1. IP Video Traffic Shaping Technology for Alleviating Packet Loss, Video Freezes, Jitter, and Noise — DOZERbox IP IP
DVEO’s DOZERbox IP IP gateways enable IPTV operators, Over The Top (OTT) video providers, and broadcasters to improve video distribution over average quality internet backbones. Customers in the USA use Dozer technology to import video content from Greece, Iraq, Colombia, and Bangladesh — with no packet loss or video freezes, and lower latency.

Typically sold in pairs, the DOZERbox IP IP is based on the Intel® NUC. The unit is just over 4.5 inches wide. It is also available in a 1RU version — the DOZERbox R™. The traffic shaping technology can also be purchased as a software application to add on to DVEO’s encoders, transcoders, and IP gateways — the Media Dozer: LIC™.

2. Eight Channel HD-SDI Streamer, Encoder, and Live Media Distribution Server — MAGNUS Anytime HD-SDI
The MAGNUS Anytime HD-SDI is a powerful multichannel (10 1080p, 20 720p, or 40 SD Channels) live H.264 encoder and live media distribution server/VOD (video on demand) server. It ingests and transcodes up to eight live HD-SDI inputs and adds wrappers such as HLS, RTMP, or RTSP. The system outputs the live streams and simultaneously stores the streams as VOD files. It delivers live or stored streams to over 500 simultaneous users.

Streaming media production professionals will use this system to feed HD-SDI from production trucks to production crew or to audiences via IP. It is an ideal distribution server for studios, stadiums, concert halls, cruise ships, etc. who rely on both live and resident content. It is also suitable for sending videos to iPads, iPhones, and other portable devices, and for building a CDN (content distribution network) or adding live content to a CDN.

In addition to demonstrating the MAGNUS Anytime HD-SDI at Streaming Media West 2013, DVEO will also be showing the video tutorial.

3. Portable Dual Input SDI/HD-SDI Live Streamer/Encoder with Touch Panel Control — MAMBA DIG/IP
Only 12.25 inches long and 8.25 inches wide, the MAMBA DIG/IP is a portable SDI/HD-SDI live encoder/streamer with one or two HD-SDI inputs. The output is one HD and three SD H.264 streams with different profiles. In addition to an LCD touch screen for monitoring and simple controls, the compact encoder also features remote management from anywhere via the public internet. The MAMBA DIG/IP is ideal for electronic news gathering, corporate training, and streaming live video from events, concerts, and sporting events.

An optional battery belt pack is available for video shoots in the field. Optional versions are available for a single HDMI input or 4 analog (composite) inputs, instead of SDI/HD-SDI inputs.

4. Multichannel Video Warehouse with Automatic Archiving — VidBak
The VidBak encodes uploaded video and audio files into online streaming formats. It archives 100,000+ streams and serves them on demand within schools, universities, corporations, institutions, cruise ships, etc. The remotely manageable system can also encrypt videos for content protection. The easy to use GUI allows self directed searches and quick meta data based searches. Users can self-categorize videos in multiple categories. The VidBak runs on a Windows® server with external storage arrays.

5. 80 Channel Adaptive Optimized Transcoder for Mobile and OTT — MultiStreamer Brutus IV IP/IP: TELCO
The broadcast quality MultiStreamer Brutus IV IP/IP: TELCO is a real time transcoder, streamer and scaler. It transcodes up to 80 SD streams, or 40 720p HD streams, or 20 1080i/p HD streams from MPEG-2 to H.264 or vice-versa. Built on a dependable 4 x 8 Core Intel® Sandy Bridge CPU, the system is suitable for IPTV, OTT, mobile TV, broadcast, and Telco TV, or as a transcoder/reformatter for RTSP IP Cameras. The Brutus supports Flash, HLS, RTMP, HTTP, Smooth, and Live streaming and works well with Wowza®, Adobe® Flash® and RealNetworks® Servers. Audio support includes AAC, Ogg Vorbis, MPEG-1 Layer II, optional MP3, and/or optional “SurCode for Dolby Digital” AC-3.

