“At Snell, we see how the pressures of TV Everywhere and the ongoing evolution of consumer electronics are driving transformation of the broadcast business, and we understand the economic and technical impact of this shift on our customers,” said Martin. “As our customers respond to these challenges and embrace new technologies and workflows models, we work right alongside them, ensuring they have the right media management and playout solutions that maximize revenue opportunities and operational efficiencies. Our router, switcher, modular, and conversion product lines are used across the United States and around the world in broadcast operations of all sizes, and we continue to deliver future-proof solutions that support broadcasters’ changing operations.”

He earned his bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin and his MBA from the University of Cambridge.

“Paul is an ideal choice to succeed Jonathan Goldstein,” said Snell CEO Simon Derry. “Under Jonathan’s leadership we experienced strong sales growth in the Americas and earned high marks for customer service. Paul brings that same focus on customer service, along with a proven track record of organizational development, which will help us continue to build our operation in North America. Broadcasters in the United States and Canada are industry leaders, and we are proud to be a trusted partner for so many customers in these markets. We take our responsibility to these customers very seriously, and with Paul’s guidance, we will continue working hard to make sure that we provide the right technology and the right customer support at the right time.”

Digital Artist Benjamin Von Wong Gets Creative with FOR-A’s VFC-7000 Variable Frame Rate Camera

Toronto, Canada – FOR-A Corporation of America, a leading manufacturer of video and audio systems for the broadcast and professional video industries, announces that Montreal-based photographer and visual engineer Benjamin Von Wong recently used its VFC-7000 HD Variable Frame Rate Camera for two artistic video projects.

When he first laid eyes on the lightweight, compact VFC-7000 camera at a Toronto tradeshow last summer, Von Wong was impressed with the camera’s slow motion capabilities. He capitalized on the camera’s ability to capture high-speed HD recordings when he later used it to shoot a creative video that focused on his long hair. Von Wong subjected himself to water, eggs, and flour being thrown at his head during a cold night, along with some fire thrown into the mix – all in the name of exciting slow motion footage. He paired FOR-A’s VFC-7000 with a LensBaby Composer lens for the video shoot.

“The VFC-7000’s functionality was fantastic,” said Benjamin. “Other than the FOR-A solution, we didn’t use any other extremely high-end equipment for the shoot. We also were dealing with a low-light situation. My team and I even used car lights for lighting part of the video. Even with these challenging circumstances, the camera performed well and exhibited a great deal of sensitivity.”

The award-winning VFC-7000 is an all-in-one self-contained camera that offers high-speed play out and recording in full frame HD at up to 700 frames per second. The unit comes complete with a camera head, main body, an F lens mount and recording component. With its high-sensitivity CMOS color sensor, the VFC-7000 features an electronic high-speed shutter that can operate as fast as 1/200,000 second for filming fast moving events and subjects without blur.

In addition to shooting The secret behind Von Wong’s epic hair, Benjamin also used the VFC-7000 to shoot a medieval pumpkin destruction video, which he entered into a Halloween filmmaking competition. You can read more on the pumpkin project shoot and view the video here: http://www.vonwong.com/blog/epic-pumpkin-destruction-700fps/

Benjamin explains, “This was my first time using a camera system with such high-speed capabilities, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from the VFC-7000. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to operate the camera, which allowed me more time to focus on other elements of the project. I came away from these video projects confident that FOR-A’s VFC-7000 is a high-quality camera that offers anyone the chance to shoot rich action video in uncompressed HD.”

VMP New Low-Profile DVR-LB3 DVR Lockbox Now Shipping; Featured at ISC West

STEVENSVILLE, Md., March 8, 2013 — Video Mount Products (videomount.com), a leading provider of mounting solutions for the security, commercial, CI, residential, and pro audio/video markets, is proud to announce that it will feature the new DVR-LB3 DVR Lockbox at 2013 ISC West, held in Las Vegas, Nev. from April 10-12 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, booth 1042. Now shipping, the low-profile DVR-LB3 has an MSRP of $236.95.

“The DVR-LB3 is the next in our series of DVR lockboxes, following our popular DVR-LB1 and DVR-LB2 lockboxes,” explained Keith Fulmer, president of Video Mount Products. “The DVR-LB3 features all the security benefits of the others in the series, but its low-profile makes it perfect for today’s smaller DVR’s and NVR’s and installations with limited space restrictions.”

VMP has included a single fan, as well as a mounting location for a second fan should additional thermal management be required. Multiple vents with vent blockers for active or passive thermal management have also been incorporated.

Additional features of the VMP DVR-LB3 lockbox include:
• Interior dimensions: 17.2in W x 21in D x 5in H
• Rack mountable on two or four posts with a 3 RU overall height
• Interlocking lift-off lid
• Key-locked hinged front door
• Black static resistant powder coat finish

According to Fulmer, high-end electronics have become a staple in today’s security, CI, residential, and commercial marketplaces. As these expensive technologies and equipment, including DVRs, find homes in more and more commercial and professional settings, additional security measures need to be taken to insure these electronics are not harmed or stolen.

“Our DVR-LB3 is the next generation DVR lockbox, built upon the principle of creating peace of mind for those who require DVRs be installed in settings that may be prone to theft or vandalism, but at the same time allowing for the flexibility of a smaller housing solution,” Fulmer concluded.

Tributaries® Revamps HDMI® Cable Line

Orlando, FL—March 2013—Tributaries®, the acknowledged leader in value-high-end connectivity for home and professional A/V systems and custom installations revamps its HEC line of HDMI cables with improved cable constructions to provide high-performance high-speed HDMI. New additions to the line include the IHEC cable for long distance runs and HX102, patent pending, dongle-style extender, available separately or together as part of the IHEC-X kit.

