Archimedia Selects Andrea Smith to Lead Global Sales

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — June 12, 2013 — Archimedia Technology today announced that it has appointed Andrea Smith as vice president of global sales. A new company whose applications and tools fulfill a critical piece of production and archival workflows, Archimedia solutions encapsulate complex file interchange and quality control processes for lossless mastering and archive formats — giving end users a new level of access to their assets without any loss of quality. In her role, Smith is responsible for overseeing global sales and strategic partnerships for the company.

Prior to Archimedia’s founding, the available technologies for viewing archived files and produced content were designed for specific vendor formats, and lacking in tools to objectively test and QC the files. With Archimedia’s format-agnostic solution, users can access, play, manage, and test files in mastering, DI, digital cinema, and archive formats including 4K and JPEG 2000, resulting in unprecedented accessibility, efficiencies, and quality.

“In recognizing the need for an affordable option for universal access to media files, Archimedia founders Mark, Chi, and Josef have created something truly extraordinary,” Smith said. “It is a great honor to be joining a team with such unparalleled expertise, experience, and ingenuity, and I’m looking forward to helping this groundbreaking company grow.”

An experienced and creative digital media executive with expertise in developing new business and strategic partnerships, Smith most recently served as vice president of sales for Media Services, a division of Technicolor’s creative services division. She was responsible for strategy, development, and sales to strategic independent and growth accounts, with a focus on end-to-end title optimization of broadcast and motion picture content. Prior to Technicolor, Smith led media and entertainment sales for the Revere Group, an NTT DATA company, where she oversaw the growth of the practice and transformed the unit from a four-person startup to a leading media and entertainment practice with more than 300 employees.

“This position had to be filled by someone with enough stature to call on senior executives in both the media/entertainment and archive markets. I am pleased to have someone of Andrea’s caliber join our team. She is a sales executive of the highest order,” said Mark Gray, CEO and president, Archimedia.

Smith is based in Los Angeles.

Turner Broadcasting Integrates Nexidia QC Into Its Closed Captioning and Video Description Workflow

ATLANTA — June 11, 2013 — Nexidia, developer of dialogue and audio analysis products and technologies, today announced that Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. has incorporated Nexidia QC into its workflow to automate quality control of television closed captioning and video descriptions. The tool is used to verify the presence of captions and video descriptions in Turner’s television programs that are required to have closed captioning and/or video descriptions.

“Turner worked closely with Nexidia on the integration of the Nexidia QC product with Turner’s existing systems,” said Ken Brady, senior vice president of media technology and operations at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. “In collaboration with Nexidia, we have created a method to monitor closely our compliance with the FCC’s closed captioning and video description rules, in support of our hearing-impaired and visually impaired consumers. Nexidia QC is in use across Turner’s television networks for both descriptive video and closed caption monitoring, and Turner sees Nexidia QC as an important part of our delivery.”

Nexidia QC software integrates with Turner’s existing workflow to verify the presence of closed captioning and/or video description automatically. Nexidia uses its patented speech analytics technologies to determine the presence of closed captions that match the dialogue in the audio for a television program. It ensures that the right caption file appears against the right program in the right language, and that it is properly timed from ingest to playout and beyond. With respect to video descriptions, Nexidia QC compares a video description track for a television program to the main program audio. Where the video description track matches the main program audio but contains additional audio, Nexidia QC verifies the presence of video descriptions. Nexidia QC returns the results of each verification operation as XML, which then can be used to create specific compliance reports.

“Turner’s implementation of Nexidia QC is a perfect example of how the solution is able to meet the demands of the largest broadcast networks,” said Drew Lanham, senior vice president and general manager of Nexidia’s Media and Entertainment division. “Broadcasters with multiple channels and outlets can assure compliance more easily and efficiently than ever before, which not only helps them avoid fines, but just as important, helps them create a higher-quality viewing experience across all platforms.”

More information about Nexidia QC and other Nexidia products is available at www.nexidia.tv.

ELAN g! System Steals The Show In 9,000-Square Foot Calgary Show Home

In order to set his new $4.5 million Calgary, Alberta show home apart from the competition, Jason Ortt, owner of Wolf Custom Homes, decided that he needed to include a state-of-the-art home control solution that would impress and astound potential homebuyers. That’s why he hired P.J. Aucoin of Calgary-based integration firm Home Concepts Inc. to install an ELAN® g! Entertainment and Control System that shows guests how their 21st century dream-home can be a reality.

