Kramer Introduces the VP−794, 8−Input Universal Live Events Scaler/Switcher/Blend & Warp for Projection & LED Videowalls

Integrated Systems Europe 2014 will see the introduction of the very first model in Kramer’s new professional & events range, the VP−794 multi−input scaler designed for scaling, scan conversation, professional edge−blend and warping of video content on to projection and LED video wall displays as well as for general purpose events & broadcast scaling. The VP−794 is multi−personality; it can be switched between LED, Projection or Scaler/Scan Converter modes, greatly appealing to rental and staging providers as it permits a single model to be held in an inventory.

The introduction of the VP−794 is a result of the recent announcement of the joint cooperation between Calibre UK, British electronics manufacturer and electronics designer, manufacturer and supplier, Kramer Electronics, Ltd.

“The most powerful and easy to use scaler in its class, the VP−794 is targeted towards rental, large venue and fixed installations as well as premium digital signage applications,” said Tim Brooksbank, Chairman of Calibre UK who also manages this new product range within Kramer Electronics, Ltd.

Performance and functionality combined
The VP−794 is based on Calibre UK’s HQView architecture optimised for low latency scaling to arbitrary active image sizes. The VP−794 features powerful dual−processor architecture with 16−bit professional−grade blend processing with de−gamma, post−warp blending for optimal blend and warp performance and curved screen warping.

The VP−794 can capture a live image for display as a still, for example a customer logo screen or backdrop. Unlike other scalers available in the market, the VP−794 can scale, warp and blend this captured image, which is a valuable benefit for LED & Projection displays.

Offering the industry’s best image calibration and flexibility, the VP−794 offers per input channel RGB, Bri/Con/Saturation/Hue controls, including on digital and computer graphics inputs. This is an important feature for color matching images and displays on−set.

The VP−794 video inputs include HDMI, DVI, VGA, Component, Composite, YC/SVideo and 3G−SDI inputs and Separate Genlock. Audio pass−through and de−embed is achieved from 3G−SDI & HDMI to 3G−SDI, HDMI & SPDIF. The VP−794 has a Built−in Test Pattern Generator including SMPTE Bars, Pluge, Aspect Ratio Test, Greyscale as well as custom downloadable test patterns that are accessible via web browser interface.

With ease of use in mind, the rack−mountable VP−794 has front panel LCD menu with a jog−shuttle wheel for fast setup. Remote control over a network takes advantage of an inbuilt webserver.

Designed with the application in mind
In projection environments, the VP−794 can be used for scaling, edge blending, warping, geometry correction and color correction. For use with flat panel displays, the VP−794 performs outstanding scaling and switching, scan conversion, rotation, portrait mode and color correction.

For video wall display, the VP−794 performs vital functions such as downscaling, pixel accurate sizing, arbitrary image size and color correction. The VP−794 has a dedicated LED videowall processing mode with ultra−easy to configure output window sizing using ‘drag and drop’ and automatic pan/tilt/zoom adjusting to the fit LED videowall, which remains correct even if the input resolution or channel is changed.
See the VP−794 multi−input scaler first at the Kramer Electronics stand 1F20 at Integrated Systems Europe 2014, Amsterdam RAI.

Systems Integrator 956 Group Takes HARMAN Professional Audio Components to Planet Fun For the Ultimate Bingo Experience

PORDENONE, Italy – Systems integrator 956 Group recently installed a full HARMAN Professional audio system at the new multi-room entertainment venue Planet Fun, located in Zoppola, Italy. Mille Uno Bingo, the group that owns Planet Fun, wanted to break conventional wisdom and develop a new concept by expanding their bingo halls into a wider range of entertainment.

The leisure complex now features live music rooms, a piano bar, meeting rooms and dance studios, redesigned at a cost of 4 million Euros. It features JBL loudspeakers supported by Crown amplifiers, AKG microphones and dbx signal processing. Pro audio distributor Leading Technologies provided all of the sound equipment.

“So far, the installation has been well received by the clients, who commented positively on the quality of the audio experience,” according to project manager Valentino Mengato of 956 Group. “All the JBL components used were selected to not only match the demanded level of performance, but to also minimize aesthetic impact on the rooms.”

The two bingo halls, with 700 tables, are the centerpiece of the entertainment venue, and feature multiple JBL Control 26C ceiling loudspeakers. The dance studios feature six JBL STX812 high-power loudspeakers and the new ASB6125 subwoofers, as well as 10 JBL Control 26C ceiling loudspeakers. The bingo halls also include eight AKG DGN 99 microphones distributed across the ceiling to catch the voices of the players.

