H.A.S. PRODUCTIONS EXPANDS POWERSOFT INVENTORY

Las Vegas, NV, August 2013 — H.A.S. Productions, based in Las Vegas, NV, has acquired one dozen Powersoft K3 KAESOP amplifiers to drive a monitor system comprising Adamson M15 and Radian Audio Apex wedges. The company is already using 30 Powersoft K10 KAESOP and K20 KAESOP amplifiers to power a main rig of EAW KF740 line array modules and SB2001 subwoofers.

According to Larry E. Hall, Jr., president, H.A.S. Productions, the original decision to purchase Powersoft’s K Series amplifiers came as the result of their unanimous selection during listening tests of three different brands. “After very close listening comparisons with the other top two competing DSP-based amplifiers we found the Powersoft amps were much smoother on the high end, ‘thumpier’ on the low end and not nearly as ‘honky’ on the mids,” says Hall. “With several people here for the three-way ‘blind’ shootout, every single person choose the P.A. stack that was powered by K10s and K20s over the other brands.”

As a result of the shootout, H.A.S. Productions purchased 20 K10 KAESOP amplifiers to power a main system of EAW KF740 line array modules and 10 K20 KAESOP amps for the system’s EAW SB2001 Subwoofers. Most recently, Hall acquired an additional 12 K3 KAESOP amplifiers to drive one of his company’s monitor systems.

“I have always prided myself on being hip on amp technology,” continues Hall, who has been searching for the optimum amplifier for a long time. “I have gone through several amp changes over the past seven years, trying to find a brand that just blows me away—and here it is.” Although he had previously shied away from the 1RU digital power amplifier form factor when considering alternatives, he adds, the Powersoft K Series proved to be the best amplifier for the job: “I have never had so much headroom on a P.A.”

All of the two-channel, high-power K Series amplifiers are outfitted with Powersoft’s proprietary AESOP (AES Ethernet Simple Open Protocol) networking capabilities. H.A.S. Productions manages the racks, which each house four, six or eight channels of K Series amplification, using Powersoft’s Armonía Pro Audio Suite™ software via the KAESOP Ethernet/AES3 interface in all monitor applications and for some KF740 set-ups.

H.A.S. Productions’ Powersoft amplifiers, including the newer K3s, are being used on the Rock of Vegas free concert series on the 1st Street Stage at the Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas. The series kicked off on Memorial Day weekend with Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil and continues throughout the summer with bands such as Fuel, Hinder, Everclear, Three Days Grace, Third Eye Blind and Puddle of Mudd.

H.A.S. Productions, an independently owned and operated full service production company based in fabulous Las Vegas, NV, offers audio and live sound production, lighting, power distribution, staging, backline and digital multi-track recording services.

Severtson Screens Features SēVision 3D GX “Micro Perf” Curved Screens at 2013 CEDIA Expo

Mesa, Ariz., August 1, 2013 – Severtson Screens (www.severtsonscreens.com), a global leader in innovative and quality projection screens for the home theater, commercial, and pro AV markets, is pleased to announce that it will feature its new curved SēVision 3D GX “Micro Perf” screens during CEDIA Expo 2013, held in Denver from Sept. 26-28 at the Colorado Convention Center, booth 3327. The SēVision 3D GX is now available.

“The SēVision 3D GX offers the ultimate 3D home theater experience,” said Kirk Severtson, Severtson Screens COO. “It is the only screen in the home theatre industry to offer PristiVue© technology, a revolutionary 3D coating on micro-perforated screen material. No other company has been able to apply a hi-performance silver coating for the passive 3D viewing experience.”

Proudly Made in the USA, the result both maximizes the effect of 3D cinema while at the same time offering an acoustically transparent audio experience, as well, by allowing home theatre speaker placement directly behind the screen with no noticeable reduction in audio quality.

PristiVue technology is the cornerstone of Severtson projection screen surfaces. PristiVue allows the viewer to see what the director originally intended for them to see in the theatre. The sharpness, clarity, and warmth of the digital image projected onto the screen and reflected to the viewers’ eyes are dictated by the quality of the screen. PristiVue technology combines accurate color, a smooth and flawless texture, and adheres to Severtson Screens’ strict manufacturing guidelines.

The SēVision 3D GX is also referred to as a “Green Screen”, since its water-based optical coating is lacquer-free. As a result, the screen will not yellow or sag over time as do other lacquer-based coated screens. The SēVision 3D GX’s coating is the only water-based silver optical coating in the industry and helps protect and prolong the life of the screen material, as well as the gain.

“The SēVision 3D GX’s signal-to-noise ratio is an industry shattering 250:1, and the gain is 2.4,” added Severtson. “These features make ‘ghosting’ near obsolete, and thus allow it to work beautifully in ambient lighting. The SēVision 3D GX is the first home theater screen to be certified by all the major 3D licensors for digital projection, and can also be used for viewing 2D projection. It utilizes the same technology that helped earn an Oscar for IMAX in 1996, assuring that through viewing movies on this screen, everyone can experience the pristine visual presentations 3D digital projection has to offer.”

