St. Andrews Lutheran Church Chooses Earthworks Choir Microphones

Maple Grove, MN, April 23, 2013 – Kevin Crow, Vice President of Audio Video Electronics announced that their firm has utilized 8 Earthworks ChoirMics™ in the sanctuary of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. Mr. Crow says that their firm specializes in acoustics, sound, video & stage lighting systems primarily in the house of worship market, but also works in the hospitality, corporate and education markets. “Earthworks is one of our very top choices for choir microphones in many of our church installations,” states Crow. “Earthworks is one of our strong preferences because they fit a really good niche for us.”

“Along with the customer Brad Nelson, Front of House Engineer for St. Andrews, we chose the Earthworks ChoirMics™ for the St. Andrews Church installation because they have a massive choir,” explains Crow. “Their sanctuary seats over 1200 people. Even though their choir may project well into the room, we still like to mic the choir because it really fills the room. We positioned the ChoirMics on the various sections of the choir (soprano, alto, tenor & bass). In this large sanctuary, the ChoirMics are virtually invisible from the congregation,” says Crow. “Even when photographed with a telephoto lens the ChoirMics are hard to see.”

“The main reason we prefer the Earthworks microphones, is because of their sound quality and gain-before-feedback. The sound quality that we obtain from the Earthworks sound element is just unbelievable,” says Crow. “There is also a giant organ very close to the ChoirMics, which is the largest organ in the state of Minnesota. It is a miracle that we can get as much sound from the choir with the organ and mics placed where they are. It is a real testimony to the exceptional quality of the Earthworks microphones.”

“After this installation was completed, church leaders and members comment on the improvement of the choir sound quality on nearly a weekly basis. These comments are typically: ‘The music sounded good before, but sounds so much better now.’ The improvement in sound quality is due to the use of quality microphones and a quality sound system working together. There are Earthworks ChoirMics into a Midas Legend mixer through an L-Acoustics Kiva/Kilo loudspeaker system. It’s like having all the best ingredients, you only need good music and this church has that for days,” says Crow.

“We end up recommending Earthworks microphones all the time, because they are the only high definition microphones in the industry. In addition they also offer more gain-before-feedback than any other microphones that I have ever seen. We use the Earthworks FlexMic™ podium microphones all the time, which is hand-down the best podium microphone in the world. I would also like to add that St. Andrews church also has an Earthworks PianoMic™, and they really love it.”

Crow concludes, “The use of Earthworks High Definition Microphones™ enables us to design and install very impressive sound installations. Needless to say, we are great fans of Earthworks microphones.”

AudioXperts 4TV 2112 is the Recipient of the Prestigious 2013 red dot Award for Product Design and Innovation

BOSTON, Mass. – April 23, 2013 – AudioXperts, the luxury audio brand committed to delivering unique audio solutions and “exceeding expectations”, has been honored as the recipient of the prestigious red dot award for product design for the 4TV 2112 Audio Entertainment Console.

Since 1955, the red dot award’s international panel of renowned experts has recognized products for their innovation and industrial design. AudioXperts’ 4TV 2112 Audio Entertainment Console will join an elite family of previous winners that includes the Range Rover Evoque by Land Rover, the Apple® iPadTM 2, the Dassault Falcon 2000S transcontinental jet, the Geograph Rainforest Watch by Les Ateliers Louis Moinet among others.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this highly coveted design and innovation award,” said Eli Harary, president of AudioXperts “It’s especially gratifying to our entire team because the 4TV 2112 is the very first product that our new luxury audio brand has introduced to the market.”

The 4TV 2112 Audio Entertainment Console was amongst 4,600-plus entries in pursuit of the “red dot award: product design 2013”. The sophisticated, yet elegant design of the 4TV 2112 impressed the discriminating panel of 37 judges and allowed the product to stand out among the rest.

Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot, has pointed out that strong design competence and economic success nowadays go hand in hand: “The winners of the ‘red dot award: product design 2013’ are the protagonists of a highly developed design culture and design industry. These days it is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish between well-designed products. It is often only in the details that the special qualities become apparent. However, those product creations that pass the test before the critical eyes of the international red dot jury will not disappear into the crowd and will be able to fend off global competition.”

