Systems Integrator Encore Broadcast Relies on Hitachi HDTV Cameras for House of Worship Installs

WOODBURY, New York – Systems integrator Encore Broadcast Solutions in Winter Springs, Florida, consistently relies on Hitachi HDTV studio field production cameras for house of worship installations throughout the state. The company recently installed Z-HD5000 cameras from Hitachi Kokusai Electric America at three churches: First Presbyterian of Orlando, First Presbyterian of Bonita Springs, and Faith Assembly of God in Orlando.

“The Z-HD5000 offers great functionality and is extremely easy to use,” said Jeff Cameron, Sales Engineer, Encore Broadcast Solutions. “With a lot of our projects, we’re looking for high-quality cameras with a reasonable price point that operate with fiber cable and can be portable. The Z-HD5000 fits these needs perfectly, which is why I’ve consistently used the camera in recent projects. In fact, overall, I continue to rely on Hitachi cameras and have done so for years.”

One of the churches that worked with Encore last year to upgrade to HD is First Presbyterian Church of Orlando. The church uses video to stream a formal service from the main auditorium to a 16’ x 9’ screen in a smaller room nearby that seats 300 people. The church also streams video of its services to the web. While some may use lower quality equipment for Internet streaming, Encore felt it was worth the investment to install broadcast quality equipment.

“Ultimately, you’re spending a bit more money for much better quality that will be seen on many computers and televisions. To enhance the Web viewing experience of the church’s followers, we chose high-quality video equipment while keeping a budget in mind. Hitachi’s Z-HD5000 was an ideal pick for the church,” explained Cameron.

According to Richard Swinson, Technical Arts Director, for First Presbyterian Church, “Our Hitachi cameras were an important part of our total HD upgrade. From HD images on screens in our traditional service, to HD broadcast of our contemporary service, and live HD streaming to our website, the high-quality imaging we capture with our Hitachi cameras stood out to our congregation immediately. It really makes a significant, positive difference to our members and viewers.”

Another church that recently installed Hitachi’s Z-HD5000 cameras is First Presbyterian of Bonita Springs. Before the HD overhaul, the church used small consumer cameras. One of the design challenges for Encore was building a control room out of the church’s attic. Because the control room wasn’t near the main auditorium, they needed HD cameras with digital optical fiber CCU that allowed them to use I-MAG to broadcast sermons throughout the entire building. Three Hitachi’s Z-HD5000 cameras equipped with optical fiber and FUJINON lenses are installed in the main auditorium of the church. The project included building a video and sound system in the church’s overflow room, where services are streamed live to members who prefer to attend services in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Faith Assembly of God in Orlando also worked extensively with Encore to build its new campus. Three Hitachi Z-HD5000 cameras were installed in the main sanctuary’s 2,700-seat auditorium. Two of the Hitachi cameras are equipped with Angenieux telephoto lenses and set in the sound booth in the back of the auditorium. The third Hitachi camera is on a jib equipped with a Canon wide angle lens. Faith Assembly uses video in a variety of ways, including live streaming of its services and concert productions to reach its audience in multiple continents.

Cameron said, “As a systems integrator, our goal is to choose high quality products that give our clients the best bang for their buck. With Hitachi’s Z-HD5000 camera, I’m confident we’re doing just that.”

Jeff Cameron can be reached at (407) 448-3531 or jcameron@encorebroadcast.com.

Zylight Upgrades Product Line for NAB 2013

LOS ANGELES – Zylight, a leading manufacturer of innovative LED lighting solutions, will debut new accessories and configurations for its current product line, formally introduce its F8 LED Fresnel, and announce lower prices on select products at the 2013 NAB Show (Booth C5446), which runs April 8-11 in Las Vegas, Nev.

The IS3c LED light, an updated version of Zylight’s acclaimed IS3 large panel cyclorama and beauty light, now ships with a custom soft box produced exclusively by Chimera for Zylight. The fully dimmable IS3c is a wide, high-output soft light with built-in controls for adjusting color temperature, color correction, and Zylight’s Color Mode, which produces millions of colors without gels or filters.

“We’ve made some software improvements, but the big difference our customers will see is the Chimera softbox as part of thepackage,” said Charlie Collias, senior vice president, worldwide sales. “The IS3c is great for many setups, but some beauty shots require the diffused uniform light you get from a softbox. That’s where this new standard configuration really shines – the new IS3c provides the versatility to handle studio cyc wall washing as well as productions where a large soft light source is needed.”

Zylight will also unveil an optional travel case for its compact Z90 LED light. Available in DV, ENG, and DP configurations, the new case features custom foam cutouts for secure storage of the Z90 and its accessories. The versatile Z90 can instantly switch between daylight and tungsten, and offers full Color Mode output with separate hue and saturation control.