The SēVision 3D GX can be used for residential, commercial, and pro-AV applications, such as home theaters, movie theaters, schools, offices, museums, resorts, etc. It is also perfect for both fixed and electric/motorized applications, and can be rolled into a spindle in motorized applications. Since Severtson also caters to the movie theater industry, there are virtually no limitations or restrictions on the screen’s size and placement.

Custom and standard sizes are available. Severtson asks that customers contact them directly for individual pricing for their specific needs. “Our customers are ‘happily surprised’ at the cost for such a high-end quality 3D screen that’s manufactured right here at our company headquarters in Arizona,” Severtson concluded.

After celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011, Severtson Corporation continues to be a global leader in innovation and quality. Severtson’s extensive experience in manufacturing small home theater screens and large cinema screens has given Severtson Corporation the expertise to meet the needs of the professional and consumer AV markets for both indoor applications as well as large outdoor venues.

With its three production facilities and its state-of-the-art robotic application system, Severtson has massive production capabilities and an unusually wide array of screen sizes — from IMAX to small home theater screens — available to its clients.

Electrosonic Provides AV Support for Hult International Business School Campuses

Electrosonic has provided classroom audio-visual systems for Hult campuses in London, Dubai, Boston and San Francisco, all to a common design. Each campus was outfitted with AV presentation equipment supported by local service operations. In addition, all campuses are connected to Electrosonic’s 24/7 Video Network Operations Centre (VNOC) in the UK for remote support and management. Electrosonic completed the new Hult campus build in London in 2012; more recently, classroom AV systems were installed in Hult’s Boston and Dubai facilities.

Hult International Business School spans a global network of campuses that now form one of the world’s largest graduate business schools with a focus on teaching practical and international business education.

“Over the many years we have worked together, Electrosonic have delivered only better value results for Hult,” says Yousuf Khan, Chief Information Officer of the Hult International Business School. “The quality of work during implementation has been consistently high and ongoing support has been exemplary.”

To accommodate Hult’s international rotation component where students can attend their studies at more than one location, all systems at each campus had to be consistent. The consistency of the operation of teaching and learning resources also helps to reduce barriers and increase effectiveness and efficiencies.

The AV systems were designed and implemented with appreciation of the overall design aesthetic. Electrosonic furnished the Hult campuses with lectern-based teaching and presentation systems that offer the ability to show images from a rack-mounted PC, laptop or iPad. The rack PC is connected to a SMART Podium 22-inch interactive display that allows lecturers to annotate or use white-boarding capabilities, and have their notes displayed via twin NEC PA500U projectors projecting directly onto the walls.

The campuses also feature Tannoy program loudspeakers, which were installed front of house; room control is provided via a Crestron 2 series processor with an iPad touch control interface.

Each campus has multiple classrooms, four in London, Dubai and San Francisco and two in Boston. In the Dubai campus, which formally opened in March 2013, there are an additional 20 breakout rooms, and 18 in London, for the use of students working on projects, assignments and presentations. Each of these rooms is equipped with a 46-inch NEC LCD; a wall-mounted Extron control panel providing on/off, volume and source control; and a Spinetix digital signage player to allow distribution of content to all rooms simultaneously or to specific functions and events. VGA and HDMI cabling is provided at the table for direct connection to the wall-mounted display. Where possible, equipment is network connected. Remote support is made possible by direct connection to individual devices and by XPanel for the classroom systems.

The Hult campus’ service contract with Electrosonic ensures the reliability of the installed systems. Using a specific VLAN via VPN, Electrosonic is able to access all network capable equipment located at all campuses and offices to provide support. Electrosonic’s 24/7 Video Network Operations Center (VNOC) in the UK provides remote support and management of the systems.

Project management and delivery were organized across geographies. The project was account managed from the UK, and then supported in each region with Electrosonic’s own engineering expertise from its regional offices in the USA and Dubai. This formed an integral part of the relationship experience and leveraged Electrosonic’s international capabilities to provide ‘on the ground’ localized project management for each campus location.

“We have been able to implement consistent AV standards at the school, which resulted in improved customer experience at each of our campuses across the globe,” says Khan. “We continue to work with Electrosonic in a collaborative way to come up with more innovative AV solutions to support our growth.”

Walking on Water: projectiondesign® powers interactive portable 360-degree Igloo experience

La Biennale di Venezia 2013 – Reliability, quality and colour ability are key to immersive installation

Immersive specialist Igloo Vision was commissioned by United Arab Emirates to create a 360-degree immersive installation for the La Biennale di Venezia 2013, 53rd annual art exhibition that incorporates F22 projectors from projectiondesign®. Mounted in the Sale d’Armi at the New National Pavilion, Mohammed Kazem’s realization called ‘Directions 2005/2013’ makes a brilliant contribution to ‘Walking on Water’.

