ATC ANNOUNCES ITS NEW SCM19 HI-FI PASSIVE MONITOR LOUDSPEAKERS FOR STEREO AND MULTI-CHANNEL APPLICATIONS

ATC-SCM19

Featuring ATC Designed and Built Tweeters, and New Stylish Curved Cabinets

Las Vegas, NV (November 19, 2013) – Lone Mountain Audio, the U.S. distributor for ATC, Acoustic Transducer Company Consumer Hi-Fi products announces ATC’s new Hi-Fi Passive SCM19 V2 Loudspeakers designed for medium size stereo and multi-channel applications.

The new Hi-Fi Passive closed-box SCM19 employs ATC’s new SH25-76, 25mm soft dome tweeter, updated bass/mid drivers and crossovers housed in a new curved laminated cabinet. The second generation SCM19 employs ATC’s landmark SH25-76 tweeter, developed to satisfy the company’s long-established rigor in drive unit engineering.

ATC’s SH25-76 Tweeter
Sharing technology with the renowned ATC soft domed mid-range drive unit, the new tweeter employs a unique dual suspension system suppressing rocking modes even at high power output levels. The configuration of a short edge-wound voice coil in a long, narrow magnetic gap ensures exceptionally low distortion throughout its operating band and removes the need for Ferro-fluids, which can dry out over time, compromising performance.

A complex, shaped, soft-domed diaphragm extends high frequency range and offers a smooth off-axis response. The tweeter’s 15,000 gauss (1.5 tesla) neodymium magnet has a black heat-treated top plate, which dissipates heat away from the voice coil to maintain high power handling and low power compression. A precision-machined 5.5mm rigid alloy waveguide provides optimum dispersion, a flat on-axis frequency response and resonance-free operation.

New Cabinets and Systems
Establishing what is to be a new style for ATC’s most competitively priced range of loudspeakers, and joining their new SCM7 V3 and SCM11 V2 recently announced, the new SCM19 benefit acoustically and aesthetically from a curved cabinet construction. The new cabinet design is braced and laminated for high rigidity and damping, the curved enclosures in real cherry or black ash veneer also impart a strong impression of handcrafted design quality. The systems improved crossovers feature metallized polypropylene capacitors, large air cored inductors and ceramic wire-round resistors offer superior power handling and clarity. The new model exhibits an impedance curve free from low values, presenting an easy load for amplifiers of 75 to 300 watts.

The SCM19 is designed for optimum performance with the grill in place – although the difference in performance without the grill is minimal. The metal grille, finished in anthracite grey, fixes to the cabinet via hidden magnets. According to tradition, each model number represents internal cabinet volume in liters.

Second Generation SCM19
The new ATC SH25-76 soft dome tweeter is joined with the company’s highly linear 150mm mid/bass driver. It features an integrated 75mm soft dome – exceptional for its horizontal dispersion of mid-band frequencies – and a huge 9kg high-energy, ‘Super Linear’ magnet systems, which includes a 75mm diameter flat wire, under hung voice coil, meticulously milled and formed by ATC. The magnet system and a carefully weighted doped fabric cone assembly contribute to the SCM19’s wide bandwidth, impressive dynamic range and convincing bass output coupled with very low distortion as a result of the unique ‘Super Linear’ motor system.

The new range of ATC closed-box passive loudspeakers is certain to raise the bar in performance driven bookshelf loudspeakers. Manufactured in-house, the new SCM19 offer the ownership of a hand-built ruggedly engineered speaker, world famous for musical accuracy and high power output, and are backed by ATC’s six-year warranty.

Digital Out Of Home Advertising Shines at Austin Fan Fest 2013

BrightSign, LLC®, the market leader in digital signage players, today announced that it has partnered with Zephyr Media Inc. to deliver a high-impact Digital Out Of Home (DOOH) advertising network for Austin Fan Fest 2013, the interactive festival that runs in parallel with the Formula One 2013 United States Grand Prix. The four-day festival – which occupies 12 square blocks in historic downtown Austin – includes dozens of interactive and educational displays, as well as dining, entertainment and live music at every turn.

“Austin is known the world over for its ability to put on a show, and F1 racing is at the pinnacle of automotive engineering,” said Luke McEvoy, Zephyr Media’s vice president of marketing. “Working closely with BrightSign, we created a powerful DOOH network that reflects that fast-paced entertainment and cutting-edge technology.”

