DK-Technologies Unveils the Feature-Rich DK T7 Audio Meter

At IBC 2013 (8:E60) DK-Technologies will unveil the DK T7 – a high precision, multi touch interface Audio and Loudness meter that gives broadcasters more integral features and functionality than any other audio meter on the market.

Competitively priced at €3495 and USD5400, the DK T7 incorporates as standard every Audio and Loudness meter function currently offered by the award winning DK Meter range. These functions include Bargraphs, Moving Coil Emulation, DK-Technologies’ proprietary StarFish™ and JellyFish™ display technology, FFT spectrum analysis and, of course, industry compliant Loudness and Logging.

The new DK T7 also includes 3G SDI Picture Preview, as well as the ability to read and log against SMPTE time-code – a feature that has only recently been added to the DK Meter range.

Uffe Kjems, Product Marketing Director for DK-Technologies, says: “Engineers working in the broadcast and post production industries now have to cope with a complex set of formats, standards and documentation requirements. For this reason we felt it was vital to give them an easy to use Audio and Loudness meter that did the job it was bought for as soon as it came out of its box. The DK T7 is the most complete, high precision Audio and Loudness meter on the market today – and the most honest because it does not involve any hidden costs.”

The DK T7, which is on show at DK-Technologies’ IBC 2013 stand (Hall 8, Stand E.60) allows end-users to adapt to virtually any format including 3G SDI I/O. The unit also offers 8 AES/EBU input/output channels, 2ch Analogue input channels, headphone output and HDMI monitor output.

At just 20 x 135 x 180 mm (depth, height and width), the DK T7′s compact design allows it to be highly portable and easy to position, while its intuitive multi touch interface makes it very straightforward to use.

DK T7 is expected to ship in Q4 2013. For a demo and more information please visit DK-Technologies at IBC 2013 (8:E60) or visit www.dk-technologies.com.

THE BEAUTIFUL GAME: WATCHOUT ENGAGES AUDIENCES AT THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL MUSEUM

The National Football Museum in Manchester, UK reopened in July 2012 and exists to explain how and why football has become ‘the people’s game’, a key part of England’s heritage and way of life. Since its opening and vital to how the museum engages in storytelling, expert systems integrator D J Willrich (DJW) has deployed Dataton WATCHOUT™ multi-image display and presentation software to manage a variety of content across LCD displays in the Milestones gallery and in ‘Our Beautiful Game’, a 15.9 meter panoramic and immersive theatre. Mirage Associates, Dataton Premium Partner, UK and Ireland provided project support to DJW during the installation phases.

DJW was contracted to design, integrate, commission and programme the audio visual system, including full lighting design, as well as all of the exhibition electrical and audio visual cabling. Centre Screen Productions created all multimedia content for the project.

In explaining the client brief for multi-image display, David Willrich at DJW says: “The National Football museum wanted a fully interactive experience to give visitors a feel for what it’s like to be one of the superstars of football – from the pressure of scoring a penalty to the exhilaration of lifting the winners’ cup.”

WATCHOUT is used in the Milestones galleries showing football milestones on various LCD screens and which is buzzing with light and sound.

“Our Beautiful Game”, an immersive film capturing one month in the life of English football,” says Paul Kucharski, director at Centre Screen Productions. Here, WATCHOUT is used to map and edge blend content and projected images in a special theatre with a 15.9 metre curved screen showing the diversity of football.

“In these areas, WATCHOUT enables the film to be blended across a wide screen and helps the film portray the beautiful game in a powerful and striking way,” adds David Willrich.

Lars Sandlund, chief operating officer at Dataton adds: “Our technology has once again been deployed by DJW to engage and immerse audiences alongside a world-class home for the greatest collection of football memorabilia ever assembled.”

The National Football Museum was shortlisted for the Consumer Installation and AV/IT Project of the Year categories in the 15th AV Awards 2013 programme.

WATCHOUT AND PICKUP ENGAGE VISITORS AT ALLISON CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER

The multi-million dollar Allison Customer Experience (ACE) Center and Demonstration & Drive track in Hungary looked no further than D J Willrich (DJW) to install a multi-screen audiovisual spectacular that uses Dataton WATCHOUT™ multi-image display and presentation software to inform, engage and enthral VIP customers at ACE. As the presentation audio runs in English language, Dataton PICKUP™ audio guides are integrated with WATCHOUT offering VIPs a selection of eleven additional foreign languages or for VIPs wearing hearing aids. Mirage Associates, Dataton Premium Partner, UK & Ireland supported the DJW during the project installation phases.

VIP customers entering into the experience are provided with a background on the history of Allison Transmission. After the presentation, VIP customers then test drive a number of trucks on various courses including road and off road which are fitted with Allison Transmissions.

“WATCHOUT is used in the pre-show, main show and post-show areas and manages content and CGI sequences across multiple displays and screen sizes,” said David Willrich, Director, DJW.

