FOR-A Announces Innovative New Features of HVS-390HS Video Production Switcher

Updates make unit an industry first virtual 6 M/E switcher

Cypress, CA – FOR-A Company Limited, a leading manufacturer of video and audio systems for the broadcast and professional video industries, announces new features of its compact, cost-effective HVS-390HS video production switcher. First introduced at last year’s NAB Show as a 1 M/E to 2 M/E switcher, FOR-A has added unique capabilities to the unit that have never been seen before in this class of production switcher. The new functionality, referred to as a MINI M/E, is an extension of the aux bus system that allows operators to deploy any aux bus transition with cuts, mixes, or wipes, and display a keyer complete with DVE functions. The MINI M/E is now offered as a standard feature of the HVS-390HS, and brings the power of a virtual 6 M/E switcher in a 2 M/E unit.

The MINI M/E feature of the HVS-390HS can be useful in a variety of applications. For productions where distributing an automatic second language feed is desired, the switcher’s MINI M/E can switch independent mixer outputs, simultaneously displaying second language graphics. In house of worship productions, operators using the HVS-390HS can easily produce graphics or song lyrics on side screens that vary from the main screen visuals. For studio applications, a production team can display different information on the monitors viewed by the audience, such as indicating that it’s time for applause or providing different information, or perform simple on-set monitor positions where transitions with cuts, mixes, wipes, and graphics can contribute to the production workflow. All of these actions can be controlled from an aux bus remote panel or the main work surface.

The MINI M/E can be independently controlled or operated from a master/slave configuration. It can also follow any bus on 1 or 2 M/E, making the switcher easy for a single user. In addition, the MINI M/E can be expanded into a half M/E function, allowing the HVS-390HS to be configured into a 2.5 M/E mixer. The half M/E can also be controlled in a remote location where a traditional A/B bus mixer is used along with up to 4 DSK. With options, the HVS-390HS has the capabilities of up to an 8 M/E switcher.

“The new capabilities of the HVS-390HS offer powerful tools to create a richer audience experience in many scenarios,” explained Jay Shinn, FOR-A Corporation of America’s Northeast Sales Manager. “The MINI M/E features offer cost-effective functionality never seen before in this type of switcher. We’re confident that the HVS-390HS will greatly improve productions for our customers in broadcast, house of worship, education and corporate video.”

The ability to add in up to four additional mix effects is built into the HVS-390HS at no additional cost and with no extra software needed. Additionally, FOR-A is now also offering a new wireless LAN interface for configuration and control from touch screen surfaces, such as an iPad. The switcher is now more affordable than ever, available for $26,500.

Clear-Com Eclipse HX-Delta is Now Shipping Worldwide

New High-Performance 3RU Matrix Intercom System is Unveiled at InfoComm 2013 for the First Time

ORLANDO, FL, JUNE 13, 2013 – Clear-Com® is pleased to announce at InfoComm 2013 (Booth 921) that its new Eclipse HX-Delta Matrix Frame is now shipping worldwide. The HX-Delta brings the high capacity of Clear-Com’s larger matrices to a compact, cost-effective 3RU frame. This smaller frame allows connectivity using IP or fiber as well as seamless integration with wireless and third-party devices without external interface frames.

The Eclipse HX-Delta system also offers a new connection paradigm for larger venues such as performing arts complexes. Due to its small size and lower cost, HX-Delta gives users the option of building a distributed matrix system with frames in multiple areas of a facility. This new solution offers a more flexible workflow and permits shorter cable runs between system frames and intercom panels, cutting down on cabling costs. The size of the Eclipse HX-Delta also makes it suited for applications where space is limited but advanced connectivity is required, as with industrial or rental and staging applications.

The HX-Delta’s four interface card slots provide users with the flexibility of using a variety of connectivity options. Cards include the E-MADI64-HX 64 bi-directional channel card, the IVC-32-HX IP connection card and the E-Que-HX integrated wireless/E1/T1 trunking card, among others. Three internal slots for interface modules allow the HX-Delta to integrate seamlessly with other third-party communication devices, such as telephones, two-way radios and camera intercoms. The HX-Delta also comes with two CPU cards for redundant system control.

“As productions become more complex, our users require the additional connectivity options of a larger matrix frame but do not always have the space to accommodate the larger frame size,” says Stephen Sandford, Product Manager at Clear-Com. “Our new Eclipse HX-Delta bridges this gap between our smaller and larger frames. With the addition of the Eclipse HX-Delta to the already extensive variety of Eclipse HX frames, Clear-Com provides users with a complete intercom solution for every size and need of a production or application.”

