Holt Renfrew Partners With Gridcast Media Inc. To Create Engaging 29 Ft. High NanoLumens LED Display For Re-Design Of Toronto Yorkdale Store

Holt Renfrew, a chain of high-end Canadian department stores specializing in select luxury brands and designer boutiques, has partnered with Gridcast Media, a Canadian visual communications consulting firm, to create one of the largest indoor LED display implementations within the Canadian retail industry.

Gridcast Media partnered with NanoLumens, an award winning leader in custom LED display technology, and Dot2Dot, exclusive Canadian distributor of the Scala Content Management software, to design and develop this “one-of-a-kind” digital canvas for Holt Renfrew. The façade reflects the unique architectural styling envisioned in the re-design of the Yorkdale store. Gridcast’s vision for the project was to create a living architectural piece.
The new LED display stands at the front of Holt Renfrew’s re-designed store in Yorkdale Mall and features six 29 foot tall by 4 foot wide panels displaying the latest fashion trends in dynamic imagery to wow passers-by and to welcome them into the store. The layout design provides Holt Renfrew with a creative platform to display digital content on each individual column or content spanning across the entire façade. The displays feature a sharp 6 mm pixel pitch to give people outside and inside of the store a sharp, crisp image. The entire display features over 1.5 million LED packages.

Sales Of Unified Communications Products Grew 94% In 2013, Stampede Reports

With more than a month still left to go in the current sales year, Stampede Presentation Products, Inc. today announced that sales of its Unified Communications products grew by 94% in 2013 — a record-shattering rate of growth that will only continue to explode in 2014 and 2015. Indeed, according to Stampede President & COO Kevin Kelly, Stampede is committing itself to building an entire 21st century mix of products that are built around the concept of ‘The Internet of Things.’

“In order to remain the industry’s largest supplier of high value added ProAV solutions, we must take the steps required to build out our future product lines in ways that meet the needs of an increasingly Internet based, web centric ProAV customer,” Kelly emphasized today. “We have created a specialist team that is focused on meeting this goal. And we’ve formed a Tech Support team with AV, PC, Network and VC expertise to support the sales efforts of the specialist team. I believe this is a first for our industry.”

Currently, according to Kelly, Stampede is offering a first generation of ‘Internet of Things’ product portfolio centered around audio solutions from Phoenix Audio and Clear One; visual solutions from Sony, MediaPointe, and Vaddio; and software from Vidyo, Bluejeans, and ChorusCall. “In highly customized and integrated offerings these audio, visual, and software solutions are delivering high value added Unified Communications capabilities to a growing number of end user customers,” Kelly explained. “But it is just the beginning of where we as an industry are headed.”

Kelly emphasized that the ProAV industry is being challenged daily to stop using the terms ‘audio and video’ and start using the terms ‘see, hear and control’ in order to understand the business opportunities that this shift to ‘The Internet of Things’ era is creating. “The traditional AV industry is maturing and a new personalized industry is rising up to take its place, one that is built upon the ideas of connecting, integrating, and sharing devices in entirely new eco-systems built around highly customized software applications.”

Beginning in 2014, Stampede will be adding greater emphasis to a host of product categories, including video surveillance and security; IP video, cameras, and control; wireless audio; wearable devices; power line devices, and, of course, tablets and tablet accessories.

“Make no mistake about it. These categories are already established and they are only going to become huge in the years to come,” Kelly asserted. “Lest anyone doubt this, consider this fact: in 2013 Stampede sold 20,000 pairs of smart video glasses! If any one thing points the way to the future it is this remarkable sales achievement.”

Slovak National Theatre Upgrades to IC Live

Bratislava, Slovikia – November 2013… Completed in 1886, the Slovak National Theatre was designed by Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. Since 1920, the ornate, 1,000-seat building has been the seat of the Slovak National Theatre opera and ballet ensembles. The hall has also hosted performances by some of the world’s top opera and ballet talents.

Its acoustics, however, have come under more scrutiny. The room’s very short reverberation time, while acceptable for opera, doesn’t suit orchestral performances. Its narrow stage faces a long auditorium where the rear seats are 75 ft (22 m) away. Uneven sound coverage confronted its numerous balconies.

A subtle sound reinforcement system, effectively invisible to the audience, was needed, and the theater approached MediaTech, Bratislava’s largest pro audio company.

EASE analysis led to them recommending the IC Live digitally steerable system by Renkus-Heinz. Its clear, uncolored musical sound, the ability to steer multiple sound beams into specific areas of the audience offered precisely the solution that was needed. And its slim, low profile design — complete with a custom paint finish – complemented the theatre’s décor perfectly.

