DPA Microphones Makes Some Noise at the 2014 NAMM Show

Company to feature its latest “d:” branded mic offerings and host performances by SHEL

ANAHEIM, JANUARY 8, 2014 – Folk pop band SHEL will once again be the headlining act for DPA Microphones at the 2014 NAMM Show (Booth 7119). Longtime fans of the company, SHEL is made up of four sisters (Sarah, Hannah, Eva and Liza Holbrook) who will perform using DPA’s d:vote™ 4099 Instrument Mics and d:facto™ II Vocal Microphones equipped with a variety of adapters. Additionally, the company is announcing a full product “d:” branding, which includes the absorption of the current 4060, 4071, 4080 and 4090 Miniature Mics into the d:screet™ Miniature Microphones group and the addition of the ever-popular 4066 and 4088 Miniature Headsets to the d:fine™ Headset Microphone category.

In addition to watching full performances from the group, attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear the true quality of the mics employed in SHEL’s setup at personal listening stations located throughout the DPA Microphones booth. Hailing from the artistic community of Fort Collins, Colorado, these classically trained musicians blend classical music with pop elements for an eccentric sound that is youthful and upbeat, yet highly emotive.

Announced at DPA Microphones’ recent Partner Conference, the unveiling of the new d:screet Miniature Microphone name is another step in the company’s plans for full “d:” branding. With the company’s 4080 Miniature Cardioid Lavalier, 4060 Miniature Omni-series and 4090/91 Recording/Measuring Microphones and the new 4098 Podium Microphones now part of the d:screet line, customers have the ultimate set of solutions.

“A few years ago, we decided to change the names of our new products to make them more recognizable and easy to remember,” says Christian Poulsen, CEO of DPA Microphones. “In the past, our products were branded with numbers, which were difficult to understand and remember unless you were a DPA aficionado. We wanted names that were more meaningful and more interesting, so we found words starting with the letter ‘d’ that fit the significance to the ‘d:’ (colon) branding. Starting product lines with a ‘d’ makes it easier for fans to remember what they are using as it connects the mics to the DPA name. We also felt that leaving out the second letter gave it a graphic element that worked well with our new DPA design.”
Created for use with wireless systems in theater, television and close-miked instrument applications, the d:screet 4060 omni capsule is highly unobtrusive, which lends itself to an exceedingly accurate omnidirectional pattern, while the d:screet 4080 cardioid is acoustically pre-equalized and well suited for broadcast, conference and other live performances in the studio or in the field. The DPA d:screet 4090 is a high-quality omnidirectional condenser microphone with a uniquely natural and open sound, that is suitable for instrument miking applications in the studio, on stage or for system alignment.
Also on display is the company’s d:dicate Recording Microphone line, which combines the company’s best new and existing capsules and preamplifiers to deliver superior sound across many applications where the microphones have not been widely used before, such as live sound applications for touring and installation purposes. Included in the range are the new modular MMC4018 Supercardioid Capsule and the well-known MMC4007 High-SPL Omnidirectional Capsule, now re-launched for modular use.

Rounding out the d:dicate line are microphones from the familiar and well-loved DPA former Reference Standard series, including the modular 4000 and 2000 Series. All of the d:dicate capsules can be combined with the company’s state-of-the-art preamps, including the A, which is a Class A transformerless design; the B, a low cut and high boost filter version; the compact C option for visual unobtrusive miking; and the new modular active MMP-E cable for hanging or table applications. An MMP-F modular boom pole is available for podium or floor stand use of the d:dicate capsules.

In addition to the 4066 and 4088 Headset Microphones, which are available as both classic and d:fine options, users will have a chance to check out the d:facto II Vocal Microphone and d:vote 4099 Instrument Microphones.

Atlona(R) Now Shipping New AT-PS-POCC Mid-Span Power Supply

New Accessory Uses Power Over Category Cable to Simplify Installations and Remove Requirement for Power Sources at Both Transmitter and Receiver

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Jan. 7, 2014 — Atlona(R), a leading AV distribution solutions provider, today announced that the company is now shipping its new AT-PS-POCC mid-span power supply. Designed to power PoCc-compatible HDBaseT transmitters and/or receivers without requiring the related Atlona power source device, the AT-PS-POCC can send power to a compatible transmitter, receiver, or both using the same category cable as the HDBaseT signal.

