The VIDAA series TV Full HD lineup will be available in March 2014 and features three ultra slim LED models, the 65H7 (65-inch), 55H7 (55-inch) and 50H7 (50-inch).

VIDAA simplifies and enhances a passive, lean-back consumer experience with intuitive channel “jumping” across four content experiences: Live TV, Video On Demand, Media Center, and Applications. Hisense is providing the global consumer electronics community and end-users across the world with the best-balanced coupling of connectivity, functionality and image performance with the VIDAA series. Users can easily navigate content experiences and view them uninterrupted as they slide into view. This new type of user interface was designed to align with the passive nature of the 10-foot, lean back experience, which favors a consumption-friendly experience over complicated interaction.

The VIDAA series will be on display at the Hisense booth 7243 during CES, January 7-10, 2014.

BenQ Releases G-Sync Gaming Monitors

New G-Sync-Enabled XL Series Displays Provide Tear-Free Imaging and RevolutionEyes(TM) Technology for Faster, Smoother Gaming Action

LAS VEGAS, 2014 International CES — Jan. 6, 2014 — BenQ America Corp., a globally renowned LED and gaming monitor expert, today announced the unveiling of two new gaming monitors at this year’s International CES. Featuring NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology, the company’s new XL2420G and XL2720G displays eliminate performance issues related to image tearing, stuttering, and latency — providing gamers with the ultimate in smooth, fast-action play. The monitors come equipped with BenQ’s RevolutionEyes(TM) technology, helping users take a turn for the better by providing the comfort needed for exceptional monitor performance during competitive play.

“Our new line of G-Sync gaming monitors confirms BenQ’s commitment to making the market’s most advanced technologies available to today’s avid gaming community,” said Bob Wudeck, Associate Vice President, Strategy and Business Development for BenQ America Corp. “Equipped with three new gaming modes powered by G-Sync technology, our innovative XL monitors feature seamless graphic card synchronization for the smoothest picture quality possible. The monitors also come pre-loaded with BenQ’s RevolutionEyes technology featuring ZeroFlicker, Black Equalizer, and Low Blue Light capabilities — providing competitive players with the critical performance tools needed for edging out their opponents.”

Based on BenQ’s market-changing XL gaming monitor series, the new XL2420G and XL2720G displays add three new G-Sync gaming modes to further augment the gaming experience: the G-Sync Mode for smooth, low-latency gaming; Low Motion Blur Mode for CRT-like sharpness of moving objects; and a full-featured 3D Vision Mode to create more lifelike on-screen action. By synchronizing the displays’ refresh rate to the graphic cards’ GPU, G-Sync technology eliminates screen tearing for better graphic integrity, minimizes stutter for smoother gaming, and reduces input lag for seamless, low-latency gaming responses. The result is scenes that display instantly, sharper object resolutions, and smoother overall gameplay.

To increase visual comfort, the 24-inch (XL2420G) and 27-inch (XL2720G) displays feature BenQ’s new RevolutionEyes technology. Including ZeroFlicker(TM) capabilities, the monitors eliminate traditional LED flicker issues to support eSports enthusiasts in longer gaming sessions by providing more comfort during competitive action. The RevolutionEyes monitors also feature BenQ’s Black eQualizer, which enables total gaming visibility by allowing players to adjust brightness without over-exposing white levels, revealing critical combat details with improved visibility in darkened areas. The duo also brings an ultra-fast 144Hz refresh rate and GTG response time for faster pixel rates — giving players complete control over their gaming experience.

For even more gaming comfort, the display duo is equipped with Low Blue Light technology. Designed to manage the exposure of blue spectrum light, the monitors help gamers protect their eyes during extended periods by providing several adjustable low blue light levels that automatically adjust emission without affecting picture quality. For setup flexibility, the monitors are fully height-adjustable and feature an intuitive on-screen user interface.

BenQ’s new XL2420G and XL2720G G-Sync monitors are expected to ship in Q1 2014. More information on BenQ’s full line of gaming monitors is available at www.BenQ.us.

DANLEY JERICHO HORNS THROW 600 FEET AT BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY

BOISE, IDAHO – JANUARY 2014: Boise State University is justifiably proud of its Broncos football team, which has only lost four games at home since 1999. In ninety-one other contests, the visitors left Bronco Stadium’s famously blue field in defeat. As the program gained regional and national notoriety, Bronco Stadium grew from 14,500 seats to its current 36,000, but the stadium’s original sound reinforcement system failed to grow with it. When a local beef producer promised money to update the stadium’s similarly outdated scoreboard, the university scrambled to match money so that it could leap forward with a cutting-edge video board and sound reinforcement system. Although the timing was far from ideal, local A/V integration firm Production Services International complemented the scoreboard expertise of Daktronics (Brookings, South Dakota) by designing, installing, and commissioning the new sound reinforcement system in just six short weeks. Danley Sound Labs delivered its high-SPL, high-fidelity, USA-built Jericho Horn loudspeakers, BC subwoofers, and OS-80 weatherproof loudspeakers to meet that tight deadline, and the results are, by all accounts, fantastic.