“Integrated control solutions are becoming a priority in the new housing market as homeowners are eager to have all of their major home functions easily controlled,” said Ortt. “By installing an ELAN g! system in our new show home, we’re showing prospective homebuyers that it’s possible to have an easy-to-use, completely integrated control system that offers touchscreen control of the home’s lighting, security, TV and music. The g! system allows homebuyers to see first-hand the benefits that a home control system can offer.”

The g! system can be easily controlled through an iPad, an ELAN TS7 7” in-wall touchscreen or an ELAN HR2 universal remote control that is perfect for quickly changing channels on any of the six flat-panel TVs and change volume for all of the in-ceiling speakers throughout the home. Using the simple touchscreen interfaces, the Wolf Homes sales team can easily control the lighting and audio when showcasing the home to interested buyers. Home Concepts programmed the g! system so that each salesperson has his or her own button that adjusts the lighting and video differently, allowing them to pick the right mood for whenever they are showing the home.

Home Concepts also programmed a special lighting scene for the show home’s cleaning crew that turns on every light at its maximum brightness, and automatically starts playing music through the Niles in-ceiling speakers.

“Homeowners who think home automation is too expensive or too confusing can just take a tour of our show home and see how easy a system like ELAN g! can make their lives,” added Ortt. “There’s a big difference between hearing all of the benefits that a control system can provide and seeing them in action. When people walk through our show home, and see just how easy it is to control the lighting, video and audio all from a touchscreen, they’re simply amazed.”

The project was the first collaboration between Wolf Custom Homes and Home Concepts, but Ortt feels that the success of the project will lead to a long-lasting partnership.

“P.J. and the team at Home Concepts offered everything that a builder looks for in an integrator,” said Ortt. “Their excellent service, combined with their vast expertise and integrity made this project a great success and I look forward to working with them in the future.”

Bowlmor Transforms Bowling into Exciting Entertainment with YCD and ScreenPlay Technologies

New York, June 14, 2013 – YCD Multimedia, a leading global provider of smart digital signage solutions, today announced that Bowlmor, one of the most successful bowling concepts in the US, has started to install an innovative platform in its venues that provides on-screen music and video entertainment. The project aims to create a more show-like and fun dance club atmosphere where the game is combined with visual effects and music, according to the audience’s taste. The rich media environment also makes the bowling centers a great place to host private parties and events.

The innovative system, ScreenCast, developed by ScreenPlay Entertainment, is based on YCD’s content management solution (YCD|CMS) and YCD’s automated and fully synchronized audio and video player (YCD|Player). The first system was installed at Bowlmor’s bowling center in Union Square, New York, a second in Bethesda, Maryland followed by Strike in Miami. Each location is equipped with numerous huge screens, creating a unique, unprecedented audio-visual wow experience.

The ScreenCast system gives the bowling center’s managers complete control through an intuitive touchscreen interface, enabling them to become “instant experts” on building custom programs, scheduling dayparts, and system administration. Bowling center managers can create their own playlists from ScreenPlay’s massive music video library, or use ScreenPlay’s programmers to deliver tailor-made playlists for general audiences, specific crowds or events.

“Everything is working perfectly here in the Bethesda bowling alley, and I am extremely happy with the product,” said Tony D’Angelo, General Manager of Bowlmor in Bethesda.

“It’s really encouraging to see another customer getting the results they need from a YCD-based solution,” said Noam Levavi, YCD’s CEO. “This project is a great example of how digital multimedia works to create an experience that fits a brand and provides a sensory-rich experience for the customer. Bowlmor’s managers can be in complete control of what’s happening and can manage the style of the environment to enhance a particular event or circumstance.”

“Music and the content that’s on your screens are two of the most defining elements of a venue’s atmosphere,” said Keri Maxwell, General Manager, ScreenPlay Entertainment. “With YCD’s software, combined with our solution, service and experience, we are able to provide Bowlmor with compelling on-screen content and pitch-perfect music, as well as content management capabilities, allowing a totally customizable experience depending on event, crowd or theme.”