Festival attendees are drawn by activities for all ages. The event includes six stages hosting countless activities for children, families and race fans, including some of music’s hottest acts, an X-Games action sports zone, food trucks, and F1 race car simulators and interactive exhibits.

“Large-scale outdoor events provide a massive audience that advertisers have traditionally struggled to reach – that all changed with the advent of powerful DOOH ad networks,” said Jeff Hastings, CEO of BrightSign. “Zephyr Media is a great partner, and working together we’ve created a compelling advertising platform that yields great ROI for sponsors of this year’s Austin Fan Fest.”

For event sponsors, Austin Fan Fest 2013 delivers a captive audience of elite motorsport fans in a festive mood – individuals with a high level of disposable income. Zephyr Media’s DOOH Network takes advantage of this dynamic, engaging market and enables advertisers to successfully target this audience.

While Zephyr Media’s DOOH Network was conceived initially to deliver high-impact advertising for event sponsors, the network is also being used as part of a pro bono effort to raise awareness for relief efforts currently underway in the Philippines, following the typhoon that recently devastated parts of that country. The Digital Screenmedia Association created a number of 15-second public service announcements that include instructions on how to easily donate to the relief effort. One of those 15-second spots runs twice during each 45-minute segment for three days, displayed on a High Definition 16:9 screen that measures 33 feet across. This is the largest screen at the event and is visible from nearly a quarter mile away. Zephyr Media is running the spots free of charge using BrightSign’s players, filling the urgent need to generate exposure and donations to provide typhoon survivors with water and other critical care items.

Austin Fan Fest took place in downtown Austin, TX November 14-17, 2013.

BrightSign Announces Significant Advances in Software and Firmware

BrightSign, LLC®, the market leader in digital signage media players, today announced new software and firmware for its BrightSign XD line of solid-state players, bringing significant enhancements including the ability to upscale 1080p video content to 4K, enhanced IP streaming, and some very useful HTML5 support features.

These improvements, found in the official release of BrightAuthor 3.7 software and its companion 4.7 firmware, are available to all existing and future users free of charge. These updates mark significant advances in the feature-set and functionality of the BrightSign XD players – advances that underscore the long-term value of investing in BrightSign equipment that will scale seamlessly as content tools and sources continue to evolve in the years ahead.
Using a pre-release version of the new software, BrightSign customers are already taking advantage of the powerful features.
4K display manufacturer Seiki Digital, Inc. recently demonstrated the impact of BrightSign XD’s powerful video engine paired with the new software features at the IFA trade show in Berlin.
Sung Choi, vice president of marketing for Seiki Digital brand, explained, “BrightSign’s new 4K upscaling feature enabled us to use settings in BrightAuthor to get the best possible resolution 1080p content playing on our new 4K UHD screens. We demonstrated the same 1080p content on a Full HD display side-by-side with one of our new 4K displays. This high-impact demonstration clearly showcased the superior picture quality delivered by BrightSign to our 4K screens.”
Integration partner, National Technology Associates, is using the enhanced IP streaming features to deliver video over IP to hundreds of displays in Station Casinos locations in Nevada.
And in-store signage at Batteries Plus locations very effectively use BrightSign’s hardware-accelerated HTML5 engine paired with built-in web server to pull database content from BrightSign Network, taking full advantage of the exceptional new features.
Specific BrightAuthor 3.7 software features are detailed below:

