Listen Technologies Supports the 2013 Tumbleweeds Film Festival

The Tumbleweeds Film Festival, an event hosted by the Utah Film Center, will use donated Listen Technologies equipment to provide audio description (AD) services to children who can’t yet read subtitles.

Listen Technologies is pleased to support the third annual Tumbleweeds Film Festival to be held March 15-17 at Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center (138 W. Broadway, SLC, UT). This unique festival, hosted by the Utah Film Center, presents feature-length and short films from around the world for children ages 4-14. Listen Technologies will be donating equipment to support audio description (AD) services throughout the festival.

With 11 feature films from seven countries, including Latvia/Estonia, Germany and Ireland these films will be screened in their original language with English subtitles as needed. The youngest viewers can opt to listen to the subtitles which will be read aloud and distributed using Listen Technologies equipment. These AD services, traditionally used to assist blind and visually impaired consumers of visual media, will ensure that everyone attending the festival can enjoy all of the events.

“This is a unique application for our assistive listening products, but one that makes great sense for what the Utah Film Center serves to achieve with the festival,” noted Steve Woolley, Product Marketing Manager at Listen Technologies. “We’re pleased to support Tumbleweeds in this way and be a part of ensuring that all who attend can have an enriching experience.”

Bob Skye Joins WSDG As West Coast Rep/Project Engineer

New Role For Electro/Acoustics Innovator / Recording Engineer

As WSDG’s west coast rep and project engineer, Skye will shoulder a host of responsibilities ranging from new client development and overall business management to hands-on project design and construction supervision.

More than a House of Worship; Revolution Church creates an inspiring home for growing congregation

Revolution Church had a dream: to create a permanent home for a rapidly expanding fellowship that would, step by step, adapt to most effectively spread the gospel. However, the founding members were concerned that moving directly into a massive space might compromise the intimacy and focus that had been built over years of worship in small, improvised locations. With this in mind, the church created and implemented a staged growth plan that delivers immediate impact through an immersive yet budget-conscious audio and video experience. Additionally, Revolution Church can expand their current capabilities to serve future members without losing their cherished community feel.



As the decision to design and inhabit a permanent worship location was a massive leap of faith, Revolution Church relied on the renowned insight of both Cornerstone Media and New Ground consulting groups. Once the key audio and video components were tentatively specified, key team members from the church attended WFX, the annual worship facilities expo, to see live product demonstrations and meet some of the manufacturers. Chad Elliot, executive pastor for Revolution Church, mentioned “how impressed we all were with Digital Projection International’s relationship-oriented approach,” at that particular meeting. After WFX, final decisions were made on the preferred AV components.



Currently, the main sanctuary contains 750 seats, and features a stage and large Da-lite screen that is illuminated by Digital Projection International (DPI)’s 8,000 lumen E-Vision 1080p 8000 projector. Elliot explained, “The main sanctuary is quite wide, and we wanted to bring the congregation’s attention to a central location. Thus the single large impact screen above the stage.” With overall project cost being a major factor, the E-Vision 8000 fulfilled both the budget and performance requirements. When it’s time to activate their next stage of expansion, Revolution will finish a balcony that will add 400 seats to the venue. At that time, a larger central screen will serve as a beacon above the stage, while flanking screens on the left and right will serve those in the balcony.



Brian Damerow, media director for Revolution Church, commented, “In our temporary space we used lower-end projectors with limited brightness and impact. We knew what sort of experience we wanted to deliver on Sundays, but had few options until we moved.” Today, the church uses a BlackMagic switcher to route live video, custom-created messaging, congregation announcements and thematically-geared imagery throughout the facility. So that every attendee has an unhindered sight line, the E-Vision 1080p 8000 delivers virtually latency-free IMAG to the central screen above the stage.

After only three weeks in the new space, Revolution Church is already seeing a huge return on their expansion. “Previously,” said Elliot, “we would serve less than 1,100 members on a given Sunday. Now, there’s a huge buzz in the community regarding what we’re doing, and it’s led to a surge in membership.” In fact, the new space has hosted over 1,700 people every Sunday for the last three weeks. To ensure that everyone who wants to attend will have ample opportunity, the church is moving from two Sunday services to three as of their grand opening on March 3, 2013.

With so much at stake in this ambitious step forward, Revolution Church was careful to select only manufacturer partners that seemed to take their project to heart. “We instantly felt understood by the DPI team, and the personal connection put us at ease,” remarked Damerow. “True to form, we had to switch a lens on the E-Vision at the time of installation, and we had the new lens almost immediately. DPI’s attention to such a small detail proved to us that they care about our project as much as we do.”

