Extron MediaLink for iPad Adds Powerful New Features

MediaLink for iPadExtron is pleased to announce the latest version of MediaLink for iPad, version 1.1. This AV control system app, designed for the Apple iPad, provides an additional point of control for systems with Ethernet-enabled MediaLink controllers and their associated control modules. With this app, users can wirelessly control their AV system using a Wi-Fi network, allowing them the freedom to move from room to room. This latest release adds powerful new features, including support for Extron control modules to expand the app’s functionality in more applications and an enhanced Room Manager that eliminates the previous version’s 12 room limit, giving users the ability to use the app in larger scale installations. MediaLink for iPad 1.1 supports all generations of iPads and iPad mini and is now available for download on the App Store.

“Since its launch last spring, MediaLink for iPad has delivered the convenience of wireless, handheld AV control into hundreds of applications,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “This latest version integrates many new features that users have asked for, making this an even more powerful and flexible app.”

In addition to the features mentioned above, MediaLink for iPad version 1.1 also features Auto-reconnect, which recalls the previous session even after the app is closed, and Auto-lock override that keeps the iPad screen on and allows the app to stay active at all times. As in the previous version, each button press is tracked in real time between the app and the controller, so that both stay in sync. MediaLink for iPad supports Extron MLC 104 IP Plus and MLC 226 IP MediaLink Controllers that are configured using Global Configurator.

IC Realtime's Experience Center Showroom

Showroom demonstrates brand’s surveillance cameras, video recorders and Apps live, including integration into leading home automation, computer and mobile platforms; also new are a dedicated training center and a larger tech support facility

Pompano Beach, FL – March 28, 2013 – IC Realtime, a global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced visual surveillance solutions for residential and commercial applications — with US corporate headquarters in Pompano Beach, Florida and a satellite office in Goodyear, Arizona — today announced that it has expanded its Florida offices to accommodate a brand-new 20,000 square foot integration center. Now open and fully-operational, the center adds a state-of-the-art demonstration showroom, a dedicated training center and an expanded tech support / R&D lab.

The first thing visitors experience when they enter IC Realtime’s main corporate entrance is the fully-equipped showroom replete with individual workstations demonstrating the company’s many analog and IP cameras, DVRs, NVRs, Apps and accessories – all live, in action. Also in place are workstations that show IC Realtime’s products fully-integrated into RTI, Control4, Crestron and Savant environments.

In the middle of the showroom stands a display center equipped with all the mobile devices that the company supports including Kindle, Windows8, Android and Apple (both mobile and home) platforms.

Another focal point of the showroom is a demonstration of IC Realtime’s I-Sniper technology which illustrates how special sensors in the cameras capture images in detail both night and day, even under challenging mixed-lighting conditions. This “pixel-by-pixel” enhancement technology is created exclusively for IC Realtime by Pixim, Inc.

IC Realtime CEO Matt Sailor has opened the showroom to security and AV dealers interested in demonstrating the company’s solutions to their clientele. In addition, Sailor intends to fly-in dealers from around the US to experience the showroom and get better acquainted with IC Realtime.

IC Realtime’s sales and technical teams are also available to conduct demonstrations to dealers and their clientele. Standard showroom hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 6 PM. Special after-hours appointments can be made as well.

Annexed to the showroom is a brand-new training center that comfortably seats 40 people. Making for more interactive and robust training sessions, the facility incorporates digital whiteboards that communicate via Bluetooth. IC Realtime plans to offer educational classes throughout the year that earn participants 2 CEDIA University credits.

Also in place is a new-and-improved lab that IC Realtime uses for research and development and technical support. The lab is 4 times larger than the company’s previous lab and incorporates new testing areas for newly developed product, R&D equipment, and specialty projects. In total the company employs more than 30 people in the lab.

According to Sailor, the integration center cost IC Realtime more than $300,000 to build. “We’ve put our money where our mouth is here,” says Sailor. “The showroom is designed to show — not talk about — how our products truly integrate with these multiple platforms.”

The integration center is situated at IC Realtime’s US headquarters, located at 3050 North Andrews Ave Extension, Pompano Beach, FL 33064 – only minutes from Interstate I-95. Dealers interested in visiting should call 954.772.5327 or email info@icrealtime.com.

Later this year, IC Realtime plans to put in place a 10,000 square foot integration center in its Arizona office.

Jason Aldean Takes Clay Paky Sharpys and grandMA2 Along on his Night Train Tour

Clay Paky Sharpys are lighting up country singer Jason Aldean on the Night Train Tour, a musical powerhouse of a show also featuring Jake Owen and Thomas Rhett with location specific appearances by Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, and Kelly Clarkson. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor of Clay Paky fixtures in North America.

Aldean is a double-Platinum recording artist who has had nine singles reach #1 on the Hot Country Songs charts. Bandit Lites Inc. is providing him with 24 Sharpys on the tour along with a pair of grandMA2 lighting consoles. A.C.T also distributes the MA products exclusively in the U.S. and Canada.

“The show design by Mike Swinford incorporates a lot of automation,” notes Bandit Lites client rep Michael Golden. “Video panels carry the fixtures.”