4K Upscaling
• BrightSign XD’s exceptionally powerful video engine paired with the new software features enable customers to use settings in BrightAuthor to get the best possible resolution 1080p content playing at 4K resolution on the stunning new 4K / UHD screens. This means display manufacturers can demonstrate the same 1080p content on a Full HD display and a 4K display side-by-side to clearly showcase the superior picture quality of the new 4K screens.
Enhanced IP Streaming
• BrightSign XD now supports Full HD video streaming including HLS, SHOUTcast, video streaming in HTML, as well as playback from head-end real-time encoders such as Haivision, Exterity, Visionary Solutions, and other devices that provide UDP/RTP/RTSP streaming. Full HD video streams and audio streams are buffered appropriately and play smoothly.
• In addition, the XD players can now act as IP streaming servers for customers who want to stream locally stored content files.
Unequaled HTML5 Support
• Hardware-accelerated HTML5 engine
BrightSign is well known for the superior performance of its hardware-accelerated image decoding and video decoding. This new software update now unleashes the power of hardware-accelerated HTML5 rendering. This means that users can accomplish much more using HTML, without encountering the stuttering effect that is often seen on Android devices and PC’s that rely on software-based HTML rendering.
• Modular HTML5 Assets
BrightSign XD allows for HTML assets to exist on the BrightSign canvas as independent packages, as opposed to one flat HTML page. This means that HTML5 can be seamlessly integrated with other content, so that the web’s collection of transparent HTML widgets, like clocks, weather feeds, tickers, etc., can be used easily without the need integrate them into a complete HTML page.
• JavaScript Extensions Enable Interactive Options
BrightSign is introducing JavaScript extensions that allow the full power of the BrightSign engine to be used via HTML and JavaScript. These JavaScript extensions allow access to serial IO, UDP events, GPIO, CEC, TV tuning, and other features. Now, any web developer can access BrightSign’s advanced digital signage engine.
• Built-in Web Server Pulls Database Content
The software update allows users to identify user variables in other databases and pull them into HTML. Using features and settings within BrightSign’s web server and on-device database of BrightAuthor user variables, users can display database data in HTML5 within a presentation. For example, the model number of a TV display entered as a user variable can pull all the information about that display into the signage presentation.

• HTML5 Video Rotation
BrightSign’s HTML5 support offers the exclusive ability to rotate any video including locally stored video, HDMI input video and even RF Input video (QAM/ATSC tuner). Our JavaScript can call any of these video assets, rotate them at any angle and play it back flawlessly. The result is a greatly simplified implementation process that yields a remarkable display that combines BrightSign’s powerful video engine and HTML5 capabilities in a way that no other can duplicate.
• Sign Control via Web Browser or Android Devices
Earlier this year, BrightSign announced the free BrightSign iOS App for updating content on locally networked signage. With this new software release, customers who want to control their signage from an Android mobile device or any web browser can do so.
The new BrightAuthor 3.7 software and 4.7 firmware package is free to all BrightSign customers and can be downloaded from the software downloads page on http://support.brightsign.biz/home. More information including tech notes and user guides can be found at http://support.brightsign.biz/entries/314526-brightsign-user-guides-troubleshooting.

PESA Xstream Multi-Path IP Streaming Appliance Among PESA Product Highlights at GV Expo

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, will showcase the PESA Xstream multi-path IP streaming appliance at Government Video Expo 2013 (Booth 719), which runs Dec. 4-5 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The company will also showcase its new easyPORT™ modules for HDMI transport, Vidblox 2K DVI dual link extenders, and 4K routing switcher.

In addition, retired Col. John T. Wright, PESA senior vice president, sales and business development, will present “Unified Capabilities Requirements – Video Distribution Systems in DoD Environments” as part of the Pro Media Conference at GV Expo on Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. “The UCR is in place so Department of Defense agencies can equip with confidence, knowing that products have been tested and approved by the Joint Interoperability Test Command,” he explained. “My session will provide a basic understanding of the process, as well as some helpful hints for properly preparing a technical scope of work.”

PESA Xstream simultaneously encodes up to five independent video sources and eight audio sources concurrently from live or recorded video for multi-path H.264 IP distribution over six independent video streams – with no sync or latency issues. Housed in a compact, 1 RU form factor, it provides a cost effective, comprehensive package for digital media capture, processing, distribution, and storage. Upgrades for Q1 2014 include on-board storage as well as a USB 2.0 communications interface.

“With its synchronized, high-quality video and audio and a low cost per stream, PESA Xstream has caught the attention of government agencies and a number of other vertical markets,” Wright said. “PESA Xstream is already part of VIQ Infinit, a digital media capture and management platform from VIQ Solutions for court systems, and we are working with developers who are tailoring the user experience for other specific applications.”

PESA Xstream captures H.264 IP camera streams, NTSC/PAL or SDI video up to 1080p resolution, stored video content, and even computer-based content such as PowerPoint slides or medical patient vital signs, then prepares high-bandwidth MPEG-4/H.264 broadcast streams for enterprise distribution and archive. When multiple sources are captured simultaneously, the streams remain associated and synchronized during the event.

