YCD Multimedia Announces New, Advanced Version of its Video and Audio Player

New York, December 20, 2013 – YCD Multimedia, a leading global provider of smart digital media solutions, announced a new version release of YCD|Player, an automated and fully synchronized video and audio player. Version 4.3 includes support for Windows 8, in addition to several content management enhancements, such as improved layout loading and editing and simple playlist management. The new version also features improvements for YCD|Agent instructions and enhanced content encryption, as well as other modifications for improved usability.

Improvements in layout loading and editing include several new features in play mode, as a result of the new LoadLayout command. Play modes included in the new version allow loading a playlist before the current track has finished, or the mixing of a current track with a new track. There is now a stop/start feature between two playlists during playback. Layout editor also supports an option for the user to “clear” a specific playlist layer with a single click, or to shuffle between any set of playlist layers after they have been loaded.

YCD|Agent, the point of communication between YCD|CMS and YCD|Player, now includes the capability for auto-synch and introduces specific commands to be dispatched with content uploads via XML for immediate processing, to enhance management and control of synchronized content transfer and playback. Users can now easily update playlists in runtime, save and modify playlists in memory and store the modifications to files and activate several callback commands.

Bose® RoomMatch® System Gives Knoxville’s Calvary Chapel a Great-Sounding Start

Church leadership became aware of RoomMatch® array module loudspeakers at last year’s WFX show and heard what they needed for their newly built sanctuary

Framingham, Massachusetts, December 19, 2013 – Calvary Chapel spent its first 16 years of operating out of a low-slung building in a shopping center in Knoxville, Tennessee. But as its congregation doubled in size and then doubled again, it was eagerly preparing for the day it would build its own church building on its own land. After a decade and a half of saving towards that goal, Calvary Chapel of Knoxville opened its new 22,000-square-foot, 800-seat church on 43 acres. And the sound system it chose for that new sanctuary consisted of RoomMatch® loudspeakers from Bose® Professional Systems. Knoxville-based design and installation firm DFA Solutions installed a left-right monaural sound system consisting of two RM2020 modules topped with an RM9010 module on either side of the stage. The entire system is powered by three Bose PowerMatch® PM8500N networkable power amplifiers.

“The church’s leaders have been good stewards of the congregation’s finances, which is what enabled them to save up to buy the land for the new church, so they naturally wanted to be cautious about choosing the first sound system for the new sanctuary,” explains Jay Bodiford, Design Manager and Sales Engineer for DFA Solutions. The church leaders had done their research and had two manufacturers’ systems in mind to look at when they attended the September 2012 WFX show in Atlanta. Bodiford, who had specified and installed RoomMatch systems in other area churches, including First Baptist Church of Sevierville and Church Street United Methodist in Knoxville, suggested that they also give the RoomMatch system a listen. They did, and returned to Knoxville with a plan for a Bose system and a plan from another manufacturer for comparison.

“When we compared the two plans side by side, it was clear that the Bose RoomMatch system would give them the audio they were looking for at a far better value,” says Bodiford. “There was a significant savings on the cost of the system for the same amount of horsepower and what I believe is better sound quality. The system went in easily and required very little tuning. I cannot think of a better way for this church building to start off than with this Bose RoomMatch system.”

Clay Paky Sharpys are Winners at “Miss America 2014” Pageant

The Miss America pageant returned to its Atlantic City origins this year and lighting designer Allen Branton was charged with lighting the cavernous Boardwalk Hall and making sure 53 beautiful women looked their best whenever the TV camera turned their way. He was aided by Clay Paky Sharpy and Sharpy Wash fixtures from Atomic Lighting in Lititz, Pennsylvania.

Branton marked his sixth consecutive year lighting the pageant, which was televised on ABC-TV. After spending a number of years in Las Vegas the show moved back to Atlantic City where “the venue, audience and scenery doubled in size,” he reports. “Given the size of the hall and way the show was set in the room, every single element of production had to be rigged from overhead – and there’s no permanent rigging infrastructure. So there were 240 individual rigging points for lighting, sound, video, scenery, cable management, cameras. Atomic provided and managed all that, which we hadn’t needed in Vegas; their attention to detail is second to none.”

Branton mounted 24 Sharpys on truss for “Miss America 2014.” “Sharpys are a dramatic little effects light for music and variety programming, particularly for their size and cost,” he says. “They’re a wonderfully fun and dynamic tool. In beam arrays they add spice and energy to the Sharpy Washes.”

