Dashboard,’ and ‘Interactive Art Mode.’ Each presentation provides an educational and entertaining platform for SFPUC employees and visitors to learn more about the history, art, current issues and goals of the SFPUC.

“We worked with rp Visual Solutions and they helped us design and build a superstructure pedestal that the Christie MicroTiles sit on. Due to the sequence of construction, we were required to install the pedestal three months before the MicroTiles installation and it got framed around the MicroTiles,” added Houchin. “Everything was very, very tight so checking tolerances and double-checking that everything was on spec was critical. With the ultramodern look and feel of the wall, there was no room for error.”

Illustrating the importance of the entire water system, and the PUC’s place within it, is a diorama created by a local artist depicting the key elements of the city’s water system. Through an agreement with the San Francisco Arts Commission, artwork done by local artists is displayed on a revolving basis, turning the display wall into a constantly changing digital canvas.

“The city of San Francisco is lucky to have such clean and healthy drinking water,” added Houchin, “The SFPUC does a good job of being stewards of this vital system that’s so important to the vitality of the Bay Area and the panorama shows all the types of infrastructure that are necessary to make this sort of water system work. Water doesn’t come from a tap first; this (MicroTiles) display helps people make that connection.”

Houchin’s team was given a strict energy budget they couldn’t exceed for the display wall and its custom playback system.

“We did look at other display technologies – projection and other modular displays – but we calculated that if we ran the Christie MicroTiles wall for a certain amount during the day, we could stay within the energy budget.”

Christie MicroTiles bright, color-rich and flawless images are the perfect digital technology for creating impressive displays in lobbies, briefing centers and at corporate events. Christie MicroTiles are more durable, reliable and serviceable than traditional display technologies and with their impressively small carbon footprint, Christie MicroTiles are an ideal choice for LEED projects, and for any building where environmental standards must be met.

“We chose Christie MicroTiles because we didn’t want to sacrifice resolution or be concerned about off-axis viewing and serviceability. An additional benefit of using MicroTiles to help achieve LEED Platinum certification is that the product has no consumables,” said Houchin. “Everything can be recycled and we wanted something that produced the least amount of waste possible. We can sell the Christie MicroTiles’ sustainability to our clients. This display is a really neat crossroads of institutional and public space and how we can use technology to entertain and educate. It’s a showcase piece for us and we really worked hard to make it shine and make it something Obscura and the city of San Francisco is proud of.”

“Our digital arts wall is an artistic and technological masterpiece fitting of the nation’s greenest office building. It serves as a major focal point for the entire building and always leaves our visitors amazed,” concluded Jue. “They say a picture is worth a 1000 words. This digital video wall is worth at least 10,000 words on a bad day.”