With five individually addressable video outputs as well as an integrated quad-view output, PESA Xstream allows operators to stream live content over IP while simultaneously transmitting live digital content to a quad-view display and/or full screen display. PESA Xstream can also synchronize discrete audio inputs to discrete video inputs, and offers adjustable audio delay. An intuitive Web browser management and control interface provides complete remote capabilities, which can eliminate the need for on-site personnel to stream content to a production facility.

Four new easyPORT™ compact switching throw-down boxes make it easy to integrate HDMI sources into video transport. The EASY-2HX4B distributes or switches two HDMI inputs to four independent SDI video sources, simplifying cable and power management at the desktop when you need to convert two HDMI inputs to share across multiple SD/HD or 3G-SDI video transports. The EASY-4BX2H companion module offers flexibility at the studio workstation, where up to four SDI video input feeds can be converted and switched to two different HDMI video displays. Offered with coaxial 75 Ohm connections, the EASY-2HX4B and EASY-4BX2H can be extended up to 80m, while the EASY-2HX4F and EASY-4FX2H fiber versions with standard LC-type SFP pluggable modules support distances up to 600m over multi-mode or 10km over single-mode fiber.

PESA’s new series of Vidblox 2K DVI dual link extenders are ideal for the distribution of ultra high-resolution graphics used in production studios, command and control rooms, and geospatial imaging centers. The modules transport 2K video (up to 2560×1600@60Hz) over coax and/or fiber to or from serial digital equipment, with analog stereo embedded in the video transport. On the local TX module, a looping DVI-D output allows quick monitoring status to check video content and image quality. Vidblox 2K modules can be combined with PESA’s full line of 3G-SDI routing switchers for 2K distribution and switching systems up to 288×288, and each Vidblox 2K can be networked for remote control using PESA’s Cattrax network control software.

Designed to support the emerging 4K/UHDTV marketplace, the new Cheetah 4K 16×16 routing switcher features hot swappable matrix and I/O cards, as well as internal power and control, which virtually eliminates the need for additional power and external cabling. Plus, redundant power and control modules can be added within the 4 RU frame. The router is controlled through traditional RS-232/422 or Ethernet connections, and its built-in SNMP MIB simplifies integration to third-party network system management software. The router can be configured and controlled via PESA’s intuitive Cattrax network GUI or optional Cattrax Web network server software using PESA’s powerful PERC2000 or PERC3000 system controller hardware.

Each Cheetah I/O card includes four SC-style fiber CWDM connections carrying up to 12 Gbps (4xSDI) for each input or output port. To complete the end-to-end 4K system, an outboard easyPORT module converts the signals from each CWDM port on the router back to conventional HD/3G-SDI video lines. With the built-in crosspoint switch circuit on each easyPORT module, users can also send four independent SD/HD/3G-SDI signals over a single wire interface, which saves valuable cabling space, and can extend coax I/O more than 80m using the built-in equalizing and reclocking circuits in each easyPORT module.

Sound Devices Introduces the Next Must-Have Audio Product, the 633 Mixer

Six-Input Mixer with 10-Track Recorder Offers Unprecedented Capability in a Compact, Portable Device

REEDSBURG, WI, NOVEMBER 19, 2013 — Sound Devices, specialists in portable audio and video products for field production, introduces the 633, a six-input mixer with integrated 10-track recorder. It includes Sound Devices’ proprietary PowerSafe technology and a unique four-way power supply for maximum operational runtime. As the next must-have production tool, the 633 has a full complement of I/O designed into a compact, portable device, ideal for over-the-shoulder applications.

The powerful 633 mixer/recorder features six inputs, with three high-bandwidth mic/line XLR inputs complete with phantom power, high-pass filter, input limiter and variable pan. Three additional line-level inputs appear on TA3 (mini-XLR) connectors. All inputs are assignable to any output bus. AES digital I/O, including support for AES42 digital microphones, is available.

