AES E-Library Offers 14,000+ Fully Searchable PDF Files

Institutional And Individual Subscription Programs Now Available

NEW YORK: Audio Engineering Society Executive Director Bob Moses has announced new subscription formats to the AES E-Library. With over 14,000 fully searchable PDF files, the collection represents one of the world’s most comprehensive sources of definitive professional audio information. Documenting the progression of audio research and development from 1953 to the present day, the E-Library includes every paper published at each of the 133 AES Conventions and 49 international conferences, plus all papers published in the AES Journal. Engineering Briefs (eBriefs) recently introduced at conventions may also be accessed in the E-Library.

“The depth, range and authoritative nature of the professional audio subject matter amassed by the AES E-Library is unparalleled,” Moses says. “It provides a rich history of the evolution of audio technology, and carries all of the ideas, dialogue, and best practices forward from one generation to the next. This is really the crown jewel of the AES. It encompasses topics ranging from equipment design, to surround sound development, acoustic measurement, and hearing loss and protection.”

Additionally, the AES now offers an Open Access (OA) publishing option to its authors. OA papers in the E-Library are freely downloadable by anyone, including non-AES members and non-E-Library subscribers. The first OA offering is by Alex Case, “Recording Electric Guitar-The Science and the Myth.”

AES E-Library Subscriptions are available in two formats:

* Individual Subscriptions are $145 per year for AES members and $255 per year for non-members. This subscription provides downloads of any document in the E-Library at no additional cost.

* Institutional E-Library Subscriptions to universities, companies, and libraries are $1800 per year. This subscription provides all institution members with free downloads of any document in the E-Library.

* Individuals may download specific papers without an E-Library subscription, at a cost of $5 per paper for AES members and $20 per paper for non-members.

“AES Journal and Convention Program contributors are among the industry’s finest practitioners and scientific minds. Educators, students, researchers, product designers, manufacturers and historians may now track virtually every meaningful technological development introduced by our industry over the past 60+ years. They will discover extensive research and detailed findings on many fascinating subjects,” Moses concludes.

PURESOUND ENLISTS RF SPOTLIGHT ANTENNA TO FIGHT INTERFERENCE

HOUSTON, TEXAS – MARCH 2013: On any given Sunday, the only thing packed tighter than a Houston megachurch’s pews is the radio frequency spectrum surrounding them. Today’s worship services are high-tech and high stakes – with pastors, musicians, and support staff relying on an increasing number of wireless audio devices to ensure each service goes smoothly for thousands of the faithful – and a potential nightmare for sound professionals responsible for delivering crystal-clear wireless audio.

No one knows this better than Wes Matthew, owner of Houston’s Puresound, a large provider of church audio/visual installations, rentals and sales. “Churches are going wireless with everything now,” said Wes. “Wireless nursery pagers, walkies, in-ears, instruments, hearing assistance, parking lot aids, security, and, of course, microphones.”

Even thirty miles outside the city, Wes discovered his RF scans at the church were consistently full. “I could never find an open frequency,” he remembered. “So I ended up just picking the least crowded channel and hoped for the best.”

For his installation, each room had seven lavaliers and a handheld wireless microphone fed to Sennheiser ew 100 G3 receivers with basic whip antennas. “After extensive troubleshooting, no matter what we did, we were still getting signal dropouts and hit with interference,” Wes said. “We dropped the RF Spotlight on the stage, and the mics have been solid. I haven’t gotten a call in the six months since the installation.” Chris Regan of RF Venue commented, “More and more devices are competing for less and less spectrum, so we designed the RF Spotlight to deliver spectrum efficiency to any brand of wireless system. We’re happy to be working with Wes and his clients to enable reliable performance under the toughest RF conditions.”

The RF Spotlight is designed to be placed on the floor or under a stage to optimize reception for nearby wireless microphones or IEMs, but minimize reception of unwanted devices outside of its local field. In churches, hotels and convention centers where multiple wireless systems operate simultaneously, the RF Spotlight enables wireless operators to increase the number of open frequencies available, lower transmitter power for longer battery life, and dramatically improve signal-to-noise ratio at the receiver.

ABOUT RF VENUE RF Venue manufactures wireless audio equipment including remote antennas, RF distribution equipment, and cable assemblies. The company’s primary antenna products include the interference mitigating RF Spotlight, the lightweight foldable helical antenna CP Beam, and the polarization diversity antenna dubbed Diversity Fin. ABOUT PURESOUND Puresound provides high-quality audio/visual installation, rentals, and sales to the Houston, Texas area and beyond. The company provides turnkey services for an extensive list of worship, theater, and commercial clients. The company specializes in digital audio system design, video projection and distribution, as well as stage theatrical lighting and control trussing. GC Pro Goes Ivy League at Princeton

— GC Pro’s access to a wide range of products and its efficient Affiliate Program for AV systems integration offers the Cloister Inn clubhouse everything they need —

Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users, was recently contacted for a PA upgrade to a clubhouse on the Princeton University’s Fraternity Row. GC Pro was able to supply a wide range of products and systems, as well as providing a complete turnkey proposition for the club with design assistance and systems installation by Koko Brothers Entertainment, based in the Baltimore area, a member of GC Pro’s innovative Affiliate Program.

The products installed for the Cloister Inn clubhouse at the famed Ivy League school include a B-52 MATRIX 2000 ACTIVE 1200-watt PA system, QSC AD-S82H eight-inch two-way and AD-S52W 5.25-inch speaker enclosures, a Crown XTi 2002 power amplifier, a dbx® 1261 10X6 ZonePRO® multi-zone processor with a dbx ZC9 and ZC1 wall-mount volume controls, and a Shure PGX24/SM58-H6 UHF handheld wireless microphone system.

“The club had some specific goals they wanted to accomplish,” recalls Angelo Kokkinakos, Vice President of Koko Brothers Entertainment, such as setting up a DJ position in a main room inside the clubhouse and extending the audio to an exterior deck. But they also wanted to stay within a budget. Kokkinakos says that GC Pro was able to source the niche B-52 PA system, which he describes as both cost effective and rugged, both critical characteristics for any college facility. The dbx ZonePRO offers the ability to keep the volume in check in different zones, important for avoiding noise complaints.

“GC Pro’s understanding of a wide range of equipment and their ability to source it make it the best resource there is for AV systems integration,” says Kokkinakos. “We never worry about availability of products, and we know that the equipment we need to do the job will always be there when we need it.”

Kramer Introduces the VS−808TP 8X8 Twisted Pair Matrix Switcher

Kramer Electronics is pleased to introduce the high−performance VS−808TP 8X8 Twisted Pair Matrix Switcher for analog twisted pair signals.

The VS−808TP features eight inputs and eight outputs for remote connection with compatible TP transmitters and receivers. The switcher is designed to work with the auto−adjusting TP−133/TP−134 transmitter/receiver pair. An additional, switchable VGA, stereo audio and RS−232 local input (built−in transmitter) and output (built−in receiver) allows direct connection of the signals (analog video up to WUXGA, audio and RS−232) with these compatible units. The VS−808TP also includes audio−follow−video or breakaway switching for audio signals and 15 user−programmable presets for quick−change configurations.

The VS−808TP is designed especially for presentation and multimedia installations where a high level of control possibilities are required from extended distances.
