6. IP Video Traffic Shaping Technology for Optimal Video Over Public Internet – DOZERbox IP IP
The DOZERbox IP IP offers dependable distribution of MPEG-2 or H.264 SPTS or MPTS transport streams over average quality internet backbones. Typically sold in pairs, the DOZERbox gateways enable Telco TV providers and IPTV operators to improve their video distribution over the public internet. Customers in the USA use Dozer technology to import video content from Greece, Iraq, Colombia, and Bangladesh – with no packet loss or video freezes, and lower latency.

Based on the Intel® NUC, the newest DOZERbox is just over four and a half inches wide. It is also available in a 1RU version — the DOZERbox R — and as a software application to add on to DVEO’s encoder and gateway appliances — the Media Dozer: LIC.

7. IP Unicast to Multicast Converter and HLS Repackager – Proxicaster IP/IP
Designed for Telco stream protocol adaption, IPTV multicasting, or HLS repackaging, the Proxicaster IP/IP is an IP Unicast to Multicast Converter and HLS repackager for moving streams more efficiently in private and public networks. It receives unicast or multicast IP transport streams and multicasts them over an IP Network to many different computers. This unit also works well as a stream repackager that chunks transport streams to HLS. It supports 80 streams of 5 Mbps each or any combination of bitrates up to 400 Mbps aggregate.

8. Scheduled Playout Server with IP In and Out – Infinity Streamer (mini) .5T/50ch
Ideal for video hosting, the Infinity Streamer is a multichannel media capture and playout server for continuous streaming. The system plays content via playlist or single file on a schedule. It streams multiple output protocols from the on board .5 TB hard drive. The Infinity Streamer outputs up to 50 IP streams at the same time, with different bit rates and wrappers for each stream. Telco operators can create their own 50 “streaming” web channels with 50 different programs or content playing on a preset schedule.

“We are excited to be showing leading edge products at TelcoVision,” said Laszlo Zoltan, Vice President of DVEO. “We’ve developed our systems with lots of options to meet the needs of our Telco TV customers. And we are very open to customizing our products.”

Kentucky Mega-Church Reaches the Next Generation with Video Captured Using FUJINON Lenses

Wayne, N.J.Southland Christian Church near Lexington, Kentucky is one of a new breed of mega-churches, investing in the next generation by acquiring sophisticated new video technology, including FUJINON lenses from FUJIFILM North America Corporation’s Optical Devices Division. Founded in 1956, Southland has grown to become one of the state’s largest churches, with three sprawling campuses and attendance averaging 12,000 worshipers each week. Just as its size and scope have expanded, so have its needs for state-of-the-art video broadcast and production technology to help reach its huge audience and provide a moving experience. Now, as Southland makes its transition from standard definition to HD broadcasts, it has turned to FUJINON lenses for the high quality, yet economical, centerpiece to its new system.

As with all churches its size, Southland relies on image magnification to capture every nuance of the service, even for worshippers in the very back row. Two FUJINON XA50x9.5BESM HD Telephoto Box-style lenses provide the critical tight shots at long distances that make the service come alive. In addition, two ZA22x7.6BERM HD Telephoto ENG-style lenses offer the flexibility of mobile and remote image capture, while the ZA12x4.5BERM HD Super Wide Angle ENG/EFP lens lets the church display the big picture incorporating every element of the service. All three zoom lenses deliver DigiPower servo control for remote control of zoom, focus and iris, along with digital Quick Zoom to maximize impact and message delivery.

The lenses complement newly purchased Grass Valley LDK-3000 cameras as well as new switching and control equipment, allowing the 11-member production team to respond quickly to the demands of a large, complex live event. In addition, Southland streams the IMAG, plus images of the interior of the sanctuary, to three giant screens at its satellite campuses. There, live bands perform on huge stages to accompany the simulcast. The church also records these sermons and other video content for its Southlandonline.tv television ministry, which broadcasts for both television and web viewing. In all of these applications, the church has grown to rely on FUJINON lenses and their fast T-stops, quality coatings, and exact color matching.

Southland’s programming director, Mike Vandemark, noted that, to meet the challenge of multiple-location services, the events must be precisely timed and choreographed. Every piece of equipment must be highly reliable and technically precise. With their upgraded video capabilities, he said, “The video and audio capture, transport and control are now on the same level as a sizable remote broadcast truck. And the investment in our new video system has paid off handsomely.” A vibrant, growing community of worshippers clearly agrees, responding enthusiastically to the church’s contemporary style, as well as its use of innovative technology to reach its flock.

Prism Sound Helps Composer John Lunn Create His Unique Sound

Noted TV and film composer John Lunn has recently acquired a Prism Sound/Maselec MEA-2 analogue equaliser, which he has been using to create the score for the ITV/Carnival Films and Television period drama Downtown Abbey.