The 633 offers 10-track 24-bit, 48 kHz uncompressed polyphonic or monophonic broadcast WAV file recording (96 kHz for eight tracks, 192 kHz for six tracks) or timecode stamped MP3 recording to CompactFlash and/or SD cards. All six inputs plus Left/Right and Aux 1/2, can be recorded to individual tracks. Similar to Sound Devices’ 12-input 664 Production Mixer, the 633 offers dual card slots that record to either one or both cards simultaneously, with the added ability to assign different tracks to each memory card.

Unique to the industry, the 633 is equipped with a four-way power supply and Sound Devices’ proprietary PowerSafe technology. This four-way powering allows for multiple, simultaneous power sources including external DC on a Hirose 4-pin locking (12-18 V), two removable and independent L-type Lithium-ion batteries and internal AA battery powering (six-AA). The unit detects when power sources are removed and seamlessly transitions to an available power source. With its PowerSafe circuitry, when all power is removed the unit remains on for 10 seconds to close all file operations and properly shut down. With PowerSafe, a complete power loss has no effect on the recording. PowerSafe also provides two-second ‘power-on-to-recording’ so the mixer is ready for operation at a moment’s notice.

The 633’s high-accuracy, Ambient-based timecode generator/reader assists in multi-camera and double-system sound applications. All common production timecode rates and modes are available. Extensive file metadata is supported along with the timecode. The 633 also features a keyboard port for quick and easy metadata entry.

Designed for the demands of field production, the 633 has easily accessible, tactile front panel controls. Its LCD-based setup menu offers easy navigation and control of its extensive features. Menu options for metering, display and headphone favorites are among the selections that can be saved to scenes, which save the complete state of the mixer to memory cards in order to quickly reproduce a setup.

The 633 is also available as a complete package, the 633-KIT, which includes the unit plus all of the accessories needed for use in the field. This production-ready kit includes the 633 mixer, the CS-633 Production Case, two L-type Lithium-ion batteries, one SD and one CF card, plus TA3-to-XLR cables.

The 633, like all Sound Devices products, is designed to withstand the physical and environmental extremes of the field. Its top and bottom chassis panels are made from molded, metalized carbon fiber for superior durability and weight reduction. The chassis panels are also gasketed for water resistance.

BYU Idaho Finds Discreet Solution With Martin Audio OmniLine

Brigham Young University–Idaho wanted a new sound reinforcement system for its Barrus Auditorium Concert Hall and Taylor Chapel that would provide higher quality audio without being visually intrusive.

Jon Perdue, A/V Production & Broadcast Manager for the University details the challenge: “Barrus auditorium also functioned as a chapel and the original sound system lacked clarity and wasn’t up to today’s standards in terms of quality for vocals and instrument reproduction.

“The university had authorized us to upgrade but the music department was very concerned about hanging a conventional system in the room or having ground-stacked speakers alongside the stage for feat it would look intrusive.

“I was speaking with my friend Robert Weddings at RMB Audio,” continues Perdue, “and he had been telling me about this amazing sounding and ultra-compact OmniLine array from Martin Audio. We arranged for a system to be sent to us and proceeded to demo the OmniLine in both venues. After extensive testing, we were convinced this was the system best suited for these acoustically challenged environments.”

Coupled with its impressive sound, OmniLine’s unobtrusive appearance proved to be decisive: “The array’s small size and the aesthetics of the system were crucial factors for the administration,” Jon points out. OmniLine passed with flying colors in both rooms and the Administration thought the clusters looked very attractive in the venue. To be honest, it was a very easy sell. The results were jaw dropping!”

In order to cover the Barrus Auditorium, a spacious 682-seater which hosts over 110 events a year, Perdue and his crew hung 16 OmniLine modules per side, each with an AQ210 sub flown alongside to support the low frequency requirements for the program material without losing any clarity.

When the stage is extended for certain events, the four bottom modules can be turned off to compensate for the first five rows. This setup has proved to be far more than adequate for the choral and orchestral groups, pianists, light jazz ensembles and acoustic music events that are held there.

Commenting on the Barrus installation, Perdue adds, “Because it’s such an acoustically ‘live’ space, they wanted a natural-sounding system. It had to be accurate and lend itself architecturally to the room’s design. That was a huge challenge, but the fact that the OmniLine boxes sound so musically and acoustically transparent was a major plus.”