Lighting designer and programmer Aaron Swetland calls the show “very dynamic” with “a lot of elements and layers. The automated video screens move in all directions with 24 axes of movement.”

Swetland says the Night Train Tour is the fourth tour on which he’s used Sharpys. “I love that light,” he says. “They have a very narrow beam and great distance. I have them spread out to maximize the effect, and they fill the palette well. It’s great when they work together delivering nice beam angles and great looks.”

Although Swetland has been a grandMA user for some time, he just made the switch to grandMA2. “This tour is my first chance to use it,” he reports. “And it was an easy transition. I got some training on the system at A.C.T, which helped a lot; their support during programming was above and beyond the call of duty.”

Swetland says grandMA2′s effects engine “is my favorite new part” of the console. “It’s a lot easier to get where you want to go. I used the bitmap effects engine to handle a matrix of 5×5 lights. I got good dynamic looks out of that. And the ability to write an effect during preset is a great feature.”

According to the lighting designer, a number of stadium shows are coming up this spring, and he plans to add 88 Sharpy fixtures to supplement his inventory.

About A.C.T Lighting

Screen Innovations Black Diamond Motorized Projection Screen is now Shipping Worldwide

Innovative Black Diamond Motorized Screen Technology is Easy to Install and Delivers Impressive Image Quality While Preserving Room Aesthetics

Austin, TX  – March 28, 2013 – Screen Innovations(SI), a leading US-

Black Diamond Motorized is a unique and elegant alternative to flat panel TVs.

based manufacturer of projection screens and associated technologies, announced today that the much-anticipated Black Diamond Motorized projection screen is now shipping to integrators and end users worldwide.

Black Diamond™ Motorized

Featuring a brand new and truly unique motorized design utilizing SI’s award-winning Black Diamond ambient light rejection screen technology, Black Diamond Motorized is a sleek and sexy flat panel alternative that delivers stunning images yet disappears when not in use, making it ideal for virtually any environment or application.

Utilizing one motor, four custom helixes, and a spool of slender aircraft cable, Black Diamond Motorized silently lowers a thin wing containing the rolled Black Diamond screen downward from a recessed ceiling-mounted cassette. The cable-hung wing then stops, and from it, a small tube quickly emerges and lowers itself down to an adjustable, pre-determined image height, leaving only the image space in sight. Because Black Diamond screens do not require masking or any black drop material whatsoever, there is no visible material above, below, or on either side of the screen surface, allowing the images projected on Black Diamond Motorized to appear as though they are suspended in air.

Unlike flat panel TVs, Black Diamond Motorized delivers zero glare and reflection when used in a bright environment, and by virtue of its industry-leading Black Diamond ambient light rejection screen technology, light scatter is measurably reduced by over 75%. Delivering a next-level entertainment experience while literally disappearing into the room’s existing décor when not in use, Black Diamond Motorized appeals to the senses – and satisfies the needs of - a diverse audience in either residential or commercial environments. Black Diamond Motorized is the ultimate blend of art + science.

Digital Nirvana to Present at the NAB Show Enterprise Computing PIT

Session will focus on advanced broadcast monitoring for today’s video delivery ecosystems

Newark, CA – Digital Nirvana announces plans to speak at the 2013 NAB Show’s Enterprise Computing PIT, a destination pavilion on the show floor designed to provide attendees with an intimate meeting place to learn about new tools playing an ever-expanding role in the world of media and entertainment. The presentation will focus on advanced monitoring for the broadcast infrastructure and will take place on Monday, April 8 at 3:45 pm.

At the NAB Show, which runs April 8-11, the Enterprise Computing PIT will be located at Booth N6621 in the Las Vegas Convention Center. During the conference, Digital Nirvana will exhibit its broadcast suite of content repurposing and monitoring solutions, including its latest version of Monitor IQ, in Booth N3434.

Digital Nirvana’s CEO, Hiren Hindocha, will co-present with Fereidoon Khosravi, Senior Vice President of Business Development, Venera Technologies. The two companies formed a strategic partnership last year that allows Digital Nirvana to leverage Venera’s quality control and test and measurement components with Digital Nirvana’s flagship Monitor IQ broadcast monitoring solution.

Hindocha and Khosravi will discuss how monitoring systems must mirror the increasing sophistication of the broadcast plants in which they reside. And they will address why high-quality monitoring and analyzing of digital video and audio signals is so important for broadcasters today. No longer should multiple operators have to run between disparate computers to track different broadcast parameters. The ability to cross reference all on-site and off-site systems within an enterprise, harvest metadata, drill down and take action on any issue – all from one central user interface – is what’s expected from a monitoring system today.

Among broadcasters increasingly complex set of monitoring requirements: delivery to more channels, creating a cohesive and revenue-generating mobile and online platform, and providing signals that comply with closed captioning and loudness regulations.

The most advanced monitoring systems can combine signal-monitoring, loudness monitoring, aircheck-logging, archiving, diagnostics/QC, and competitive analysis in one scalable, networked solution.