After showing a proof of concept at the NAB Show last year, Zylight will formally introduce its 2013 F8 LED Fresnel in tungsten (3200K) and daylight (5600K) versions. For easy transport and storage, the rugged F8 collapses to less than four inches thick. It is also water resistant (IP54 rated) for use in challenging environments, and can be powered by a worldwide AC adapter or standard 14.4V camera battery. The fully dimmable F8 is also equipped with an eight-inch SCHOTT glass lens, maintains traditional Fresnel beam shaping, and offers a patented focusing system for spot and flood operations.

To help introduce the F8, two invited speakers will share their shooting experiences at Zylight’s NAB booth. On Monday, April 8, at noon, Boston-based DP Tom Guilmette will discuss how the new Zylight F8 performed in the unforgiving weather conditions at the top of Mount Washington. Matt Kearney, vice president of Fastec Imaging, will show how his company’s ultra-portable TS3Cine high-speed handheld camera works with Zylight’s flicker-free LED lights on Tuesday, April 9, at 1 p.m.

Zylight will also debut new lower pricing at the show. The new IS3c with custom softbox has an MSRP of $2,699, while the Z90’s MSRP has been reduced to $935. The new custom Z90 travel case has an MSRP of $279 and will be available in May. The F8 has an MSRP of $2,400 and will ship in June, but NAB attendees can receive a $200 rebate on all F8 orders through May 15.

Clear-Com Unveils Further Enhancements to Its Tempest Digital Wireless Intercoms at Prolight + Sound 2013

Latest Updates Include a Remote Line Extender

FRANKFURT, APRIL 3, 2013 ─ Clear-Com®, a global leader in critical voice communications systems, announces enhancements to its Tempest Digital Wireless Intercoms at Prolight + Sound 2013 (Hall 8.0, Stand L51). Among the enhancements is a Remote Line Extender, which further increases the Tempest systems’ ability to provide ultra-portable wireless communications capabilities in RF-rich environments.

The Tempest®2400 is a 2.4-GHz, feature-rich wireless intercom with either a two- or four-channel offering that delivers cutting-edge RF technologies to ensure interference-free communications for tours and performance facilities. The Tempest2400 offers a Seamless Roaming feature, which provides users with continuous wireless coverage across an expanded production space. The Seamless Roaming feature allows BeltStation users to migrate between as many as 16 different Tempest BaseStations (coverage areas or zones), allowing audio professionals to focus on critical production cues rather than on the settings of their wireless BeltStations. This gives them the ability to move freely and wirelessly throughout large venues separated by large distances, such as multi-studio complexes and sports arenas. Both Seamless Roaming and iSelect Roaming are available to accommodate virtually every application need.

The new Tempest Remote Transceiver Line Extender increases the system’s cable run distance of a remote antenna by 3,000 feet (914 meters), with one Line Extender or 2,000 feet (609 meters) per Line Extender if using more than one Line Extender. This allows for the deployment of larger systems with longer cable runs from the BaseStation. A total of three Line Extenders can be connected to provide total coverage of up to 7,500 feet (2286 meters).

About Clear-Com®
Clear-Com, an HME company, is a global provider in professional voice communications systems since 1968. We develop and market proven intercom technologies such as Analog & Digital Partyline, Digital Matrix, Wireless and Intercom-over-IP systems for critical communication applications in broadcast, performance venues, military, government and enterprise markets. Ciphertex Debuts Portable, Secure NAS Server at NAB

NAB Booth SL12510

CX-6K-AV 24TB Designed to Meet Needs of Entertainment-Media Industry

(LOS ANGELES,CA) Ciphertex, the global provider of unique hardware-encrypted storage products, will unveil the CX-6K-AV at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 8-11. This new 24TB portable, highly secure NAS server is ideal for backup, disaster recovery and business continuity, file sharing and virtualization, will be showcased at booth #SL12510, along with the company's full line of encrypted digital storage solutions.

"The Ciphertex CX-6K-AV is a compact, lightweight, high-performance server designed for directors, producers, postproduction and archival facilities that need a secure, portable NAS server," says Jerry Kaner, CEO and founder of Los Angeles-based Ciphertex. "More than any other market, media and entertainment demands performance. What is unique about the CX-6K-AV is that our AES 256-bit encryption engine provides the high level of security with no loss of performance. The combination of portability, encryption and high performance are a first in a server for this market."

Ciphertex comes to the media and entertainment space with an uncommon level of experience. The company is the leading provider of secure, portable data storage systems using advanced hardware encryption for the forensics, oil and gas, government and healthcare market. The work in which they are engaged for those sectors demands an incomparable level and depth of security. For the entertainment industry, a natural outgrowth of their historical competencies, Ciphertex has been successfully collaborating with Universal, Sony, Warner Bros. and HBO.

Kaner notes that the Motion Picture Association of America statistics point to piracy costs in the U.S. of $58 billion annually, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce says that such piracy threatens 19 million American jobs. As digital picture capture dramatically increases across all production, secure digital storage of assets is a primary concern for on-set and near-set digital dailies and postproduction.