The Eclipse HX range, comprising the Eclipse HX-Omega, Eclipse HX-Median, Eclipse HX-Delta and Eclipse HX-PiCo offer simplified setup, operation and administration as well as larger system capacity for many audio and user connections. When used along with the EHX Software, these frames allow users to make system-wide changes rapidly. Clear-Com’s V-Series and iStation user panels, existing frame I/O cards and interfaces are all compatible with the Eclipse HX range. This gives existing Eclipse customers a seamless and logical way to upgrade.

NanoLumens Redefines “Flexible” With Debut Of New DS Series Design-Specific Large-Format Displays At InfoComm 2013

Redefining the meaning of the word “flexible” for an industry rooted in “fixed” installation solutions, NanoLumens, Inc., the award-winning Georgia-based company that is revolutionizing virtually every aspect of the 21st century large-format digital signage industry, today announced the market introduction of its new NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS (Design-Specific) Series LED displays at INFOCOMM 2013 in Booth #4981 in the Orange County Convention Center.

“The era of one-size-fits-all display solutions is over,” NanoLumens President & CEO Rick Cope declared today. “In a world where no two customers and no two environments are alike, no two digital signage solutions should ever be the same. Each installation is unique and therefore each solution must be designed specifically to meet the individual needs of the customer and the application environment. Our new NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS Series displays allow each customer to imagine and create the ultimate digital experience in their environment for their audience.”

According to Cope, NanoLumens has developed an advanced manufacturing system, which allows them to reliably and efficiently manufacture large-format LED displays in virtually any shape, size or curvature. With this new approach to manufacturing, NanoLumens is able to deliver the ultimate flexibility to its customers. Where traditional manufacturing offers customers only a narrow range of sizes, shapes and product variations, NanoLumens new DS Series displays are limited only by the customer’s imagination, allowing them to tailor not only the content, but the actual display itself to match their creative vision.

NanoLumens DS technology is a truly remarkable innovation, designed to give customers the ultimate flexibility to utilize large-format LED display technology in ways previously thought impossible. Like all NanoLumens displays, Design-Specific displays are slim, lightweight and eco-friendly with brilliant edge-to-edge image quality to transform any space into the ultimate visual experience.

All NanoLumens displays accept input from nearly any device and/or content management system. There is no need for special software, hardware or special personnel to display content beautifully. With a profile of only a few inches, NanoSlim DS and NanoFlex DS can be installed on virtually any surface without being obtrusive, adding the ‘WOW’ factor to any environment without taking up precious space. NanoLumens patented display technology produces bright, rich, consistent color as well as superior off-axis viewing with no color shift or image distortion throughout the display horizon.

Coincident with the introduction of the new DS Series display lines today, NanoLumens also announced the launch of a completely redesigned web site, www.nanolumens.com, that features a unique specifications calculator that allows potential customers to plug in their desired model, size and pixel pitch and receive a full list of specifications for that unique display. In less than 30 seconds a visitor to the site can enter their requirements, view the specifications, and send the NanoLumens team a request for a price quote.

NanoLumens’ technology has been named ‘Best Large-format LED Display’ of the year by Signage Solutions magazine in its 2012 Product of the Year awards program, as well as being recognized by Entrepreneur magazine as a 2011 future-proof tech trend and cited by The Wall Street Journal in its 2010 Technology Innovations Awards. NanoLumens’ technology also received the 2011 Breakthrough Technology of the Year Award at the American Technology Awards. Digital Signage Magazine awarded the NanoLumens NanoFlex a 2011 DIGI Award for “Best New Display Device – Non-LCD or Plasma.”

Be sure to follow NanoLumens on Twitter as they live-tweet from INFOCOMM 2013.

About NanoLumens:
Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, NanoLumens®, Inc. is a privately held corporation engaged in the research, product development, marketing and sales of unique flexible and fixed large-format LED display solutions in any size, shape, or curvature, that address a yawning technology gap in the $14 billion digital display industry. Since introducing its initial line of NanoFlex and NanoSlim displays in 2011, NanoLumens has built a portfolio of more than 20 international families of issued and filed patents on its flexible display technology that effectively address the commercial market void between relatively small flat-panel displays and huge, limited application LED boards. NanoLumens technology is not constrained by standard sizes and shapes, or by the weight, heat, noise and cost issues traditionally associated with commercial LED products.

