MelroseTEC Professionals Prep for Complete Upgrade of Toyota Video Production Center

Los Angeles, CA, – MelroseTEC, the professional services division of MelroseMAC, has signed a contract with Toyota Motor Sales USA to overhaul the Toyota Video Production Center located in Torrance, California. MelroseTEC will be upgrading the Production Center’s control room from SD to HD as well as providing new production and post-production equipment. The deal came to a conclusion after a three-month consulting period where MelroseTEC professionals worked with the Toyota production staff in mapping out the equipment and process changes needed in order to help Toyota reach their content acquisition and distribution goals.

The new solution, which is in the process of being deployed, allows Toyota to perform such tasks as capturing live HD feeds from their sound stages, building a content repository of content for better management of media and distributing web-based content to Toyota locations around the world. The Toyota Video Production Center produces a majority of the company’s internal video communications as well as media for other purposes such as marketing, social media and training.

MelroseTEC will be providing the complete design, cabling and racking services for the redesigned control room as well as integrating a new Sony HD production switcher and a digital Utah Scientific router into the Video Production Center. A newly designed machine room will house Avid Interplay, ISIS 5000 and an SGL archiving solution communicating with a SpectraLogic tape library. Toyota’s editors will use the latest release of Avid Media Composers for content creation utilizing Nitris DX hardware. MelroseMAC is an Avid Elite Reseller and employs a host of Avid product experts, which was of critical importance to Toyota since the workflow is based (in part) on Avid products.

JL Armstrong, National Manager External Affairs, Toyota Motor Sales and manager of the Toyota Video Production Center said, “We were extremely impressed with the knowledge base and level of commitment that MelroseMAC brought to the table during our discussions about our facility upgrade and integration project. We had specific goals we wanted to reach with our production facility–dictated by the needs of our clients. Their team understood these goals, and worked closely with us to develop the right solution to accomplish them. We are really excited to start this project and anticipating a great working relationship with our new partner.”

MelroseMAC will train Toyota employees on their new software and hardware upon completion of the installation, enabling the company to turn projects around faster and more efficiently at much higher quality than their previous solution.

Martin Vann, CEO of MelroseMAC stated, “This is the kind of project we love doing. We are able to bring all of our resources together in helping Toyota take a huge step forward in both equipment and workflow, while at the same time, providing a foundation for continued growth of their media environment”.

Brian Boring, Vice President of MelroseTEC added, “The entire Toyota team has been great to work with, and we are very pleased with the partnership we have formed. MelroseMAC is extremely excited to work with Toyota and looking forward to building a long term relationship with the Video Production Center team.”

L-ACOUSTICS Keeps the Nightlife Pumping at Bamboo Miami

Audio Formula installs KUDO/SB28 system at South Beach’s hottest nightclub

MIAMI, Florida — Built nearly seven decades ago, Miami Beach’s Variety Theater — later known as the Paris Theatre — achieved a certain amount of fame in the ’80s when Big Time Productions used the space as a photo/film studio to shoot album covers and music videos for top artists like Madonna and U2.

Today, world-renowned musicians and celebrities are once again pouring into the South Beach hotspot — now dubbed “Bamboo Miami” — but this time for its swanky nightlife. Bucharest-based Bamboo Group, a successful European club owner and promoter, took over the landmark venue last year and renovated it into a lavish nightclub that both faithfully preserves its classic Art Deco ornamentation and dresses it up with a mega-dose of modern ambiance. more

Stampede Named Exclusive North American Distributor of the TAP-it® Assistive Learning Platform

Underscoring its commitment to provide K-12 and Higher Education dealers with the latest cutting-edge assistive learning solutions, Stampede Presentations Products, Inc., the industry’s largest value-added distributor of ProAV solutions, today announced that it has been named the exclusive North American distributor of the TAP·it® (Touch Accessible Platform Interactive Technology) Assistive Learning Platform.