The system includes extra reverb for orchestral shows via a TC Electronics M6000, with a Yamaha PM5D console linked directly to the IC Live system via CobraNet. “The audience had to be unaware of sound reinforcement,” says MediaTech’s project manager Miroslav Paciga. “IC Live allowed us to achieve that subtle effect while being visually unnoticeable.”

###

Headquartered in Foothill Ranch, California, Renkus-Heinz, Inc. is the worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of audio operations networks, digitally steerable arrays, powered and non-powered loudspeakers, system specific electronics and fully integrated Reference Point Array systems.

BenQ’s Revamped M5 Projector Series Now Features Improved Brightness and Longer Lamp Life

New Projectors Offer Ultra-Bright 3000 ANSI Lumens, New Presenter Tools, and up to 10,000 Hours of Lamp Life

COSTA MESA, Calif. — Oct. 31, 2013 — BenQ America Corp., an internationally renowned provider of visual display solutions, today introduced its revamped line of M5 series projectors. Comprising the MS504, MS521, MX505, MX522, and MW523, the M5 series projectors specifically designed for small- to medium-sized spaces now bring an ultra-bright 3,000 ANSI lumens of brightness, Colorific(TM) image quality, and an astounding 10,000 hours of maximum lamp life for home, business, and education settings. The projector family’s newest products also feature both Blu-ray(TM) and stereoscopic 3D support in addition to a wide range of new presenter tools.

“Our latest M5 series projectors offer enhanced brightness and increased energy-savings for today’s multipurpose projection environments,” said Bob Wudeck, Associate Vice President, Strategy and Business Development at BenQ America Corp. “By increasing light levels to 3,000 lumens and extending lamp life to an incredible 10,000 hours, we’ve added tremendous value for users looking to bring amazing picture performance at a lower total cost of ownership for their small- to medium-sized rooms.”

Using BenQ’s world-leading SmartEco(TM) technology, the new M5 series projectors provide an industry-leading 10,000 hours of maximum lamp life to today’s living room, boardroom, and classroom applications. As a result, users can reduce their energy consumption without compromising picture quality. To further reduce power consumption, a “no source detected” mode automatically lowers brightness to 30 percent when no display has been detected for more than three minutes. In “Standby” mode, BenQ projectors also lower power consumption to less than 0.5W during periods of inactivity.

Available in SVGA (MS504 and MS521), XGA (MX505 and MX522), and WXGA (MW523) resolutions, the new projectors feature BenQ’s Colorific image quality to provide users with accurate, crisp, and long lasting color. As a result, users experience up to 1 billion stunning colors without experiencing light burn or color degradation over extended usage — further reducing the devices’ total cost of ownership. Thanks to high contrast ratios of 13000:1, BenQ’s M5 series projectors deliver sharper picture quality, which enables the reproduction of finely detailed images in a variety of ambient lighting settings and adds to the flexibility of the projectors’ installation options.

For 3D entertainment, the MS521, MX522, and MW523 feature 3D Blu-ray compatibility while the MS504 and MX505 deliver stereoscopic 3D-ready projection — providing viewers with the same immersive 3D effects found in today’s movie theaters. When purchasing an MS504 or MX505 projector, users also obtain 3D glasses, in addition to a content card and video card. For classroom settings, the MS504 and MX505 projectors add an audio pass-through function when teachers require only sound, while the projectors’ teaching templates enable presenters to write on whiteboards without the need to draw lines. To minimize disruptions, administrators can also easily replace lamps on the go using the new upper lamp door on the MS504 and MX505.

Available end of November 2013, BenQ’s new MS504, MS521, MX505, MX522, and MW523 retail at $429, $489, $499, $529, and $749 respectively. Additional information on BenQ’s full line of products is available at www.BenQ.us.

LynTec Updates RPC Panel With Powerful New Features

Enhanced Version Combines Latest Motorized Circuit Breaker Technology With New and Improved Controller

LENEXA, Kan. — Oct. 30, 2013 — LynTec, a leading manufacturer of customized electrical power control for installed audio, video, and lighting systems, today announced the availability of its RPC (Remote Power Controller) Series Panel version 2. RPC v2 is designed to facilitate system build-outs by accelerating the design and installation process as well as decreasing operating costs. The update combines the latest generation of motorized circuit breaker technology with a new and improved controller, featuring more memory and a faster processor for real-time monitoring down to the circuit level and the capacity to use multiple control protocols simultaneously — now including sACN.