Lunn, who received Emmys in 2012 and 2013 for Downton Abbey, has a highly intelligent and sensitive approach to sound that allows his compositions to hit at the emotional heart of a piece. His award tally also includes an RTS Award in 2010, nominations for a BAFTA and Ivor Novello for Sky’s Going Postal and a BAFTA Award for the BBC Dickens adaptation, Little Dorrit. Classically-trained yet contemporary in attitude, he combines the highest production values with a continual desire to discover new colours and sounds, and is continuously in great demand.

Lunn’s audio setup embraces an eclectic mix of equipment, which has been assembled to suit his needs.

“Most of it analogue, as I’m not convinced by digital emulations,” he explains. “A couple of months back, I bought the Maselec MLA-2 tri-band compressor for a project I was working on, The White Queen, which used lots of low percussion and sound design, plus a real orchestra. However, the mastering EQ I had been using up to that point suddenly needed repair and I thought I would take the opportunity to try a few things out.”

As an existing Prism Sound user – he already owns a Prism Sound ADA-8XR multichannel converter and an Orpheus FireWire interface – Lunn needed little persuading to try the company’s Maselec MEA-2. Once he did, he says it was immediately obvious that this was the Equaliser he was looking for.

He explains: “It was particularly relevant for Downton Abbey where I needed a very clean and totally transparent treble boost for the piano and strings to cut through the dialogue. KMR gave me the unit to demo and it worked immediately with absolutely no problems.”

Lunn says that he now uses his MEA-2 unit as mastering EQ for all of his film and TV work. The latest series of Downton Abbey, mixed using Lunn’s MEA-2, has been a runaway ratings hit, peaking at 10.4m viewers, a 39.4% market share of the British TV market (source: The Hollywood Reporter).

Prism Sound’s MEA-2 is a stereo or two-channel, four-band precision analogue equaliser with stepped Q/shelf, frequency and cut/boost controls on each band. Designed for recording and mastering applications where ultimate sonic performance, musicality and precision are required, it provides fully-stepped controls for precision and repeatability, across all parameters.

The MEA-2 is extensively used in mastering but also works well on an insertion point in recording or mixing. The MEA-2 features a fine 0.5dB gain adjustment at low cut/boost settings, and a maximum cut/boost per band of 8dB. The MEA-2 can provide precise equalisation with minimal side effects, as it is designed to provide a very transparent signal path where only the desired equalisation effect is obtained without adding any particular sonic signature.

Neglab Reopens in Australia in Response to Demand for Film Processing

Veteran Facility Owner Werner Winkelmann Will Oversee Motion Picture Film Processing

(SYDNEY, Australia) Neglab, a motion picture film laboratory for processing 35mm and 16mm color negative, will reopen its doors later this month, providing high-quality film processing services to the region. Werner Winkelmann, original owner of the facility, has over 25 years of experience working in the lab industry and brings extensive expertise to the entire imaging chain.

“All of us at Neglab are thrilled to re-engage with the filmmaking community and provide outstanding lab services for the region,” says Winkelmann, co-founder and technical operations manager. “We are poised to provide unparalleled services, and have brought together a staff of professionals with incredible knowledge and a dedication to superior quality control standards.”

A recognized expert in the laboratory business, Winkelmann has been involved in building ECN2, ECP2 and ECP3, and black-and-white processors throughout his career. Joining him at Neglab will be Herbert Stegbauer, director and owner of Stegbauer Pty., manufacturer and supplier of film processing equipment. Stegbauer started his career at Colorfilm and later co-founded Filmlab Engineering. Neglab will operate out of Stegbauer’s factory. Together, Winkelmann and Stegbauer have assembled a team of experts with over 80 years of experience in the film industry.

Neglab has been designed to provide superior motion picture laboratory services to filmmakers, installing the latest design magnetic drive processor, and surpassing standards for cleanliness. The backup and safety systems on Neglab’s processor ensure trouble free operation and perfect processing of 35mm and 16mm color negative formats.

“Customer service is a priority for us,” adds Winkelmann. “We know that labs need to be responsive to filmmakers. We offer location pick up and handling anywhere within the Sydney central business district, and all rushes will be quickly delivered directly to the production’s telecine facility of choice. We can also arrange Interstate shipments at reasonable rates, when requested by the customer.”

Neglab originally opened in July 1997, and briefly suspended operations a few years ago based on industry economics. But with today’s production landscape and a resurging choice by filmmakers to originate on film, Winkelmann saw an opportunity to reopen.

For more information on Neglab, contact w.winkelmann.48@gmail.com, or call +0409.928.117.