6. Live Ingest Stand Alone VOD Server and Live Media Distributor — Reality Anytime IP IP: TELCO
Recommended for small to mid-sized IPTV distribution, multiscreen content delivery, and stadiums, universities, and other public venues, the Reality Anytime IP IP Telco serves over 500 live and/or recorded streams on an on-demand basis to over 1,000 simultaneous users. It can support even more users with optional Intel® solid-state drives. It ingests “pre groomed” (pre formatted) live streams, then adds wrappers and protocols that are needed by today’s mobile devices, set top boxes, and OTT equipped televisions. Since this server automatically discovers files on other servers, some customers use it to create or augment their CDNs.

7. Transport Stream Multiviewer and Monitoring System — IP Check
The IP Check is a real time multi-window MPEG-2 or H.264 IP transport stream monitoring system for viewing, monitoring, and logging errors in multi program IP streams. It monitors video freezes, black screens, video loss, audio loss, loss of subtitles, and audio levels. The IP Check provides a real time comprehensive MPEG TS layer analysis of multiple services coming from multiple transport streams — up to 20 HD and 50 SD video programs in a single unit. The display panel sizes and locations are easy to configure. Error alerts can be communicated via visual alerts, SNMP, e-mail, and audio alarms.

8. Scheduled Playout Server with IP Out — Infinity Streamer (mini) .5T/50ch
Ideal for video hosting, the Infinity Streamer is an IP video playout server for continuous scheduled or looped streaming. It plays up to 50 separate video clips simultaneously from the on board .5 TB hard drive, with different bit rates and wrappers for each stream. Numerous file types are supported, including H.264 ts, flv, H.264 ps, .mov, VC-1 (.wmv), mkv, and others. ISPs and CDNs can create their own 50 “streaming” web channels with 50 different programs or content playing on a preset schedule.

New Post House Core Post Builds FORscene Into Its Standard Technical Offering

LONDON — Nov. 15, 2013 — Forbidden Technologies plc (AIM: FBT), the AIM-quoted owner and developer of the market-leading cloud video platform FORscene, today announced that new post-production house Core Post has incorporated FORscene into its regular workflow to make the post-production process more flexible and efficient, especially for large-scale projects. Founded by industry veterans and former Sumners department heads Tony Greenwood, Matt Brown, and Kate Mather, Core Post opened in October across the road from MediaCityUK and has already attracted clients such as the BBC.

“FORscene gives us a cloud-based platform for working with footage both within the facility and off site, adding flexibility that is vital, especially for large-scale productions with large volumes of media,” said Lucy Swann, facility manager at Core Post. “We wanted a system that would eliminate the need to create DVDs of rushes and would offer clients an easy way to view and work with their rushes — and the associated metadata — all in one place, and FORscene does just that. The second a media file hits our storage, it is already transcoding to the cloud, allowing production personnel to view material sooner than ever before.”

The ability to view and manipulate rushes both inside and outside the facility was a key requirement for Core Post. Producers can log in to FORscene from anywhere to view rushes before the edit starts, which makes for much more efficient edit prep. Uploading the material to FORscene during the ingest process allows producers to view, log, and even edit sequences before arriving in the edit suite. Rough cuts that were created off site can easily be imported into Core Post’s Avid(R) editing environment.

Another key reason Core Post chose FORscene was because of its logging feature. As FORscene is accessible from anywhere, loggers can work on the footage as it is ingested, no matter where they are, thus ensuring clients and staff have immediate access to metadata such as timecode, clip naming, and disk labelling. Core Post has already begun using FORscene for a large BBC production called “Junior Paramedics — Your Life in Their Hands,” which follows a group of paramedic science students at different stages of their course, and the logging feature is particularly helpful on that project.

