CAD Wireless “Exceeds Expectations” At Park Inn Hotel In Costa Rica

Located in the heart of Costa Rica’s capital San Jose downtown near the bustling business district, the Park Inn Hotel already has seven expansive conference rooms and plans to add four more in the coming year.

Absolutely modern in design and implementation, the Park Inn features sophisticated A/V systems installed by Diseno Acustico (Acoustic Design), a leading local integrator. Besides providing background music and PA systems for the lobby, restaurants, ballrooms and bar/pool areas, these systems offer the latest audio and video conferencing capabilities for the expansive business center.

CAD Audio WX100 wireless systems are a technological centerpiece of the business center. As acoustic engineer and Diseno Acustico president Jose Torres Jimenez points out, “We used CAD Audio WX100 wireless microphone systems for all of the conference rooms, including the WX100A UHF receivers, WX155 belt packs, WX160 goosenecks and WX150 handheld transmitters. The wireless has to be flexible because all of the conference rooms have combining systems so they can be opened up into ballrooms for parties and dances.

“Over the years, we’ve tried other ‘leading’ brands,” Jose continues, “but after a test run in our own conference room, I found that CAD wireless systems work better and specified them for the Park Inn project. The CAD WX100 system is easy to use and install, lightweight and reliable, with good reception and sonic quality. I also really like the rugged and effective antennas.”

Besides CAD WX100 wireless, the Park Inn installation includes Bogen ceiling speakers and subwoofers; Atlas Sound amplification, Furman power conditioners; a NEC VideoWall, projectors and monitors; an FSR Pathfinder computer video & audio matrix switcher and intelligent plate systems; an Australian Monitor zone routing mixer; and Da-Lite recessed ceiling projection screens.

Founded four years ago, Diseno Acustico is fundamentally an acoustics consultancy with a core business of noise control, architectural acoustics, noise modeling and noise mapping. Recently, the company has created an integration and installation division to provide more tangible solutions for its clients. They currently have a mix of 60% commercial and 40% residential installations, with a marked preference for the former.

Summing up about the WX100 wireless systems at the Park Inn, Jose adds, “The hotel is very pleased and happy with the CAD systems. Everything is working just fine and, overall, the systems have exceeded our expectations.”

RTW to Support the IBC 2013 Show with Loudness Metering Tools

COLOGNE, 22, AUGUST 2013 – RTW (IBC Stand 8.D92), a leading vendor of visual audio meters and monitoring devices for professional broadcast, production, post production and quality control, is pleased to announce that it is providing the IBC 2013 show’s technology team with TM9 and TM7 TouchMonitor audio meters to support audio in the IBC Big Screen auditorium, as well as four TM3 TouchMonitor units to support the IBC News team’s live and studio coverage of the show.

“We have long assisted the IBC show with equipment from the RTW product portfolio and are happy to be doing so again this year,” says Andreas Tweitmann, CEO, RTW. “The IBC show represents the best and most advanced technology offerings in Europe within the broadcast industry. We are honored to have the show organizers select meters from our TouchMonitor line of products in order to help support the audio in the Big Screen auditorium, as well as for IBC News broadcasts.”

The IBC Big Screen auditorium, which debuted in 2003, will host several of IBC 2013’s top events, including the keynote presentations, awards ceremony, exhibitor and conference sessions, as well as free movie screenings for attendees. Designed to the IBC’s specifications, the auditorium is equipped for 4K and stereoscopic 3D digital projection and Dolby 7.1 surround sound audio.

The IBC technology team selected the RTW TM9 for signal monitoring in the IBC Big Screen projection booth. The TM9 will be equipped with several software modules, including RTW’s Multichannel Mode, Loudness and SPL Display, RTA Real Time Analyzer and SSA Surround Sound Analyzer.

“By utilizing the TM9, we will be able to check the audio’s signal path at various points within the system during any event being held in the Big Screen area,” says Terry Nelson, Technical Resources, IBC. “For us, it truly is ‘confidence monitoring.’”

In addition, Nelson and his team chose RTW’s TM7, equipped with RTW’s Multichannel Mode, Loudness and SPL Display, SSA (Surround Sound Analyzer) and Radar Display modules, to monitor signals alongside the Midas PRO 9 digital console surface used in the IBC Big Screen. While this version of the TM7 is equipped with the same analog and digital inputs and outputs as the TM9, for this application, as a general rule, the audio team only monitors the main eight outputs.