The RapcoHorizon Company Showcases Pro Co TradeTools Headphone Junction Boxes at InfoComm 2013

HJ4P Professional and HJ6 Units are Ideal for Studio Cue Systems and Sound Reinforcement

ORLANDO, FL, JUNE 13, 2013 ― The RapcoHorizon Company, a leading manufacturer of audio/video interfacing and cable equipment, features its Pro Co TradeTools HJ4P and HJ6 Headphone Junction Boxes at InfoComm 2013 (Booth 709). The HJ4P Professional and HJ6 models are ideal for cueing or foldback in studios, and can also be applied to sound reinforcement systems where headphones may be required, such as individual demonstrations at museums or for hearing-impaired individuals in meeting spaces.

Designed to provide trouble-free distribution and control of audio signals from stereo power amplifiers to stereo headphones with 150- to 600-ohms, the outputs on the HJ4P support as many as four sets of headphones, while the HJ6 features six outputs. All outputs are individually isolated with resistors to prevent the amplifier output from momentarily short-circuiting when plugging or unplugging. This ensures that the system will not completely short out and eliminates pops from the cue system. The resistive isolation also prevents one defective set of headphones from affecting the levels of the others.

With the option of left, right, mono and stereo inputs, the HJ6 can be used with a single-channel power or guitar-type amplifier. The unit’s stereo input simplifies connections, whether this is from small headphone amplifiers in the mixers or from the Pro Co RMS-1 Recording Monitor Selector.

“The Pro Co Headphone Junction Boxes are sturdy products that will last forever without complications,” says Bill Eaton, custom product specialist for Pro Co Sound, a RapcoHorizon Company brand. “We have found that our customers, such as audio techs and studio engineers, tend to gravitate toward products that produce a natural sound. These units provide the desired crisp and clean sound, which is especially important in the recording industry. In fact, the HJ4P is a popular fixture at recording schools such as Full Sail University. As for the HJ6, its simplicity makes it ideal for sound-reinforcement users who may be less familiar with audio engineering.”

In addition, the HJ4P Junction Box includes a loop-through function, which allows multiple units to be daisy-chained for a greater range of use. With the stereo/mono and left/right switches, the HJ4P can provide either a stereo cue mix or two monaural mixes. This feature is practical in studios for tracking sessions where one musician may require a different mix than another. It is also convenient for bilingual sound-reinforcement applications, as users can arrange it to send audio in one language to one ear and the translated version to the other. The unit’s left/right volume controls enable individual tailoring of the stereo balance levels. When switched to the mono function, the audio is sent to only one ear, leaving the other free for natural listening.

Both the HJ4P and HJ6 are ruggedly constructed from 16-gauge steel and are painted with durable semi-gloss epoxy paint. The heavy base and non-skid feet prevent tipping problems, while all controls and connectors are recessed in the enclosures to avoid accidental damage. The controls and connectors are also clearly identified with white silkscreened labels to ensure easy identification and management.

The RapcoHorizon Company, located in Jackson, Missouri, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of audio, video, home theater, data and telecommunications interfacing products. Comprising RapcoHorizon, Momentum, Pro Co, Pro Co Data, RAT, RoadHog and StageMASTER, each RapcoHorizon Company brand has developed a reputation in many industries for reliability, and superior sound performance. Used worldwide by concert touring sound companies, video and sound contractors, recording studios, system integrators, audiophiles and musicians, the company’s products provide optimal flexibility and premium performance. The RapcoHorizon Company also has a state-of-the-art Custom Shop to modify existing products or build new devices to meet any need. Clay Paky Lighting, grandMA2 and MDG Join the Dave Matthews Band For Summer Tour

The Dave Matthews Band hits the road for an extensive national tour with Clay Paky lighting, grandMA2 consoles and MDG foggers along for the ride. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor of both product lines in North America.

The band commences its 45-date cross-country swing in mid-May and wraps after Labor Day. They will be supporting last year’s hit LP, “Away From The World.”

Theatrical Media Services is providing the lighting gear and consoles for design company and video vendor Filiment Productions. Fenton Williams is the production designer and lighting designer for the tour; Aaron Stinebrink is the lighting programmer and designer.

“The overall concept is to continually augment the look of the show as the evening progresses,” says Stinebrink. “Everything is mounted on automated curved trusses that can move around during the show. We also have a large curved LED videowall upstage.”

Twelve Clay Paky Sharpy Wash lights hang from the sub grid and shine through all the trusses. A dozen Sharpys are positioned above the videowall and 12 more act as floor lights. Fourteen Alpha Spot HPE 1500s are integrated throughout the five automated trusses.

