New GigaCore Range of Gigabit Ethernet Switches from LUMINEX Network Intelligence Makes InfoComm Debut

LUMINEX Network Intelligence, a Belgium-based developer of lighting control, pro audio and video data distribution equipment for the entertainment industry, makes its first appearance at InfoComm showing its new range of Gigabit Ethernet switches with updated web-based user interface. The GigaCore line will be exhibited in LUMINEX booth #561 at InfoComm13, June 8-14 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

A young, ambitious company that has already made a name for itself in Europe, LUMINEX has designed the GigaCore line to handle the most demanding sound , video and lighting installations. This next-generation family of Ethernet switches has three models – GigaCore 12, GigaCore 14R and GigaCore 16Xt. They meet and support all industry protocols and offer a user-friendly experience with an industry-specific outlook and optimized defaults. The products come with a built-in redundancy system providing a reliable and easy-to-set-up backbone for users’ networks.

The GigaCore line will showcase its updated web-based user interface at InfoComm. It enables users to easily assign the network ports to different groups or segments on the network (protocol isolation), automatically detect links between GigaCore units and provide network switch status.

The GigaCore Ethernet switches are optimized with a very fast recovery time for any link failures delivering seamless operation for sound, video and lighting protocols running over these links. The products currently support audio over Ethernet protocols such as Dante, Ethersound and Q-Lan with a low jitter, and lighting over Ethernet protocols such as Art-Net, ETCNet2, MA-Net and Streaming ACN (sACN).

Since their introduction last year, the GigaCore line has been used in many applications and has been recommended as a third-party solution by leading industry manufacturers.

The GigaCore range offers common features on the three models, such as 12 Gigabit ports on shielded Neutrik Ethercon ports, making it a rugged, environmentally-friendly range. All devices feature wire-speed layer 2 switching, port status, three LEDs per port (PoE, RLinkX, Link/Speed) and four status LEDs (OK, PoE, RLinkX, Power).
All models come with a built-in redundancy system enabled on all ports, called RLinkX, providing a reliable and easy to set up backbone for the user’s network.
The range also offers the group function, a unique Luminex solution, providing a true user-friendly way to create subnets within your network.
A PoE supply unit, allowing for the feed of PoE compliant devices from the front ports, is available as an option.

GigaCore 12 embeds all the common features of the range.

GigaCore 14R adds two SFP cages for fiber connections. By using fiber transceivers, users can break the limits of 100m given by copper links, and makes its links interference free. it also boasts redundant fans. It adds a backup PSU and a backup PoE supply to the list of available options.

GigaCore 16Xt extends the functionality of GigaCore 14R with four SFP cages, which allow users to create complex network topologies over the fiber link, such as mesh or ring. Its feature set includes a front-end display for basic configuration, avoiding the usage of a computer to set your network, and reducing your setup time. A backup PSU and a backup PoE supply are also optional.

POWERSOFT INSPIRES LOUDSPEAKER DESIGN WITH M-FORCE TECHNOLOGY

INFOCOMM 2013, Orlando, FL, May 2013 — Powersoft will launch the ultimate paradigm shift in low frequency applications at InfoComm 2013: M-Force®. After a development cycle spanning more than four years, M-Force was publicly unveiled at the recent PL+S Show in Frankfurt, generating high levels of interest and excitement from the entire professional audio industry.

Designed specifically for loudspeaker manufacturers and powered by Powersoft proprietary Switch Mode amplification, M-Force is an innovative linear motor characterized by a moving magnet and genuine push-pull behavior. M-Force integrates perfectly with other technologies developed by Powersoft such as Differential Pressure Control (DPC®) already used in subwoofers using IPAL® technology.

The approach to converting a signal from electrical to acoustic has not been fundamentally changed since the beginning of acoustic design” comments Powersoft’s R&D Director Claudio Lastrucci.  “With M-Force we have created an alternative method of acoustic transduction, by combining the latest technologies in the domains of power amplification, magnetic materials and advanced real-time digital signal processing. The result is a device that considerably improves the electrical to acoustic conversion efficiency at a system level, allowing the true exploitation of the native qualities of switch mode amplification. This new approach brings many advantages – most significantly providing a flexibility and sound quality experience that will set a new standard in low frequency speaker design.”

