JVC Announces New XTREME XPLOSIVES Series Headphones That Deliver Hard-Hitting Bass and Distinctive Rugged Styling

LAS VEGAS, January 7, 2014 – JVC today announced a new lineup of XTREME XPLOSIVES series headphones, including white around-ear and on-ear designs, as well as inner ear models. The signature rugged looks and durable construction of the XX series are all present, as are the heavy-duty Neodymium driver units and Extreme Deep Bass Ports that have made the XX series a favorite among music fans who like their bass delivered with a punch.

The popular HA-M55X and HA-S44X are now available in white, in addition to the already available black versions. These headphones assure full range sound quality through the use of extra-large neodymium driver units: 1.57” (40mm) for the on-ear HA-S44X, 1.97” (50mm) for the over-ear HA-M55X. The combination of the large driver units and the Extreme Deep Bass Ports is what gives the headphones their impressive bass performance.

In inner ear models, the new HA-FR301 features a one-button remote and microphone compatible with iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices, as well as a Smart Switch that allows for compatibility with most other smartphones. The inline single-button remote makes it easy to play, stop and skip tracks, as well as answer phone calls. The tiny remote also houses the microphone. The HA-FR301 will be available in March in black or white.

The current HA-FR201 and HA-FX101 inner ear headphones get new packaging and will be available in white in addition to the six colors already offered: black, blue, green, red, purple and pink.

All XX headphones are designed for comfort and excellent sound isolation to keep outside sounds at bay while also preventing audio from leaking and disturbing people nearby. For comfort even during extended listening sessions, the around-ear and on-ear models feature padded headbands and soft ear pads, while inner ear models include silicone earpieces in three sizes.

Tough rubber protectors not only give the XX series headphones their distinctive looks, they also make them highly durable – the perfect sound accessories for active street use.
The cables and plugs are thick and robust and built to last. The HA-M55X-W, HA-S44X-W and HA-FR301 come with a 3.94-foot (1.2m) Y-type cable of Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) for maximum audio fidelity. All models have gold-plated 3.5mm stereo straight plugs.

The white versions of the HA-M55X and HA-S44X are shipping now. The all-new HA-FR301 will be available in March. The updated packaging for the HA-FR201 and HA-FX101 and the white versions of each will also be available in March.

Prices for each are:
HA-M55X Black and White $49.95
HA-S44X Black and White $39.95
HA-FR301 Black and White $39.95
HA-FR201 All Colors $29.95

JVC Announces Rugged, All-Weather Camcorders

LAS VEGAS, January 7, 2014 – JVC injects action into the camcorder market with the introduction of a line of rugged, weather-proof Everio models that allow video to be shot in most any weather and offer opportunities for creating unique videos that can’t easily be captured with a smartphone or traditional camcorder. The new models also feature an internal, long-life battery – 4.5 hours on a single charge – for even more versatility.

The two new JVC Everio camcorders, the GZ-R70 and GZ-R10, feature JVC’s Quad-Proof structure – water resistance to a depth of 5m/16.4ft, the ability to withstand a drop from 1.5m/4.9ft, as well as dust-proof and freeze-proof down to –10˚C/14˚F – packaged in a familiar camcorder form factor.

The new line offers a combination of performance capabilities and innovative features for those who want to take their videos beyond what a smartphone or other camcorders can deliver. In addition to their weather- and shock-proof attributes, JVC’s new Everio camcorders feature a 40x optical zoom, 2.5 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, audio that zooms with the picture, and compatibility with third-party editing software, including iMovie and Final Cut Pro X.

The new Everio line’s Quad-Poof technologies were first offered in JVC’s ADIXXION action cameras, designed for shooting point-of-view action video. Bringing the technology to the Everio series means that all kinds of videos can be created under a wide range of weather conditions. There’s even the “oops-proof” factor – no need to worry if the camcorder is accidently dropped onto the ground or even into a pool. Contributing to the camcorders’ IPX8 certified water resistance and IP5X dust resistance is the internal high-capacity battery, which eliminates the risk of damaging the camera while changing batteries in bad weather. Moreover, Everio is compatible with third-party portable batteries (the type used with smartphones for emergency charging). Video can be shot while charging to go beyond the internal battery’s 4.5 hours, or Quick Charge for one hour and add an extra 1.3 hours of recording time if the portable battery current is over 1.0A.

The definitive advantage that Everio camcorders offer over smartphones is quality optics. Everio is equipped with a large-caliber KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS with high-quality 40x Optical Zoom. With 60x Dynamic Zoom, the 2.5M Back-illuminated CMOS Image Sensor maintains the picture’s HD resolution even when exceeding the optical zoom range. And the JVC FALCONBRID engine provides efficient video and audio processing to deliver beautiful images and sound. Adding to audio quality is JVC K2 Technology applied during recording for effective sound restoration during playback. Outdoors, gusts of wind won’t spoil the soundtrack thanks to an original algorithm that effectively attenuates wind noise picked up at the mic.

