Matrox Launches World’s First Live Streaming Appliance Under $1000 that Simultaneously Records a Blu-ray Quality Video File—Matrox Monarch HD

Matrox® Video today announced Matrox Monarch HD™, a small, easy-to-use video streaming and recording appliance priced at just $995. Matrox Monarch HD is designed for professional video producers who need to simultaneously stream a live event and record a Blu-ray quality version for post-event editing. It overcomes the limitations of today’s content delivery networks that only allow recording and archiving at the lower quality available while streaming by providing two independent delivery channels in an integrated unit.

From any HDMI input source such as a camera or switcher, Matrox Monarch HD generates an H.264-encoded stream compliant with RTSP or RTMP protocol. While encoding the video at bitrates suitable for live streaming, Matrox Monarch HD simultaneously records a high-quality MP4 file to an SD card, a USB drive, or a network-mapped drive. Matrox Monarch HD is remotely controlled using any computer or mobile device with a web browser.

Matrox Monarch HD

“Matrox Monarch HD is the latest product that exemplifies what Matrox Video does best—provide high-quality, technologically-advanced tools for video professionals that combine multiple functions in a single cost-effective product,” said Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing at Matrox. “This is the first time that simultaneous streaming and high-quality recording can be achieved so easily and inexpensively.”

Matrox Monarch HD will be demonstrated at the 2013 NAB Show in booth SL4616, April 8-11.

Price and availability
Priced at $995 US (€799, £750) not including local taxes and delivery, Matrox Monarch HD will be available in June 2013 through a worldwide network of authorized dealers.

Visual Unity Bring Video On Demand To Turkish Viewers

Leading multimedia solutions provider Visual Unity has helped Turkish company Calinos Entertainment to deliver a complete Video on Demand service.

Based in Istanbul, Calinos Entertainment was established in 1997 as a content distribution company supplying television and film programmes to service providers and channels. With Visual Unity’s expertise, the company has now expanded its operations to deliver a Video on Demand service directly to their subscribers on any screen or connected device.

Visual Unity provided Calinos Entertainment with the technology needed to deliver its new service. The technical infrastructure is based on Visual Unity’s award-winning vuMediaTM Over the Top (OTT) content solution that allows broadcasters to manage, monetize and monitor delivery of content to multiscreens.

Tomas Petru, CEO of Visual Unity, says: ““Visual Unity won this contract on the basis of our proven expertise in multiscreen integration. With over 20 years’ experience in architecting, building and technically supporting linear broadcast to multiscreen solutions we demonstrated to Calinos Entertainment our ability to successfully deliver VoD solutions similar to customers such as voyo.cz, cinema.cz and TopFun.”

Visual Unity’s vuMedia™ platform supports comprehensive VoD services and integrates with billing and CRM processes. For this project, Visual Unity provided a content management system with GUI and API access, DMR protection, software to play back and control video content on the web, analytics, delivery and support for mobile devices.

In addition, Visual Unity also helped the broadcaster to build a feature-rich VoD portal that contains thousands of films, dramas and popular television programmes. This Cloud-based service allows Calinos Entertainment to publish its content online, thus alleviating the need to build an expensive, in-house and resource-intensive media library.

“Monetization is not just about selling your content – it is about building business awareness and a communication strategy around your brand,” adds Gabriel Dusil, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Strategy at Visual Unity. “We are confident that by using our proven vuMedia™ technology Calinos Entertainment can now deliver a cutting-edge viewing experience to its audiences on any screen or connected device.”

Electrosonic Supports the Crystal, Siemens’ Sustainable Cities Exhibition in London

When the Crystal, a sustainable cities initiative by the global electronics and electrical engineering powerhouse Siemens, opened at London’s Royal Victoria Dock, it showcased what’s billed as “the world’s largest exhibition dedicated to the future of cities.” Designed and produced by Event Communications, the exhibition features extensive audio-visual systems engineered and installed by Electrosonic.

The Crystal serves as home to Siemens’ Center of Competence – Cities, a team of multi-disciplinary urban experts. The 2,000 sq.m. (21,500 sq. ft.) interactive exhibition guides visitors through the urban infrastructure of the future by examining the possibilities for sustainable mobility, building technologies, power and water supplies and healthcare.

The Forces of Change

The theme “Forces of Change” is announced when visitors enter the exhibition and are directed to the mezzanine level. There, an immersive black box theatre uses ten DLP projectors to create a dynamic presentation displaying the challenges of Demographic Change, Urbanisation and Climate Change in short video loops.

The presentation’s unique display surface covers an end wall and carpets most of the floor. The projected images are sourced, blended and warped to fill the screen without distortion and are accompanied by a powerful multi-channel soundtrack.

Outside the black box theatre, three touchscreen exhibits further explore the challenging Forces of Change. In the Urbanisation exhibit, four 55-inch touchscreen LCDs in portrait mode are sandwiched between poured concrete slabs. The Climate Change exhibit uses four embedded 32-inch touchscreen LCDs also in portrait format. The Demographic Change exhibit has a three-sided configuration with widescreen LCD touchscreens comprising two of the sides.

