LifeChurch.tv Continues Expansion, Exclusively Installing HARMAN’s Martin Lighting Fixtures In Venues Across United States

EDMOND, Oklahoma — With 17 locations across five states, LifeChurch.tv hosts more than 50,000 attendees a week during high-intensity services, complete with house bands and exciting sermons. The majority of the 165 services per week throughout LifeChurch.tv are lit with HARMAN’s Martin lighting fixtures. Steinas Systems continues to provide LifeChurch.tv with its lighting gear for a full inventory of lighting and a backup supply to keep the services bright, both in person and online.

“Our services are eye-catching from both the audience and technical side. The worship music portion of our services is similar to what someone would experience at a concert,” states Greg Bacus, Central Team Leader of Technology, LifeChurch.tv. “With Martin, we’re able to deliver what we need for each service in each location, providing a fixture that’s superior quality, cutting edge, and at a price point affordable for houses of worship. By standardizing all of our worship sites with an arsenal of Martin, we can facilitate addressing any down fixtures immediately.”

LifeChurch.tv uses a vast amount of Martin fixtures, including the RUSH series, MAC 101’s, MAC 250’s, MAC 600’s, MAC Manias and Wizards, and Tripix, among others. Six of the LifeChurch.tv facilities also boast HARMAN’s JBL VRX line array elements for sound reinforcement: Tulsa, Fort Worth, Keller, South Oklahoma City , Northwest Oklahoma City and Studio B at its Central Offices.

LifeChurch.tv has 12 venues in Oklahoma, two in Texas, one in Tennessee, one in upstate New York, and one in Florida. Per campus, the technical team uses approximately 30 Martin lighting fixtures, resulting in over 500 active lights, with a va amount of spare pieces ready to be deployed in the case of a failed unit. The church’s “hub and spoke” model allows for immediate response and swap on a downed fixture.

The dynamic church services also integrate video throughout all locations.

“There is a relationship between a manufacturer and the end-user, and Martin’s attention to the house of worship market’s needs sets them apart from others,” continued Bacus. “The difference was clear before and after we decided to work with Martin years ago. The efficiency of the fixtures in power, affordability and standardization are impressive and help make our services visually engaging.”

Hearing is Believing at Grace Evangelical Church

Whether it’s listening to the pastor give the sermon or the choir performing, sound distribution at church services is crucial to maximizing the entire congregation’s worship experience. For Grace Evangelical Church, a 2,000-member church located in the Germantown area near Memphis, Tenn., the unique design of its Worship Center, in tandem with its aging and increasingly inadequate technology, was impeding the audio quality of the church’s weekly service. To address the situation, Grace tapped Elite Multimedia, a professional sound, lighting, and video company based in Memphis.

“While aesthetically pleasing, our fan-shaped sanctuary has presented a number of challenges over the years when it comes to delivering a superior audio experience during church services,” said Carl Caspersen, Minister of Music and Media at Grace Evangelical Church. “We called in Elite Multimedia to help alleviate the issues we were having and were blown away by the solution and service they provided.”

Using a variety of lines from L-Acoustics, including the new Kiva system, Elite Multimedia designed a new sound system to provide full coverage while achieving optimal clarity to support Grace Evangelical Church’s worship and spoken word. To support the Kiva system, Elite also installed the new SB15m subwoofer extension, two SB18 units behind the arrays, ARCS enclosures for side fill, 8xt for delay fills and four 5xt coaxial speakers to fill in the front area. The entire system is powered by a total of four L-Acoustics amplifiers, with Elite utilizing the DSP within the amps to achieve time alignment and filters.

“The biggest challenge for us was the structure above the drywall ceiling,” stated Wade Russell, Relationship Manager at Elite Multimedia. “There was limited space from the deck of the roof to the drywall, so that presented limitations in means of access to be able to properly fit the rig points for the new system. We only had about 2′ to 2.5′ clearance from drywall to ceiling deck. So our rigging team came up with a game plan to install an access panel door in the drywall and was able to get it done.”

According to Caspersen, the difference in performance and distribution was immediately noticeable to Grace churchgoers.

“You’ve got a few people who are actually hearing a kick drum for the first time,” Caspersen commented. “We’re not trying to win any volume awards; we’re just trying to provide our members with a solid representation of what is happening on stage and the solution that Elite came up with is delivering exceptional results.”
To supplement the sound reinforcement they installed, Elite integrators chose the Midas Pro2 console operating on Digital AES and at a sample rate of 96k.