The TAP·it platform is the first ADA compliant interactive learning station designed to differentiate between an accidental touch or arm resting on the screen and an intentional screen-tap by a finger or assistive device. The platform provides an optimal learning interface for students with special needs to operate at their own pace, including those students with physical disabilities, fine motor delays, visual or hearing impairments or developmental delays. The TAP·it touch accessible interactive learning platform is a transformative tool for therapists and educators, and supports shared occupational therapy and academic goals by minimizing barriers and maximizing flexibility by adapting to a person’s individual needs.

“We are proud to bring this groundbreaking assistive learning technology to our dealer partners in the K-12 and Higher Education markets,” Stampede President & COO Kevin Kelly said today. “The availability of this remarkable platform completely reinvigorates the ways in which classroom technology is deployed to help those students who need creative solutions in their learning environments.”

With the touch of a button, the TAP·it platform can move up or down and the 42″ interactive LCD panel can be tilted from 0 – 90 degrees, to be brought within reach for people using wheelchairs, walkers or other mobility devices. These adjustments make the TAP·it platform infinitely more accessible to physically challenged students and their instructors or therapists than stationary wall-mounted boards.

Recognizing the challenges of classroom environments, the TAP·it platform’s commercial grade LCD panel is made of shatter-resistant safety glass; is impervious to dust, grit, grime or other contaminants; and its screen technology, used by the military, is repurposed exclusively for the TAP·it platform, and resists marks and scratches. Mobility is essential for educators or therapists who may use the TAP·it platform in multiple classroom or therapy environments, so the TAP·it platform can be easily rolled to desired locations, and the workstation is kept secure and stable with commercial grade locking casters. The field-tested platform is counter-balanced, so even if a person leans his or her full body weight against it, the TAP·it platform will not tip.

Not only is the TAP·it platform compatible with virtually every educational and assistive software program being used on classroom computers, it improves the user-experience in a number of ways. The large, touch-sensitive screen supports the use of on-screen keyboards or voice recognition for typing; switch/scanning for mouse control or cause/effect programs; screen readers for text to speech capabilities; and screen magnification programs. TAP·it can also be used with Tool Factory’s special education software bundles, Claro Software’s assistive speech and imaging programs, and Daydream Interactive Content Packs’ curriculum-based content and ready-made interactive activity software.

For more information about the TAP·it Assistive Learning Platform, including demonstration videos and user testimonials, please visit www.stampedeglobal.com/tapit.

What’s more, according to Kelly, the TAP·it Assistive Learning Platform will be showcased at all of the upcoming stops on the Spring 2013 Big Book of AV Tour, presenting dealers with the opportunity to experience the unique capabilities offered by this platform. The next stops on the Big Book of AV Tour are scheduled to take place on May 9, 2013 in Montreal, Canada, and in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 16, 2013.

The award was presented to DPA’s CEO Christian Poulsen at a special mipa Awards Ceremony held during Musikmesse/Prolight + Sound on Thursday, April 11th 2013.

Widely regarded as the “Grammys” of the Musical Instrument/Pro Audio industry, the mipa Awards are voted for by editors of over 100 magazines from around the world. The 2012/2013 Awards had over 40 categories covering musical instruments and audio equipment.

Commenting on the Award, Christian Poulsen says: “We are absolutely delighted that our d:facto II Vocal Microphone has been recognised as a ground-breaking product, and that we were able to beat off stiff competition from other well-known and respected microphone brands. We spent three years developing this microphone and we are very proud of our achievement. We always knew we were onto a winner and it is very satisfying to see that the cream of the world’s pro audio and musical instrument press agrees with us.”

DPA’s d:facto II Vocal Microphone brings true studio sound to the live stage by offering an extraordinarily natural sound, superior gain before feedback and extreme SPL handling. In addition to use with the new wired DPA handle, the d:facto II provides singers and engineers with the added benefit of a state-of-the-art adapter system that allows for seamless integration with many professional wireless systems such as Sony, Lectrosonics, Shure, Wisycom and Sennheiser.