“The original system was designed for a much smaller stadium, and it was pretty much designed for speech only,” explained Brian Kohagen, the sales and audio engineer with PSI who designed the new sound reinforcement system and oversaw its installation and commissioning. “The Boise State University marketing department was forever asking for a high-energy, full-range sound system that could really pump up the crowd.” Kohagen drew up his original value-engineered design with a different loudspeaker manufacturer, but the 120-day timeline placed some serious challenges in the way. “It all came together so fast, it was hard to find any manufacturer that could deliver,” he said. “I had heard a Danley system at Brigham Young University, so I knew that Danley’s growing reputation for high-SPL, high-fidelity stadium sound systems was well-founded. I spoke with [Danley President] Mike [Hedden], and he assured me that their US-based manufacturing plant could deliver.” And they did.

He continued, “The real challenge at Bronco Stadium is throwing sound from the scoreboard clear across the field and past the other end zone to the opposite seating two-hundred yards away. There is no place for a real distributed system to exist, as there is no roof system at Bronco Stadium. It has to be an end fired single source.” Four Danley J3-64 Jericho Horns, two on each side of the new Daktronics scoreboard, provide the lion’s share of the coverage. Their exceptional pattern control keeps the sonic energy on the fans and prevents it from spilling outside of the stadium – an important achievement given neighbors’ frequent complaints about the old system’s pattern-free leakage. Four Danley OS-80 weatherproof Synergy Horn loudspeakers provide fill for the seating area directly below and in front of the new scoreboard where the Jericho Horns overshoot. “We easily met all of our coverage and SPL requirements,” said Kohagen. “All of the Danley full-range boxes have tremendous clarity, and we were fortunate not to have to rig any fly system. The catwalk in front of the scoreboard gave us perfect aim. All we had to do was make some adjustments left and right and then lock them in place.”

For low end, Hedden recommended a pair of Danley’s new BC-415 subwoofers, which are designed to provide exceptional bass response and exceptional directivity, especially when two units are coupled. Kohagen used them that way, placing both subwoofers just above a pair of the J3-64s. “Wow, does that bottom end throw!” exclaimed Kohagen. “It’s amazing! I can sit two-hundred yards away on the stands behind the opposite end zone, and the bass still shakes the structure. It’s completely full range and sounds fantastic. Everybody that we’ve talked to has been extremely happy with it.”

Kohagen was pleased with his first-time experience working with the people at Danley Sound Labs. “Mike [Hedden] helped me out with the preliminary design,” he said. “In the weeks running up to the installation, I was completely in the loop regarding the manufacturing and shipping schedules. When it came time to commission the system, [Danley Application Engineer] Chad [Edwardson] flew out to help me voice the system. He was extremely knowledgeable and we finished the job in just one day. There were a few challenges as well, and Danley was right on top of them. One of the subwoofer drivers had glue that had not set properly, which I discovered during testing at the shop. I was on the phone with [Danley Chief Engineer] Ivan [Beaver] Sunday before the first game, and we had the replacement on Tuesday.

The most memorable moment was during the system commissioning, when we powered up the subwoofers to see what they could do. “The video board installers had been working all day and prevented a full system test up to this point, so we hadn’t heard the system at full volume,” relates Kohagen, “At 4pm we got the all clear that they were off the structure, and we lit up the low end. About sixty seconds later my phone was ringing, the head football coach was asking how long this was going to take. It turns out, his office is directly below the scoreboard, and the low end coming off the BC 415s was shaking the wall and items on his shelf. One picture actually fell off the wall.” At that point, I knew we had a kickin’ system in place, and the response from the football fans have been nothing but positive.

The Editing Company Leads With Innovation and Technology

Flourishing Houston Audio /Video Production & Post Facility
Uses Middle Atlantic Furniture To Optimize Its Workflow

Houston, TX––Fully recovered and thriving after a flood that devastated the facility two years ago, The Editing Company is now celebrating 34 years of successful growth with well over 30,000 successfully completed projects.

Always an innovator, The Editing Company was the first video production facility in Houston to offer the one-inch video format, digital Betacam, D2 video, and AVID non-linear editing capability. When the facility reopened in a new location after the flood, they upgraded all of their equipment with the latest digital technology and more production rooms to better accommodate their clients.

