New Liberal Arts College Opens its Gates with TecPodium Interactive Lecterns

Standard and consistent classroom technology is every College dream. Shalem College is a new Liberal Arts College established in January 2013, following accreditation by the Council for Higher Education. The private, undergraduate degree-granting institution realized the importance of easy to use audio-visual system, searched and found the best solution for their needs from Tecom Electronics – the TecPodium Interactive Lectern.

The All-in-One AV Lecterns were installed in the College classrooms while in the smaller and more intimate meeting rooms, a compact and easy to use Tecom projector control system (TCD-100) allows the teacher or presenter to control the projector or other display devices easily.

Having a single source of supply and support just made sense for the AV department. With their busy classrooms, they loved the fact that all TecPodiums have a well-ventilated structure that keeps the equipment safe and secure, keeping maintenance to a minimum, thus saving the College considerable amount of time and money.

Themed Entertainment Association awards prestigious Thea Award to Oceaneering Entertainment Systems (OES) for their Revolution™ Tru-Trackless™ ride system

The Themed Entertainment Association (T.E.A., teaconnect.org) awarded its prestigious Thea Award to Oceaneering Entertainment Systems (OES) for their Revolution(tm) Tru-Trackless(tm) ride system, recognizing the development and introduction of this amazing new technological leap in theme park ride systems.
The announcement was made at the IAAPA EXPO in Orlando, the largest theme park attractions and amusement trade show in the world.

Using a blend of several cutting-edge technologies and multiple patent-pending innovations, Tru-Trackless(tm) ride vehicles are able to move through a show space in any direction, stop and turn at will, while providing a full motion-base experience to the audience. Vehicles are able to follow multiple independent ride paths, perform multiple motion profiles, and enter and leave from the load and unload stations in first-available order, not the traditional “follow-the-leader” style.

“Helping Storytellers Move Your Audience is our mantra”, according to Bill Bunting, Manager of Business Development at OES. “We subscribe fervently to Arthur Clark’s third law: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”. Too often in our industry, the technology overpowers the experience. It bleeds into the show to the distraction of the story. We think the story should dominate, and the technology should be used only to support the storytelling. It should disappear into the magic created by the experience. We think there are only two prime goals on each project: 1) support the story through the guest experience, and 2) make it reliable and safe. It really all boils down to that.”

Oceaneering Entertainment Systems (OES) contributes to the cutting-edge development of theme park technologies, including dark ride vehicles and show systems, and an array of other custom solutions. “Being a part of a large global organization with roots in deep-water, robotics, mechanical systems, space exploration, and naval technology development gives us access to talent, knowledge and expertise that others in our industry simply can’t match,” says Dave Mauck, VP of Oceaneering Entertainment Systems. “We can leverage our vast resource pool around the world, tap into expertise and innovative engineering that sometimes amazes even us”.

And a look at the Oceaneering website (www.oceaneering.com) highlights those comments. With offices in 22 countries, and over 10,000 employees worldwide, Oceaneering has a reach into all corners of the world, and a rich legacy of technology and innovation dating back to its founding in 1964.

This Thea Award win marks the 12th for OES, and follows up its dual 2012 wins for the ride systems for both Transformers: The Ride-3D at Universal Studios Hollywood, and Transformers The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle at Universal Studios Singapore.

The Revolution(tm) ride vehicle can be seen in action on the IAAPA trade show floor at OES’ booth #1054 during this week’s IAAPA EXPO 2013 at the Orange County Convention Center.

Classic New York Deli Begins a New Life with Renkus-Heinz

New York, NY – November 2013… When Russian émigré Max Asnas opened his modest Manhattan delicatessen in 1937, few would have imagined that the Stage Deli would become one of the city’s gastronomic legends. During its 75 year history, the Stage was a regular haunt for celebrities, athletes, politicians, and millions of regular folks craving a taste of New York.

When the Stage closed its doors for good in December of 2012, the new owners were determined to create an establishment worthy of the hallowed space. The new Stagecoach Tavern offers an upscale environment while retaining the building’s classic charm.

“There had been very little work done to the place over the years, and it was showing signs of its long legacy,” says John Paturno of Rego Park, NY-based Starview Audio. “The owners wanted to retain the layout, footprint, and character of the original space. They rebuilt the winter garden and restored all the original woodwork, and it looks really good.”

But as Paturno observes, the building’s character brings with it a number of acoustical challenges. “The winter garden creates a very acoustically reflective overhang in the front, and the woodwork creates a few little acoustical pockets,” he says. “There’s a dining area further back, and a bar area with a higher ceiling.”

Starview installed a system based around Renkus-Heinz TRX and CFX Series compact loudspeakers, including two zones of eight ultra-compact CFX41 coaxial four-inch systems lining the glassed in front room. The area is divided into two zones, with the zone adjacent to the bar running slightly louder than the more intimate dining area. “The CFX41 is a nice, compact design that delivers excellent coverage with a very short throw,” says Paturno. “It’s perfect for this application, because it doesn’t excite the winter garden’s glass surfaces.”

Four TRX61 two-way systems are mounted over the bar area, creating its own zone for patrons. “They have several TV screens installed, and they’re able to split the room into different zones and show multiple sporting events at the same time,” says Paturno. “The TRX61 offers an exceptionally small footprint with tight pattern control, which enables them to run the bar area at a much higher energy level than the adjacent dining space.” A Symetrix Solus 8 handles signal processing, with Powersoft amplification driving the system.

Initial reviews for the Stagecoach Tavern have been nothing short of stellar, and the sound system has delivered the perfect ambience. Paturno concludes, “whether people are there for a quiet dinner, a lunch meeting, or to watch a game at the bar, the Renkus-Heinz system provides the perfect coverage for every part of this classic establishment.”