M-Force is currently being tested in the field in collaboration with a select group of loudspeaker manufactures and live sound engineers. The goal is to offer a “system oriented” package for selected loudspeaker manufacturers to produce unsurpassed low frequency performance: a true and complete paradigm shift from the traditional moving coil and cone.

With respect to conventional transducers, M-Force requires less power from the amplifier to produce higher sound pressure levels (SPL) with extremely low levels of distortion. Unlike conventional loudspeakers, M-Force is a genuine push-pull engine where the magnetic field interacts in a linear fashion to provide a controlled force to the moving elements. The transducer is completely free of moving electrical conductors, which in turn maximizes the efficiency and reliability of the whole system. The extremely high motor strength, typically one order of magnitude above conventional technologies, yields to a natural, controlled sound and negligible power compression at the highest sound levels. The extreme displacement capabilities allow an increase in SPL in relation to the size ratio of the cabinet design. By merging the unique parameters of the transducer and the amplifier output stage, the system provides unsurpassed sonic performance and efficiency.

M-Force has been designed with the environment in mind. High power efficiency, extended lifespan and with low Neodymium content, M-Force fits perfectly into Powersoft’s ‘Green Audio Power’ philosophy.

M-Force is a worldwide patented technology.

POWERSOFT AND SOUND MEDIA ROCK THE RED CARPET AT 2013 BILLBOARD LATIN MUSIC AWARDS

Coral Gables, FL, May 2013 – Powersoft and Hollywood, FL-based professional audio and lighting company Sound Media rocked the red carpet at the 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards, presented by State Farm and broadcast live on Telemundo on April 25. Sound Media provided audio, including Powersoft K10 and K2 amplifiers, for the show’s red carpet stage, which featured live music performances between interviews with the many celebrities arriving for the awards presentation at the University of Miami’s BankUnited Center.

The red carpet arrival show, “La Alfombra de los Premios Billboard Presentado por State Farm,” included live performances by Puerto Rican duo Dyland & Lenny as well as PeeWee, the “Latin sweetheart,” on a stage set up outside the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, where the televised awards ceremony was held. Sound Media flew four JBL VerTec VRX932LA two-way line array speakers per side on the stage and also supplied four of its proprietary Megaforce Technologies Xtreme (XS-218) subs, ground-stacked two per side. Powersoft K10 and K2 amplifiers fitted with optional KDSP and KAESOP cards powered the stage PA system.

Sound Media, which has provided sound reinforcement, lighting and AV services in Florida and the Caribbean for the past 15 years, originally purchased nine K10 and eight K2 amplifiers in 2011. Lennox Foster, president of Sound Media, has nothing but praise for the Powersoft products. “Where should I start?” he says. “The first thing that is most noticeable about the Powersoft amplifiers is the compact size, the light weight and the low power draw.”

All seventeen of Sound Media’s Powersoft amps are fitted with optional KDSP and KAESOP cards, enabling control, management and monitoring of the networked system via Powersoft’s Armonía Pro Audio Suite™ software. “We’ve noticed that it has very high quality processing capabilities compared to several other amps in this category. We’ve definitely seen and heard a difference,” reports Foster. “The beauty of it is that you just hook up Armonía, deploy the network to all the amplifiers and load the presets. Armonía works flawlessly for us.”

The 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards featured performances by Don Omar, the big winner on the night with ten awards, as well as Maná, Marc Anthony, Daddy Yankee, Romeo Santos, Juan Luis Guerra and many others. The telecast was co-hosted by Ana Bárbara (“The Queen of Grupero music”), telenovela star Juan Soler and TV personality Daniel Sarcos. The awards show was the grand finale of the four-day Billboard Latin Music Conference in Miami.

Sound Media is no stranger to major celebrity events, according to Foster. “We do a lot of high profile social events. For example, we do the Florida governor’s press conferences. We work for companies like Coca-Cola and Amgen.” Past events have also included the Winter Music Conference, the BCS FedEx Orange Bowl 75th Anniversary Gala and the ShowBoats International Awards show.

Firehouse Productions Rocks the Nokia Theatre LA LIVE at 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony with HARMAN’s JBL Loudspeakers and Crown Amplifiers

LOS ANGELES, California – The 28th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held on the west coast for the first time in 20 years at the Nokia Theatre LA LIVE in Los Angeles. This year’s inductees included Public Enemy, Heart, Albert King, Randy Newman, Rush and Donna Summer, with Lou Adler and Quincy Jones each receiving an Ahmet Ertegun non-performer award. Sound for this year’s ceremony featured more than 50 of HARMAN’s JBL VERTEC® line array loudspeakers powered by Crown I-Tech HD Series amplifiers.

