HARMAN’s Studer Touts VistaMix, Lexicon Effects and StuderBroadcastAcademy.com at CCW Expo

NEW YORK, New York – HARMAN’s Studer will be exhibiting at the Content and Communications World (CCW) Expo in New York City on November 13-14, showcasing its Vista 1 digital console, which is now available with VistaMix and Lexicon effects. Studer is also promoting the online version of its Studer Broadcast Academy.

Instead of needing to manually adjust all the faders each time, VistaMix automatically mimics the action of a human operator so the ‘talking’ mic gain can be increased at lightning speed while reducing gain for all others — ensuring a clean balanced mix.

Studer has added Lexicon effects to the Vista 1 console through an integrated VistaFX engine. VistaFX is a suite of effects processing engines capable of providing high-quality world-renowned Lexicon effects, and was released last year as an external engine for the Vista 5 and Vista 9 consoles ranges. The Vista 1 FX engines are all integral to the consoles DSP system, so require no external signal connection or patching. As all the hardware required already exists within the console, the new functionality is available as a software upgrade to existing consoles as well as provided as standard in new systems, and without loss of mix processing power or I/O capacity.

In addition, Studer will be promoting the online edition of its Broadcast Academy training course at StuderBroadcastAcademy.com. The popular and informative training program has been previously held in the United States on the Soundcraft Studer mobile audio truck, which has visited numerous locations of Studer regional sale rep firms and flagship Studer customers in recent years.

StuderBroadcastAcademy.com is an interactive online course for engineers worldwide to learn the operation of the company’s Vista Series digital mixing consoles. The course consists of a series of modules, which participants must complete and pass 100 percent to officially certify as a Studer Vista Operator. The course is structured in an interactive format and students can download the Virtual Vista software that gives them a graphic, active representation of a Vista console. Virtual Vista can also be used for offline console configuration and online remote control of Vista mixing consoles. Video segments, system and technical diagrams, a dictionary of terms and other resources round out the program.

“I’ve found Studer consoles to be very user-friendly, intuitively laid out and much easier to operate than a lot of digital consoles out there,” said Brian Pannier, a freelance audio engineer who has recently been using a Studer Vista 1 on “The Crowd Goes Wild” program on FOX Sports. “Just as importantly, the sound quality is top-notch and we’re using the Vista 1 to its complete and full capacity and it’s performing great.”

Studer will be exhibiting at CCW Expo at booth 1149. To book an appointment, please email studer-usa@harman.com

Gepco® Brand SMPTE Hybrid Fiber Cable Tester Introduced at CCW 2013

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 13, 2013 — General Cable is pleased to unveil its new Gepco® Brand SMPTE-304TS Hybrid Fiber Cable Tester at the 2013 Content and Communications World (CCW) conference and exhibition (Booth #1311) in New York City November 13-14, 2013. Ideal for use in sports/events broadcasting, fixed and mobile facilities or wherever a SMPTE HD camera cable is used, the SMPTE-304TS tests both electrical and optical circuits while the intuitive display graphically depicts which contact is defective or pinned out incorrectly.

Compatible with all SMPTE 304 standard cable, the SMPTE-304TS has a portable, hand-held design and provides over 40 hours of continuous use without recharging, while the diagnostic OLED backlit display can be easily seen in direct sunlight or at night. Each SMPTE-304TS test set includes a metering unit and optical source unit with black aluminum frames, a rechargeable NiMH battery with charger, a USB to USB-mini charging cable and a rugged ABS plastic carrying case.

“Because it tests both electrical and optical circuits, it’s the only tester needed for hybrid fiber camera cables,” said Joe Zajac, Sales and Applications Engineer for Gepco® Brand Products. “The portable design of the SMPTE-304TS Hybrid Fiber Cable Tester and its many features make it useful anywhere SMPTE HD camera cable is used.”

General Cable Debuts Gepco® Brand’s Breakthrough 7.2 mm Hybrid Fiber at CCW 2013

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 13, 2013 — General Cable is pleased to debut a breakthrough in hybrid fiber cabling for mobile and permanent install SMPTE applications with the new Gepco® Brand HDC720HD 7.2 mm Hybrid Fiber Cable at the 2013 Content and Communications World (CCW) conference and exhibition (Booth #1311) in New York City November 13-14, 2013. Radically different from typical industry products, the HDC720HD is the first piece of a patent-pending hybrid fiber system that solves the most common durability issues associated with SMPTE camera cables in a smaller, lightweight design.