To accommodate the rather complex acoustics of the piano bar, Group 956 installed four JBL Control 328C loudspeakers, 12 Control 26 loudspeakers and two Control 312CS subwoofers into the ceiling. Finally, the multi-purpose room features 16 JBL AC 2215 loudspeakers and four ASB6125 subwoofers that are integrated within the video boards.

While Crown XTi amplifiers power the system, the sound is processed by a dbx DriveRack 260 Loudspeaker Management System, which provides full bandpass and crossover configurations as well as independent output processing. It is the popular choice among contractors, due to its inputs for wall-panel logic control and its Advanced Feedback Suppression (AFS™).

“We chose Pordenone to launch our unique formula,” explained Enrico Polo, the administrator of Mille Uno Bingo. “If the model that we launch here works, then we are ready to replicate the success in larger cities such as Bologna and Florence.”

HARMAN (www.harman.com) designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of audio and infotainment solutions for the automotive, consumer and professional markets – supported by 15 leading brands, including AKG®, Harman Kardon®, Infinity®, JBL®, Lexicon® and Mark Levinson®. The Company is admired by audiophiles across multiple generations and supports leading professional entertainers and the venues where they perform. More than 25 million automobiles on the road today are equipped with HARMAN audio and infotainment systems. HARMAN has a workforce of 14,600 people across the Americas, Europe, and Asia and reported sales of $4.5 billion for the last twelve months ended September 30, 2013.

Masque Sound Spreads Holiday Cheer with Custom Audio Equipment Package for A Christmas Story, The Musical

Masque Sound, a leading theatrical sound reinforcement, installation and design company provided Sound Designer Ken Travis with a custom audio equipment package for A Christmas Story, The Musical. This is the third straight year that Masque Sound worked with Travis on the hilarious, holiday favorite. The show opened in New York City at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on December 11, following performances at Hartford’s Bushnell Theatre and the Wang Theatre in Boston.

Directed by Tony Award-winner John Rando and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, A Christmas Story, The Musical is a hilarious account of Ralphie Parker’s desperate quest to ensure that the one thing he wants for Christmas, an official Red Ryder® Carbine-Action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle, ends up under his tree. The musical, based on the classic 1983 film, which itself was derived from stories by legendary radio humorist Jean Shepherd and a book by Joseph Robinette, features funny and heartfelt songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

After a successful holiday run on Broadway last year, the show returned to the Big Apple once again and, for Travis and his team, the unique layout and large size of the 5,000-seat theater at Madison Square Garden (MSG) presented some interesting challenges.

“We are limited with what we can do from a sound design point of view due to The Theater at MSG’s low ceilings,” says Travis. “We cannot hang a center cluster like we do in many Broadway houses, because there is simply no room for it. In addition, The Theater at MSG is three times as wide and three times as deep as a typical Broadway house, and seats about two and half times more people. There is also no orchestra pit, so the orchestra is seated in boxes on house right. Add all of that up and you can see why designing the sound had its obstacles. We are basically trying to cover the house as best we can, so we are supplementing the in-house system with the gear that Masque Sound provided us.”

Another challenge Travis faced was the limited run of the show – a month and a half during the holidays. “We had to build [a sound system] based on whatever the shop had on the shelf,” adds Travis. “You can’t ask the shop to hold a system that is going to be out for only six weeks of the year. Fortunately, Masque Sound knows the gear I like to use and has an excellent inventory for us to work with.”

In order to provide complete coverage with great sound, Masque Sound provided Travis with a Studer Vista 5, his preferred console and the same one that he used for last year’s production. “The Studer console is very flexible, solid, sounds great, is fast and definitely easy to program,” adds Travis.

To complement the existing house speaker system, Masque Sound provided Travis with an array of
L-Acoustics dV-DOSC speakers for the main left and right and Meyer Sound UPA-2Ps for the fill system. In addition, Masque Sound also provided 30 Sennheiser SK 5012 Transmitters and matching 1046 Receivers, as well as RF frequency coordination for the show.
“My associates, Zach Williamson and Justin Stasiw, along with Mixer Mike Wojchik and the rest of my crew did an amazing job,” concludes Travis. “My team and I always enjoy working with Masque Sound, and their rental gear and support helped make this year’s show another success. The audio package looks good and sounds great.”