He also employed two dozen Sharpy Washes as utility and backlights positioned on truss in the gaps formed by the finger-like arches that created a ceiling over the stage. “Having a light with that much output in that small a physical package came in handy,” he says. “The Sharpy washes provided a nice delicate array of light for 53 women who needed a hairlight from the overhead zone. I’m glad we had them.”

Branton notes that while “the faces of the 53 women competing change” over time, the Miss America pageant is remarkably consistent in its format and goal. “People tune in expecting to see these women in (quite literally) their best light; we never know which ones will be in close up. So we have to make their close-up photography really consistent woman to woman, act to act, show to show, year to year,” he says.

Francesco Romagnoli, Clay Paky Area Manager for North and Latin America, comments, “It’s great to see our lights on such a high profile program with one of the best designers in the business. We’re proud that Mr. Branton loves them so much.”

As a result, players obtain more fluid gameplay thanks to sharper video quality made to improve FPS performance. The unit is equipped with ZeroFlicker technology to allow gamers to practice for longer periods, while Low Blue Light technology manages the exposure of blue spectrum light emitted by computer screens, further contributing to more comfortable viewing. New Projectors That Brighten the Boardroom — Because Business Matters
BYOD-Ready MX600 Projector
The second leading global projector brand in the world will be presenting its brand new business line at CES. BenQ’s units on display will include the compact and lightweight MX600, which uses MHL technology to enable easy tablet, smartphone, and notebook BYOD collaboration. The result is working groups that can transfer any small-screen content from portable devices directly to the projector’s big screen — bringing file sharing and increased interaction to meetings, presentations, and seminars. Equipped with XGA native resolution, 13,000:1 contrast ratio, and Colorific(TM) image quality, the projector delivers accurate, crisp, and long-lasting image quality while casting an amazing one billion colors to the screen. To dramatically lower total cost of ownership (TCO) by extending lamp life and reducing energy consumption — without impacting picture performance — the MX600 projector also features BenQ’s world-leading SmartEco(TM) technology.

P Series Ultra High Brightness Professional Projectors
For professional A/V applications within the corporate setting, BenQ will be showing the company’s new PW9500 large-venue projector. Combining high lumen brightness and flexible installation options, the new PW9500 (WXGA) and PX9600 (XGA) professional projectors offer seven optional optical lens types with advanced functions such as motorized zoom/focus and powered lens shift. The models also provide new brilliant image performance with up to 6,500 lumens of ultra-high brightness, high contrast ratios, and HQV scaling for higher resolutions. With a new interchangeable color wheel system, the series gives integrators the ability to boost mid-tone colors for more life-like picture quality and the flexibility to satisfy specific applications.

New Products That Light Up the Classroom — Because Learning Matters

MW824ST Interactive Projector
Part of BenQ’s growing portfolio of Classroom iQ solutions — a suite of next-generation products designed to future-proof, simplify, and make teaching more collaborative and efficient — the new MW824ST interactive short-throw classroom projector combines power-saving technology with connectivity and performance options to provide next-generation classroom experiences. Equipped with QWrite and PointWrite(TM) capabilities for collective onscreen writing and the ability to collaborate from mobile devices via MHL, the MW824ST creates a more participative process for teachers and students. Also featuring BenQ’s advanced SmartEco(TM) options such as the new LampSave and LumenCare modes, the projector can extend lamp life to an amazing 10,000 hours or provide three years of consistent image brightness.

IL640 Multitouch Display
Also designed to increase interaction within the classroom, BenQ will showcase the IL650 multitouch large-format display at CES. Featuring Omnitapps Multi-Touch Software to bring highly captivating, interactive touchscreen experiences to learning environments, the large double-touch 64-inch screen provides HD resolution, latency-free navigation, and ambient light sensors to adjust screen brightness automatically according to environmental lighting conditions — reducing energy consumption by up to 50 percent without impacting performance. With an ultra-high brightness of up to 1.07 billion colors, PIP / PBP capabilities, and two built-in 12-W speakers, the result is the production of smooth, rich images with no visible color banding for extremely vivid content and quality sound that will captivate, inspire, and stimulate the minds of students.