According to owner Nancy Clinton, The Editing Company now has “three state-of-the-art HD edit suites, each with Final Cut Pro, AVID and Premier software, fully interconnected on a high-speed XSAN storage network. We also have one 30 x 30 foot video production studio, a ProTools audio recording and editing studio, a soundproof room, and a sophisticated central Tape Room that accommodates 12 distinct video formats.”

A multiple ADDY (American Advertising Award) winner also honored with Millimeter magazine’s national Facility Design Award, The Editing Company boasts a repeat client list that includes national retailers (Conn’s) and food chains (Chili’s, McDonald’s), airlines (Southwest), healthcare and hospital systems, universities, energy and financial services companies.

Editor David van Es explains the technical transition that has kept the facility in the forefront of the market. “When the flood happened, we had to rebuild from scratch, starting with the latest digital equipment and going from there. Now we can do anything from ‘mom and pop’ jobs to more complex and demanding high-end corporate video and broadcast projects.

“The equipment makes us expandable. We can fulfill any need at pretty much any price point and give a high-end look to any client that comes in, whether it’s a documentary for International Fund for Africa or someone who wants to edit an iPhone video and output it to YouTube. We also do a lot of promotional videos, and are probably the only facility in Houston that does close captioning in HD. We can also work in about 60 foreign languages.”

As part of the renovation, The Editing Company also opted for Middle Atlantic Products when it came to furniture, racks and power conditioning. As Nancy Clinton explains, “We chose Middle Atlantic custom-designed Edit Center™ furniture for the edit suites that specifically conforms to the size and space required and we’re very happy with how they worked out for us. We also have custom coffee tables in front of the long sofas and client tables behind the sofas with holes cut out for phones and computer laptop drops. Working with Broadcast Technical Services of Houston, Middle Atlantic actually brought the furniture out with their truck to demo it, showed us samples of different wood tones and materials, and we chose exactly what we wanted. It was all manufactured wonderfully and delivered just as ordered.”

Asked if the furniture worked for editing, van Es adds, “Absolutely. As an editor, you want to have everything at your fingertips so having the side tables alongside saves me a lot of time and effort sliding back and forth. You also have that second level riser for the monitors, which gives us more table space to work with.”

Michael Hobart of Broadcast Technical Services summarizes Middle Atlantic’s impact on The Editing Company. “Besides the VRK racks and Edit Center™ consoles, they’re using power conditioning equipment such as the Middle Atlantic UPS 2200R uninterruptible power supply which has worked really well for them since we’ve had it in there. The ease of working with Middle Atlantic and the fact that they would custom-build anything, even parts that weren’t in their system, made everything go so much more smoothly. They never said they couldn’t do anything we needed.

“The infrastructure works like a dream,” Michael concludes. “As it turned out, we were up and running within days and hours after the major installation came in and actually meeting deadlines all along the way.”

New Control Room at Historic Trinity Church Built Around FOR-A Switcher

Cypress, CA – Located in the heart of Wall Street, Trinity Church was the first Anglican church in Manhattan. Founded in 1697, the iconic church has a rich history, including several signers of the Declaration of Independence (Alexander Hamilton is one) being laid to rest in its burial grounds. Aiming to preserve its 17th century roots while using 21st century technology to spread the message ofthe church, Trinity began planning the construction of a new control room early last year. The new control room was completed last month and is centered around a FOR-A 2 M/E HVS-390HS video production switcher.

The switcher first caught the attention of the house of worship’s director of media, production and operations, William Jarrett, at NAB 2013. “The HVS-390HS switcher is a perfect fit for our church,” explained Jarrett. “We appreciate the amount of inputs it offers and its optional video outputs. A frame synchronizer with every channel was also a big draw to us. We found that there’s an elegance about it that inherently made sense. We needed a system that was easy to use, and the flow of the switcher is simple for our operators to understand.”

In addition to using its video technology to perform IMAG (image magnification) production during Trinity’s services, the parish webcasts all of its Sunday morning and weekday services on its website, reaching viewers worldwide. Concerts from its Grammy-nominated choir, conferences, and other special and live events are also webcast. The first major production in the new studio was Handel’s Messiah, a widespread oratorio house of worship Christmas tradition that was first performed in the New World at Trinity Church.

The new control room was commissioned and blessed on December 8. The event was webcast on Trinity’s website, and can be viewed online here. Jarrett estimates that the switcher will be involved in 450-500 events throughout the course of a year.