The two new JVC Everio camcorders are differentiated by internal memory capacity, a built-in LED light is included in the GZ-R70, and the GZ-R10 is available in black, blue and red. They will be available at the following prices:

GZ-R70: $499.95 (Available April 2014)
GZ-R10: $399.95 (Available March 2014)

Funky Junk Takes On UK Distribution For Sandhill Audio

Funky Junk, Europe’s leading supplier of new and refurbished professional recording equipment and services, has been appointed exclusive UK distributor by Finnish microphone manufacturer Sandhill Audio.

Established in 2008 by sound engineers Riku Pasanen, Petteri Taponen and Sammy Roiha, Sandhill Audio launched its first product in 2011 – the 6011A ribbon microphone.

“We’re continuously working on new designs and prototypes and eventually the range will grow,” says co-founder Petteri Taponen. “However, any product we release has to justify its existence. We will not put out anything just to have more items in the catalogue.”

Taponen adds that Funky Junk was chosen to handle Sandhill’s UK distribution because it has a strong reputation for handling innovative pro audio products.

“Funky Junk’s catalogue is exceptional and, being a high-end studio microphone, the Sandhill 6011A fitted nicely into their product range,” Taponen says. “I was also really impressed with Mark Thomson (Funky Junk’s Managing Director), who sent me a long email in response to my initial enquiry even though he was on holiday in Italy at the time. His straightforward way of communicating suited our approach to doing business and it also helped that the company came highly recommended by a number of our contacts.”

Sandhill Audio’s 6011A Ribbon Microphone is designed to sound exceptional while being free of the usual limitations of ribbon microphone technology. Although primarily designed for high end studio applications, the microphone is sufficiently versatile that it can also be used in live environments.

Mark Thompson, Managing Director of Funky Junk, adds: “The guys at Sandhill have achieved the seemingly impossible; they’ve designed a microphone that retains the airy warmth of the best ribbon mics with a rugged construction capable of coping with a kick drum, a jumbo jet or a producer screaming at a tape op. The Sandhill 6011A isn’t cheap, but great performances demand great microphones. We carry demo stock for discerning tests.”

Clay Paky Sharpys, Sharpy Washes and grandMA Spend Thanksgiving with Lady Gaga and The Muppets for ABC Holiday Special

What’s Thanksgiving without The Muppets? Or Lady Gaga? Or all of them appearing together in ABC’s “Lady Gaga & The Muppets Holiday Spectacular” with guests Sir Elton John, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ru Paul. It was definitely an occasion to roll out Clay Paky Sharpys and Sharpy Washes controlled by a grandMA2 console. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor of both product lines in North America.

Lighting designer Tom Beck got a call for the show the Monday before the Friday load in as Lady Gaga was finishing her latest album and time was running short.

“I really wanted to use Sharpys and Sharpy Washes,” says Beck who grabbed 20 of the former and 23 of the latter from the inventory of ELS. “It was the first time I had the chance to use the Washes, which I really love. I wouldn’t mind trying a whole rig of just Sharpy units.”

The set designed by Tom Lenz featured “a lot of curves and arches – it was beautiful,” Beck reports. “I put up an arched truss with half a 60-foot radius and lined it with alternating Sharpy Washes and beams, mostly for effects and as a backdrop to the whole set. It looked really spectacular. We also had some more Sharpy fixtures on the floor. I was quite happy with all of them. I love the beams and the Washes were terrific – a great little unit.”

Programmer Mark Butts had used the Sharpy Washes on several projects but this was his first for television. “I was curious about how they were going to work, and they turned out to be really awesome. The Washes get almost as narrow as the Sharpy beams but have color mixing and zoom so you can use them as a wash light. They’re really fast and do all the stuff that Sharpy is known for. We also had a fairly low trim in the TV studio, so the lights worked well in that situation – they were compact and bright, a real winner!”

According to Beck, the grandMA2 is the only console he uses anymore. He likes the system for big shows, like the holiday spectacular, and when two programmers work in tandem because grandMA2 networking “works delightfully.”

Butts found the grandMA2 especially handy for the Muppets and Lady Gaga show whose tight turnaround meant he had little time to prepare. “The shooting schedule was really compressed. The last two hours we were there they were performing off the cuff, and I got about 30 seconds notice. I just started diving in to create effects and cues completely on the fly. grandMA2 does that really well. It has great effects and great movement and quickly came up with stuff I was really happy with.”

Butts notes that there’s nothing like spending holidays with The Muppets. “I grew up with them, so it’s the coolest thing in the world to do something with them. I spent the morning doing pick ups with Animal! It was such a fun show to work on – a real special experience.”