Red Hook, New York-based sound contractor Firehouse Productions had the Nokia Theatre’s impressive house JBL VERTEC sound system at its disposal, which includes 14 VERTEC VT4889 fullsize line array loudspeakers per side for the main left and right clusters and six VT4889 loudspeakers per side for left and right outfill. To pump out the low end, 22 VT4880A fullsize flown subwoofers are arranged in cardioid configuration, along with eight VT4880A subs per side stacked at the left and right sides of the stage in a cardioid arrangement. The standard house system at Nokia Theater also includes six VT4887A subcompact line array loudspeakers for front fill and even JBL AC2212/00 plus six PD5212/64 loudspeakers for loge and mezzanine delays, respectively.

For the Induction Ceremony, Firehouse Productions added three more hangs of six VT4886 subcompact line array elements each for left, center and right balcony delay clusters and additional VT4886 enclosures for distributed front fill. Audio networking and signal processing was provided by BSS Audio Soundweb London components.

Firehouse has provided the sound for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony before, but this was the first time the company did the event in a proper theater. According to Mark Dittmar, Firehouse’s lead design and integration engineer, Firehouse immediately benefited from a space with good acoustics and a world-class PA system already in place. However, he noted, “With this being rock and roll’s biggest awards night, we wanted a system that would completely blow peoples’ minds for the bands, but maintain good intelligibility for the speeches.” Knowing the Nokia Theatre LA LIVE was already equipped with VERTEC gave Dittmar a feeling of confidence going in, having used VERTEC line arrays for more than a decade for their superior sound quality.

Dittmar has depended on Crown amplifiers since Firehouse Productions began and finds that the I-Tech HD Series offers power and flexibility he can’t achieve with other products. I-Tech HD amplifiers were deployed for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies to power the additional VERTEC arrays, along with the original Crown I-Tech amplifiers which power the house PA.

“One of our favorite aspects about Crown is the ability to build a custom library of presets that enable us to control any speaker in our inventory with the proper power and optimize their EQ, delay and other parameters,” Dittmar stated. “In particular, the inclusion of the newest VERTEC V5 preset tunings in the Crown I-Tech HD Series amps really took the performance of the loudspeakers beyond anything we were able to achieve before in terms of coverage, coherence, tonal balance and overall clarity.”

Thunder Audio Gears Up For Summer Festival Season with HARMAN’s JBL VTX Series Line Arrays

The Thunder Audio team (pictured left to right): Paul Owen, Vice President; Tony Villarreal, President; and Greg Snyder, Business Development Manager.

NORTHRIDGE, California – It’s the start of the summer festival season, and tour sound provider Thunder Audio is thinking big, with an inventory that includes more than 50 HARMAN’s JBL VTX Series V25 line array loudspeakers, dozens of S28 and G28 subwoofers and enough Crown amplifiers to shake a stadium—how about 98 Crown I-Tech HD Series I-Tech 12000 HD amplifiers for one gig alone? Thunder Audio will be providing the audio for the Movement Electronic Music Festival, the Faster Horses Festival and the Electric Forest Music Festival and tours for Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company and Marilyn Manson with Alice Cooper.

“This summer is shaping up to be an extremely busy one for us,” noted Greg Snyder, Business Development Manager for Thunder Audio. “We are using the JBL VTX Series on all of these festivals and tours because we feel that it is the best suited for a multitude of reasons.”

The Movement Electronic Music Festival will take place in Hart Plaza in Detroit on Memorial Day weekend and will feature more than 100 of the genre’s biggest artists including Deadmau5, Carl Craig, Moby and more. Thunder Audio will outfit the main Red Bull Music Academy stage with 18 V25 fullsize line array elements per side and four hangs of nine S28 subwoofers on the left and right of the stage, along with six V25 loudspeakers per side for outfill. Sixteen G28 ground-stacked subs will be deployed in a cardioid configuration for front fill, and side fills will include two S28 subs with two V25 loudspeakers on top. The system will be driven by a total of 98 Crown I-Tech 12000 HD amplifiers and connected through dbx DriveRack 4800 loudspeaker management systems via JBL HiQnet Performance Manager™ software.