“We selected PICKUP audio guides to run in sync with WATCHOUT for visitors who don’t speak English. VIPs can select from another eleven languages or use the system if they wear hearing aids using the ‘T’ function,” added David Willrich at DJW.

The pre-show film uses sophisticated post-production techniques to magically bring the company founder, James Allison, to life from a photograph of the 1909 Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He introduces visitors to the history of the company before they enter the main theatre show.

“The exciting multi-screen immersive theatre show utilizes a combination of both specially commissioned CGI sequences and live action footage filmed on location to demonstrate the benefits of using an Allison Transmission. The whole experience is further enhanced with a full 5.1 surround sound audio mix,” explains Paul Kucharski, director at Centre Screen Productions, responsible for all multimedia content and creation.

Lars Sandlund, chief operating officer at Dataton says: “ACE is a terrific example of how our WATCHOUT and PICKUP technology can be integrated and deployed to engage and immerse audiences.”

BHV Broadcast to Broaden Appeal of Syntax Up-Converter Series at IBC 2013

IBC Hall 4 Stand 4.C75

Syntax Will be Demonstrated with Closed Captions Capability for the First Time

Owslebury, UK – BHV Broadcast, BHV Broadcast, manufacturer of rate-converters, up-converters and the innovative coax-powering solution “Video Ghost” is to show integration with Microvideo’s technology at IBC2013, giving closed captions capability to BHV’s Syntax up-converter.

Across the globe, there is an ever-growing requirement in the industry for closed captions as part of the retention of metadata through the broadcast chain. Now broadcasters and producers can enjoy the benefit of Syntax’s unrivalled quality HD up-conversion with closed captions. BHV’s award-winning Syntax up-scaler integration with Microvideo’s HDB 300 bridge (which in itself provides simultaneous data management of control signals, trans-coding, decoding, bridging and copying) will allow broadcasters to utilise the artefact-free performance of the Syntax in distribution and production chains with massive metadata handling capability.

BHV Broadcast’s managing director, Julian Hiorns, says “We are delighted to announce the technology partnership with Cambridge-based Microvideo. The company really understands the needs of complex metadata workflows and is a great industry association for us.”

BHV’s Syntax and Syntax Essence continue to lead the field in picture quality with some viewers finding it nearly impossible to tell native HD from SD footage upscaled by Syntax. Syntax uses Super-Resolution Bandlet technology held by some to be the natural successor to Motion Compensation.

Last year it was revealed that the key BBC Drama strand “EastEnders “ uses Syntax to overcome the challenges of its aging production backlot.

PROFESSIONAL WIRELESS SYSTEMS PROVIDES INSPIRATION AT MEGAFEST 2013

When an estimated 75,000 people converged on downtown Dallas from August 29-31 for MegaFest, the nation’s largest inspirational family festival, Professional Wireless Systems (PWS), a Masque Sound Company and experts in supplying and supporting wireless systems for live and broadcast events, was on hand to provide all wireless equipment and frequency coordination for the multi-venue festival.

Produced by MegaFest Incorporated in conjunction with Mike Walker Creative, MegaFest is a family-friendly festival that brings together the best of T.D. Jakes Ministries, with conferences including Woman Thou Art Loosed, Manpower, MegaKidz and the Mega-Youth Experience. The festival featured inspiration, music, entertainment and seminars, along with appearances by Oprah Winfrey, Babyface, Joel and Victoria Osteen, Jennifer Hudson, Kerry Washington, Steve Harvey, Brandy, Ray Chew and other celebrity guests.

Oprah Winfrey’s Life Class kicked off the three-day festival, which took place at the American Airlines Center (AAC). The main program was broadcast from the AAC, with several other large events held at the Dallas Convention Center. PWS supplied all the wireless ENG gear as well, including Lectrosonics microphones and IFBs, to coordinate this multi-venue festival.

The package that was supplied by PWS included Shure Axient microphone systems and PSM1000 In Ear Monitor systems, as well as Telex BTR800 wireless communications for all events, at both locations surrounding the festival. In addition, PWS provided several of its own products, including its GX-8 Combiners, DB-8 Distribution Systems, and its Helical and Domed Helical Antennas.

While PWS provided all the wireless gear and coordination, the company worked closely with both Spectrum Sound and Crossroads Audio, who provided PA and monitor gear to the American Airlines Center and the Dallas Convention Center. PWS was responsible for coordinating nearly 400 frequencies between the two separate venues including eight performance spaces set up in the Dallas Convention Center, the constantly changing needs for media coverage, and the high level of DTV congestion throughout the Dallas area. PWS’s five-man crew worked closely with the festival’s main production company and the local sound companies at each venue to ensure the coordination of all wireless microphones, in-ear monitors and show communications were flawless.

“Having worked with Mike Walker in the past at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas, we were glad that he decided to contact us for our wireless gear and expertise for an event of this scale,” says Jim Van Winkle, general manager of PWS. “Being able to provide the equipment and services for an event of this size and scope is what we do best, and the fact that the event went as smoothly as it did is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the PWS team.”
