HARMAN’s Studer Collaborates with ENCO on Console/Radio Automation Interface

POTTERS BAR, United Kingdom — HARMAN’s Studer and ENCO, an independent producer of audio playout and automation systems for radio and television broadcasting, have recently partnered in development on interfacing to each other’s systems, with the result being shown on both companies’ booths at NAB 2013 in Las Vegas.

SKYE’s The Limit For Martin Audio

Jakarta, Indonesia––The spectacular SKYE Bar & Restaurant in Jakarta is the latest venue to be opened by the Ismaya Group. Located on the 56th floor of the 754 foot-high Menara BCA building, SKYE’s main attraction is a stupendous view over the city’s skyline.

The distributor already had a relationship with the club’s owners, who have been using Martin Audio systems for many of their group restaurants and clubs over the years. Minnetonka Audio Software Introduces New Version of SurCode for Dolby Pro Logic II, Now With Integrated Loudness Measurement

MINNETONKA, Minn. — March 27, 2013 — Minnetonka Audio Software, Inc. (MASI) today announced the third version of its SurCode(TM) encoder/decoder software for Dolby(R) Pro Logic II. The latest version of the Dolby-certified codec is the first in the industry to integrate Minnetonka Audio’s loudness measurement technology as seen in its benchmark AudioTools(TM) Server family. New, built-in loudness measurement simplifies workflows and yields EBU R 128 and “CALMpliant” deliverables with less reworking — saving time, money, and hassle for broadcast, postproduction, A/V, industrial, radio, OTT, and mobile/hand-held operations.

“The Minnetonka Audio tradition is to supply discriminating audio professionals with certified Dolby codecs with the aim of streamlining workflows,” said Jayson Tomlin, vice president of business operations at Minnetonka Audio. “SurCode Version 3′s integrated loudness measurement saves time and money while reinforcing industry best practices. Also, the new version addresses the need for complete LtRt creation, the most relevant and widely compatible surround technology today.”

SurCode Version 3 for Dolby Pro Logic II offers complete, Dolby-certified Dolby Pro Logic II encoding and Pro Logic II, Pro Logic IIx, and Pro Logic IIz decoding of up to eight channels of audio. The product enables auditioning, encoding, and decoding of audio with a Dolby-certified Dolby Pro Logic II codec, making it easy to produce surround-ready mixes in real time.

Real-time loudness metrics are displayed for the LoRo stream, multichannel source, or the undecoded stereo LtRt stem ensuring that all are CALMpliant. Monitoring and loudness-measurement tools and built-in encoding/decoding features enable mixes to be optimized for all playback situations, regardless of whether the LtRt is decoded into surround or remains in stereo mode as delivered.

As with other versions of SurCode, Version 3 can be deployed as a plug-in for popular digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Avid(R) or VST, making it a powerful, time-saving tool for efficient mixing right in the DAW. Version 3 includes forward-looking AAX support as well as backward-compatible RTAS and AudioSuite plug-ins. Also new to Version 3 is the option of a cross-platform, stand-alone application for use in any environment. iLok(TM) dongle-based licenses provide for easy portability among suites and locations.

Minnetonka Audio will demonstrate SurCode Version 3 for Dolby Pro Logic II at the 2013 NAB Show in booth SU8918. The product will be available in the second quarter. More information about Minnetonka Audio products is available at www.minnetonkaaudio.com.

Snell to Demonstrate Real-Time, IP-based Video Streaming for Content Transfer at 2013 NAB Show

New IP-Based Interfaces for Snell Modular, Production Switching, and Routing Systems Offer Broadcasters a Smooth Transition to IP Workflows

READING, U.K. — March 27, 2013 — In booth N1820 at the 2013 NAB Show, Snell will feature a demonstration of seamless content transfer via real-time IP links that showcase the powerful new IP-based, real-time interfaces for the company’s Kahuna 360 production switcher, IQ Modular range, and Sirius 800 Advanced Hybrid Processing router.

“Traditionally, media enterprises have used digital switched networks to transfer compressed and uncompressed video and audio for both contribution and distribution applications,” said Paola Hobson, senior product manager at Snell. “This is changing as organizations begin to turn to real-time IP links for both external and internal signal transfer. In addition to better integration with file-based workflows and IP distribution infrastructures, this new transfer paradigm offers significant opportunities for cost savings in which broadcast-specific cabling and distribution equipment can be replaced by lower-cost standard IT components.”