Rothbury, Michigan’s Electric Forest outdoor music festival (June 27–30) will feature performers in the jam band and electronic music genres including The String Cheese Incident, Pretty Lights, Passion Pit and nearly 100 other artists. For this diverse musical lineup, Thunder Audio will provide 16 V25 line array elements per side for the main left and right hangs and out-hangs of nine V25’s per side, complemented by 12 S28 and six G28 subs per side, powered by 72 I-Tech 12000 HD amps with dbx DriveRack 4800.

The Faster Horses Festival is a 3-day country music and camping festival to be held in Brooklyn, Michigan on July 19–21. The featured artists include ACM Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley and Jason Aldean who will be joined by Kix Brooks, Florida Georgia Line and many others. The main stage system will include 18 V25 loudspeakers per side, with 12 V25’s flown per side for outfills and 12 JBL VERTEC® VT4888 midsize line array elements used for center and front fill. Twelve G28 ground-stacked subwoofers, 98 Crown I-Tech 12000 HD amps and dbx 4800 processing complete the system lineup.

Marilyn Manson and Alice Cooper will be livening up the summer tour scene with dates from late May through the end of June with an all-VTX system featuring two hangs of 14 V25’s per side and nine S28’s per side on the ground, all driven by 22 Crown I-Tech 12000 HD amplifiers per side. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company will also be hitting the road this summer and they’ll be packing a VTX system with two left and right main towers with 14 V25 loudspeakers each, along with two out-hangs of eight V25’s each, eight ground-stacked S28 subs per side and 22 Crown I-Tech 12000 HD powering each side.

“One of reasons we’ve used VTX for the past year is the sheer horsepower of the speakers and subs,” Snyder noted. “The extended low-end response of the S28 and G28 is incredible and the clarity of the V25 both outdoors and indoors rises above any other line array out there.” Snyder finds that the 15-inch woofers in the V25 make “a world of difference” and that the capability to change its crossover points from 80Hz to 60Hz enables Thunder Audio to optimize a VTX-based system for rock, electronic, country, jazz or any other type of music.

“After more than a year in the trenches using JBL VTX at a diverse number of events, I feel that VTX is a system that has established itself as something that’s going to set the standard for a long time,” Snyder concluded.

HARMAN (www.HARMAN.com) designs, manufactures, and markets a wide range of audio, lighting and infotainment solutions for the automotive, consumer, and professional markets. It is a recognized world leader across its customer segments with premium brands including AKG®, Harman Kardon®, Infinity®, JBL®, Lexicon®, and Mark Levinson®, and leading-edge connectivity, safety and audio technologies. UDC Raptor Embedded Control Server Now Shipping from HRS Control

High Resolution Systems is now shipping UDC Pro ECS-Raptor, a UDC Pro Embedded Control Server designed for permanent AV installs. Raptor will be showcased in High Resolution Systems’ booth at InfoComm13, June 8-14 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando booth # 4089.

Raptor teams up with the company’s popular UDC software to offer a cost-effective, stable hardware/software solution for long-term installations in a wide range of environments. A custom Linux embedded server, Raptor significantly lowers costs to users over full-blown Windows servers and comes with a free version of UDC software so customers can build their workflow configuration with UDC software, load it onto Raptor, test and run their UDC configuration.

“We expect most customers will pay for an upgrade to UDC Pro software, which allows them to send all their commands from UDC software to their Windows computer before loading onto Raptor,” notes Drew Taylor at HRS Control.

Raptor supports the same user interfaces as UDC software: iPad touch control with the HRS Control Pro iOS app available in Apple’s App Store; the HRS Control Pro app for any Windows tablet; in-wall mount touchscreen and button solutions; Android tablets; and web servers. Any device with a browser can act as a controller.

Raptor comes with an Ethernet connection to the device network plus two USB ports for accessories and button control panels. It occupies 1RU in height and one-half of a rack in width and ships with an optional rack shelf for space-saving rack mounting.

Raptor’s first installation saw one system dedicated to an executive briefing room, which needed extensive device control, and a second unit filling the needs of the rest of the facility. “Even with two Raptors, this was still a very cost-effective solution for the integrator,” Taylor reports.