“Showing content of seascapes and replicating what it would be like to be lost at sea, the immersive installation uses fifteen F22 projectors at WUXGA resolution with zoom lenses and installed in portrait mode. The projectors are edge blended and integrated in a floor to ceiling 360° fully immersive screen using tailor made software,” says Pippa Halliday, sales director at Igloo.

“The projectors were chosen because of their reliability and ability to be shown in portrait mode. They produce high-quality images with colour accuracy, which was calibrated at the factory in Norway meaning that little tweaking was necessary at the site. The projectors are tried and tested as Igloo have used projectiondesign before with great result, so we know they will perform for the duration of the La Biennale di Venezia 2013.”

The F22 single-chip DLP™ projectors are designed for installations where reliability, image quality and performance is critical, and where acquisition cost and total cost of ownership plays a central role. Each F22 projector is uniquely characterised and calibrated during its manufacture. Unique optical performance values are recorded and matched to the electronics processing in order to secure perfect on-site calibration. With RealColor™, it is possible to match any number of projectors, and ensure they all project the same primaries and grey scale, without going through a very complicated process.

Maria Dahl Aagaard, product marketing manager at projectiondesign says: “We’re delighted to see that Igloo has enabled artist Mohammed Kazem to achieve his goals in ensuring that the projectors were supportive rather than intrusive. It was important to make sure that visitors to the ‘Directions 2005/2013’ installation could walk in and feel as though they were part of the experience.”

The National Pavilion of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development and with the support of the Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation presents ‘Walking on Water’ for the 55th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia. Curated by Reem Fadda, ‘Walking on Water’ features a solo exhibition by vanguard Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem under the leadership of Commissioner, Dr. James Hamdan at the New National Pavilion for the United Arab Emirates at the Sale d’Armi from June 1 – November 24, 2013.

Media Group International Completes A Prestigious Project for MBC Group

Leading systems integrator Media Group International has completed a prestigious project for Middle East broadcaster MBC Group (Middle East Broadcasting Centre) to install a state of the art News facility in Cairo, Egypt.

MBC Group, the first private free-to-air satellite broadcasting company in the Arab World which was launched in London in 1991 and later moved to its headquarters in Dubai in 2002, has grown to become a well-established media group that enriches people’s lives through information, interaction and entertainment. Based in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, MBC Group includes 12 television channels. The broadcaster engaged Media Group International (MGI) on the basis of the company’s established reputation for high quality systems integration and project management. MGI has over 35 years’ experience of systems integration in the Gulf region and represents many worldwide broadcast equipment manufacturers. It also serves TV channels and networks, movie studios and network operators in the region, providing telecommunications, broadcasting, integrated systems and state-of-the-art security.

Raed Bacho, Broadcast Manager, MBC Group says: “MGI’s reputation for delivering world-class broadcast solutions was a key factor in our decision to award the company the contract. Our Cairo News facility is a major investment and one that required careful planning. We were delighted by the efficiency and timely results.”

MGI’s brief was to provide MBC Group with an entire News facility consisting of a broadcast control room/gallery, a central apparatus room, an audio studio, a broadcast studio, a Master Control Room, a Newsroom and various editing and production facilities. The company was also responsible for the entire IT infrastructure and the installation of all power requirements.

“MBC’s on-air requirements meant that we were up against extremely tight deadlines,” says Paul Wallis, MGI’s Sales Director. “We also undertook this project during the recent political unrest, which created its own set of issues. On at least one occasion our team could not leave the facility overnight because demonstrators were protesting outside.”

At a time when many companies are avoiding outlay in Egypt, MBC’s decision to build this new facility – and its equipment choices – reflect its determination to invest in the very latest technology in order to bring high quality news coverage to the people of Egypt.

“In consultation with MGI’s experienced technical team, MBC selected some of the latest ground breaking equipment, including cutting-edge Grass Valley LDX-80 studio cameras that adopt cmos technology as opposed to traditional CCD,” says Wallis. “At the heart of the system is a full Avid Newsvision production system, complemented by the latest Viztr on air graphics. Other technical highlights include a powerful Ross live production switcher, a Trilogy Broadcast communications system, a state of the art video wall and a Studer All-In-One Vista audio mixing console, the first of its kind to be installed in Egypt.”

Wallis adds that the project was not without its challenges, but thanks to MGI’s excellent relationships with the various manufacturers involved, these were quickly overcome.

“We were faced with some tough technology changes that could have delayed the on-air deadline, but fortunately we had chosen manufacturers who helped us work around this problem and enabled us to keep our commitment to MBC,” he says.

MBC’s News facility in Cairo is now up and running, delivering news to the broadcaster’s Egyptian viewers.