The AT-PS-POCC is a 24V DC bi-directional power supply ideal for any AV environment in which neither the transmitters nor receivers can receive power from a powered transmitter or switch. The system is also useful in installations that would be unduly cluttered with additional power supply wiring. A switch allows the AT-PS-POCC to provide power between the transmitter and receiver, in either direction or both directions simultaneously, and a single power supply can power multiple AT-PS-POCC devices. The elegant solution can be used to enable and disable PoCc devices for easy power routing, and its captive screw design ensures a secure and reliable connection.

In a typical installation, the AT-PS-POCC could connect Atlona’s AT-HDVS-TX-WP transmitters/switchers with RSNET, IR, and PRO3 receivers or HDBaseT displays (such as those from Epson or Panasonic). The power supply also supports RSNET, IR, and PRO3 PoCc receivers with PRO2 switchers and RSNET, IR, and PRO3 PoCc receivers from HDBaseT AVRs (such as Pioneer).

To ensure the delivery of the highest quality signals to transmitters and receivers, the AT-PS-POCC fully supports pass-through of resolutions up to 4K x 2K or 1920 x 1200 as well as full 3D pass-through. Supporting PoCc-powered transmitters or receivers as well as non-PoCc power source equipment, the device also supports lossy and lossless multichannel audio formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

“In the past, integrators using both PoCc- and non-PoCc-compatible products in an installation would have to run power supplies at both the transmitter and receiver,” said Bill Schripsema, Atlona commercial product manager. “Atlona’s AT-PS-POCC mid-span power supply eliminates that need and ensures that PoCc-compatible HDBaseT transmitters and/or receivers are compatible with a variety of devices that don’t provide PoCc power.”

Additional details and technical specifications for the AT-PS-POCC can be found at www.atlona.com/PS-POCC.

LAS VEGAS, JANUARY 8, 2014 — Cerwin-Vega!, a Gibson Brand, is pleased to announce the expansion of its popular XD Desktop Speaker Series at CES 2014 (Gibson Tent, CP1/Central Plaza). Joining the company’s existing XD3 Powered Desktop Speaker are the four-inch XD4 and five-inch XD5 full range systems and an eight-inch XD8 powered subwoofer. In the tradition of Cerwin-Vega! products, key design elements of the series include optimized frequency response, overall clarity, low distortion and the company’s trademark bass performance.

Each XD Series member is matched with low distortion, high output amplifiers and soft-dome tweeters for the best possible sound. Equipped with metal covers, the XD3 and XD4 feature 3/4-inch tweeters while the XD5 utilizes a one-inch tweeter. The XD8 sub offers deep bass extension, allowing each system to go to a new level of performance. Unlike other desktop speaker systems, the Cerwin-Vega! XD Series is built with solid MDF wood enclosures, allowing it to deliver the same quality of sound as home speaker systems.

“When setting out to create the Cerwin-Vega! XD Series, our engineers made it their goal to deliver optimal sound reproduction in a compact system,” says Gus Jursch, Director of Operations for Gibson Pro Audio. “Since versatility is the ultimate sign of a great desktop speaker, our designers also worked to ensure that the entire XD Series fully integrates with existing desktop equipment such as audio interfaces, audio mixers or DJ gear.”

The Cerwin-Vega! XD Series speakers are equipped with several front and rear inputs, including an 1/8-inch TRS, RCA pair and 1/4-inch TRS pair inputs, as well as a front panel 1/8-inch TRS headphone jack. Additionally, the speakers feature an optimally designed bass port for proper low frequency phase alignment and minimal turbulence. Also included is Cerwin-Vega!’s signature Vega-Bass Boost Switch, which enables an enhanced bass EQ.

The efficient XD8 Subwoofer offers an extended bass response, high SPL and an optimally designed port for proper low frequency phase alignment and minimal turbulence. In addition to the standard audio input and outputs, a volume knob, crossover switch and polarity switch can be found at the rear of the sub for aligning its audio to the desktop monitors. A System Remote connection port is also on the sub for use with the included XD8 Remote Control, which allows for easy volume control of the entire system. Featuring a Volume knob and Mute/Bypass switch, it is also outfitted with an audio input jack.

“We intend to change the face of Barix from a box manufacturer to an IP solutions provider,” said Haller-Rietschel, who previously oversaw marketing operations in the role of company president. “Barix has been in the audio over IP market for 10 years, and the market has matured significantly. We are refreshing our strategy to more effectively adapt to changing customer needs across the markets we serve.”