“The clarity and imaging is impressive to hear,” Caspersen remarked. “In keeping with the vision of the leadership team, the goal wasn’t to be louder, it was to professionally proclaim what is so important to us, both musically and in the spoken word. The Elite team put together an unbelievable solution that we are extremely pleased with. We look forward to working with them on additional projects. ”

Electrosonic Captures Second Consecutive AV Award for Consumer Installation of the Year

At a gala dinner on October 11 at the London Hilton, Electrosonic took home the AV Award for Consumer Installation of the Year for the second year in a row. This time the award was for Electrosonic’s work on The Siemens Crystal, a sustainable cities initiative by the global electronics and electrical engineering powerhouse.

Electrosonic has won a total of 27 AV Awards since the honors began in 1999. The AV Awards are managed by UK-based AV Magazine but judged independently by senior representatives from user companies and key industry players. They are considered to be one of the most prestigious AV industry awards in the UK.

The Siemens Crystal features extensive AV systems engineered and installed by Electrosonic. Located at London’s Royal Victoria dock, it serves as home to Siemens’ Center of Competence – Cities, a team of multi-disciplinary urban experts. Its public face is a 21,500-square foot interactive exhibition, which guides visitors through the urban infrastructure of the future by examining the possibilities for sustainable mobility, building technologies, power and water supplies, and healthcare. Electrosonic’s support ranged from the entrance to the Crystal to ten exhibit zones and a concluding presentation.

“Once again we are proud to have been awarded the honour of Consumer Installation of the Year,” says Sarah Joyce, VP EMEA. “The Siemens Crystal features innovative interactive exhibits designed to inform the public about the sustainability of cities and how they’re meeting the challenges of security, clean water, energy, transportation, carbon dioxide levels and access to healthcare. Ultimately, it’s an optimistic panorama of what the city of the future could look like if the ideas presented in The Crystal were to be applied. Electrosonic is delighted to have played a part in this meaningful view of the urban society of tomorrow.”

The Crystal was designed by Wilkinson Eye, Architects with Pringle Brandon the interior/fit out architect. Exhibit fabrication was by The Hub; content for the AV and interactive exhibits was created by ISO, All of Us, Clay, Squint Opera, Spirit Link, B12 and Siemens Software. Additional content was produced by Event Communications and Siemens, with exhibit lighting design by DHA Design.

Last year Electrosonic won AV Award honors for its AV support of The Parlamentarium, the European Parliament’s Visitors’ Centre and the first multimedia-rich exhibition to be fully accessible in 24 languages.

YCD Multimedia Announces Integration of its Retail Advertising and Merchandising Platform (YCD|RAMP) with Google Web Designer

New York, October 22, 2013 – YCD Multimedia, a leading global provider of smart digital signage solutions, today announced an innovative workflow for YCD|RAMP (the company’s proprietary Retail Advertising and Merchandising Platform) with Google Web Designer, a free tool for creating HTML5 pages, banner ads, and widgets launched by Google last month. This well-received tool represents a breakthrough in simplicity and advertisement-oriented focus compared to existing solutions.

YCD has created a seamless workflow for importing Google Web Designer projects directly into RAMP, enabling YCD customers to create templates (the basis for RAMP branded designs) themselves without needing costly HTML or Flash Studio services.

By tagging media and text in GWD, customers can take advantage of RAMP’s dynamic data features (pricing, product images, call to action, and more). Upon import, RAMP identifies and associates these tags with RAMP dynamic objects, and creates “native” RAMP templates that are immediately available to user. To ensure users can “hit the ground running”, sample HTML5 projects are provided with this integration.

“With the introduction of Google Web Designer, our R&D team quickly realized the importance of finding ways for our users to use this powerful tool as part of their digital signage workflow in RAMP,” said Eran Sharon, VP of Product Management, YCD Multimedia. “Google Web Designer brought great advertising-focused HTML5 design tools to the world. With our new integration update for RAMP we are excited to put these tools to work in a new way making template creation by YCD customers fast, simple, and free.”

About YCD|RAMP

YCD|RAMP (Retail Advertising and Merchandising Platform) addresses the needs and challenges of retailers, offering them, their agencies and suppliers a comprehensive platform to create, manage, and deliver branded marketing campaigns and targeted product promotions that assist consumer behavior retail processes and influence their buying decisions.