Engineered to protect and control installed entertainment AVL systems, LynTec’s RPC v2 provides increased memory capacity and faster internal processing. The controller is available across the entire RPC product line, enabling users to experience familiar point-and-click installation and setup with the company’s motorized circuit breaker panels, retrofit relay panels, and mobile power distribution panels. The RPC v2 also features two important market firsts: the capacity to use multiple control protocols simultaneously and an emergency auto-on function to activate egress lighting via contact closure inputs from fire alarms.

“Before the update, using multiple protocols simultaneously within a single panel was very difficult,” said Mark Bishop, president of LynTec. “With RPC version 2, we’ve revolutionized AVL power control by creating the ultimate, all-in-one panel for simpler operation and deployments, giving our customers faster processing times, more protocol options, and the ability to monitor current draws in real time on any browser-enabled device.”

The RPC controller features an onboard server that is accessible on a network or from any smart device as well as motorized circuit breakers that can be loaded per specific user requirements. The device also includes built-in auto-off and brownout features that allow controlled shutdown and restart of circuit breakers, optional sequential on/off at the circuit level, and the ability for third-party control directly from systems via TCP/IP, DMX, RS-232, sACN, or contact closures.

As of November 2013, customers ordering an RPC panel, RPCR relay panel, or RPCM mobile power distro panel will automatically receive the RPC v2 upgrade. More information on LynTec and the company’s full line of products is available at www.LynTec.com.

Broadcast Pix Demonstrates Upgraded Flint, Granite X Integrated Production Systems at CCW

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ will demonstrate Version 2.0 of its new Flint™ integrated production system, as well as upgrades to its new Granite™ X large-scale live production system, at Content & Communications World (Booth 861), Nov. 13-14, 2013, at Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Recently unveiled at IBC 2013 in Amsterdam, Flint V2 adds an internal eight-channel audio mixer, as well as broadcast quality internal H.264 recording and.WMV Web streaming, while Granite X has improved its multi-view monitoring and added advanced DDR control. Both Granite X and Flint can add cloud-based content – from Skype, Twitter, RSS feeds, Dropbox, and a variety of other online sources – during a live production while maintaining lip sync.

Flint’s new audio mixer takes audio from any camera input or internal clip store, and is controlled through an intuitive audio interface with on-screen stereo faders and VU meters. Other features include peak hold capability, mute and solo functions, and built-in audio-follow-video. Two outputs allow separate mixes with independent control for master recording and Web presentations. The audio mixer can also be controlled through Fluent Macros, an advanced macro system that easily executes any combination of video, audio, files, and device moves for complex effects.

“Flint was designed specifically for operations with limited budgets and limited manpower,” explained Steve Ellis, Broadcast Pix CEO. “An integrated audio mixer means one less piece of hardware to purchase plus easier audio control. It’s an important addition for our commitment to end-to-end integration.”

Expanding on its included Adobe Flash streaming, Flint V2 adds the ability to steam to a Windows Media Server using Microsoft Expression Encoder in up to 720p resolution. Flint V2 also adds built-in recording of the program output to the internal hard drive. Broadcast quality 1080i H.264 .MOV clips can be added to a show automatically using Fluent™ Watch Folders, Flint’s built-in file management system, or exported to an NLE system for later use.

Another enhancement adds a network input so video and audio from a Windows-based PC can be accessed as a source in Flint’s built-in production switcher. This not only reduces the amount of physical inputs, but allows cloud-based content from Skype and other sources, as well as other remote applications, to be seamlessly integrated into a live production.

Flint’s multi-format 1 M/E production switcher supports up to six cameras and includes eight channels of clips and graphics, three keyers with PiP and customizable DVE, Inscriber CG with six graphic channels, and a built-in, two-channel clip server stores up to 30 hours of clips and animations in a variety of file formats. Other features include the customizable Fluent-View multi-view, customizable virtual sets, and control of robotic cameras and other external devices.

Granite X improvements include advanced Fluent-View customizable multi-view capabilities, with 16 full motion source windows. It also offers enhanced DDR control that allows for different clips in each of the four channels of Harris, Omneon, Grass Valley K2, and 360 Systems servers. Ideal for large-scale productions, the 2 M/E Granite X features a Granite Switcher with 22 HD/SD-SDI inputs and 12 outputs, seven channels of file-based inputs, and six key layers for compositing. The system also includes a Granite Server that holds up to 180 hours of clips and graphics, Fluent™ integrated workflow tools, and redundant power and switching.

Flint V2 will ship in November with all new Flint systems and will be a free upgrade for all Flint systems under warranty. Granite X is now shipping and the new upgrades are available for any current user.