Behan’s Pub Raises The Bar With Martin Audio

Bronx, NY––Located on Katonah Avenue that runs through the heart of Woodlawn’s Irish section, Behan’s Public House is a popular stopover in the neighborhood.

During the day, older patrons stop by for drinks and soccer watching before Behan’s turns into a nighttime dance club with DJs that appeals to a much younger crowd with music that can he heard a block away.

Following a fire this summer, the pub was totally renovated with a new bar, furnishings, millwork and a Martin Audio loudspeaker system installed by New York City’s Foundation Audio.

Asked why he chose Martin Audio, Foundation owner Justin Shafran said, “When considering the speaker system for Behan’s Pub, I wanted to use a product that would ensure the customer would be extremely happy in terms of performance and value.

“Because the venue functions as a local bar and nightclub,” Justin continued, “I had to spec a system with exceptional clarity for the bar that could also provide the SPLs and low end required for dance music. This project was the first time we used Martin Audio. The other speaker brands I had been using were OK, but always sounded a bit muffled. I had heard good things about Martin Audio so I figured I would give them a try.

“We installed eight Martin Audio AQ28’s and four AQ212 subs at strategic locations throughout Behan’s,” adds Shafran. “The sound is so clear and the system has the power we needed while the sound remains undistorted and clean even at the upper limits of the system when it’s used for the nightclub.

“Finally, I was very happy with the response of Martin Audio because this project was very fast track from the start. Knowing a company stands behind their product is very important for me and they really went the extra mile to ensure we would meet our deadline. I’m now specifying Martin Audio on several new projects.”

Bose® RoomMatch® Loudspeakers And PowerMatch® Amplifiers Tame the Acoustics of the Rondileau Campus Center Auditorium at Bridgewater State University

Bose® RoomMatch® loudspeakers are able to work around the venue’s existing acoustical intricacies, turning previously troublesome areas like the balcony into prime listening seats

Framingham, Massachusetts, January 2, 2014 – The Rondileau Campus Center Auditorium at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, has been part of campus life since it was built in 1970. Named for retiring president Adrian Rondileau, the center boasts several ballrooms and conference rooms, a large cafeteria, several common areas, an open access computer lab and a small dining room. It also houses offices for the Center for Multicultural and International Affairs, the Student Government Association and Visitor Information. But the heart of this multi-use building is its 1,300-seat auditorium, which is used for concerts and theatrical presentations. The auditorium’s sound system was in need of an upgrade, and the university put out a request-for-proposal. The system chosen to take the auditorium into the future included RoomMatch® loudspeakers and PowerMatch® amplifiers from Bose® Professional Systems.

Designed and installed by Sudbury, Massachusetts-based Adtech Systems, the system is configured in a single central array consisting of one RM9005 loudspeaker, two RM9010’s, two RM9020’s and one RM12040; a pair of RMS215 subwoofers; and four LT 9403 full-range 3-way loudspeakers used as fills. These are powered by three PM8500N PowerMatch® amplifiers. The system is controlled by a Bose ControlSpace® ESP-88 DSP.

When Adtech Systems was being considered for the project, Charles Crane, Sales Engineer with Adtech, saw that the school had already specified two other brands of loudspeakers. “They weren’t aware of the Bose Professional products,” he realized. As part of his bid process, Crane brought in the Bose Modeler® sound system software. He used it to draw all the seating areas within the auditorium and predict the sound coverage. This showed the customer that the design would thoroughly cover the floor and balcony seating areas, but it also revealed that the array would have to be hoisted higher than expected to address the existing acoustical clouds in place in the venue – something that could only have been accurately determined by computer modeling, since the clouds were not precisely represented on the auditorium’s blueprints.

“As it turns out, we were the only one of the three vendors who provided the schools with a proposal that was validated by computer modeling,” says Crane. “When they saw how Bose was able to provide a complete package, from modeling and speakers to DSP and amplification, they ‘got it’ – they saw that this was the full-featured solution that they really needed. The room has a lot of reverberation and peculiar reflections, and the Modeler design was able to identify them. Then, the combination of RoomMatch loudspeakers, PowerMatch amplifiers and ControlSpace ESP-88 were able to properly address those issues. And they worked like a charm – the customer told us that the balcony went from being the worst seats in the house to some of the best. Bose really helped turn this venue around.”