Using RAMP’s innovative product-centric approach, marketing teams can quickly and easily deploy product updates, campaigns and advertisements. Smart templates and RAMP’s intuitive interface differentiate price and promotion by location and time. Promotions can be sent to one, some, or all locations using “presets”, ensuring correct and timely campaigns and updates and 100% compliance with brand guidelines.

Authorized store managers or regional managers can manage corporate-approved campaign slots and make real-time updates based on local criteria, such as weather, events/promotions, or inventory levels. POS integration adds real-time upsell/cross sell capability, inventory tracking, and most importantly analysis and optimization of content effectiveness and ROI.

YCD|RAMP comes preconfigured with templates optimized for retailers’ needs including “attract” screens, digital menu boards, point-of-sale impulse (“AdScreens”), shopper assistance, shelving/counter, and brand loyalty displays. Additional templates can be created using Flash or HTML5, and RAMP can also import and automatically recognize HTML5 projects created in Google Web Designer – a free advertising-focused HTML5 content creation tool.

Sam Nord of Listen Technologies to Present at HLAA of San Francisco

Sam Nord of Listen Technologies will be delivering a presentation on legislative compliance and assistive listening technologies to the San Francisco chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) on November 9, 2013.

Salt Lake City, Utah, USA— Sam Nord of Listen Technologies will be visiting the San Francisco Chapter meeting of the Hearing Loss Association of America on November 9, 2013 to present on assistive listening technologies with an emphasis on Hearing Loop. Nord’s presentation will focus on the latest updates to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and how these updates apply to assistive listening systems, including Hearing Loops.

The presentation will also address trends in hearing aids, what venues need to know about accommodating people with hearing loss, why Hearing Loop is the preferred assistive listening technology and the growing Loop America movement.

Hearing Loops deliver direct and personalized sound to people with smart hearing aids (hearing aids equipped with telecoils) and people with cochlear implants by working with an individuals’ settings on their device.

“I am extremely honored and excited to have the opportunity to present to the San Francisco Chapter of the HLAA to discuss the latest technologies to improve hearing and communication, as well as to inform those in the hearing loss community of the latest updates to ADA law as it regards the requirements for assistive listening systems,” said Nord. In March of 2012, the changes that were made to the ADA related to assistive listening in 2010 went into full effect. These changes state that an assistive listening system must be provided in each assembly area where audible communication is integral to the use of the space. Hearing Loops are a type of assistive listening system.

Hearing Loops, which are quite common overseas, are just starting to gain more popularity in the US due to better installation standards. “It is always a pleasure to be able to discuss technologies like Hearing Loops, because they can drastically improve the quality of people’s lives,” noted Kenny Andrews, President SF Chapter HLAA. “We appreciate Sam’s willingness to meet with our group.” The presentation will be given on Saturday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the San Francisco Chapter meeting at The Sequoias, 1400 Geary Boulevard, San Francisco, CA. The presentation is free and open to the public.

BTV Post Completes World’s First 4K Digital Cinema Frame Rate Conversion From 25p to 24p With Snell’s Alchemist OD

Post-production Company Uses Snell’s Alchemist OD to Convert Muse 4K Ultra HD Concert

READING, U.K. — Oct. 21, 2013 — Stadium rockers Muse recorded their concert in Rome’s Olympic stadium in July this year in breathtaking 4K. Serpent Productions recorded the gig in both HD and 4K simultaneously using Sony F55 cameras. The decision to post-produce a 4K cinema version rested on whether it was at last possible to get a high enough quality standards conversion at a low frame rate and in 4K. BTV Post successfully managed both using Snell’s new Alchemist OD file-based standards conversion platform to convert the concert with stunning results. Alchemist OD was used for the entire conversion, which dovetailed seamlessly with BTV’s 4K Mistika post-production pipeline.

“This sets a new benchmark for the conversion of performance content for digital cinema, and films for television and DVD, without ever needing to slow down or speed up again,” said BTV Post CTO Jon Lee. “Working closely with Snell’s engineering team, we have come up with workflows to get a low frame rate conversion that is virtually indistinguishable from the original content.”

The Muse concert will be released in U.K. cinemas in 4K on Nov. 5, 2013. More information about Muse is available online at http://film.muse.mu/gb/.

Dubai World Trade Centre Debuts Meyer Sound LEO at Music Week

The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) recently introduced its new Meyer Sound LEO™ linear large-scale sound reinforcement system during Dubai Music Week. Featuring a lineup that included will.i.am, Selena Gomez, and Timbaland, the event programs were held at the DWTC Arena.