Equally at home in sound reinforcement and recording applications, the d:facto II is the vocal microphone that the music industry has been waiting for. Its simple plug-and-play features allow it to reproduce an extraordinary natural sound, which reaches the extreme sound level handling of 160 dB. As with all DPA mics, the d:facto II is superbly linear in frequency and phase, both on- and off-axis, while its impressive definition and accuracy reproduces a singer’s voice effortlessly. It also sets new standards its robust three-stage pop protection grid that ensures the removal of unwanted noise.

During Prolight + Sound, folk pop band SHEL performed on the DPA booth using the new d:facto II Vocal Microphones in several wireless configurations. Already fans of DPA’s d:vote™ 4099 Instrument Mics, which they use, SHEL recently took the d:facto II Vocal Microphone on the road for concerts in Denver, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles and are now on tour in Europe visiting Ireland and the UK.

grandMA2 Locks and Reloads with Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley National Tour

Country artists Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley have Locked and Reloaded and grandMA2s along for the ride. Their 33-show national Locked and Reloaded Tour uses two grandMA2 light consoles to control about a hundred moving lights on a complex, multi-level set. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor for MA Lighting in North America.

“We wanted the production design to give us the opportunity to create different moods,” says Chris Lisle, Nashville-based production designer for the tour. “We have a lot of moving pieces. There’s a big wall of light for punch for the rock sets and some circular trusses for the moodier songs.”

Lisle had wanted to use grandMA2s “for years,” and programmer Scott Chmielewski suggested he try them for the tour. “It’s a very user friendly and functional console, yet it does so much,” says Lisle. “It’s very deep; it has so many layers, and you can get really detailed with it. One of the things I love is its ease of networking. I’ve had problems with that on other consoles.

“The grandMA2s effects engine is also amazing,” he adds. “There are so many things you can do so easily. It’s mind blowing! I had no idea we could do so many effects so simply.”

Lisle notes that Chimeleski uses the consoles for DMX merging. “There are so many functions, and some of the macros we’ve created are amazing. You can create the console you want, lay it out the way you need it to be. It was a great opportunity for me to be able to sit down with a programmer like Scott who knows the board so well. It was super easy to learn, but there’s so much more I can learn going forward.”

Lisle is impressed with the grandMA2s performance and robustness on the Locked and Reloaded Tour. “It’s a fantastic piece of equipment that’s also very reliable,” he attests.

During May and June it will visit the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol; Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge; SAE, Glasgow; Alchemea College, London; LIPA, Liverpool; Futureworks, Manchester and City University, Birmingham.

Acclaimed mastering engineer Aidan Foley (Foo Fighters, Van Morrison, U2) will speak at the first session in Dublin, where he will reveal the tricks and techniques he used on the hugely successful Dead Can Dance album, Anastasis – a European No.1 hit that achieved over 250,000 in sales last year. Aidan will discuss his approach to the Vinyl, CD and other digital releases during the project and the challenges he had to overcome in and out of the studio.

Other confirmed speakers include Simon Little (Jessie Jay, Quantic), Jake Gosling, (Ed Sheeran, Paloma Faith, One Direction) and Award-winning mastering engineer Many Parnell, whose recent projects include Bjork, Feist and Frightened Rabbit.

Graham Boswell, Prism Sound’s Sales Director, says: “As a company, Prism Sound is dedicated to providing training initiatives to the producers and engineers of tomorrow. Music recording students need the opportunity to learn skills that are applicable to the industries in which they will ultimately work. They also need to know about the equipment they will regularly come into contact with. These seminars are all taking place at educational establishments that offer courses in music recording and broadcast engineering because we recognise that this is where the producers and engineers of the future are currently getting their grounding. The aim is to give them – and any industry professional who wants to brush up on their skills – the chance to discuss new techniques, demo cutting-edge equipment and software and learn first-hand from the experiences of our guest speakers.”