The four TM3 meters were selected for their similar capabilities, along with their more compact size, which is more suitable for use in the various production centers (including the master control room) that the IBC News team uses to broadcast its live and studio coverage from the show floor.

“The IBC News team specifically requested the compact-sized TM3s for the first time last year,” says Nelson. “They were impressed with the meters’ precision, reliability and ease-of-use, and have chosen to bring them back again this year to monitor the main signal outputs during broadcasts.”

The TM7 and TM9 feature seven- and nine-inch touch-sensitive displays, respectively, and provide unparalleled flexibility and modularity combined with intuitive control. The software visualizes multiple sources simultaneously. Both support displaying the same signal on multiple instruments in parallel, each with dedicated defaults, and the capability for both horizontal and vertical operation. The system visualizes up to 48 channels depending on the installed interface combination (analog, digital and 3G SDI). They also feature the innovative Magic LRA instrument, specifically designed by RTW for intuitive visualization of the loudness range and integrated-loudness parameters.

Controlled using a touch-sensitive display, the TM3 has a 4.3-inch touchscreen and a stylish exterior allowing for horizontal and vertical placement. It includes a large number of graphical and numerical instruments showing single-channel, stereo and multichannel audio. It also offers summing-loudness bargraphs, PPM, TruePeak, SPL, loudness range (LRA), dialnorm and correlation. It is a highly appealing compact solution ideal for editorial offices, edit suites and small control rooms. The TM3 also features the Magic LRA instrument, PPM and TruePeak instruments.

Along with the TM7, TM9 and RTW’s entire TouchMonitor range, the TM3 was created to help adhere to all major industry loudness standards, including EBU R128, ITU BS.1770-3/1771-1, ATSC A/85, ARIB and OP-59.

About RTW
For more than 45 years, Cologne-based RTW has accompanied the steady technological progress in the professional audio industry with innovative instruments and technologies for visual audio monitoring in broadcast, production, post production and quality control. Its state-of-the-art audio and loudness metering systems have an excellent reputation throughout the world. With groundbreaking products such as the Surround Sound Analyzer, the company has been a key vendor of professional broadcast and audio metering equipment for decades.

RTW’s range of products currently include the SurroundControl series for monitoring, controlling and routing stereo, multichannel and surround audio and the TouchMonitor range, which truly marks a paradigm shift in visual audio monitoring and loudness metering. Combining maximum flexibility and modularity with an intuitive touch-enabled surface and multichannel signal analysis, the TM7 and TM9 units are the essence of many years of experience. The attractively priced TouchMonitor TM3 entry-level system opens new markets, targeting applications such as journalist cubicles, edit suites and small control rooms.

As part of its expansion into the U.S. market, in 2013 RTW established RTW International Corp. in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The new office is the first U.S. location launched by RTW, showing the company’s dedication to supporting its customers and dealer networks in the U.S. The new U.S. office will house all customer service, repair and final product assembly activities for U.S.-based RTW customers.

Focusrite’s RedNet Systems Help World Revival Church Continue Reaching Out

RedNet 5 HD Bridge provides a simple, reliable interface between the FOH console and the Pro Tools HDX recording rig, while RedNet 3 provides the perfect solution for the church’s streaming initiative – all done over the
Dante® digital audio network

Los Angeles, CA, August 20, 2013 – Thanks to its extensive streaming initiative, the World Revival Church in Kansas City, Missouri, has spread its message to hundreds of thousands of people from the far corners of the world. In its current form since 2001, the ministry of Pastor Steve and Kathy Gray has grown to comprise the World Revival Church, Libby Lane Early Childhood Center, the World Revival Network, the World Revival Church Academy and the World Revival School of Ministry. Recently helping the church keep its outreach global and its message clear is RedNet, Focusrite’s flagship range of modular Ethernet-networked audio interfaces that harnesses the power of Audinate’s industry standard Dante® digital audio networking system to bring studio quality sound to any modern audio application.

Fundamentally RedNet is an extremely scalable, near zero latency audio distribution system that can be used to expand I/O channel count, interface digital components, and/or bridge between Pro Tools®|HD or MADI and the Dante audio network. RedNet systems can help anyone routing audio to streamline their workflow, is fully interoperable with any other Dante enabled products from other manufacturers and offers the company’s most advanced A-D/D-A conversion to date.

