New Broadcast Pix Version 3.5 Software Brings Cloud-Based Content to Live Productions

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ today announced its new Version 3.5 software, which brings the cloud-based file and data access of its award-winning Flint™ integrated production system to its Mica™ and Granite™ systems. The software upgrade connects any system to Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive, or any cloud-based resource for access to graphics, animations, and clips during live productions. V3.5 also provides access to Twitter, RSS feeds, and cloud-based databases for live updates to on-air graphics. The new software will be demonstrated at InfoComm 2013 (Booth 2528), which runs June 10-12 in Orlando, Fla.

Access to cloud-based content is becoming more important in today’s live video production environment. Using Fluent Watch-Folders, Broadcast Pix’s built-in ingest and content management system, V3.5 allows access to any file from a cloud-based resource, even during the middle of a live production. The system operator is alerted when a file arrives, the file’s thumbnail appears on the system monitor, and the file name appears on the control panel’s button. V3.5 includes enhanced PixMaster file management software to view and manage file metadata, such as setting files to auto-start when taken into the live show.

V3.5 also enables any Broadcast Pix system to run an enhanced family of optional Fluent Rapid CG software to connect cloud data directly to on-air graphics. New Fluent Rapid CG LT connects to Twitter and other cloud data sources, enabling the viewing audience to become part of the production. Tweets can flow directly to air or be pre-screened with a built-in management system for editing, reordering, or deleting Tweets. Specific words and users can also be automatically blocked. Fluent Rapid CG LT also enables RSS, clock, and weather feeds to flow into on-air graphics.

New Fluent Rapid CG V3 includes all the LT features plus dual-channel connectivity to local and cloud-based databases, news automation, and scoreboards. Cloud-based databases are becoming common for sports, elections, and other applications, for example, and Fluent Rapid CG V3 allows sports scores in league databases to automatically flow into on-air graphics.

Free upgrades for customers who are under service agreements, the new V3.5 software and optional Fluent Rapid CG products are now available for download in Beta versions, and are expected to be available in final versions later this month.

New WebDT Content Manager 6.0 Pro Improves User Experience and Adds New Streamlined Features

New WebDT Content Manager 6.0 Pro Improves User Experience and Adds New Streamlined Features

WCM New Content Manager Software

Dynamic Content Management Simplified

Efficient Management of Digital Signage Networks from Any Location

InfoComm, Orlando, FL & San Jose, CA – June 12, 2013 – DT Research™, Inc., an industry leader in the development of information appliances for vertical markets, today announced the release of WebDT Content Manager version 6.0 Pro, a key tool for managing a digital signage network. WebDT Content Manager (WCM) software provides inclusive tools to schedule content files and create layout designs for media displayed on digital signs. With WCM, a network manager can manage how and when content files are played on a digital signage network from any location. The new WCM 6.0 Pro streamlines operations, enhances security, and offers scalability and rich feature sets.

The newest WebDT Content Manager release, WCM 6.0 Pro, offers an improved user experience with an even more user-friendly and intuitive interface, making the process of managing digital signage content more efficient. A digital signage content manager can now edit a content playlist with single or multiple scenes using Playlist Editor, a 3-step process to publish content in a few minutes. The new calendar interface enables convenient management of playlist schedules, with drag-and-drop operation and a mini-menu to edit schedules. WCM 6.0 Pro supports a wide variety of multimedia formats, as well as built-in Widgets, real-time video-in, executable applications and remote URLs, and files can be edited and previewed in the Media Library.
The Widget Editor allows content managers to quickly create or edit content for playlists, and apply common widgets such as clock, date, time and weather to playlists directly.

The new Player tools allows a content manager to create and monitor player groups, and check the settings, download and playback status, take snapshots, and execute on/off commands for a grouped set of media players. The updated Urgent Cast feature now has three pre-set buttons to assign different Urgent Cast content to multiple player groups, and the Urgent Cast can now be in the form of a playlist or widget. When there is an urgent situation that requires immediate broadcast, clicking the preset Urgent Cast button will publish the content as defined to all target players. Another new tool with WCM 6.0 Pro is an open canvas multi-screen layout designer, with pre-loaded attributes for popular commercial display models for quick content publishing with multiple display groupings.

Beyond content management, WCM 6.0 Pro can also monitor the status of each player, track all activity, and generate reports for network reviews and advertising proof-of-play billing. Additionally, administrators can remotely update patch, restart and shut down the player appliances.

For users who work with Microsoft Active Directory, rather than creating new usernames and passwords for WCM, the data can be directly imported to WCM, including already assigned account roles and access privileges.

WebDT Content Manager software is included with purchase of WebDT digital signage single-head and multi-head hardware appliances, greatly expanding the value and deployment efficiency. Also available is the WebDT Software Development Kit (SDK) for customization and integration with third party applications.

The WCM 6.0 Pro release improves the process for a creative, timely digital signage network deployment, and adds enhanced tools for users to deliver the most dynamic and customized communications.

