AV Week Proclamations Issued by Governor Herbert and Mayor McAdams

InfoComm members’ petitions to the State of Utah and the County of Salt Lake to issue proclamations have been realized.

Bluffdale, Utah, USA — Listen Technologies Corporation today announced that the week of October 13-19, 2013, has been proclaimed “AV Week” by Utah Governor Gary Herbert and Salt Lake County Ben McAdams. Both proclamations state the impact of the audiovisual industry on everyday lives, noting AV applications in architecture, medicine, government proceedings, education, entertainment and business.

“The audiovisual industry affects everyone, every day” said Cory Schaeffer, Vice President of Sales Worldwide at Listen. “Anytime you walk into a school, church, theater, sports arena, shopping center, government office or other public venue, AV equipment is present to give you directions, help you hear better, enhance your visual experience, and improve communication with others.”

“It was my pleasure to sign the AV Week proclamation” commented Governor Herber as he met with InfoComm members. “The proclamation was a good reminder of the importance of AV in business and our daily lives.”

AV Week is presented by InfoComm International, a worldwide association serving the audiovisual industry. The association offers regular training and support to its members and sponsors the annual InfoComm trade show, which attracted over 50,000 attendees in 2013. InfoComm members in the State of Utah representing 40 companies and individuals include manufacturers, AV consulting and design firms, system integrators, and end users.

To raise awareness of AV Week, Schaeffer petitioned the State of Utah and the County of Salt Lake to issue proclamations. “We wanted Utahans to see how many companies in the state are involved with audiovisual technologies,” she said. “The AV industry is very healthy in Utah and benefits our economy not only through the technologies that are available, but also through job creation and revenues.”

Listen Technologies, along with other AV companies in Utah, will be participating in and hosting several events during AV Week (October 13 – 19, 2013). GENCOMM is planning their annual Tech Show on October 16 and Avidex is planning a Technology Tour of the new Adobe building on October 17. Point Source Audio’s SERIES8 Raises the Bar on Miniature Microphones

Designed with a variety of robust features, SERIES8 miniature microphones are tiny but tough, and now shipping worldwide

Point Source's SERIES8 Headset model is both collapsible and reversible, and available in beige or black.

Petaluma, CA — Point Source Audio (PSA), an innovator of the original and one-of-a-kind “unbreakable boom” microphone, today announced its SERIES8 miniature microphones are now officially shipping in three different styles: headset, earworn and lavalier. Created for use in broadcast, theater and live production, the new SERIES8 miniature microphones have recently been adopted by distinguished venues such as Universal Studios, Kravis Center, and Shiki Theater Company Tokyo, to name a few.

SERIES8 mics are setting a new standard for performance and durability in a micro size capsule. While the mic elements measure a mere 2-4 mm in diameter, the mics’ robust features are unlike any others on the market today. The omnidirectional microphones feature 148dB max SPL with an “Unbreakable Boom” bendable to 360°. In addition, they are IP57 waterproof rated against water, sweat and makeup, and feature interchangeable X-connectors for wireless compatibility on the spot.

The SERIES8 cardioid microphones are an ideal solution for performers who require isolation from surrounding performers. The cardioid mics perform best when placed just at the corner of the mouth, which also allows them to maintain an unobtrusive appearance when worn.

”I’ve been passionate about music for more than 30 years and believe there is nothing better than hearing audio at its finest,” stated James Lamb, President, Point Source Audio. “We’ve designed the SERIES8 miniature microphones to have unmatched performance and reliability in a very tiny package. With these standards, we’re confident the SERIES8 products will meet the needs of the most discriminating audio professionals.”

With an MSRP starting at $389, PSA’s SERIES8 miniature microphones are shipping now and are available for purchase at a number of resellers and distributors worldwide. More information about PSA’s various audio solutions can be found by visiting http://www.point-sourceaudio.com.

Pitbull’s Club Experience Tour “Global Warming” Is Hot With HARMAN’s Martin MAC Viper

AARHUS, Denmark — Production and Lighting Designer Justin Geiger of Impulse Creative Group has been handling the visual look on Pitbull’s live shows for nearly two years. For the rapper’s current “Global Warming” tour, Geiger has turned to HARMAN’s Martin MAC Viper family of moving heads to impress fans across the world.