Tributaries new IHEC HDMI Long Run Cable and HX102 Patent-pending Dongle-style Extender

All HEC HDMI cables benefit from new conductors, connector shielding, stronger connectors, and thicker gold plating on the contacts, while the Series 6, 8 and new IHEC receive the added advantage of Full Body Armor™, a protective covering for the connector circuit.

Remaining from the previous design are the wildly popular shorter connectors, making tight space placements easier as well as the BOSS elements (raised bumps on the connector) which help the connector fit tight into its receptacle, and help maintain equal pressure in the receptacle to keep the connector from shifting around. The lack of lateral movement keeps the Hot Plug Detect from being disconnected.

Features of the new IHEC (MSRP: $400 – $1,250)
• Certified to support Ethernet, 3D, 4K(24Hz) and ARC
• All conductors are solid 24AWG cable ensure accurate long length signal transfer
• 2.5% silver-plated HC-OFC wire provides superior digital performance
• UL® CL2 jackets for in wall use
• 15 microns gold-plating on contacts
• Under zinc die-cast connectors the circuit is protected by Full Body Armor™ and heavy copper foil shielding

Features of the new IHEC-X Kit (MSRP:$735 – $1,385)
• Kit contains long length IHEC and HX102 cable extender
• Extends 12-bit/color 1080p up to 98 feet using 24AWG HDMI cable
• Extends 8-bit/color 1080i up to 130 feet using 24AWG HDMI cable
• Unit is connected after long run
• Includes 5 VDC/1A USB power supply with USB/AC power cable

“Reliable HMDI over long distances continues to challenge installers and Tributaries is committed to providing our dealers with the viable solution as the technology evolves,” said Joe Perfito, President of Tributaries. “We determined that a multi-level cable approach was no longer feasible, therefore we designed one cable, the IHEC, to go the distance. By doing so, we had to increase the gauge size but kept the electronics separate. The HX102 allows us to add electronics at the end of the long run between the cable and TV. The a major benefit of this design is in the case of an electronics failure, it’s an easy swap to replace without having to pull the long run of cable from the wall.”

Robert Juliat Lucy Followspots Join San Diego State University’s Inventory at School of Theatre, TV & Film

San Diego State University’s School of Theatre, TV & Film has acquired three Robert Juliat Lucy followspots for the Don Powell Theatre on campus. The fixtures were purchased from Acey Decy Lighting in San Fernando, California.

An intimate venue with a relatively large stage, the Don Powell Theatre will deploy the new followspots on the last production of the school’s 2012-2013 season, the Stephen Sondheim musical “A Little Night Music,” which opens in April. SDSU has a reputation for excellence in theatre arts offering undergraduate and graduate degrees.

“We just installed three Lucy followspots with heavy duty yokes flipping the yokes to the top and hanging the spots in our front of house beam position where they now fit perfectly,” says Peter Nordyke, with SDSU’s School of Theatre, TV & Film. “They are not that much bigger than a traditional zoom ERS, and with the angle adjustments on the sides of the yokes I was able to position them so I could cover the whole stage and not hit the iris knob.”

Lucy is a 1200W HMI followspot whose light output out-performs Xenon followspots of higher wattage. Its boasts the roster of ergonomic features which makes Robert Juliat fixtures the followspots of choice for theatre environments where high output, instant restrike and compact dimensions are real advantages. Lucy also offers silent magnetic PSU and optional DMX dimming control for perfect synch of fades and blackouts.

According to Nordyke, lighting design faculty member Craig Wolf has always liked running spots through the lighting board to achieve dimming. “Due to that factor, I’ve always had to use incandescent followspots that I rewired to run the lamp through a dimmer,” he explains. “But with Lucy’s DMX dimming module, now I will be able to do the same thing with a much better and brighter followspot.”

About Robert Juliat

Robert Juliat is a three-generation, independent family-run company dedicated to the manufacturing of professional stage lighting products. Robert Juliat lights are used by customers who include Cirque du Soleil, Celine Dion, New York’s Lincoln Center, LA’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Bruce Springsteen, Disney Theme Parks, Carnegie Hall, The San Francisco Opera and Ballet, The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Comedie Francaise, The Sydney Opera House, plus theatres, schools and public venues around the world.

R&D, production and the company headquarters are based in the village of Fresnoy-en-Thelle, 50 km north of Paris. Robert Juliat USA is located in Wallingford, Connecticut. For more information visit www.robertjuliat.com.

There’s a Spyder inside a major energy infrastucture provider’s corporate headquarters, and it’s energizing the executive floor. Vista Systems’ Spyder X20 8×8 video processor enables execs and their guests to see the company’s latest projects and achievements on a new 2×5 videowall.

“The videowall is run by corporate communications and is part of an overall remodeling of the executive floor with new conference rooms,” says David Weibel, of Ford AV, which designs, integrates , services and rents professional sound, video and lighting systems from its offices located in Tulsa, OK. “The videowall is composed of 55-inch NEC flat-panel LEDs. Its sources include several PCs, a DVD and BluRay player and cable television.”

Weibel says that Ford AV has used Spyders in several previous installations. “We’re familiar with their reliability and robustness. You can do anything you want with them.”

Spyder is working “beautifuly” in this application, he reports. “We have had a lot of positive comments from the customer about how good the videowall looks. They’re very impressed with all the capabilities of the Spyder. Seeing what it’s capable of doing has really opened up their eyes to all the possibilities.”