New P Series Slim Panels to Answer the Most Demanding Video Wall Installations — Because Dependability Matters

BenQ’s P Series of super narrow bezel displays are part of the company’s comprehensive PID (Public Information Display) family, designed to bring unbeatable visual experiences through design, performance, and power-saving features. Unlike consumer-grade monitors, BenQ’s PID screens have been deliberately designed for public venues that demand longer service life, higher dependability, and increased environmental considerations. To satisfy these requirements, BenQ has equipped its P Series with forward-thinking features such as a super narrow bezel design to ensure that content remains the most prominent feature of any video wall installation; a multiple display administrator application that will control up to 98 displays while monitoring system status to prevent power surges; remote management capabilities via LAN controlled connectivity for 24/7 centralized access; color calibration to unify color profiles of all screens within large installations; and ambient light sensors that automatically adjust screen brightness to the lighting condition of the surrounding environment to reduce energy consumption by up to 50 percent.

Accentuating Home or Office Settings With QisDesign LED Lighting — Because Style Matters

Also making their debut at the 2014 International CES are elegant additions to BenQ’s high-end QisDesign lighting product line. Inspired by the world around them, the award-winning LED lamps offer contemporary designs, sensory-rich lighting experiences, and interactive features designed to brighten any home or office environment. Engineered for flexibility, the new Compasso Light allows users to customize the warm white LED light using the lamp’s touch dimmer switch. For further lighting comfort, Compasso’s sliding track along the lamp’s arm lets consumers adjust the lamp to any height or placement preference — even 360 degrees via the unit’s swivel base. With a flexible spine embedded into a rubber lamp shell, the new Hatha Light mimics the bend of the human body, allowing users to freely adjust the lamp to different angles and heights to meet their specific needs. The BE Light, now available in black, is fully foldable and features a unique articulated design, allowing the lamp to be fully extended to a height of 33.4 cm and an angle of up to 135 degrees. When not in use, it can be easily folded flat to a minimum height of 1.8 cm.

Editor’s Note:

Core Brands(R) BlueBOLT(R) SP-1000 SmartPlug Provides Low-Cost Solution for Remote Power Control and Energy Management

Affordable Device Enables Delivery of BlueBOLT Functionality Throughout an Entire Space to Reduce Energy Consumption and Service Calls

PETALUMA, Calif. — Dec. 19, 2013 — After the successful introduction of the BlueBOLT(R) Mobile site, Core Brands(R) today announced that the award-winning SP-1000 SmartPlug is delivering BlueBOLT control to any outlet in the building. Designed to provide low-cost remote power control and energy management capabilities, the device allows integrators to cost-effectively distribute BlueBOLT functionality throughout residential and commercial spaces to lower energy consumption and reduce service calls.

Offering a thin profile of 1.25 inches, the SP-1000 SmartPlug packs energy monitoring, load control and scheduled conservation in a compact form factor that plugs directly into any standard 120V, 15A outlet. Utilizing ZigBee(R) wireless communications, the SP-1000 can be monitored, controlled, programmed and remotely accessed via BlueBOLT’s energy management and control platform via the wired BB-ZB1 gateway.

For integrators, BlueBOLT reduces service calls through remote control of the SP-1000′s two AC outlets from any Internet-enabled device and by automatically rebooting network equipment. In addition, the platform provides real-time and historical power-related data, including energy consumption in kWh and dollars. This data allows installers to categorize and track their clients’ energy usage in residential and commercial settings, and schedule conservation commands to power-down equipment during planned downtime, thereby eliminating wasted power and lowering utility bills.

“The SP-1000 expands our SmartPlug offering with a low-cost option that allows installers to more easily deliver the benefits of the BlueBOLT platform throughout an entire residential or commercial space,” said John Benz, director of power and accessories, Core Brands. “With the SP-1000, AC outlets can be controlled and monitored anytime, from anywhere, using a mobile phone, tablet or computer. Hackenbacker Tackles the Audio for a Classic Tale of Valour

Award-winning facility Hackenbacker has completed the entire audio post production for The Musketeers, a new 10-part BBC Drama Production for BBC One that will make its television debut next year.

Commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, and Danny Cohen, Director of Television, BBC (previously Controller, BBC One), this contemporary take on Alexandre Dumas’ classic tale of The Three Musketeers was created and written by Adrian Hodges.

Hackenbacker’s founder Nigel Heath, who was also re-recording mixer for the series, says: “The Musketeers was pretty much the dream job for us: there were some fantastic opportunities for sound in this series, the stories are brilliant, the show looks amazing and the score by Murray Gold via Air Studios sounds astonishing. All in all, it’s been a fantastic experience. The mixes have run extremely smoothly, which is a testament to the fine work done by our in house sound editors.”