C.J. Drumeller, who supervises audio and other technologies for the church has been using a pair of RedNet 5 and a RedNet 3 audio interfaces to help propagate their message, forming a fully digital high quality audio reproduction and recording system. These were added as the finishing touches to a larger audio system upgrade that in the last several months saw Drumeller and Pastor Steve Gray oversee the installation of a new RoomMatch® loudspeaker system from Bose® Professional Systems Division and a new Yamaha CL5® digital FOH console in the main sanctuary, giving the church a fully digital signal path from stage to speaker. As a forward thinking Audio Professional, Drumeller recognized the Church’s need for networked audio, so the choice of the Yamaha console, which includes support for the Dante networking solution, was crucial. That would allow the use of the fully Dante-enabled RedNet interfaces to be critical links in the new all-digital signal chain.

The RedNet 3 unit interfaces existing digital audio systems and components to the Dante digital audio network, with up to 32 inputs and outputs. The unit includes support for AES, S/PDIF and ADAT digital audio formats and allows the RedNet system to be synchronized to incoming signal clock or a word clock source. RedNet 3 can be used to convert 32 channels of audio and deliver it anywhere else on the Dante network at near-zero latency.

“For three years we’ve been using an analog split from the FOH console to a Pro Tools® HD4 system to feed our growing streaming operation,” Drumeller explains. “We first began using the RedNet 3 interfaces for the IFB (interruptible feedback) connection between churches around the world that let us hold interactive services with them – our congregation worships along with their band and they do the same with our band.”

In addition to this the Church are also using two RedNet 5 units to bridge between the Dante network and their AVID® Pro Tools HD4 system. Up to six units can be connected to one Pro Tools HDX system, supporting up to 192 channels at 96KHz. RedNet 5 is fully interoperable with other Pro Tools interfaces and can be used with both older Pro Tools|HD systems and the very latest Pro Tools|HD Native or HDX systems.

“Before RedNet 5, we were using four Avid 192 I/O devices,” he recalls. “Now, just a pair of RedNet 5 interfaces gives us 64 I/O, more than we need at the moment, and with the ability to increase the I/O count as needed just by adding another RedNet 5. Everything is plug and play – we just put a RedNet unit anywhere we have an Ethernet port and we’re good to go,” illustrating how RedNet makes any workflow easier, simpler, more effective and more flexible.

Drumeller explains he’ll be able to continue using the high-end signal processors he likes so much, but instead of bringing them in via analog tie lines as he has been doing, he plans to use Dante-enabled devices to bring them directly onto the network with RedNet 2 interfaces. RedNet 2 incorporates Focusrite’s most advanced A-D/D-A convertors to date, providing 16 premium quality analog channels in and out of the Dante network and can be located anywhere there’s an Ethernet cable. “RedNet has made the workflow so much more flexible,” he says. “I don’t know of any other interface that does what RedNet has done for us.”

Seattle Cinerama Selects Christie for World’s First Permanent Cinema Laser Projection Installation

Purchase follows on heels of US FDA approval of variance for Christie, allowing the sale of laser projectors for use in cinema; notably the first and only such variance approved for a manufacturer of DCI-compliant cinema projectors

Christie®, a global leader in digital cinema projection, is pleased to announce that it has been chosen to supply and install the world’s first commercial digital laser projection solution at the Seattle Cinerama Theatre, located at 2100 4th Avenue in Seattle, WA. The purchase order is for a 4K Christie digital laser projector, with scalable light output up to 60,000 lumens.

“When hi-tech visionary Paul G. Allen bought the theater in 1999, he gave Cinerama full rein to innovate in order to provide our community with a cutting-edge movie going experience,” said Cinerama Theatre Manager Greg Wood. “Selecting a laser projection solution – with its ability to render 2D and 3D movies with stunning clarity and brilliant, accurate color rendition – is in keeping with this tradition.

“We were excited by demonstrations of the technology earlier this year by Christie and we are looking forward to welcoming this reliable and brilliant laser projector installation to our space.”

Christie recently received the first US FDA approval of variance allowing the sale of laser projectors for use in a cinema, which is the first and only such variance to date approved for a manufacturer of DCI-compliant cinema projectors.