Traversing The Zones

Visitors receive a RFID-tagged card for the exhibition. The idea is that visitors collect a “crystal” at each exhibit, which appears on the tag reader as illuminated coloured indicators showing which zones the visitors have already seen.

One of the first stops is the Creating Cities zone where the “Cities Icon” takes centre stage. Crafted from LED panels, it displays a series of images received from the control room. Other exhibits in the zone include the “Understanding Cities” interactive display and the multi-user “City Game” whose four 24-inch LCD touch terminals are capped by 55-inch repeater displays.

The Safe and Sound zone looks at protecting the city and addresses topics such as fire prevention, rapid response to incidents and crowd control. The “Fire Prevention” exhibit structure, composed of ArtBoard modules provided by Light Emissions, features giant, cut-out lettering on the modules spelling words related to the security theme, such as trust, peace of mind, shield and care. Three interactive terminals enable visitors to discover the causes of fires; visitors’ responses modify a big, curved low-resolution LED display of flames.

The Smart Buildings zone is dominated by a cube-shaped space in which three sides display five-metre wide projected images. In front of each is a 40-inch LCD touchscreen, which invites visitors to create their own sustainable buildings and watch them constructed on the displays. Another exhibit shows what makes the Crystal a sustainable building by using two touchscreen displays and an array of LED indicators to reveal real time statistics about the Crystal’s rainwater recycling, heat pump efficiency and solar energy performance.

The Clean and Green zone features a dramatic centerpiece composed of a living wall of vegetation. Because the wall keeps the plants sufficiently wet, Electrosonic provided two IP65-rated LCD touchscreens to ensure reliable operation. The Water is Life zone includes displays about harvesting rainwater, desalination and recycling waste water. The Health Life zone focuses on staying healthy, personalised medicine and reducing healthcare costs.

The main interactive in the Go Electric zone is a spectacular gesture-operated exhibit, which includes a Tesla coil spark display within a Faraday cage. The Keep Moving zone emphasises the role of electrically-powered transport in a number of LCD and interactive displays.

A Peek Into the City of the Future

The Future Life zone, the finale of the exhibition, is centered on an optimistic panoramic show “Enter the City of the Future,” which shows how cities could look and operate if ideas presented in the Crystal were to be applied. The show is displayed on a nine-metre curved screen by three DLP projectors with short-throw zoom lenses.

This zone also includes terminals where visitors can review their tour based on the data accumulated using their RFID card. The “What Do Today’s City Leaders Think?” exhibit offers comments from city leaders from around the world.

Both the introduction and finale shows use 7th Sense servers as the image sources. They provide both synchronous multi-channel replay and image “blending and bending”. All other sources are DVS products: DVS Blade players for simple video replay and DVS video computers for the interactives. They are mounted in twelve 19-inch racks in a dedicated control room.

Medialon Showmaster has a comprehensive control interface and scheduler for full control of individual exhibits, along with global power up/down facilities to enhance the building’s green energy credentials. The Showmaster is supplemented by a Stumpfl Show Controller.

The Crystal was designed by Wilkinson Eyre, Architects with Pringle Brandon the interior/fit out architect. Exhibit fabrication was by The Hub; content for the AV and interactive exhibits was created by ISO, All of Us, Clay, Squint Opera, Spirit Link, B12 and Siemens Software. “Forces of Change” was produced by Event Communications; the “City Game” was developed by Siemens. Exhibition lighting design was by DHA Design.

VISTA Installs Front Porch Digital’s Migration and Content Storage Management System

Front Porch Digital’s CSM and Migration Suite Enables VISTA to Offer Online Archiving and Content Management Services

LOUISVILLE, Colo. — April 5, 2013 — Front Porch Digital, the global leader in cloud-based content storage management (CSM) solutions, today announced that global media solutions service provider VISTA Worldlink (formerly VISTA Satellite Communications) has installed a complete CSM and migration suite that includes an advanced DIVArchive(R) CSM system, a DIVAdirector(R) media asset manager (MAM), a SAMMAsolo migration appliance, and access to the LYNXSM cloud-based disaster recovery (DR) and media asset storage service. With the new system in place, VISTA now includes online archival service and management in its portfolio of services available to clients around the world.

“Many of our clients had been asking about digital archiving, disaster recovery, and tapeless workflows, so we decided to put a system in place that would give them a customizable way to organize and manage their asset libraries online,” said VISTA President Roy Liemer. “By offering content storage management to our clients, we’re taking something that has typically been a capital purchase and turning it into an economical service. Our service supports all of a customer’s locations without the expense of multiple location-specific capital investments. With secure access to VISTA, users have instant online access to their content from anywhere in the world.”