Clear-Com Releases New HelixNet Partyline System Linking Capability at InfoComm 2013

New Networking Function Increases Intercom Channel Access to Support Complex Communication Workflows at Large Venues

ORLANDO, FL, JUNE 12, 2013 ─ Clear-Com® will launch the enhanced HelixNet™ Partyline Intercom System at InfoComm 2013 (Booth 921). The new version will include a multi-system linking capability to deliver a cost-effective intercom solution for distributing many network digital partyline channels and program audio feeds to dozens of digital beltpacks. Enabling this capability are two new modules: the HLI-ET2 Ethernet Module, for Main Station-to-Main Station networking over fiber or a LAN (Local Area Network), and the HLI-FBS Fiber Module, for daisy-chaining fiber interfaces to link Main Stations over long distances.

The expanded functionality of HelixNet Partyline permits a more sophisticated and cost-effective digital partyline intercom network for large stadiums or multi-campus venues. In these applications, a high volume of intercom users in disparate locations are often required to stay connected over long distances. HelixNet Partyline’s new system linking capability supports these complex workflows by granting access to many HBP-2X Digital Beltpacks through the connection of networked HMS-4X Main Stations over fiber or a LAN. Due to its unique design, the entire HelixNet network will only need a single, shield twisted-pair cable as its power source—saving cost and resources for setup and configuration. Moreover, the new version of HelixNet easily integrates with other wireless or two-wire systems to create a complete intercom setup.

“Linking main stations gives HelixNet users the capability to share digital partyline channels plus program inputs in a network distributed system,” says Simon Browne, Clear-Com’s Director of Product Management. “This means that any of the possible dozens of HelixNet Beltpack users can access any two of the available network partyline channels by simply selecting the desired channels on their beltpack. Since all these channels are running off a single, shielded twisted-pair cable, users no longer need to physically relocate multiple cables for new configurations, utilize expensive source-assign equipment or rely on multiple power supply units.”

One of the modules supporting the system linking function is the new HelixNet Partyline HLI-ET2 Ethernet Module for Main Station-to-Main Station networking. Built to fit directly into one of the HMS-4X option module bays at the back of the Main Station, the HLI-ET2 Ethernet Module can connect Main Stations directly through a LAN using standard IT switches.

A new HLI-FBS Fiber Module is also available for linking Main Stations over long distances. The Fiber Module has two fiber ports using SFP modules for simple exchange of fiber transceivers. It also allows linking of other Main Stations in a fiber daisy-chain. The standard connection is Single-Mode, with Multi-Mode offered as an option.

Bexel Supports Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert

Special Live Telecast Raised Money for United Way of Central Oklahoma

Bexel, a unit of the Vitec Group‘s Services Division and a leading worldwide provider of broadcast services and solutions, contributed broadcast equipment and engineer expertise to the recent telecast of Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. Organized by Oklahoma native Blake Shelton, the concert was televised live on NBC. It also aired live and/or delayed on cable networks Style, G4, Bravo, E! and CMT.

“Bexel has an outstanding relationship with some of the top tech managers throughout the country, and when the Healing in the Heartland event was conceived, they reached out to us,” says Justin Paulk, fiber business segment manager, Bexel ESS. “Due to our involvement with the NBA, we have documentation showing the infrastructure of the Chesapeake Energy Arena. We provided this information to the tech managers, giving them quick insight into the facility. We also offered available gear and staff, including prebuilt press bridges from our Burbank office.”

Due to the quick nature of this project, the Bexel team drove the necessary equipment and staff to Oklahoma City. Once there, Bexel provided onsite technical support, the press bridge set up, fiber cable, and the fiber electronics to move the additional signals needed around the arena.

“We were honored to be a part of something so special and thrilled that the network of people we work with regularly trusted us to respond,” adds Paulk.

The program, which earned the highest viewer ratings the night of May 29, was executive produced by R.A. Clark (Academy of Country Music Awards, MDA Show of Strength) with supervising producer Rob Paine and director Gregg Gelfand.

In addition to Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Rascal Flatts, Luke Bryan and Darius Rucker performed.

Extron Introduces New Media Presentation Switcher with DTP Extension

Extron Electronics is pleased to introduce the MPS 602, a simple-to-use, six input media presentation switcher for digital and analog sources. It offers digital video switching with three HDCP-compliant HDMI inputs and one DTP 230 twisted pair input, and analog video switching with two RGB inputs that are digitized for distribution to the digital outputs. For increased flexibility, the MPS 602 includes a selectable DTP 230 twisted pair or HDMI output. The DTP 230 input and output extend video, audio, and bidirectional control signals to DTP 230 transmitters and receivers, each over a single CATx cable up to 230 feet (70 meters). The MPS 602 also includes several audio switching and processing features, available power amplification, plus flexible control options for complete switching and distribution with local and remote display support. The MPS 602 is available in three models: a non-amplified version with a variable preamp output, the MPS 602 SA that adds a stereo 4/8 ohm power amplifier, and the MPS 602 MA with a mono 70 volt amplifier.

