Aphex® Releases Audio Xciter™ App Update

Android Version 1.5 Supports More File Formats and Reduces Power Usage

BURBANK, CA ~ July 9, 2013 — Aphex®, a leader in audio enhancement technology for over 35 years, today announced an update to their popular Audio Xciter™ app for the Android platform of smartphones and tablets.

“This update makes Audio Xciter the best way to listen to music on the go,” says Aphex CEO David Wiener. “You can now listen to WAV, M4A, WMA and AAC files with sample rates from 8kHz all the way to 48kHz.” Additionally, MP3 files are now supported at bit rates of 96 kbps to 320 kbps.

“This update was reworked from the ground up to zap bugs and dramatically improve performance on Android devices,” continues Wiener. “Android users who really love music will instantly appreciate hearing all the detail and richness that their favorite artists work so hard to create – detail that’s typically hidden in digital files. That’s our main goal: to respect the music, the artist and the listener.” The new release brings with it a more responsive user interface and greater stability, and it fixes issues with in-app upgrades.

Audio Xciter has been a big hit with iPhone and iPad owners, and this update brings Android users a whole new listening experience, as they “rediscover” the music they love, thanks to Aphex’s patented audio processor technology – the same technology pros have been using for years in the studio and on stage. And the simplicity of the Audio Xciter app’s familiar interface provides instant access to the user’s library, playlists and even Bluetooth playback support, all with studio quality enhanced playback.

An update for the Audio Xciter app on the iOS platform (Apple iPhones, iPods and iPads) is currently in the works.

Eastern High School Installs Versatile Gymnasium Sound with Community

Eastern High School, in Voorhees, New Jersey, is a regional district school with 2100 students. Eastern has a competition-sized gymnasium used for multiple indoor sports and other events. Last year, Eastern decided to replace the sound system in their gymnasium. The existing system was unreliable and lacked the versatility needed for a modern, multi-purpose facility.

Eastern contacted JD Sound and Video who designed a new sound system using Community R-Series model R.5 loudspeakers, in a semi-distributed layout, supplemented with Community iBOX model i215LVS subwoofers.

Because the school was unfamiliar with this style of system, JD Sound and Video arranged an on-site demonstration. The school was pleased with the demo which covered the gymnasium well and provided great musical sound quality and excellent voice intelligibility. In addition, the semi-distributed design allowed the school to sub-divide the gym and host two events simultaneously.

The system is powered by Crown amplifiers and uses a Rane mixer and DSP system and Shure wireless microphones. JD Sound and Video provided a simple user interface that allows the system to be easily sub-divided and controlled from several locations. Joe DiSabatino of JD Sound and Video says, “The school is very happy with the system and we were able to complete it in time for their high school graduation ceremonies.”

Sound meets fashion: Sennheiser’s new MOMENTUM On-Ear

Old Lyme, CT, July 9, 2013 – Delighting ears and turning heads: Sennheiser’s MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones see the audio specialist getting seriously fashionable. The newest addition to Sennheiser’s MOMENTUM family debuts in a palette of fresh, pastel colors that’s right in step with the latest fashion collections. To celebrate the launch of the headphones, renowned photographer Alexander Gnädinger worked with three established fashion bloggers from different countries to create personal portraits reflecting the colors and the style of the new MOMENTUM On-Ear.

Injecting bright, beautiful color into Sennheiser’s range of headphones, the new MOMENTUM On-Ear is crafted from the finest materials and available in four colors, inspired by an international team of design experts and trend scouts. With versions in blue, green, pink and ivory, the pastel shades define an emerging trend for subtler color that is a key look in the current fashion collections.

The look, the feel, the sound

As well as exciting those with an eye for style, the MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones are a tactile delight: They feature a headband and earpads finished in high-tech Alcantara®, a specialised luxury material loved by designers and automotive upholsterers for its unique combination of softness, durability, and breathable comfort. While providing supreme comfort, the Alcantara® earpads isolate the listener for a great listening experience on the move, even in noisy urban environments. Lightweight sliders of premium brushed stainless steel complete the high end look.