Said Jack Kline, president & COO, Christie Digital Systems USA, Inc., “Cinerama has a long history of innovation and our latest projector will empower the theater to take the audience experience to the next level. A laser projector is a significant investment for any cinema and the fact that the Seattle Cinerama has chosen Christie to help this venue continue in its capacity as one of the world’s premiere movie theaters is a great vote of confidence.”

Site scoping and technical evaluations will begin in August, with an anticipated switch over from conventional digital projection to the latest Christie digital cinema laser projector planned for early next year.

Noted Dr. Don Shaw, senior director, Product Management, Christie Entertainment Solutions, “Cinerama’s huge screen requires the best and brightest in digital cinema projection technology, so it can demonstrate how spectacularly a moviemaker’s vision can be realized when shown at high contrast ratios and intense light levels. This in turn will yield an entirely new and naturally immersive experience for the average moviegoer and aficionados alike. We know that Christie laser projection will deliver beyond everyone’s already-high expectations.”

Christie Laser-Projection Timetable Continues Apace
Christie has a history of innovation without equal in the cinema technology world. For example, most recently and for two full weeks beginning March 28, 2013, Christie joined forces with AMC and Paramount Pictures to project G.I. JOE: RETALIATION in the ‘first’ commercial exhibition of a 3D movie at brightness levels of 14 foot lamberts (ft-L) using laser projection. It was the first ever opportunity for the general public to enjoy compelling, immersive 3D images delivered at 2D light levels.

As well, in 2012 Christie showed select exhibitors in Asia how 72,000 lumens could be achieved, in a demonstration of its prototype laser projector in Beijing. That screening followed the September showing at IBC 2012 in Amsterdam of Hugo 3D – the first CPG (Cameron Pace Group) certified movie –introduced by Dr. Shaw, along with noted stereographers, Demetri Portelli and Corey Turner (‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’). The movie was then projected using Christie’s 4K laser projector prototype.

Christie hosted its first laser projector demo for cinema industry luminaries including Douglas Trumbull, Gordon E. Sawyer Academy Award winner, at its High Frame Rate Summit held in its manufacturing and engineering headquarters in Kitchener, Ontario in April 2012.

Christie intends to introduce a wide range of laser projectors building on core technologies and architectures, to power applications for the digital cinema, pro AV, visualization and simulation markets, throughout 2013 and beyond.

About Seattle Cinerama
When Paul G. Allen heard in the mid-1990s that Seattle’s historic Cinerama Theatre might close down to become a rock-climbing club, dinner theater, or even a parking lot, he signed a “Save the Cinerama” petition—and later took it a step further by purchasing the old movie-house himself. Seattle’s Cinerama Theatre was one of many opened in the 1950s and 1960s for Cinerama films, technological marvels of their day which were shown on a curved screen utilizing a three-projector system.

In 1998, Vulcan kicked off a major, multi-million dollar renovation of the theatre, refurbishing the interior and exterior, installing state-of-the-art sound and projector systems, and ensuring maximum accessibility for mobility- and sensory-impaired patrons. A grand re-opening celebration took place on April 22, 1999 to welcome the theatre back into commission. Since then, it has regularly been voted one of Seattle’s “best places to watch a movie” and plays host to various film festivals and blockbuster film premieres each year. See www.cinerama.com for current show times.

Las Vegas, NV––On Stage Audio, a division of OSA International, Inc. is providing complimentary Martin Audio MLA training at its Las Vegas facility from September 3rd to the 6th.

These intense two-day sessions will provide attendees with the classroom and hands-on workshop training required to fully operate the MLA system. This comprehensive training covers every aspect of the use and deployment of Martin Audio’s multi-cellular loudspeaker technology and leads to MLA certification upon completion.

Attendees will receive training books and MLA software for reference and to support their continuing education. All attendees who complete the training will be entered into the M-TECH members’ portal system and have the opportunity to request a password for access to additional training information and participate in group discussions.

Asked about the training, OSA Vice President Jim Risgin stated, “Due to the increased market demand for MLA system deployment, we need to expand the available pool of certified system engineers. Offering these training sessions will ensure that we can support the demand for MLA cellular drive technology. Our philosophy at OSA has always been to offer continuing education to engineers, and we will be hosting additional training sessions at our Nashville and Chicago locations in the coming months.”