First Sale of Calrec Callisto Console Goes to Wisconsin’s Token Creek Mobile Television

Token Creek Also Purchases Artemis Beam Desk

HEBDEN BRIDGE, U.K. — Oct. 10, 2013 — Calrec has sold its first Callisto audio console, a new console making its U.S. debut at AES, to outside broadcast (OB) company Token Creek Mobile Television. The Wisconsin-based OB company also purchased a Calrec Artemis Beam console. The Callisto will be installed in a new truck destined to cover high school and college sports and corporate and entertainment events, among others. The Artemis Beam has been installed in an existing HD unit that covers a wide variety of sports and entertainment events.

“We have two other Calrec desks besides the Artemis Beam and the Callisto, and we’ve always been very happy with them, so when we decided to build new trucks, Calrec was our first choice,” said Brendan Clark, Token Creek’s director of engineering. “Calrec consoles have become widely accepted in our market, so not only do our own operators like them, but freelancers get comfortable using them in a very short time. They also give us the features and flexibility to meet whatever specs our clients require. The Callisto, in particular, will allow us to serve clients who want high production value in a more cost-effective truck.”

Token Creek ordered a Callisto console with 44 faders and a 64 x 64 mic/line, 72 AES, and four MADI I/O configuration, as well as a GPIO control option. The Callisto’s streamlined, efficient design makes it especially suited to the new truck, which Token Creek is building to accommodate clients with smaller budgets who want a high-quality product but don’t need all the resources of Token Creek’s other HD trucks. Each of the console’s channel strips has only the most essential mechanical controls, featuring a fader, two flexible control cells, and a dedicated gain pot. Callisto uses Calrec’s award-winning Bluefin2 networking technology at its core, and the same integral 8192 x 8192 Hydra2 router as Calrec’s Apollo and Artemis consoles. It also has a highly intuitive GUI suitable for a broad range of operator skill levels.

The Artemis Beam console has been installed in Token Creek’s Chippewa HD mobile unit. It is a 64-fader console configured for 256 x 256 MADI, 128 x 128 AES, and 64 x 64 analog I/O, giving Token Creek the flexibility to take in 16 channel sources, mix them efficiently, and distribute them easily in and out of the router. Token Creek uses the console’s many main outputs to generate different program and transmission mixes, and the company finds the Bluefin2 networked I/O and flexibility of the control surface especially helpful.

“By adding two more Calrec consoles to its fleet, Token Creek now has the capability to serve just about any size production or budget,” said Henry Goodman, Calrec’s head of sales and marketing. “The Callisto gives Token Creek a cost-effective console with all the features and reliability it has come to rely on from Calrec. Selling the first Callisto console to a long-time customer such as Token Creek is especially gratifying because it tells us they have the continued confidence to invest in our newest products.”

The Callisto console will make its U.S. debut at AES 2013, where it will be on display with the Artemis Beam and the rest of the Calrec line. Callisto will begin shipping in spring 2014. Information about Calrec and its products is available at www.calrec.com and www.community.calrec.com.

RTI Hosts Global Partner Summit 2013

International Partners From 15 Countries and Six Continents Attend Second Annual Event

SHAKOPEE, Minn. — Oct. 10, 2013 — Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI) announced that in the wake of its highly successful showing at CEDIA EXPO 2013, the company hosted the RTI Global Partner Summit 2013 in its hometown of Shakopee, Minn. The second annual event was held from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, and included attendees from 15 countries and six continents.

“We had an amazing time with our international partners during last year’s inaugural RTI Global Partner Summit and have been looking forward to this year’s event ever since. It certainly didn’t disappoint,” said Pete Baker, vice president of sales and marketing for RTI. “The event is a nice blend of education and fun, with informative seminars and the opportunity to enjoy time with our colleagues outside of the office as well. It also gives our partners the ability to meet RTI staff in person, see the inner workings of our headquarters, and gives them direct access to all levels of our organization. It is an extremely valuable experience for all parties and a great way to cap off CEDIA.”

The Global Partner Summit 2013 included some of the company’s most valued international partners, who attended seminars covering a broad range of subjects — including RTI products, programming, sales strategies, and more — from a variety of presenters. The seminars were combined with fun-filled, mid-western-style evenings to welcome RTI’s guests to the Twin Cities.

“For me the RTI Global Summit is an event not to miss. It provides an extremely valuable opportunity to share ideas and goals amongst partners and friends of RTI,” said Joe Barhoush, president of GES Ltd. “In addition, we gain an outlook of what lies ahead for RTI and the company’s innovative solutions. I know we all appreciate the hospitality and experience provided by RTI. I can’t wait for next year’s summit!”

RTI products are now available from authorized representatives in more than 100 different countries. More information about the company and its products is available at www.rticorp.com.