AudioXperts will be honored at the official red dot award ceremony on July 1, 2013 and will be featured as part of the “Design on stage – winner red dot award: product design 2013” exhibition at the red dot design museum in Essen, Germany.

David Rosenthal, Keyboardist, Synth Programmer and Billy Joel’s Musical Director Finds HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle Essential Live and In the Studio

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – David Rosenthal has enjoyed a remarkably successful career as a keyboardist, synth programmer, orchestrator, and touring musician and that doesn’t begin to cover it all. Rosenthal is also Billy Joel’s musical director, a role that recently has him performing worldwide at events like 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief and the upcoming New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival 2013. Besides working with Billy Joel for the past 20 years, he’s also worked with Bruce Springsteen, Enrique Iglesias, Elton John, Cyndi Lauper and many others, provided synth programming and musical direction for the Tony-winning Broadway Musical “Movin’ Out” and runs Sonic Adventures Studio in New Jersey. The sonic adventure continues with Rosenthal’s recent discovery of HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle reverb/effects plug-in.

“I’ve been a Lexicon user since the early ’90s,” said Rosenthal. “In fact I was one of the people who contributed customized Music FX presets for the PCM 80 when they used to sell preset sound cards. I’ve used products like the Lexicon PCM 80, 81, 90, 91 and 480L and they’ve always been a big part of my sound.”
Rosenthal has always embraced the latest musical technologies, but it wasn’t until recently that he felt that computers and software had reached the point where he could forego his outboard effects. He used to use banks of keyboards and racks of outboard effects processors because it was the only way he could get the sounds he needed live. It’s only been in the past year or so that computer technology has gotten to the point where Rosenthal needed it to be.

“The tech has turned the corner, thanks to resources like laptops with 16 GB of memory, better synth plug-ins, solid-state drives, 64-bit operating systems and plug-ins like the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle. Now everything can keep up, I have enough processing power and polyphonic capability and everything responds like a musical instrument.” He hasn’t given up his cocoon of keyboards entirely, he still uses multiple keyboards live because he doesn’t want to map a lot of sounds on a limited number of keyboards. “When I’m on stage I want to think about playing, not about program changes and which buttons I have to push during a song.”

“The Lexicon PCM Total Bundle doesn’t sound like it’s close to the ‘Lexicon sound’ – it is the Lexicon sound,” Rosenthal emphasized. “It has the smooth reverb tails and that beautiful natural decay, and its algorithms don’t ‘smear’ the initial attack of my keyboards.” In live performances Rosenthal primarily uses a tweaked sound based on the Concert Hall algorithm that he calls “Bright Keyboard Hall,” finding that it gives depth and spatiality to his keyboard sounds without getting too boomy in an arena or large hall.

In the studio, Rosenthal is still exploring the sonic possibilities of the PCM Total Bundle. “Other reverb plug-ins have fallen short for me and I have always used Lexicon hardware units for my important studio projects – until now. I also like the fact that the PCM Total Bundle gives me 100-percent total recall of my settings, which is an incredible timesaver in the studio and assures I’ll never lose any of my customized sounds.”

“The PCM Total Bundle is exactly what I expected a Lexicon plug-in to sound like,” Rosenthal concluded. “Nothing else sounds like a Lexicon reverb, and the PCM Total Bundle gives me the same sound quality and musicality I’ve come to rely on from Lexicon that I can’t get anywhere else.”

The Lexicon PCM Total Bundle is designed to work with popular DAWs like Pro Tools and Logic, as well as with any other VST®, Audio Unit™ or RTAS®-compatible platform. Compatible with Windows® Vista, XP and 7 and Macintosh® computers, it offers 14 unique Lexicon reverbs and effects, and hundreds of finely crafted studio presets. Its intuitive user interface provides control of key parameters with a graphical real-time full-color display and flexible sonic customization capabilities.

Genelec 8040A and 8050A Monitors Help Key Code Media Bring It All Together for Univision

— Latino broadcasting giant Univision consolidates radio facilities as it converges traditional media with live streaming, and Genelec monitors provide the sonic superiority that systems designer/integrator
Key Code Media demanded —

NATICK, MA, April 22, 2013 — As part of a strategic consolidation of its radio and television properties and facilities, Spanish-language broadcaster Univision, which has the largest audience of Spanish-language television viewers in the world, is in the process of relocating several of its California-based radio and television stations into a new facility in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles, where 23 new radio studios will also be equipped to live-stream their broadcast content. And each of these production studios will be fitted with 8040A and 8050A Bi-Amplified Loudspeaker Systems from Genelec, the world’s longstanding pioneer in active monitoring. The project will be completed later this year.