Typical applications for real-time IP transfer of content are professional broadcast contribution (content supplied for onward editing or other processing), studio-to-studio media exchange, in-house signal distribution and routing (material sent for further editing or placed on the final path to the end consumer), and live event coverage. At the 2013 NAB Show, Snell’s demo will show how IP links can be used to transfer content in real time over an MPEG-2 transport stream, such as those in widespread use for real-time multimedia content communication. Originating as a 1080 59p feed from the Kahuna 360 multi-format production switcher, the content is encoded into a 200 Mbps video stream using the AVC-Intra 100 video codec. The signal is then passed via a Snell IQGBE80 Ethernet switch to Snell IQ modules that provide IP-to-SDI decoding, down-conversion to 1080 59i to feed a video monitor, an IQ module for logo insertion, and encoding back to SDI for transfer to the Sirius 800 router.

“At Snell, we understand that many of our customers will take a phased approach to implementing all-IP workflows, and that they will need to manage both SDI and IP interfaces for a period of time,” Hobson added. “By creating IP interfaces for our modular, routing, and production switching equipment, Snell offers broadcast and media organizations a convenient way to manage a hybrid SDI-IP facility. By offering broadcast-friendly control and monitoring, Snell products provide a smooth, cost-effective path for users to transition from SDI to IP, as operation and control paradigms will be familiar.”

More information about Snell’s full Broadcast Infrastructure product line is available online at www.snellgroup.com.

Front Porch Digital Releases DIVArchive V7.1

New Version of Content Storage Management System Supports LTO-6, Introduces AXF Explorer Interface, and Integrates With More Transcoding Workflows

LOUISVILLE, Colo. — March 26, 2013 — Front Porch Digital, the global leader in cloud-based content storage management (CSM) solutions, today announced the release of DIVArchive(R) V7.1, the newest version of its advanced CSM system. New features and integrations, such as LTO-6 support and new AXF handling, make the system ideal for a broader array of applications in media operations of every kind, including broadcast facilities, educational and heritage institutions, production and postproduction houses, and government entities.

“DIVArchive was built to interconnect every element of a video-oriented, file-based operation, from archive to production to transmission,” said Mike Knaisch, president and CEO of Front Porch Digital. “We’ve enhanced the already powerful system with some very important features in order to extend usability even further and keep up with evolving formats.”

One of those features is support for LTO-6 drives and media. The LTO-6 format has 2.5 TB of capacity compared with 1.5 TB for LTO-5, allowing customers to store more data within the same footprint and lowering the cost per terabyte. After working closely with the HP Storage Group to earn qualification, Front Porch Digital has extended DIVArchive to support LTO-6 drives for the entire range of HP Enterprise Class and Business Class tape libraries.

Also new in DIVArchive V7.1 is AXF Explorer, an intuitive interface for parsing Archive eXchange Format (AXF) objects. AXF Explorer’s straightforward operations are performed using drag-and-drop procedures, just like in the Windows(R) operating system. AXF Explorer can copy AXF files or folders to a local or networked disk volume and can display any AXF embedded metadata.

Another major accomplishment is a recently announced partnership with file-transfer software company Data Expedition to integrate its ExpeDat(TM) WAN acceleration product into DIVArchive V7.1. The integration gives DIVArchive users a WAN acceleration option that is fully managed and supported by Front Porch Digital, and it is the first direct integration of a WAN acceleration protocol into a CSM cloud-based solution.

DIVArchive V7.1 also improves the handling of file checksum metadata within the archive so that any application can get the checksum using DIVArchive APIs (e.g., Web services API). These features make it possible for customers, and especially for storage-service providers, to get checksum values calculated by DIVArchive and validate the integrity of their digitized content at any time.

In addition, by directly integrating with Telestream’s Vantage Transcode and Vantage Transcode Pro software packages, DIVArchive V7.1 now enables the complete range of Telestream’s world-class video transcoding and workflows. Vantage supplies users with more formats and provides a powerful yet simple way to build and automate video workflows.

Front Porch Digital will display DIVArchive V7.1 at the 2013 NAB Show in booths SU3602 and SU3605. More information about Front Porch Digital products is available at fpdigital.com.