NASHVILLE: Rescheduled for “Audio Week” in Nashville, the Nashville Recording Workshop + Expo will take place May 14th and 15th, at the Rocketown Event Center. “Attendees and exhibitors have been enthusiastic about the new timing for NRW+E 2013,” comments event chair Jim Kaiser, now to immediately precede the AudioMasters Benefit Golf Tournament. “Many already participate in the AudioMasters, and had participated in Mix Nashville, which previously occupied the time slot. Tying AES Nashville’s events together in the same week will maximize these visitors’ time in town. We look forward to working with all of our presenters, exhibitors and sponsors, to make this the best-ever event in the Nashville Recording Workshop series.”

Presented by the AES Nashville Section in conjunction with the AES and designed to share the expertise of audio pros with home studio owners, musicians, songwriters, producers and engineers. MLA Compact Training For Max Production In Hong Kong

Hong Kong-based Max Production Ltd, one of the first adopters of Martin Audio’s MLA and MLA Compact systems in the Far East, recently underwent full technical training.

Following the recent purchase of an MLA Compact 24, both Martin Audio Regional Application Support Engineer Chris Pyne and Technical Training Manager Martyn (Ferrit) Rowe arrived at Max Production’s HQ in Sha Tin district to carry out the intensive three day training course afforded all Martin Audio MLA network partners.

The course was conducted by Ferrit and attended by ten of Max Production’s senior and junior staff as well as technicians and an interpreter from Budee, the MLA territorial distributor.

Chris Pyne, who conducted the introduction and initiation course, explained the content of the workshop. “The formal class room audio theory and system functions plus software and venue design studies take place over two days. The third day is dedicated to system rigging and safety, with system optimizations, listening tests and problem solving. We also do a sub bass array and system design class.”

He confirms that he will be returning in March to support Max Production with a major concert at the Asia World Arena utilizing the company’s entire MLA and MLA Compact inventory.

Summing up, Pine adds, “It was an enjoyable experience, with the Max management clearly pleased and excited by owning the first MLA system in Hong Kong. South-east Asia is proving a very strong growth area for both MLA and MLA Compact.”

Introducing Matrox Avio F125 High Performance Dual Video KVM Extenders Featuring USB 2.0 Support

KVM extension solution delivers uncompressed, zero-latency transmission up to 4 km on a single fiber optic cable

Matrox Graphics Inc. today announced Matrox Avio F125, a fiber-optic KVM extender which separates dual HD video, keyboard, mouse, stereo analog audio and USB 2.0 devices from a workstation. Avio F125 features flexible connectivity options. Its transmitter/receiver pair extends two single-link DVI (2x1920x1200) or one dual-link DVI (2560×1600 or 4096×2160) video, and multiple high-speed USB 2.0 compliant devices from the host computer by up to 400 m (1312 ft) over multimode cable and 4 km (2.5 mi) over single-mode cable. Avio F125 stands out for its ability to transmit all signals with zero compression and zero latency on a single duplex LC-LC fiber-optic cable. Designed for high-performance environments, Avio F125 delivers fluid graphics and video playback making it ideal for broadcast, post production, Pro A/V, industrial process control, oil and gas, 3D design and visualization, and military environments.

RackLink™ System Now Compliant with InfoComm Energy Management Standard


Fairfield, NJ–– With its latest firmware update, all models in Middle Atlantic Products’ suite of RackLink™ Power Management products now fully support InfoComm’s recently published Energy Management Standard. RackLink products provide integrators and facility managers with the necessary features and functionality to implement the standard. These include the monitoring and logging of power consumption, room occupancy and outlet state, as well as individual control of connected devices.

The standard, which provides a guideline for efficient energy management of AV systems through the control, monitoring, and conservation of electric power, was published in June of last year. RackLink models are currently the industry’s only available option to meet certain requirements of the standard such as power factor monitoring and providing a fine degree of resolution in their measurement accuracy.

Audiovisual control system solutions company Control Concepts partnered with Middle Atlantic to develop the RackLink system’s critical open-architecture communication with control systems. Control Concepts President Steve Greenblatt also served as a member of the InfoComm Energy Management Standard Task Group. He notes, “Middle Atlantic has shown a commitment to the InfoComm Energy Management standard from the onset of RackLinkTM product development ensuring that the design and control capabilities meet all the requirements in addition to including a host of added features. Middle Atlantic went as far as to upgrade firmware, software, and control modules once the standard was released to address specific nuances added prior to finalization.”

“RackLink was designed to enable the best possible practices in ensuring power-efficient AV systems,” said Bob Schluter, Middle Atlantic Founder and fellow member of the InfoComm Energy Management Standard Task Group. He also noted the ease with which the RackLink system complies with the standard: “All the required measurements are consolidated in one box, so there’s no need to mix data from separate places. RackLink systems also output that data in a useable format that requires no manipulation.”