“This is a huge undertaking and it needed to have the right equipment at every level,” states Tony Arratia, Account Executive for Broadcast Sales at Key Code Media, an industry leader for turnkey systems for customers in a wide range of entertainment, broadcast, corporate, educational and government production facilities, and which did the end-to-end design, consulting, engineering and integration of the new Univision facility. “Key Code Media is proud to be a dealer for many leading manufacturers of broadcast technologies, and Univision had access to virtually any kind of monitor speaker solution available. When it came to monitors for all of these new radio studios, they chose Genelec.”

Arratia says it was a combination of Genelec’s “sonic superiority,” and the fact that Genelecs and their custom mounting hardware systems made the final installations look seamless and pleasing, that won Univision’s executives and engineers over. “They did a sound test and the 8040A and 8050A speakers won hands down in that department,” Arratia says. “But the Genelecs also had the look – they fit into the rooms seamlessly. When you’re spending millions on a facility, you need more than just great performance, you need the equipment to look good, and Genelec had both of those bases covered better than any other brand of monitor. Univision saw that Genelec monitors would also produce a return on investment faster than any other brand.”

Genelec Focuses on Green Initiative in 2013 and Beyond

— With the new M Series of high-performance, environmentally sustainable active monitors and more energy efficient versions of the company’s existing product line in the coming months, Genelec pioneers new ground in the professional audio market sector —

NATICK, MA, April 18, 2013 — Since its founding 35 years ago, Genelec, the world’s longstanding pioneer in active monitoring, has consistently shown itself to be an environmentally conscious company. In 2013 and beyond, the company is reaffirming that philosophy by dedicating itself to a renewed long-term green initiative, which will see the introduction of new products and revised, more energy-efficient versions of the existing product line, in addition to other company policies. Genelec management has always strived to adhere to efficient manufacturing and shipping methods, and in fact the very concept of active monitors is at its core more energy-efficient than passive monitor/amplifier combination setups. Environmental consciousness is also a large part of the culture of Genelec’s homeland Finland, with the country commonly ranking among the world’s greenest.

Will Eggleston, Genelec Inc. Marketing Director, stated, “We believe people do care about the future of the planet, and Genelec has given serious thought about how we can more substantially participate in this philosophy and apply our acoustics and design R&D talents towards the next generation of loudspeaker products. For our new products and updated versions of existing models, as a starting point, we are focusing on ‘voltage-friendliness,’ with regards to latent power consumption as mandated by the European Union. While the scope of the mandates appears mostly consumer-driven rather than pro, Genelec made a conscious decision to apply these standards to our professional products, because in the end it is just better for the environment and the end user.”

A main component of the green initiative is the debut of the new M Series Bi-amplified Active Monitors. The highly energy-efficient M Series takes a new approach to monitor design. The primary focus in developing the new M Series was to proceed with a green mindset without sacrificing the accuracy and reliability for which Genelec has been known for the past 35 years, while offering something new and innovative for project studio customers. The first two models being introduced are the M030 and the M040 Bi-amplified Active Monitors, which employ a Natural Composite Enclosure™ (NCE™) manufactured for Genelec in Finland with wood fiber and recycled material. Another first is that the M Series models feature new class D amplifiers developed in house by Genelec’s R&D/engineering team. The class D amplifiers are highly efficient, low distortion amplifiers that operate cooler and lighter than class A/B amps. They also feature Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) with auto power-off after being idle for 30 minutes and auto power-on when a signal is detected. Automatic voltage selection allows the monitors to operate throughout the world.

In the near future, Genelec will be updating its entire existing product line with more efficient power management. Eggleston continued, “Genelec is known for sound quality, and we are in a unique position to set new standards in the audio industry in regards to power consumption. We’ve always been an environmentally conscious company, and as we roll out our updated product line, we have reinforced that commitment for a new era.”