Core Post also appreciated FORscene’s ability to integrate into Avid Unity(TM), ISIS(R), and EditShare(R) storage environments, making it a versatile option should Core Post make changes to its storage systems within the facility. Another benefit is that, once a project is set up, administration tasks are minimal. Finally, the easy-to-follow user guides on the FORscene YouTube(TM) channel give clients who are new to the platform step-by-step instructions on how to use it.

Linear Hosts Z-Wave Alliance Unplug Fest & Developers Forum

Developers and OEM manufacturers gathered at Linear’s Carlsbad headquarters for a first look at the new Z-Wave Next Gen 500 series chip platform, and to attend training sessions geared at helping them get products to market faster and more efficiently.

Carlsbad, CA – November 15, 2013 – Linear LLC, a leader in residential and commercial access control, security and health and wellness solutions, recently hosted the Z-Wave Alliance Unplug Fest & Developer’s Forum session at their Carlsbad, CA headquarters on November 12-14, 2013. The Developer’s Forum & Unplug Fest is a three-day technical event with trainings, networking and a first look at the new Z-Wave Next Gen 500 series. Linear is a Principal Member of the Z-Wave Alliance, a consortium of global companies that oversees the world’s largest interoperable ecosystem for wireless home control products and services.

Oceaneering Showcases REVOLUTION™ Tru-Trackless™ Ride System at IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013 Featuring Alcorn McBride Products

Oceaneering Entertainment Systems (OES) is using Alcorn McBride’s RideTraXX synchronized multi-channel audio player with crossfade, VCore controller and ShowTouch iOS control interface to demo its groundbreaking REVOLUTION Tru-Trackless ride system at IAAPA’s Attractions Expo 2013. IAAPA, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, will be at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, November 18-22.

OES is known for its cutting-edge development of theme park technologies, including dark ride vehicles, show-action systems and an array of custom solutions. The company’s latest revolutionary innovation is a ride system like none other. REVOLUTION is a “Tru-Trackless” system in which ride vehicles are able to glide around a show space in any direction, stop and turn at will, and provide a full motion base experience for the audience. Vehicles can follow multiple ride paths, have multiple motion profiles, and dispatch from load and unload stations in first available order.

“We chose Alcorn McBride’s RideTraXX as the 5.1 audio playback unit for the REVOLUTION system,” says Matthew Kent, head of creative services at OES. “At IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013 we’re also using VCore to trigger some show control specifics. We want to be able to walk up to the vehicle at the show and turn it on or off and access specific elements of the demonstration profile. REVOLUTION is designed to be put into an attraction on a continuous cycle of show control. VCore allows us to create a single motion profile for trade show demonstrations purposes with a Touch iOS interface that Alcorn is providing as well.”

During the demo Kent says OES will deploy RideTraXX for “off-board audio so that it can be heard throughout the booth rather than from within the ride, since we won’t have people in the vehicle, however it will be operational and controllable via the touchscreen.”

OES turned to Alcorn McBride for the REVOLUTION demo as a tried-and-true solutions provider. “Alcorn was already the provider of the audio system we chose for this product for all of our customers,” says Kent. “RideTraXX is versatile and offers all the inputs and outputs that we require, and it’s very easy to maintain and use. The Compact Flash card interface makes it simple to change show audio media on the fly.”

The REVOLUTION vehicle system may be used not only for passenger ride systems but also for other entertainment applications, such as moveable scenic, animation or show-action platforms.

SYMETRIX SYMNET RADIUS 12×8 DSP REVAMPS NORWEGIAN SKI JUMP

TRONDHEIM, NORWAY – NOVEMBER 2013: The Granåsen Ski-Jumping Stadium in Trondheim ranks among the highest and best-attended ski-jumping stadiums in Norway. Granåsen hosts events throughout the winter months, including the World Cup and the Continental Cup, on its two side-by-side hills, one a K-90 and the other a K-124. Seating on both sides of the jumps give spectators an intimate view. Recently, A/V integration firm ATEA gutted Granåsen’s aging and bloated analog sound reinforcement system and replaced it with a slim, easy-to-use digital system centered on the SymNet Radius 12×8 audio signal processor and two Symetrix ARC-K1e wall panel remotes.

