ABS to Design, Integrate AV Systems Throughout New Building for USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism

SEATAC, WA — Professional video and audio systems integration firm Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) today announced it has been awarded the contract to design, integrate, and deploy expansive video and audio technology solutions for Wallis Annenberg Hall, a new building for the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. As part of a multimillion-dollar technology investment, the project includes television and radio broadcast production and post-production systems for a 20,000-square-foot converged newsroom/media center.

The school broke ground for Wallis Annenberg Hall in late 2012. Scheduled to open next fall, the 88,000-square-foot, five-floor building will feature technology-rich classrooms and multi-purpose rooms, as well as an auditorium, ground-level public forum, and research labs. ABS will design and build television, radio, and webcast studios, as well as control rooms and edit bays, to support the newsroom environment. The project will also include the installation of a media asset management system, which will be used by students across the school.

“As a graduate of USC, this is a very personal project for me,” said Mark Siegel, president, ABS. “We are embracing the school’s converged media concept and incorporating technologies that will keep USC on the leading edge of media education.”

ABS is taking a phased approach to the project. Currently in Phase I, the company is evaluating technologies that will maintain the integrity of the school’s converged workflow while remaining sensitive to budgetary restraints. Initial plans include equipment and software from Adobe, Avid, Primestream, and Ross. Phase II, which will include equipment procurement and installation, is expected to be complete by the end of April 2014.

New DVI KVM over IP Extender from Gefen Gives Flexible, Scalable Access to Computers in Network-Based Environments

Seamlessly Access Real-Time Data with Ease from any Preferred
Workstation with Local Output for Video Monitoring

Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today
announced the availability of its new DVI KVM over IP extender with
local DVI output. This new product facilitates remote access to
servers from workstations placed up to 660 feet (200m) away over an
existing Local Area Network. It supports high resolution digital video
in the DVI format, four USB ports for connecting keyboard, mouse and
other peripherals, analog audio from server to workstation and RS-232
extension over the LAN. Each sender and receiver can be connected
directly or through a Gigabit network switch using a single CAT-5
cable. Each cable run can be up to 100 meters.

((Ideal for demanding applications in hospitality, retail,
post-production, broadcast, telecommunications and mission-critical
control centers, Gefen’s DVI KVM over IP can help improve the
efficiency of data access, increase productivity and streamline
equipment setup. Because a workstation can be placed anywhere within a
100 meter distance from the network switch, this high performance
solution vastly improves the ability to access data from a remote
location.((

A robust set of features further strengthens performance and
versatility. Each sender and receiver can be configured to operate in
a one-to-one relationship in which the receiver can only access a
specific sender, or all senders and receivers on the LAN can be
assigned unique IP addresses to facilitate the routing of up to 256
senders to any receiver. This creates a scalable, virtual cross-point
matrix without any additional wiring. In this configuration, each
receiver will be able to access any of the senders within its network.
The DVI KVM over IP can also be combined on the same LAN with
Gefen’s HDMI and VGA KVM over IP extenders, allowing a convenient
and efficient method of video format conversion within the
infrastructure.

((Each sender is also equipped with a loop-through DVI output so that
users can install a local display at the computer (sender) side for
monitoring video. The receiver also includes a built-in Ethernet
switch and two additional Ethernet ports for connecting IP-enabled
devices at the remote location. Each DVI KVM over IP extender includes
a web server interface for easy operation, configuration and setup.
Alternative methods of control include keyboard switching software or
the push-buttons on the front panel.

Carl Tatz Design MixRoom™ and PhantomFocus™ System Reach New Rocky Mountain Sonic High

- Carbondale, Colorado’s Chante Pejuta MixRoom™ and Aspen’s Great Divide Dual 5.1 PhantomFocus™ System signal Colorado trend in demand for ultimate monitoring experience -

Nashville, TN: Multiple TEC Award-nominated studio designer Carl Tatz – principal of Carl Tatz Design LLC and creator of the revolutionary MixRoom™ concept, which pairs the Carl Tatz Signature Series™ acoustic modules by Auralex with the unrivaled accuracy of the PhantomFocus™ System (PFS™) monitor tuning protocol – has recently completed a beautiful new personal MixRoom (known as “Chante Pejuta”) for singer/songwriter Eaden Shantay. Located in Carbondale, Colorado, just outside of the legendary ski resort town of Aspen, Chante Pejuta is the latest example of how the MixRoom concept can transform a simple rectangular room into the new standard for audio monitoring environments.

“Carl’s experience and attention to detail were off the charts. His Signature Series acoustic modules by Auralex, including the Acoustic Lens™, were custom installed with great precision,” describes studio owner Eaden Shantay, who has just released his new album, Endless Sea. “It not only looks great but when sitting in the console chair inside of the PFS sweet spot, the sound is totally amazing. The audio on every track is vividly revealed within a three-dimensional soundscape, which greatly enhances recording, editing and mixing. I could not be more pleased with this creation. Carl, you knocked it out of the park.”

During the twenty-one-day Chante Pejuta MixRoom installation, Tatz also returned to Jamie Rosenberg’s Great Divide Recording Studios, Aspen, Colorado’s premier recording facility. Tatz was requested to bring the studio’s Dual PFS up to the latest PFS specs using the new implementation protocols for the two-channel ADAM S3X-H near-field system and the 5.1 soffited ATC SCM 150 mains system. “As amazing as the systems performed before,” commented Rosenberg, “They now sound like new speakers.”

“Having lived in Colorado for five years before moving to Nashville, I’m reminded of the ‘closer to God’ vibe you feel living over a mile above sea level,” recalls studio designer Carl Tatz. “We’re very grateful to continue to be recommended and hired to implement our studio designs and PhantomFocus Systems here in this wonderful area with strong interest for more in the future.”

First Electronic Nameplate Solution for Efficient Meeting Environments

With the new product HCS-1030U Electronic Nameplate, TAIDEN has taken one more significant step towards achieving paperless meetings and leading innovation in the conferencing field. Media Vision, the point of contact for TAIDEN sales and support, is proud to offer this new solution already installed at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and featured at major events such as for Malala Yousafzai’s address to the UN Youth Assembly in July view video.

“It is hard to believe how much dedicated time and personnel organizations use solely to print and place individual nameplates prior to each meeting.” Says Fardad Zabetian, CEO of Media Vision, “The Electronic Nameplate is making meeting management more efficient and convenient while representing a significant source of cost savings”.

Available as a standalone solution or as part of a conferencing system installation, the electronic nameplate can display information such as the name and title of participants, the conference name/logo, the company name/logo, the country name, the participant’s seat and more flexible options. Meeting attendees see their information displayed electronically upon sign-in. Sign-in can be done remotely by the operator or by the participant itself using personal IC cards.

The soft display on the front and rear of the unit, with white text on a black background, prevents the nameplate from emitting too much light and delivers great results for photographs and video recordings. With a low power consumption design the energy and environment are also well thought off.

The TAIDEN HCS-1030U is the ultimate solution for modern meeting environments, especially recommended for installation in legislative assembly rooms, interactive training facilities or international conference centers.