VISTA serves a wide variety of clients with many different types of content and differing CSM requirements. Using Front Porch Digital’s CSM solution, VISTA’s service enables the customer to digitize and archive each individual asset in a single pass, thus preserving the value of the content and the original asset. The SAMMA process moves the unprotected content from videotape to digital files, creating preservation and intermediate (edit) masters, as well as proxy and XML metadata files. SAMMAsolo delivers the files to DIVArchive for management and protection and, at the same time, delivers proxies and content metadata to DIVAdirector for online access.

“A lot of what we do is time-sensitive, so it’s important to do it as quickly as possible,” Liemer said. “Whereas before it would have taken multiple passes to process a given piece of content, now we can process content more efficiently — whether it’s a live event or recorded material — because the system performs multiple processes simultaneously and automatically, which saves us both time and manpower and meets our clients’ needs for urgency.”

The DIVAdirector MAM offers a browser-based search interface for keyword searching of client archives. Search results are viewable using the archive proxies, allowing authorized users to see the video before ordering restoration. Clients order the content for restoration via DIVAdirector, which triggers DIVArchive to deliver the restored content to FTP sites or to specific areas within VISTA for copying to hard drives or other physical media.

With LYNX, VISTA offers clients an additional level of library protection via a hosted, off-site content protection service. Content that has been migrated by VISTA’s SAMMAsolo and managed by its DIVArchive CSM can be automatically replicated to LYNX, or VISTA can ship data tapes to the LYNX site. Depending on client requirements, VISTA can also use LYNX and DIVAdirector together as the access and distribution point for client content.

Front Porch Digital’s CSM and migration suite met all of VISTA’s requirements for a complete, robust CSM solution — the most important of these requirements being reliability, service, and scalability. The CSM system has the flexibility to integrate with VISTA’s existing MAM system, and it provides a customizable, intuitive interface with processes and actions that are familiar to clients. The technology is backward-compatible and flexible enough to evolve and grow with VISTA’s needs.

“Front Porch Digital has supplied VISTA with an end-to-end solution that has allowed it to expand its business into content preservation and library management — a new endeavor,” said Mike Knaisch, president and CEO of Front Porch Digital. “VISTA started with the cost-effective suite to launch its service, knowing that our solutions can expand to any size required to match growth.”

Front Porch Digital will display its products at the 2013 NAB Show in booths SU3602 and SU3605. More information about Front Porch Digital products is available at fpdigital.com.

The spacious and inviting Christie booth also features the Entertainment Solutions Innovation Theatre presenting a groundbreaking comparison between 3 F.L. and 14 F.L. while emphasizing the benefits of higher brightness 3D.

Christie Broadcast Set Highlights Latest Trends
The Christie booth also features the ultramodern Christie broadcast set with a concave backdrop of 138 Christie® MicroTiles®. The 48 center tiles feature Christie Interactivity Kit and Christie Jumpstart while two portrait-mounted 55-inch Christie FHD551-X flat panels with damage-resistant, optically bonded Corning® Gorilla® Glass frame the sides of the fully integrated exhibit. All display technology is mounted using rp Visuals custom-mounted display solutions with two Christie Spyder X20 video processors managing the content.

Utilizing thin and lightweight Gorilla Glass, Christie is the only brand to offer a bonded solution that retains the LCD flat panel’s sleek, narrow-bezel design without increasing the image-to-image gap between panels.

Christie Business Products Zone
Located in the Business Products zone is the new Christie LW720 3LCD projector. Building on the successful Christie LW650, the Christie LW720 is a compact and affordable LCD projector with 7200 ANSI lumens and 2500:1 contrast ratio for high brightness and deep, rich blacks. The single-lamp LW720 has one of the largest lens shift ranges*, giving customers the ability to place the projector in a variety of locations in museums, houses of worship, large conference rooms and rental/staging applications.

Also at NAB for the first time is the Christie FHD551-W outdoor flat panel. Introduced earlier this year, the rugged 55-inch Christie FHD551-W with optically-bonded glass is a professional grade full HD (1920 x 1080 resolution) solution for a wide range of applications including outdoor sporting events and venues, architectural applications, entertainment parks, the hospitality and resort industry, transportation, and other outdoor environments not usually applicable with standard LCD panels.

Following on the heels of a successful launch late last year, Christie is pleased to showcase the Christie DHD775-E and Christie DHD550-G 1-chip DLP® projectors. Fast becoming go-to solutions for displays in board rooms, classrooms and meeting spaces in government facilities, both the E Series and G Series comes with native HD resolution models and easily connect to today’s computers either wired or via wireless connectivity option. The Christie DWU775-E features an optional dual processor warp module for blending and warping images, color matching and an optional stacking system – making it ideal for applications requiring geometric adjustments and/or multi-projector setups and rental and staging applications. For fixed applications, the Christie DHD550-G provides exceptional image quality boasting 5000 lumens from a single mercury-lamp design. With high brightness and better price/performance than other projectors in its class, the Christie G Series is an excellent choice for myriad display applications where value and image quality are deciding factors.

The Business Products Zone also includes two Christie Roadster HD20K-J 3-chip DLP® projectors demonstrating their ability to flawlessly blend and warp images.