Geiger is one of the first LDs in the U.S. to use the MAC Viper Quadray, Viper AirFX and Viper Profiles on the same stage. “The time it took from when we received the fixtures until they were up in the rig was literally only a few minutes,” Geiger says. “The Vipers look fantastic and work really well on this high-energy club show. I use other lights on tour and it’s such a relief to have Vipers because of the amazing gobos and optics. They’re some of the best I’ve seen.”

Geiger became familiar with the new family of luminaires through production house Complete Production Resources (CPR) of Orlando, who acquired the MAC Viper fixtures just prior to the tour.

CPR owner Kelly Greene explains why they went with Martin. “The Martin name was a big part of the decision-making process for the purchase. We wanted an industry-standard lighting product for our inventory. We have had great success with Martin in the past and are looking forward to the same with our new Viper products.”

Geiger was also the first in the U.S. to use the new MAC Viper Quadray – Martin’s new multi-beam moving head that allows for projection of up to four individually controllable rays of light. It’s available as an easy-to-install front lens replacement kit for any standard MAC Viper AirFX.

“Whenever we need something over the top, we turn to the Quadray’s unique multiple beams and fantastic gobos,” says Geiger. “It also doubles as a great wash when not using the Quadray effect.”

Geiger uses the Quadrays to “open up the stage” and likes the luminaire’s fat white beam and preprogrammed effects, which he uses at variable speeds. He has them placed on the floor, risers, wing trusses and on the main upstage truss.

“For its size and output these fixtures cannot be beat,” Director of Lighting Production Lucas Peterson said. “While on tour, we experienced very little maintenance over a 6-week run. It was a bit intimidating being the first company out with the Viper AirFX and Quadrays, but our fear quickly diminished after multiple shows with no issues. Jim Fuller and the Martin Professional team are outstanding!”

Video Director for the tour is Nate Selvidio of Impulse Creative Group.

Red TX Mixes the Audio for Morrissey’s New Film

Broadcast audio specialists Red TX played a pivotal role in the production of MORRISSEY 25: LIVE FROM HOLLYWOOD HIGH, recorded at Hollywood High, a legacy concert film that celebrates 25 years of this enigmatic performer’s solo career.

Filmed live at the Hollywood High School in Los Angeles in March 2013, this intimate gig provided the material for the first authorised Morrissey film to be released in nine years. Red TX worked closely with Nineteen Fifteen and Eagle Rock Productions, the producers for Eagle Rock Entertainment, to ensure a great soundtrack. As well as liaising closely with the US recording crew, the company was also responsible for mixing the concert – a task that took place back in the UK on board Red TX’s main Outside Broadcast vehicle, Red One, with director Tim Summerhayes at the controls.

Nineteen Fifteen producer Vicki Betihavas says: “I have worked with Tim and the Red TX team for many years and they are my first choice for all my music projects, in particular live shows. On this occasion we had entirely local support for the filming, with only the producer, director and DOP coming in from the UK. However, Red TX knew the audio crew in Los Angeles so I knew we were in safe hands as Tim and the US team coordinated what we needed. Tim also mixed the Theatrical, TV and DVD versions for us and the sound was great – as always.”

Tim Summerhayes adds: “I was really happy to be involved in this project. We arranged to have the concert recorded by Guy Charbonneau and his son Ian who run Le Mobile in Los Angeles. I’ve known Guy for years and was entirely confident that he would do a great job. The multitrack arrived back in the UK as a disc drive of .WAV files. I mixed it over a period of five days and it was a very straightforward task since the recording had been so well done. The band was excellent and, because it was a small venue, the sound was really honest.”

The film opens with tributes from fans who talk about their unwavering devotion to Morrissey. They also discuss the unique appeal of the unusual venue, which offered a striking contrast to the sold out arena concert at the Staples Center where Morrissey had played the previous night. Tickets for the concert in the 1,800-seater school auditorium were sold out in 12 seconds and this now legendary concert became Morrissey’s penultimate performance on his US Tour.

The project was completed in July in time for the film’s Global Theatrical release. Distributed by More 2 Screen (UK) and SpectiCast (North America) on behalf of Eagle Rock Entertainment, the film is still being shown in various territories and regions, particularly in the US where it is playing encore performances in many cities. The DVD/Blu-ray version will be released on October 21st 2013.