“In building a new control room, we made a commitment to doing it right and designing a system that’s future resistant,” said Jarrett. “We live in a multi-platform world, and we created our control room and associated workflow with that as a focus. It’s modular in design. Our technology is designed to ease the production process and make it more streamlined, and we have the ability to swap out a piece of equipment without that affecting everything else. Using high-quality technology to convey the mission of Trinity is critical to us, and FOR-A’s switcher is an integral part of our new control room.”

HARMAN’s JBL 3 Series Studio Monitors and AKG Microphones Improve Greater Media NJ’s Statewide Broadcasts

NORTHRIDGE, California – Finalizing a station-wide renovation, Greater Media, Inc.’s New Jersey-market facility WRAT-FM (The RAT) recently installed two pairs of HARMAN’s JBL LSR studio monitors. With a pair of LSR305 studio monitors in a small production room and LSR308 studio monitors in the main production room, the creative department now has a more accurate reference for the commercials, music programs, and promotional announcements they produce. Regional manufacturer’s representative Sigmet Corporation provided the JBL equipment.

“We had what I like to call a ‘snowflake collection’ in our studios in that building – no two pairs of anything were the same,” stated Keith Smeal, Director of Technical Operations, Greater Media New Jersey. “We’re currently working on getting every station on the same platform and the initial installation of the LSR’s has been a very successful starting point. The LSR monitors are a major improvement from our legacy equipment. They produce a nice, crisp and clear high end and remarkably full bottom.”

Leveraging new technology developed for JBL’s flagship M2 Master Reference Monitor, the 3 Series studio monitors feature JBL’s patent-pending Image Control Waveguide, which enables the listener to hear greater depth and ambience in recordings.

An additional pair of LSR305’s is installed in the home studio of the program manager of WJRZ, New Jersey’s Greatest Hits-another Greater Media New Jersey station.

Sigmet also delivered three pairs of JBL Control 5 loudspeakers for portable use during radio station-sponsored events. The loudspeakers’ rugged construction and high-performance capabilities provide a clear sound for event participants, whether Greater Media sets up its portable broadcast station on a boardwalk or in a parking lot for a store opening.

During the renovation, Smeal demoed numerous AKG microphones to help improve the sound of the station. A set of microphones provided by Sigmet consisting of C414s, C214s, 4500 BCs, C3000s and a D12 VR was delivered to the broadcast facility. According to Smeal, the AKG microphones were a hit at the station—a nice in-between solution for the DJs while the renovation continues. “We want to ensure we’re sending out the best sound, whether our listeners are in the car or in front of a hi-fi system,” he said

Smeal has plans to use 60 AKG C414s in his studios for a full microphone upgrade in 2014.

PixelFLEX Introduces New FLEXCurve LED Video Screen

PixelFLEX, the leading provider of flexible and lightweight LED video screens, continues to heighten the industry standard by taking LED screens to another price and performance level with the introduction of FLEXCurve, available in 8mm, 9mm and 12mm.

FLEXCurve allows for simplified set up and a unique design while holding to the same standards as the company’s existing LED video curtain panels, which have exceeded expectations for notable musicians like Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Thompson Square.

Featuring a compact, strong and modular design, made with heavy-duty aluminum and with the added benefit of weighing under 40 pounds, FLEXCurve’s screen can be adjusted from -10 to 10 degree curve, allowing both convex and concave curves. Additionally, PixelFLEX’s newest LED video screen has a rig and click installation system, making for a seamless, fluid connection between panels. Strategic handle placements allow for an easy set up by a single person, eliminating the need for multiple hands to prep before and during a show.

As with PixelFLEX’s existing line of LED video screens, FLEXCurve is simple to operate and set up – videos and images can be sent to the screen using any computer with a DVI-D connection. In addition, the panels can be stored in a single road case to simplify shipping logistics while minimizing transportation costs. These panels ride four to a case and can be stored at any angle within the case.

“Video content is an essential part of live performances,” said Jeremy Byrd, PixelFLEX’s founder and president. “Today, delivering high quality video content is critical to maximizing the audience’s experience. With the introduction of FLEXCurve, we’re changing the conversation about video screens by providing another high-quality product but tweaking it to simplify and satisfy.”

Designed with the touring client in mind, but ideal for permanent installations as well, the slim and sleek cabinet design has fewer cables, reducing failure rate and increasing reliability. FLEXCurve includes a preview mode, permitting RGB preview testing without the need to connect to an external data source. The system allows for front and rear accessibility, enabling single module replacement and improving serviceability, while a hinged backplate provides easy access to the screen’s back panel.

FLEXCurve joins PixelFLEX’s existing line of LED video screen offerings, which range from 6mm to 100mm.