The Ciphertex CX-6K-AV server offers lightning fast transfer of video dailies, high bit-rate audio files, 3D renderings and other high-resolution content. It serves as both IP-SAN (iSCSI) and NAS, offering advanced RAID configuration with hot-swap capability. The cost-effective server can store HD video footage and transmit fully encrypted data using AES 256-bt encryption at an incredibly fast 1,000 MB/s over a 10 GbE network.

Ideal for the production ecosystem, the new NAS server is packed with security features to stop all unauthorized data access and prevent data breach even if the hard drives or the device is stolen. The dual OS embedded on the DOM architecture ensure redundancy. If one of the two operating systems fails, the other will boot up and operate normally while repairing the failed system. The dual Gb LAN ports can also be configured for failover, which allows the Ciphertex CX-6K-AV to sustain the failure of one network port and still provide continuous service.

The CX-6K-AV is VMware certified, Citrix XenServer ready, and Windows Hyper-V compliant. With an advanced Intel Core i3-3220, dual-core processor with 3.3 GHz, 2 GB DDR3 memory, it enables fast data transfers directly to any workstation via its 1GbE or 10 GbE interface and connects to external devices over eSATA or USB-3. The server easily accommodates three streams of 1080p24 at 16-bit RGB, three streams of 2K x 1,556p24 at 16-bit RGB or one stream of 4Kp24 (RED) at 10-bit RGB.

"Multiple users, such as teams of editors in different locations, can aggregate two units and have access to the same files for postproduction efficiency, business continuity and asset protection," says Kaner. "Data transfer to 4TB USB-3 also ensures fast movement of assets from location to location."

The Ciphertex CX-6K-AV's small footprint makes it quick and easy to set up and dismantle networks wherever they are required. The portable NAS server units are available with an air-tight, water-tight and shatter-resistant field kit to ensure reliability in all environments.

The CX-6K-AV is expandable with Ciphertex's 20TB CX-Ranger RAID for a total capacity of 44TB of algorithm-encrypted storage. Additional CX-6K-AV units can also be networked together.

For under $5,000 the Ciphertex CX-6K-AV server is expected to ship in late spring 2013.

About Ciphertex
Ciphertex was launched in 2011 and differentiates itself from the rest of the storage industry by securing data with real-time AES-256 encryption/decryption implemented in hardware in an ergonomically- designed, portable direct attached storage system and in software in powerful NAS systems. Fairlight Scores Highly With Top Sports Post Production Houses

WEST MILFORD, New Jersey- Leading sports broadcast networks including NFL Films, WWE, Major League Baseball Productions and NASCAR have continued to deploy Fairlight consoles for over 20 years due to their unmatched performance, high quality sound and flexible tactile editing capabilities.

Overall, NFL Films occupies 16 audio suites for production work, using a combination of Xynergi and EVO consoles. “We were already using Xynergi controllers and knew the software and automation well, so adding the EVO control surfaces was a very straightforward process operationally,” explained Vince Caputo, Supervising Sound Mixer at NFL Films. “Our audio infrastructure and workflow are built around the Fairlight, it’s the cornerstone of everything that we do with sound.”

“Sonically, the Fairlight products are brilliant, but the main attraction for us has always been speed,” Caputo continues. “We regularly have fast turnaround times and tight deadlines, and the speed and flexibility of the Fairlight Xynergi is unmatched.”

Based in Stamford, Connecticut, WWE is home to one of the largest entertainment companies in the world, reaching 13 million viewers in the United States as well as broadcasting shows in over 30 languages to more than 145 countries.

“The editing capability of the Xynergi is so far beyond anything else,” said Chris Argento, VP of Post-Production at WWE. “If we ever had to switch away from Fairlight, it would greatly affect our workflow and slow us down a great deal.”

WWE continues to utilize Fairlight’s Constellation as well as six Xynergi consoles to meet post-production needs. “With many projects taking place in various rooms Fairlight has allowed us to access all projects in every room while having access to all 96 channels and HD Video everywhere,” Argento continued. “The support from the Fairlight team as well as the request for future improvements has been top of the line and helped us to continue to meet our goals and expand on the work that we are able to do.”

Major League Baseball Productions, another strong endorser of Fairlight also continues to use the Constellation and Xynergi consoles due to their advanced state of the art digital audio recording, editing, mixing and delivery technologies.

John Gardner, audio post mixer at MLB Productions, states, “speed, new features, versatility and superior sound quality are all key reasons why MLB has continued to invest in Fairlight. The CC-1 engine provides world-class automation and also allows me to deliver 5.1 and stereo mixes and also support multiple A/V file formats so we can import, export and convert files in a fraction of real time.”

Combined, Fairlight has maintained its strong presence in the world of sports and continues to develop products that meet the needs of post-production studios everywhere. Stop by booth #SU9507 at NAB 2013 to learn more.