The Musketeers stars Luke Pasqualino (Skins, The Borgias) as D’Artagnan, a skilled fighter from rural Gascony who is on a mission to right the wrong of his father’s death. When he reaches the lawless streets of 17th century Paris he meets Athos, Aramis and Porthos, the Three Musketeers played respectively by Tom Burke (Great Expectations, The Hour), Santiago Cabrera (Merlin, Heroes) and Howard Charles (Royal Shakespeare Company). Although they are primarily Louis X111’s bodyguards, these highly trained soldiers also stand resolutely for social justice, honour, valour and love. To D’Artagnan they are kindred spirits and, despite meeting them in unfortunate circumstances, he soon becomes accepted as part of the group.

The Musketeers also features performances from Peter Capaldi (The Hour, The Thick Of It), Tamla Kari (Cuckoo, The Inbetweeners Movie), Maimie McCoy (Loving Miss Hatto), and Hugo Speer (Bedlam).

The 10-part drama (10×60-minute) is a BBC Drama Production London for BBC One, co-produced with BBC America in association with BBC Worldwide.

Jessica Pope is the BBC executive producer, Adrian Hodges is the creator and executive producer, and Colin Wratten is producer.

Furman and BlueBOLT at ISE 2014

Furman(R) F1500 UPS E Uninterruptible Power Supply
On display at ISE will be the first BlueBOLT(R)-enabled 220-240V Furman(R) product: the F1500 UPS E uninterruptible power supply. Specifically designed for A/V installations within EMEA countries, the battery backup and power conditioning device provides 1500VA of true sine wave battery backup to prevent data loss and allow the orderly shutdown of connected equipment in the event of a power outage.

Featuring Furman’s advanced non-sacrificial SMP surge/spike protection circuit, Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) and Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT), the F1500 UPS E provides professional-level protection, filtration and backup, combined with features engineered specifically for the needs of A/V systems. Ideal for premium A/V systems, installed sound systems, DAW workstations or any electronic device at risk of data corruption or equipment damage in the event of power loss, the F1500 UPS E can be easily expanded via the addition of an optional external battery pack (BATT1500-EXT).

Fully programmable, the unit features built-in RS-232, USB and an intuitive LCD front-panel interface, which displays valuable system and diagnostic information — such as battery time remaining — based on current load and voltage input/output. Critical load management capabilities allow users to prioritize allocations of battery power to connected equipment while the unit’s programmable IR blaster provides safe shutdown of remotely based equipment such as video projectors equipped with bulbs, which can become compromised during power failures.

Using an optional IP card, the F1500 UPS E can be operated via BlueBOLT cloud-based power, energy and network management, enabling access from any Web-enabled device. This allows users to reboot the unit remotely to address a myriad of common system issues. Other advantages include the ability to receive email alerts when power anomalies occur; scheduling commands for power-up, power-down or power-cycling; monitoring of incoming voltage in near-real time or over history; and an auto-reboot functionality to resolve networking equipment lock-ups automatically.

BlueBOLT also offers a variety of features designed to closely monitor energy use and eliminate standby power. Users can program individual components for automatic power on/off at certain times of the day to reduce energy waste, while power consumption statistics — including historical energy consumption in kWh — help them better understand energy usage, patterns and costs. In addition, they can set monthly usage budgets and alerts, and schedule conservation commands to turn off electronics in order to completely eliminate wasted energy via “vampire power” or standby modes.

For integrators, remotely managing devices reduces service calls relating to malfunctioning equipment including satellite boxes, DVRs and other A/V components that tend to lock up. Using the F1500-UPS E, integrators gain time and cost efficiencies and lose the inconvenience of having to send a truck or reach behind equipment manually to reset faulty appliances. By setting up email alerts, integrators can also monitor issues and check in on set-ups before clients even realize that a problem has occurred.

The F1500 UPS E will be available Q1 2014.

Company Quote:
“ISE is going to be an exciting show for Furman, as visitors to our booth will have the opportunity to get hands-on with the first BlueBOLT-enabled product for 220-240V countries: the Furman F1500 UPS E uninterruptible power supply,” said John Benz, director of power and accessories, Core Brands. “The F1500 UPS E is specifically designed to address the power protection, battery backup and power conditioning needs of A/V systems in the EMEA region, preventing loss of valuable data and equipment damage. What truly sets this device apart, however, is its BlueBOLT remote power and energy management functionality. The ISE debut of the F1500 UPS E is a major milestone for Furman, and we look forward to sharing the moment with attendees in Amsterdam.”