The revolutionary construction of the HDC720HD starts with eliminating the typical heavy steel strength member which often contributes to premature cable failure due to different expansion and contraction rates of the individual elements within the SMPTE hybrid fiber cable during temperature extremes. In the HDC720HD, the steel is replaced by a Kevlar® strength member that has the same pull strength of steel, but is lighter and more flexible. Unlike steel, the Kevlar strength member expands and contracts at the same rate as the glass members. Using Kevlar in place of steel also means the cable has virtually no memory making the cable easier to pay off, lay flat and wind back up on the drum.

For further durability, the HDC720HD utilizes bend-insensitive fiber elements with very low attenuation and a bend radius of 0.2 mm—versus 2.0 mm for traditional single-mode fiber—in a breakout style with additional Kevlar protection around the individual fibers.

In the HDC720HD, the typical outer braid is replaced with two 18 AWG drain wires that allow the cable to be more flexible, lighter and smaller in diameter. The master jacket of HDC720HD is polyurethane, which is tougher than PVC for rugged outdoor use, and its glossy finish reduces the pickup of dirt and debris from outside applications, making it easier to keep clean.

With a 31-percent smaller diameter and a 40 percent weight savings over 9.2 mm cables, HDC720HD allows 300 meters of cable on a drum in the same space and with less weight than 200 meters of 9.2 mm cable occupies.

“The new HDC720HD cable fixes so many of the common issues with SMPTE hybrid fiber camera cables with the added bonus of being smaller and lightweight,” said Joe Zajac, Sales and Applications Engineer for Gepco® Brand Products. “This makes the HDC720HD extremely ideal for use in portable applications and with high-definition Steadicams.”

LynTec to Launch Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution Panel at LDI 2013

RPCM is Industry’s First Intelligent Mobile Power Distro Panel Offering Three Distinct Features

LENEXA, Kan. — Nov. 13, 2013 — LynTec, a leading manufacturer of customized electrical power control for professional audio, video, and lighting systems, today introduced its new Remote Power Control Mobile (RPCM) — the first intelligent power distribution panel to bring three distinct new features to the mobile power distribution market. With motorized circuit breakers, current monitoring at the branch circuit level, and remote monitoring capabilities, the RPCM brings smarter mobile power distribution to houses of worship, theaters, arenas/stadiums, and other temporary entertainment venues. Making its debut at LDI 2013 in Las Vegas Nov. 22-24, LynTec will offer working demonstrations of the RPCM at booth 1367.

“We are thrilled to introduce our groundbreaking RPCM mobile power distro at LDI 2013,” said Mark Bishop, president of LynTec. “Fully satisfied with the features and performance of our popular RPC installed panels, our customers have demanded the same forward-thinking functionalities within a portable solution. The RPCM is the result of listening to these requests, and there is nothing else like it on the market.”

An industry breakthrough, the RPCM uses switch-grade motorized circuit breakers to provide electrical protection and on/off control within a single enclosure, enabling simple power distribution and control for production companies within large, live venues. To enable real-time load balance and notification alarms, the unit provides the ability to perform current monitoring at the branch circuit level. Circuits can also be turned on or off sequentially, providing significant benefits when being powered by a generator. A built-in Web server allows users to monitor and control distribution directly on the network or from any browser-enabled smart device.

To protect large events during demanding load mixing situations, the RPCM lets users monitor loads on specific circuits. As a result, they can immediately see the impact of added demand on the unit’s interface — providing a straightforward and complete data overview. The RPCM is programmable to send circuit alerts by text or email, allowing users to take action remotely for greater flexibility and more efficient energy control, including the ability to perform remote hard reboots of connected devices. For increased space and cost savings, the circuit breaker panel can also be used for remote on/off control.

As lighting professionals increasingly turn to LED solutions, the RPCM can be used to control non-dimmed circuits as a more efficient alternative to dimmers. Since dimming is performed directly within LED fixtures, traditional on/off control at the dimmer rack-level is eliminated, resulting in the need for circuit-based on/off control. Available as a custom-built box, the RPCM can also be used with third-party control systems using DMX, sACN, or TCP/IP protocols to provide flexible interfacing with all popular platforms.

LynTec’s RPCM is available now. More information on RPCM and LynTec’s full line of products is available at www.LynTec.com.