“We chose the Sharpys for the same reason everybody does: They have fantastic light output, speed, great colors and effects. It’s a versatile light that everyone uses,” Stinebrink explains. “The Sharpy Washes also offer a small footprint, speed and brightness, and they provide a great zoom and the ability to go from a nice tight beam to a wide wash.”

He notes that the Alpha spots were selected “because of their output with a 1500W lamp plus two irises and a fantastic zoom. It’s a very good light – far superior to others on the market.”

Two full-size grandMA2s and one grandMA2 light control the lighting rig as well as the Hippo media servers. “We’re very excited to start using them,” Stinebrink says. “The entire video show is run through the Hippos and controlled by the grandMA2. The grandMA2 is a fantastic platform known for its stability throughout the years. It’s so versatile that I can set up the console any way I see fit, as can anyone who operates the system.”

The production is also using two MDG MAX 3000 and two MAX 5000 foggers. The 5000s are used in festival situations on the downstage corners to help with coverage. “The MDG MAX series has been perfect fit for us for years. They have a fantastic volume of output while still having enough control to use them as a hazer. This series of foggers has been perfect for our amphitheater tours,” concludes Stinebrink.

George Masek, A.C.T Lighting’s Vice President, Automated Lighting, adds, “We’ve known Fenton, Aaron, and the Dave Matthews team for a number of years and they are always a pleasure to work with. It was nice to see that Aaron and the TMS staff appreciate the same things that we do about the Sharpy, Sharpy Wash, and Alpha Spot HPE 1500. We’re very pleased that we were able to offer fixtures that are new and exciting to them.”

ASHLY RATED THE TOP AUDIO ENTRÉE AT CHEF ROB’S CARIBBEAN CAFÉ

SANDY SPRINGS, GEORGIA – MAY 2013: Located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, Chef Rob’s Caribbean Café has been a culinary destination for Atlantans since 2006. The restaurant’s success inspired Chef Rob to open a sister establishment next door, Chef Rob’s Upscale Lounge. Of course, the lounge would need an authoritative sound reinforcement system and a high-end video system, and because the two establishments share staff, customers, and a wall, it was also an excellent time to update the café’s audio and video system. Local A/V integration firm T. Magee, Inc. designed and installed a new value-engineered sound and video system based on Ashly Audio processing, amplification, and user control that gives both establishments access to the same source material and yet provides each establishment with independent source selection and volume control.

Todd Magee, the eponymous owner of T. Magee, Inc., spent decades behind a live mixing console before concentrating his attention on the more geographically-rooted profession of A/V integration. Nevertheless, he continues to tour the world (though less occasionally now) and has worked with seventeen Grammy-winning artists, including Gladys Knight, OutKast, and Loretta Lynn. To be sure, Magee knows what it takes to make audio sound great. “Chef Rob’s Caribbean Café used to use a home-grown stereo receiver with long loudspeaker runs,” he explained. “They wanted to upgrade that to a commercial system and to tie it into the video system. On the lounge side, they wanted access to all the same music and video inputs that they had on the café side, plus inputs for a DJ.”

Stereo inputs to the system include a DMX Pandora receiver, two satellite receivers, and three floor boxes on the lounge side. Each floor box includes stereo XLR inputs, stereo ?-inch inputs, and stereo RCA inputs. An Ashly ne24.24M modular processor, configured with twelve inputs and eight outputs, provides input processing, matrixing, and loudspeaker equalization and delay. Because it is so easy to add inputs or outputs to the ne24.24M, Magee will soon add four more inputs to accommodate the lounge’s recent request for a few handheld wireless microphones.

Five Ashly KLR 2000 amplifiers, three on the lounge side and two on the café side, power the system. High fidelity Australian Monitor loudspeakers and SoundTube subwoofers complete the system. “One unique aspect of this installation is the rack system we used,” said Magee. “There are four racks recessed into an area near the entranceway. It’s an elegant, out-of-the-way place to put them, and when we need access, they pull out and rotate 90-degrees. Very cool.”

He continued, “I’ve been an Ashly fan for years. I first worked with Ashly’s analog crossovers, GQX series equalizers, and compressors in live audio. Now their digital equipment reflects the same commitment to quality that I heard so many years ago. The sound quality is comparable to units from other manufacturers that cost twice as much. The IP-based control and communication is also very nice.” A pair of Ashly neWR-5 wall remote controls provide all of the system management required – source selection and volume control.

ABOUT ASHLY AUDIO Ashly Audio Inc. is recognized as a world leader in the design and manufacturing of high quality & high performance signal processing equipment and power amplification for use in the commercial sound contracting and professional audio markets.