The Taylor Chapel is a multi-purpose venue that holds approximately 450 people with an overflow capability in three smaller rooms that can accommodate an additional 850. Two discrete eight-module OmniLine arrays hung on either side of the rostrum cover the chapel along with two AQ210 subs under the stage cover the chapel.

While Barrus auditorium is ostensibly designed for sound, the Taylor Chapel is another story. “The room is very challenging,” Perdue explains. “The roof line is stepped, very high over the stage, then drops down three feet every four feet through the rest of the room. The sides are splayed outwards and made up of floor to ceiling windows, also a problem, but the OmniLine works really well for speech intelligibility, which is the main concern as well as reproduction of acoustic music.”

The A/V Productions audio team engineers Scott Carter, Josh Foster and David Mann installed the Martin Audio OmniLine arrays in Burrus Auditorium and Taylor Chapel. Some of the other sound system components also included Lab Gruppen amplification, Yamaha LS9 digital consoles and XTA processing.

Summing up the impact of the audio upgrade, Jon concludes “Since the installation of these two systems, the university has had nothing but positive feedback from the audience to performers and administration. Our A/V team’s experience with the Martin Audio team and products has been a positive one in terms of quality, professionalism and customer service.”

Tightrope Media Systems ZEPLAY Ignites Fan Experience at University of Minnesota Sporting Events

Slo-mo instant replay system offers school a robust feature set, reliable performance and affordable price point for upgraded control room

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, November 19, 2013 – TCF Bank Stadium is home to University of Minnesota Gophers football, one of 23 varsity sports teams on campus competing in the storied Big Ten Conference. The modern, recently-opened stadium influenced HD upgrades to a control room shared with three arenas. The upgrades include two Tightrope Media Systems ZEPLAY solutions to drive slo-mo instant replay and sports video to more than 1200 screens.

The production team, headed by Tadd Wilson, scoreboard and video operations manager for University of Minnesota Athletics, cited reliability, an extensive feature set and a competitive price point as key benefits. The two ZEPLAY systems provide 16 channels of live replay (eight in, eight out) for the nearly 100 annual sporting events covered from this control room.

Wilson notes that this high-channel capacity was a big reason for choosing ZEPLAY over competitive systems, adding that it enhances his ability to create sequences, load and export clips. These operational benefits especially stood out during the evaluation process.

“I was most impressed with the number of channels that ZEPLAY gives us without having to pay an exorbitant price,” he says. “We have anywhere from five to eight cameras that we want to record on any given game day. We also interface with the TV trucks on-location, adding another four to seven cameras. The ability to record as many channels as possible was a top priority.”

Wilson and his team use ZEPLAY predominantly for in-house play to engage home and visiting team fans on game-changing events, from touchdowns in TCF Bank Stadium to hockey goals in Mariucci Arena. ZEPLAY instantly triggers high-quality replays on-demand across large LED score boards, displays and monitors. Each venue includes more than 300 TVs and displays located in concourses, suites, premium areas, concession stands and other locations.

“Replays are one of the main reasons people look at our displays,” says Wilson. “Fans immediately turn their attention to the displays to see the replay when a touchdown happens or a goal is scored. Or, they can see why everyone’s cheering if they were at the concession stands getting a hot dog.”

In addition to high-channel capacity and high-quality video, ZEPLAY provides Wilson and his team with a built-in multiviewer that allows operators to follow action and monitor many angles on one display. Also, since the control room is manned during games by a combination of full-time staff, freelancers, and students (part-time employees from various majors), the simple learning curve and ongoing overall ease of use was significant.

“We looked at other replay systems, but the price points versus the feature sets just didn’t make sense,” said Wilson. “ZEPLAY gives us all the features and capabilities we need and is a fairly straightforward, easy device to for our operators to learn.”

ZEPLAY’s extensive tagging and key play marking options were also essential for Wilson. These features provide quick filtering and file recall from built-in storage to assist with speedy highlight package creation. Operators archive game-day footage for highlights, player-of-the-game features and posting videos online. Files are digitally exported to long-time archives without complex recording processes, and can be recalled and played out as high-quality 4:2:2 HD files.

Wilson adds that ZEPLAY’s reliability can’t be underestimated. “I was worried about replay systems in general crashing or locking up during games, especially the disk-based systems,” he said. “To this day, we haven’t had any issues with ZEPLAY. It’s never locked up or crashed. That has really impressed me.”