“The old system used two giant racks of analog processers,” said Andre [Dominic] Schorr, senior A/V consultant with ATEA. “They were even using analog delay! Nothing was labeled, and although it worked, no one could understand the line structure to make changes. Moreover, graphic equalizers and the like were just sitting there, and staff could make changes.” Of course, those changes would usually be for the worse, however well intentioned they might be. Granåsen officials requested the new system to stabilize and streamline performance for the weekly events that required it. ATEA installed the system in the dead of winter, and the deep snow and frozen earth made things challenging. Some cable runs were left in a temporary state until the summertime thaw.

Depending on the event, the system may be operated from either of two redundant positions, one nearer to the jumps and one within the spectator seating. Each position possesses a Soundcraft EMP6 mixer. Three Sennheiser wireless microphone systems provide the most-commonly used inputs to the system. Stereo outputs from both mixers, as well as a direct line from the primary microphone and an auxiliary input, feed the Symetrix SymNet Radius 12×8, leaving six of its twelve inputs available for future expansion. Seven of the Radius 12×8’s outputs feed four RCF HPS2500 amplifiers, then go to 100V transformers before feeding thirty-four 100V RCF weatherproof P2110 outdoor loudspeakers distributed across seven zones. The eighth output supplies signal to a hearing loop.

“Programming the SymNet Radius 12×8 using the SymNet Composer software was intuitive and quick,” said Schorr, whose background includes audio engineering. “It is very logical. Whenever I have a question, Symetrix’ online and live support are excellent. We were able to give the ski jump everything requested, including effective ducking of program material whenever the main microphone is used.” Although the SymNet Radius 12×8’s Dante networking capability is currently unused, it will make future expansion easy and cost-effective.

User control is achieved via the mixing consoles and via a pair of redundant Symetrix ARC-K1e wall panel remotes, one at each mix position. Users select from a list of presets and control various aspects of system performance using the ARC-K1e. For example, users can independently control the main microphone volume and the mixer output volume. A ‘mute all’ also answers a request from the Granåsen staff. “The Symetrix ARC panels are so user-friendly and so flexible, I can configure the interface to do whatever will make things easy and intuitive for the user,” said Schorr. “Even staff members with no technical ability can operate the system.”

NEW ASHLY NXP3.04 PROGRAMMABLE OUTPUT POWER AMPLIFIER WITH PROCESSING SERVES NEW ATHLETIC FIELD AT FDR HIGH SCHOOL

HYDE PARK, NEW YORK – NOVEMBER 2013: Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School was built as part of a Depression-era pubic works program in 1941 and owns the rare distinction of being named for a sitting President. Today, the school serves 1,550 students in Hyde Park, New York, FDR’s hometown. Although the original high school building is in the National Register of Historic Places, growth prompted the construction of a larger building long ago, and the school continues to maintain up-to-date facilities. When its athletic field aged beyond useful repair, the school board ordered it razed. Built on the same land, FDR’s new athletic stadium boasts a cutting-edge sound reinforcement system, with power and digital signal processing both provided by the high-efficiency, cost-effective Ashly nXp3.04 high-output power amplifier with on-board Protea™ processor.

Dominick Campana, owner at Pro Sound Associates (Guilderland, New York), led the system’s design and installation, and Live Sound, Inc. (Troy, New York) served as the sound system vendor. “There were several challenges associated with FDR’s new athletic stadium,” explained Campana. “First, we had to provide ample power to four zones over 300-feet of speaker wire – from the head end to the scoreboard. Second, we had to provide flexible and accurate DSP for fine- tuning, system protection, and multiple I/O routing. Third, we only had a short window between system installation and the first football game when we could commission the system. Finally – and this made all the other challenges that much harder – we only had a limited rack space beneath a stairway in the press box and single 20-amp circuit for the entire system. Based on my positive experience with Ashly amplifiers and processors, I suspected that their new nXp3.04 four-channel 3000-watt amplifier with internal DSP would help us overcome all of those challenges.”