A Christmas Story, The Musical returns to the New York for the 2013 holiday season at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, December 11-29. The story takes place in 1940′s Indiana, where a bespectacled boy named Ralphie has a big imagination and one wish for Christmas-a Red Ryder BB Gun. A kooky leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a cranky department store Santa, and a triple dog dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the obstacles that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas dream. Co-produced by the film’s original Ralphie, Peter Billingsley, A Christmas Story, The Musical is musical comedy entertainment that captures a simpler time in America with delicious wit and a heart of gold. A Christmas Story, The Musical features a bright holiday score by the Tony nominated composer/lyricist team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a witty book by Tony Award nominated Joseph Robinette based on the writings of radio humorist Jean Shepherd and the 1983 holiday film favorite. Tony Award winner John Rando (Urinetown) directs the production with Warren Carlyle (After Midnight, Chaplin) choreographing; scenic design by Walt Spangler; costume design by Elizabeth Hope Clancy; lighting design by Howell Binkley; sound design by Ken Travis; wig design by Tom Watson; animal training by Tony Honor R recipient for Excellence in Theatre William Berloni; orchestrations by Larry Blank; music supervision by Ian Eisendrath; associate choreographer is James Gray; dance music arrangements by Glen Kelly; vocal arrangements by Justin Paul; music direction by Ben Whiteley; and casting by Stephanie Klapper CSA. A Christmas Story, The Musical is produced by Gerald Goehring, Roy Miller, Michael F. Mitri, Pat Flicker Addiss, Peter Billingsley, Timothy Laczynski, Mariano Tolentino, Louise H. Beard, Michael Filerman, Scott Hart, Alison Eckert, Bob Bartner, Michael Jenkins, Angela Milonas, and Bradford W. Smith. A Christmas Story, The Musical is based upon the motion picture A Christmas Story C 1983 Turner Entertainment Co., distributed by Warner Bros., written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown and Bob Clark, and In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash written by Jean Shepherd. A Christmas Story, The Musical is produced with permission of Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Inc. and Dalfie Entertainment, Inc. Masterworks Broadway released the World Premiere Recording of A Christmas Story, The Musical both digitally and on CD. Tickets are on sale now. For tickets and information, visit www.theateratmsg.com/achristmasstory, www.AChristmasStoryTheMusical.com, or call 866-858-0008.

ASHLY PEMA 8250 PROCESSOR/AMPLIFIERS GET SAUCY AT 4 RIVERS SMOKEHOUSE

WEBSTER, NEW YORK – DECEMBER 2013: Now with five locations in Florida that regularly generate lines out the door, 4 Rivers Smokehouse is one of the fastest growing restaurants in the Southeast. The young chain and everything it stands for, from perfected BBQ to generous philanthropy, is driven by the passion of successful businessman John Rivers. Indeed, it is rumored that Rivers worked for fifteen years, taking careful notes on copious spreadsheets to perfect the 4 Rivers Smokehouse sauces before launching the restaurant and its associated line of bottled products. Rivers is also passionate about music, and with the help of Sound Stage of Winter Park, Florida, his restaurants pulse with inspired tunes tweaked to perfection (much like his sauces) by an eight-channel Ashly Pema 8250 Protea™-Equipped Media Amplifier.

“An important thing to know about the owner, Mr. Rivers, is that he loves music,” explained Joe Forbes, systems consultant at Sound Stage. “Before we became involved with the restaurant, he opened a few locations in which the music playback system hadn’t been given a lot of consideration. Mr. Rivers wanted something that would give full-fidelity, full-impact music the role he felt it deserved at 4 Rivers Smokehouse. We knew we could help.” Sound Stage designed and installed the music playback system at the next 4 Rivers Smokehouse location using the Ashly Pema 8250 together with JBL Control Contractor-Series loudspeakers, and its success earned Sound Stage the same role at every subsequent new location.

Each system begins with a simple music source that feeds an Ashly Pema 8250. An ambient noise-sensing microphone on an input to the Pema 8250 engages Ashly’s Ambient Noise Compensation feature, which automatically adjusts the overall volume level based on how busy the restaurant gets. That feature is important because 4 Rivers Smokehouse can go from empty at opening to packed so quickly that managers and staff are justifiably focused on matters other than the music volume. Depending on the situation at a particular location, the eight 250-watt amp channels of the Ashly Pema 8250 feed some composition of JBL Control 25AV, Control 19, or Control 24 loudspeakers and some number of JBL Control SB210 subwoofers. “These systems are full-range and have plenty of power… they rock!” said Forbes.

He continued, “Our experience with Ashly began with its NE-Series amplifiers, which are great. But in a situation like this, the Pema range carries that same great sound and power, and a small footprint, but adds all of the front-end processing that we need. Working with Ashly has always been easy, and the tech support is fantastic.” Forbes cited Ashly’s collection of straightforward, inexpensive user controls as another factor working in Ashly’s favor. In the case of 4 Rivers Smokehouse, he uses a handful of Ashly WR-1 dual potentiometer remotes, which provide volume control for two adjacent zones using just one wire.

ABOUT ASHLY AUDIO Ashly Audio Inc. is recognized as a world leader in the design and manufacturing of high quality & high performance signal processing equipment and power amplification for use in the commercial sound contracting and professional audio markets. The 37-year old company is headquartered in Webster, New York U.S.A.