Seriously stylish does not mean compromising on sound. The MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones deliver a sound experience that one would expect from audio specialist Sennheiser. The high performance transducer system offers an uncompromising sound performance: Rich, detailed and with a slight bass emphasis.

Inspired by fashion, inspiring the fashionable

To reflect idea and vision behind the MOMENTUM On-Ear, Sennheiser has worked with Alexander Gnädinger, a renowned photographer in the field of fashion and lifestyle, to explore how the unique colors and styling of the headphone range could inspire international fashion bloggers. Starting with a pair of MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones in the colors that best matched their own distinctive style, bloggers Luke Todd from the UK’s “FashionBeans”, Haleigh Walsworth from France’s “Making Magique”, and Anna Frost from Germany’s “Fashionpuppe” were invited to work with the photographer to art direct and model in their own photoshoots.

Alexander Gnädinger explains how the vision came together: “It was very interesting to work with the three different bloggers, to look at them, learn from them, work with their style and then jointly create a personal portrait, related to fashion, music and the new Sennheiser headphones.”

“I really like the MOMENTUM On-Ear. It creates the link between fashion and music. Where it has always existed it’s now shown in a physical form – it looks good, with great colors and the sound is brilliant. It really cements the bond between the two,” says FashionBeans’ Luke Todd.

The new headphones feature a single sided detachable cable with convenient in-line remote and mic for Apple iDevices, for easy control over music playback and to make and receive calls on the go.

QATAR TELEVISION (QTV) SELECTS WSDG FOR NEW STUDIO PROJECTS

Successful Acoustic Treatments Lead To Audio Post Suite Design

DOHA, QATAR: When WSDG Partner/Director of International Relations Sergio Molho tasked project engineer Marc Viadiu with attending the Broadcast & Film Africa 2012 Conference in Kenya last year, they didn’t anticipate initiating a major new project. However, Viadiu’s meeting with, Qatar Television (QTV), Support & Development Committee, Audio Chief, Xavier Massard, produced exactly that. In preparing to open a world-class TV production complex, QTV, required precise acoustical measurements and specific recommendations for reducing reverberation time on their three primary studio sets. The multi-national, Walters-Storyk Design Group specializes in those services.

“In Kenya, Marc Viadiu provided Mr. Massard with examples of WSDG’s testing procedures and expertise in broadcast production facility design in Europe, South America and the U.S.,” Molho says. “I made an initial site visit in mid-October and returned with Marc in November to perform acoustic measurement and simulation tests. We made a third site visit to present our evaluation report and recommendations.”

QTV has three permanent program sets. The 14,788 sq. ft./39.4 ft. high News Show and 10,764 sq ft./39.4 ft. high Evening Show sets live within the TV Production Complex, The 3230 sq. ft./ 26.2 ft. high Morning Show set is situated within “The Pearl,” a large commercial mall. WSDG’s mandate was to fine tune the interior room acoustics, and resolve disparate isolation issues for all three studios. A primary condition was that the work be completed within a two-month, time frame to enable the station to begin scheduled broadcasting on December 16, 2012.

“WSDG worked with leading acoustical material manufacturers in Europe to provide the requisite isolation treatments,” Molho reports. “We had the necessary custom acoustic absorption panels fabricated to international broadcast industry standards. And, we met the 60-day deadline. Additionally,” Molho emphasizes, “WSDG supervised the design, construction and certification of two 9’ high, 3.5’ wide custom acoustic doors for the Evening Show Studio. Those doors, each weighing a full ton, were installed during the second phase of the project in February, 2013.”

Working closely with Xavier Massard and with Kinan Massard, QTV, Chief of Video, WSDG focused on providing highly effective acoustic solutions, including 1250 sqm of Melamine foam, (61 cubic meters) and 700 sqm of polyurethane foam (21 cubic meters). As per client directives, the installation is completely undetectable to viewers.

“The success of this initial project has led QTV to engage WSDG for a 2nd project, a new audio post suite,” Molho concludes. “We are very pleased to have established a productive working relationship with QTV, and we look forward to being of additional service to them in the future.”