DPA Microphones Grace the Head of a Prime Minister

DPA microphones played a vital role at Dublin’s fourth Web Summit at the RDS by ensuring that key speakers could be clearly heard, despite high levels of background noise.

10,000 delegates from over 90 countries attended the two-day tech convention, which was officially opened when Ireland’s Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny rang the NASDAQ bell. New York’s NASDAQ stock exchange is synonymous with techie start-ups and this was the first time ever that the bell marking the start of trading was rung from Ireland.

Given the importance of this event – and the fact that the opening ceremony was broadcast live on television and streamed live online – it was imperative that the technical facilities were of the highest quality.

Tony Lanigan, Technical Director and Production Manager at Dublin-based rental/staging company Avtek, was responsible for specifying the audiovisual equipment for the entire event. He chose the cardioid DPA d:fine™ 4088 Headset Microphones for the speakers and presenters because they were the best alternative to lapel mics for sound reinforcement in the Summit’s high ambient noise environment.

“We often use DPA headset microphones, especially in venues such as old buildings and echo-y, cavernous churches where there are lots of reflections,” Lanigan explains. “For this event, at which there were over 200 exhibitors, they were absolutely the right choice because they really hit the mark.”

In total, Avtek used 50 DPA microphones – a mixture of d:fine 4088 Cardioid Headset Microphones and DPA d:screet™ 4066 Omnidirectional Miniature Microphones. DPA’s Irish distributor Big Bear Sound provided some new d:fine units to add to Avtek’s existing rental stock.

“Wherever possible, we tried to use DPA d:fine 4088 Headset Microphones with Sennheiser belt packs because their cardioid construction was able to give us as much SPL as possible to overcome the ambient noise,” Lanigan says. “Some of the ‘pitching’ stages were in the middle of the exhibition areas with up to 10,000 people roaming through the space chatting and selling their apps etc. In that environment, a speaker with a lapel mic would have struggled to be heard.”

Lanigan adds that he was especially pleased with the d:fine 4088 Headset Microphones which performed as well as a cardioid handheld mic.

“They certainly helped reduce or eliminate feedback, which was critical at the opening ceremony because the event was streamed on New Livestream.com from four of the conference rooms and transmitted live by CNBC, Bloomberg TV, Fox Business News and many other broadcasters, reaching millions of viewers worldwide,” he says. “The DPA d:fine Headset mics also went down well with the speakers who found them very comfortable to wear. It was certainly the first time anyone has seen our Taoiseach wear one, so he must have found it ok!”

Seen as an innovator and market leader in Ireland, Avtek specialize in high-end conferences, launches and events, the majority of which are in the corporate sector. It also provides in-house audiovisual solutions and services to venues and hotels around the world.

“DPA Headset Microphones often find their way onto our equipment riders, especially for conferences and award shows, because with these mics we can ensure that our MC is never just a moving mouth in a room full of people in high spirits,” Lanigan adds.

Four IC Realtime ELITE Series Surveillance Cameras Receive UL Listing.

The certification is a significant selling-point when dealing with school districts, financial institutions, hospitals, government and code-restrictive counties.

Pompano Beach, FL – November 19, 2013 – IC Realtime today announced that four of its popular ELITE Series surveillance cameras have achieved UL® listing by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. under the UL-60950 standard for Information Technology Equipment. The models are the EL-1000, EL-2000 and EL-3000 vandal-resistant dome cameras, and the EL-750 infrared bullet camera. These are the company’s first cameras to receive UL Listing.

According to IC Realtime CEO Matt Sailor, the UL Listing is a significant selling-point when dealing with school districts, financial institutions, hospitals, government and certain code-restrictive counties.

“IC Realtime is one of few surveillance manufacturers to offer UL Listed cameras,” says Sailor. ”Eventually all of our cameras will be UL Listed as we want to be ahead of the curve for our dealers.”

ICR's ELITE series bullet camera is one of several that are now UL Listed

Many of IC Realtime’s cameras – including the four UL Listed models — incorporate a proprietary technology called i-Sniper that utilizes special sensors in the cameras to capture images in detail both night and day, even under challenging mixed-lighting conditions, making the cameras a top choice among IC Realtime dealers.