Inputs to the system include four Shure ULX-series wireless microphones, three hardwired microphone jacks, and a Tascam CD-200i combination, aux in, iPod, and CD player. They feed a Shure SCM810 9×1 automixer, which in turn feeds the Ashly nXp3.04. The Ashly nXp3.04 is a lightweight, energy-efficient Class D switching amplifier with four 3000-watt channels and an integrated 4×4 Protea DSP. Three of its amplifier channels power three Community R2 loudspeakers at the scoreboard. The final amplifier channel powers a pair of Community DS5 surface-mount loudspeakers in the press box. Additional aux outputs from the nXp3.04’s DSP section feed a Listen Technologies assistive listening system.

“As with all Ashly networkable devices, connecting to and accessing the nXp3.04’s DSP was instantaneous,” said Campana. “Because I have considerable experience with the Ashly ne-Series of DSPs, the layout and workflow of the nXp DSP was pleasingly familiar. The Community R2′s like to see a lot of power, and I knew the nXp3.04 would be able to deliver with a maximum output of 3,000 watts at 2 ohms per channel. Not only was there power to spare, 2000 watts per channel @ 4 ohms, but the nXp3.04 performed at full throttle with only a minimal amperage draw. With all of its brains and brawn, I’ll definitely utilize the Ashly nXp-Series for future jobs – especially at its more-than-fair price point.”

API 1608 TRAVERSES THE EARTH

JESSUP, MARYLAND: With hundreds of satisfied customers, API’s 1608 console continues to make a mark on the music industry with the company’s signature API sound. Here is a small sampling of some 1608s that have recently left the factory.

STUDIO K – Paris, France Situated on the fourth floor of a 17th century building in Paris, David Chalmin’s 32-channel automated API 1608 console is the perfect fit for his semi-private space. Chalmin began as a musician, but his interest in pro audio gear has turned him into an engineer who has worked on everything from alternative rock to classical music.

Chalmin did his fair share of research before deciding on the 1608 and chose the console based on the API sound, character, and API 500 Series format. “The preamps are amazing, so already while tracking you get your sound. Then, during the mix, you have huge headroom to play with. Automation is simple and straightforward. It brings the console to another level. This console is a dream!” says Chalmin.

VIRGINIA ARTS – Charlottesville, Virginia Next, Virginia Art’s (Virginia’s oldest operating commercial studio) opted for a 16 channel API 1608, again with P-Mix automation. The console will serve as the flagship in Virginia Arts Recording, owned by Chris Doermann and engineered by Sean Dart.

The 1608 has already served many local and national acts, such as John Grisham, Thomas Dolby, Those Darlins, Ra Ra Riot, The Walkmen, Cowboy Junkies, and William and Mary Accidentals.
“The API brand has long been known for its excellent products. Sound and flexibility were among the top factors [in purchasing the 1608]. The console’s small footprint and low power draw was the perfect addition to our relatively small control room. Also, API’s staff welcomed us into the factory on day one and answered every question we’ve had since. And the biggest thing – great sound,” said Sean Dart.

EMERY RECORDING STUDIOS – Novelty, Ohio Final example, studio owner, producer, engineer and mixer, Eric Emery, chose a 16 channel automated API 1608 to represent his workspace, Emery Recording Studios, and his band, Concordia. Working under Johnny K. at Groovemaster Studios, as well as Grammy Award-winning mixer Craig Bauer, Emery’s 1608 choice of console has added a level of API professionalism to his studio, which has been in operation since 2005 when he was just 15 years old.

“The first time I heard that magical API Sound I was hooked. It just has that special punch you can’t get from anything else,” said Emery. “This console gives my mixes something I couldn’t get from any other piece of gear. This is a definite no-brainer if you want to achieve that truly commercial sound.”