“The MPS 602 combines simplified AV switching with powerful integration capabilities, including twisted pair signal extension and audio amplification,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “Using the built-in DTP extension, integrators can streamline system designs in a wide variety of environments with local and remote sources and displays.”

The DTP 230 twisted pair input on the MPS 602 can receive signals from a remote DTP 230 transmitter in areas such as a conference table, lectern, or wall for connecting a guest laptop. The DTP 230 twisted pair output can be used to transmit digital AV signals from an MPS 602 in a rack to a DTP 230 receiver behind a flat-panel display on a wall, above a ceiling-mounted projector, or any other remote location. To simplify installation, bidirectional RS-232 and IR signals can be inserted from a control system and transmitted over the single CATx cable together with the video and audio, enabling control of a source or display. The MPS 602 can also remotely power the DTP 230 transmitter and receiver over the same CATx cable, streamlining system design and installation.

The MPS 602 includes six-input analog audio switching, a mic/line input with 48 volt phantom power, HDMI audio embedding and de-embedding, and several audio processing features for mixing and ducking. The Mic Talk Over feature automatically reduces program audio when it detects a microphone signal, replacing the need for a separate, standalone ducking processor. To streamline audio setup, the MPS 602 features front panel mic and program audio output volume controls that allow for independent adjustment of mic volume, program audio volume, and muting. Two MPS 602 models feature integrated power amplifiers. The MPS 602 SA delivers stereo power amplification with 50 watts rms per channel into 4 ohms and 25 watts rms per channel into 8 ohms, while the MPS 602 MA provides mono 70 volt amplification with 100 watts rms output.

To simplify integration of sources and displays, and to help ensure optimal system performance and dependability, the MPS 602 features two Extron-exclusive technologies: EDID Minder® and Key Minder®. EDID Minder manages EDID communication between the display device and input sources to ensure that the correct video formats are displayed reliably. For HDMI signals with protected content, Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption between input and output devices to ensure quick and reliable switching.

NanoLumens Selects BrightSign To Power Displays in Company’s Sales Showroom

BrightSign, LLC®, the market leader in digital signage players, today announced that NanoLumens®, the award-winning any size, shape, or curvature, large-format LED display manufacturer has chosen to install BrightSign’s players in the sales showroom at the company’s Atlanta, GA headquarters. This engagement is the latest milestone in the companies’ long-standing collaboration. BrightSign and NanoLumens work closely on a number of fronts, with BrightSign supplying players for all of NanoLumens’ industry trade shows, events and sales demonstrations.

“We enjoy a very close relationship with NanoLumens, and we’re pleased that they’ve entrusted us to power their newly renovated corporate showroom,” said Jeff Hastings, BrightSign’s CEO. “The fact that they’ve chosen to install our players is a testament to the performance and reliability that BrightSign is known for.”

NanoLumens’ 6,000-square-foot showroom is located at the company’s new 32,000-square-foot headquarters in Atlanta, GA. This cutting-edge showroom houses an ever-changing collection of NanoLumens’ displays, ranging in size from six to more than 16 feet across. The showroom currently features 14 of the company’s displays – an impressive collection of flexible, square, rectangular, circular and even specialty-shaped displays that highlight the diversity of NanoLumens’ portfolio. The displays are powered by the XD1230, BrightSign’s newest flagship player that boasts a video engine capable of playing two 1080p60 videos simultaneously, as well as the ability to display live HDTV content. In all, a total of six XD1230 units were installed, plus two of BrightSign’s HD models to power a very unique mannequin display.

“We invite some of our largest and most important customers into our corporate showroom to demonstrate the full potential of our displays; and to do that, we need players that perform flawlessly, without interruption,” said Josh Byrd, director of marketing at NanoLumens. “We need stunning video content to truly demonstrate what our displays are capable of, and BrightSign’s new XD players fit the bill perfectly.”

All of the players are routed through a Gefen switcher and into NanoLumens’ display interfaces, enabling any player to feed content to any of the displays with just the push of a button. This enables the NanoLumens sales team to present compelling demonstrations, and even switch source content spontaneously to customize the sales experience in real time.

BrightSign’s collaboration with NanoLumens extends far beyond the company’s showroom. At this year’s InfoComm tradeshow in Orlando, Florida, BrightSign’s new XD digital signage players will power a half-dozen NanoLumens displays. NanoLumens’ 600-square-foot booth (booth #4981) will feature NanoLumens displays ranging from the NanoFlex 112” to the impressive NanoSlim 181”, as well as a trio of NanoLumens Design Specific displays – each powered by their own BrightSign XD 1230. In addition, BrightSign’s booth (booth #4645) will feature a NanoSlim 114” used to showcase the capabilities of BrightSign’s new XD digital signage players.