DWTC’s system marks the first LEO purchase in the Middle East. “LEO stood true to its specifications in uniformity, extended frequency response, and sheer power,” says Ashley A. Rodrigues, DWTC’s manager of technical production. “There was very little that needed to be tweaked. The response was linear and transparent throughout the arena, and we measured levels of 116 dBA continuous at 65 meters from the stage.”

The system at Dubai Music Week comprised left and right main arrays of nine LEO-M line array loudspeakers over three MICA® line array loudspeakers as down fills, supported by dual flown cardioid arrays of nine-each 1100-LFC low-frequency control elements. Five MILO® line array loudspeakers on each side supplied out fill, and the entire system was driven by a Galileo® Callisto™ loudspeaker management system with two Galileo Callisto 616 array processors and two Galileo 616 processors. On-stage foldback was supplied by 12 MJF-212A stage monitors, four MINA™ line array loudspeakers, and one 700-HP subwoofer.

“I have heard practically all the other high-quality brands on the market, and LEO’s quality stands above the rest,” says Rodrigues. “It engulfs you in a way that is difficult to express, but a pleasure to experience. The system certainly did justice to the excited crowd of 8,000—in fact, all the performers’ FOH engineers reported that they were awed by LEO’s performance.”

DWTC’s LEO system will be used for all large-scale concert events inside the complex, and will also be available as a rental system for major events throughout the Emirates.

Dubai Music Week brought famed luminaries of popular music together for a program that included the Quincy Jones Seminars, the MIDEM Music Conference, the Pepsi Bandslam, and major concerts by Bollywood and Arabic star performers, in addition to the headliner shows.

The DWTC is a multi-faceted business complex that encompasses office towers along with world-class event facilities for conferences, conventions, exhibitions, and entertainment.

Meyer Sound Constellation at Cohan Center Facilitates Communication for Musicians

Home of the San Luis Obispo Symphony, the 1,289-seat Christopher Cohan Center has recently installed a Meyer Sound Constellation® acoustic system. Featuring a retractable active acoustic canopy formed by 40 miniature loudspeakers, the Constellation system provides an environment that helps musicians hear each other better and hence improve their sense of ensemble.

“The orchestra plays on a thrust stage in front of the proscenium, under a very high ceiling,” explains Fred Vogler, principal sound designer at Sonitus, a Los Angeles-based audio and video consulting firm that handled venue demo, as well as the design and commissioning of the final system at the Cohan Center. “The distance between the orchestra and the walls and ceiling created the opportunity for Constellation’s virtual canopy to add early reflections to the stage and front seating areas. The result is improved communication among the musicians and conductor.”

Jim Black, executive director of the San Luis Obispo Symphony, says: “The reaction of the musicians has been remarkable. Now they are just beaming at one another while playing. Their ability to hear other parts of the ensemble has been greatly enhanced, and this has improved their overall performance.”

Constellation has also enhanced the overall audience experience. “Now you can hear more subtleties, and the sound just blooms better,” says Black. “There’s more color to the orchestra without it sounding at all amplified.”

The installed system is driven by a D-Mitri® digital audio platform with six processors, including two that run the patented VRAS™ acoustical algorithms. Completing the system are 16 suspended compact cardioid microphones, a combination of 40 Stella-8C installation loudspeakers, UP-4XP 48 V loudspeakers, and UPJunior™ VariO loudspeakers, and six UMS-SM subwoofers. Both the microphones and Stella-8C loudspeakers are suspended by small lift motors, allowing the system to be raised out of sight with the press of a button when not in use.

Fred Vogler worked with the venue, orchestra, and integrator on the final design and implementation of the Constellation system. Vogler also designed a new sound reinforcement system for the hall, in collaboration with Roger Phillip, the center’s audio lead. The system is anchored by twin arrays of 11-each MICA® line array loudspeakers, and includes two UPQ-2P, eight UP-4XP, and six UPJunior loudspeakers as corner, front, and balcony fills, respectively. Low end is supplied by eight 600-HP subwoofers. Installation was handled by the Los Angeles office of Miami-based integrator Pro Sound & Video.

Located on the campus of California Polytechnic State University, The Performing Arts Center, San Luis Obispo incorporates two venues: the Christopher Cohan Center, housing the main concert hall and two smaller halls; and the 498-seat Alex & Faye Spanos Theatre.