“Speaking about advanced broadcast monitoring in the context of the larger video delivery ecosystem is a great opportunity for us,” said Hiren Hindocha, president and CEO of Digital Nirvana. “At Digital Nirvana, our focus is to offer our clients an efficient broadcast monitoring system that simplifies their monitoring workflow, helps to reduce operational costs, and easily adapts to evolving broadcast environments. I’m looking forward to being a part of this presentation in NAB Enterprise Computing PIT.”

Andrea Perry of Musical Duo Kaliyo Relies On HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Bundle

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – For over 15 years Andrea Perry has had a varied musical career, she’s contributed the music for dozens of video games, TV shows, movies and more. She currently runs Andrea Perry Productions, which has released three solo albums (with a fourth in the making) and along with Sarah Sharp is one half of indie pop music duo Kaliyo, whose songs have been licensed worldwide for TV, commercials and Internet marketing videos. After using countless other reverb software programs Perry was looking for something new and ultimately discovered HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Bundle.

“I was using other reverb software for a while but found myself looking for a change,” said Perry, “so I started reading reviews and doing research on various music and recording websites. “The Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Bundle seemed to be highly respected by a lot of people doing a lot of different styles of music. I downloaded the demo version and fell in love with it right away when I heard it on Sarah’s voice. When the demo expired, the tracks I had used the PCM Native Reverb Bundle plug-ins on suddenly sounded very dull! It didn’t take long before I felt like I couldn’t function without the plug-ins.”

Although the PCM Native Reverb Bundle offers 7 exclusive Lexicon reverbs and effects and hundreds of studio presets, Perry finds herself drawn to the Vintage Plate and Hall settings the most. “I don’t know how to elaborate on this except to say that I just really like the way the Lexicon plug-ins improve the tracks, especially vocals, percussion and acoustic guitars. But when you come down to it, the plug-ins flatter pretty much everything.”

“The Lexicon reverbs add dimension and sound smooth and lush. They just make things sound better. The presets are also very helpful as starting points towards getting the sounds I want as I consider myself a non-technical person. If I’m working on a vocal, for example, I’ll grab a vintage plate reverb preset and then tweak that. If I had to start from nothing I’d be lost.”

“We are very lucky to work with artists of Andrea’s talent,” stated Noel Larson Market Manager for Recording, Tour and Portable PA at HARMAN Signal Processing. “Her ability to seamlessly cross from popular to commercial works with the same plug-ins shows the power of our reverbs. She exemplifies our brand motto, When you hear music, you hear Lexicon.”

Perry continues to collaborate with Sarah Sharp in Kaliyo and is currently working on her fourth solo album, “Four,” doing production work for 21-year-old singer/songwriter Ariel Abshire and composing for more commercials and videos. Through it all, Perry notes there’s one constant in her variegated musical career: “I now use the Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Bundle on every session.”

HARMAN’s Crown Audio Amplifiers Power the Public Address/Life Safety System In Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station

POINT LEPREAU, New Brunswick — The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station, a power plant located near New Brunswick, Canada, recently underwent a complete audio upgrade featuring HARMAN’s Crown CTs Series Amplifiers. Point Lepreau, which began operating in 1983, has been redesigned to meet all current nuclear facility standards including its public address and life safety systems.

“Since 9/11, much closer attention has been paid to life safety systems,” said Steve O’Rourke, Audio Division Manager of Backman Vidcom, the Halifax, Nova Scotia integrator responsible for installing the plant-wide public address system. “Along with security, fire protection and rescue systems, the PA system has an extremely important role in plant safety. People need to be able to hear announcements and alerts clearly – it can be a matter of life and death in an emergency situation.”

The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station system includes 18 Crown CTs Series CTs 8200USP/CN power amplifiers with CobraNet™ networking cards and 32 Crown CTs 2000 amps with PIP3 card connectivity. “This gives us a total of 208 channels and 92,800 watts of power,” O’Rourke noted. “We needed the networking capability the Crown amps provide because we designed the installation to be a completely self-monitoring system.”

Since the previous PA was 30 years old it needed to be completely replaced. “This gave us the opportunity to take advantage of the latest advancements in amplifier and speaker design and system control. What the plant needed was a ‘Voice of God’ PA that could reliably deliver pages all day long and could be clearly heard for any alert and emergency situations that might occur. It had to be intelligible even over the adverse noise conditions that occur in a large industrial complex,” O’Rourke stated.

Equally important, the system absolutely had to keep functioning during emergency situations and had to be CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certified and assembled to nuclear-grade standards. For these reasons O’Rourke only used most reliable components and built in a level of redundancy so that the PA would keep working even if parts of it incurred physical damage.

“The Crown amplifiers proved ideal for this unique situation because of their networking, internal processing and status reporting capabilities. We also chose them for their reliability, limited current draw and small thermal footprint,” added O’Rourke. “The flexibility of the Crown amps was key for making this installation work. I can’t imagine having undertaken this project with any other amplifier.”

“Everything in this installation had to be the best possible – even the quality of the equipment racks had to be literally nuclear-grade – and that is why there was no question about us using anything but Crown amplifiers,” O’Rourke concluded.
