Audinate Enhances Dante Controller 3.5 with New Advanced Capabilities

Portland, OR January 23, 2014- Audinate, the inventors of Dante, have released Dante Controller version 3.5, a updated release of their free networking management configuration and monitoring application. Several powerful new features have been added providing advanced real-time network monitoring functionality, including multicast bandwidth usage, clock health monitoring and latency management statistical information. These enhancements enable you to quickly identify and fix potential issues on the network, while preserving Dante Controller’s hallmark ease-of-use characteristics.

Dante has become the defacto standard and dominant networking technology in the professional audio industry. Built on existing networking protocols and standards, Audinate’s Dante is a plug-and-play networking solution which delivers ultra-low latency and tightly synchronized media, while simplifying installation and configuration of digital media networks. Dante is the most interoperable digital media networking solution available and has become the most specified technology by system designers, installation contractors and end-users.

“Many of the new features in Dante Controller 3.5 were implemented to directly meet specific customer requirements”, says Gary Southwell, VP of Product Management at Audinate. Southwell adds, “Dante has rapidly become the market leader and the dominant media networking solution for audio networking. Dante Controller 3.5 includes many features that AV and IT professionals could only dream of a few short years ago.”

What’s New in Dante Controller 3.5

Significantly Enhanced Latency Reporting
•New histogram-based reporting and tracking of transmitter latencies – provides at-a-glance information about the latency performance of audio flows for supported devices.
•Latency histograms indicate if latency play-out settings are properly configured, and also provide an overall view of the health of the network.
•This feature helps solve one of the biggest challenges in the industry: It allows an operator to quickly see if an audio flow has been properly configured, and also indicates if underlying network issues could potentially develop into an audio quality problem.

Improved Clock Health Monitoring
•Clock health is now tracked on a per-device basis via dedicated performance histograms. This enables the quick and easy detection of difficult-to-diagnose network issues which are impacting clock accuracy – such as clock traffic bottlenecks, and low-performance external word clocks.

New Preset Tool Suite
•New preset system exposes XML-based network configuration presets for use in off-line configuration tools. This simplifies the setting up of new networks, and the reconfiguration of existing networks. Ideal for integrators, and large multi-use end-user networks.
•Presets are further enhanced to enable simpler switching between standard configurations and special event configurations. Provides greater confidence in the ability to share audio network configurations for multiple uses and/or user groups.

Redundant Network Connection
•Enables visibility of primary and secondary networks at all times. Redundant devices can still be seen and managed via the secondary network in the event of a problem with primary network connectivity.
•Simplifies redundant network set-up, and allows the operator to easily verify that both networks are properly configured.
•Provides real-time notifications about connectivity status on both primary and secondary networks.

New Channel Grouping Capability
•Allows simple viewing and configuring of large numbers of device channels, in groups of 16.
•Each group can be expanded then collapsed when set-up is complete.

Improved Network and Device Status Information
•Network and device information has been enhanced and restructured across two tabs (including a new Network Status tab) to provide a clearer and more useful overall picture of the network.
•New notification icons provide up-front, real-time information about a range of network and device events.

Furman Celebrates 40th Anniversary at 2014 NAMM Show

Innovation and Expertise Keep Company Ahead of the Curve

PETALUMA, Calif. — Jan. 23, 2014 — At the 2014 NAMM Show, Core Brands(R) marks the 40th anniversary of its Furman brand of power management solutions. Founded in 1974, Furman continues to lead two major markets — professional A/V signal processors, AC power conditioning and distribution — and is now delivering energy management solutions featuring the BlueBOLT(R) cloud-based platform.

“Our long history of engineering power products has provided us with a rich knowledge base and legacy to continue our tradition of innovating and building better products year in, year out,” said John Benz, director of power and accessories, Core Brands. “It’s challenging to maintain market leadership for as long as we have. We owe our success to our focus on listening to and understanding our customers’ needs, and then applying our expertise to develop products that meet their requirements even in the most demanding applications.”

Originally founded primarily as a manufacturer of line signal processing products, Furman captured the industry spotlight a few years later with its state-of-the-art power products — and the company has dominated the power management market ever since. Furman was acquired by Panamax, LLC in 2007 and is now part of Core Brands, LLC.

“The world has changed immensely in 40 years, and our products have never been more relevant than they are today — especially as companies and individuals become more connected and reliant on electronic systems to help them work, play, communicate and live,” said Benz. “As electronics become more mission-critical than ever, keeping systems healthy is not just about power. We’re committed to delivering a solid foundation of power, energy and network management that creates a reliable infrastructure for our customers. We are grateful to our loyal customers for trusting Furman over the past 40 years, and we’re looking forward to what the future has in store.”

Furthering Furman’s legacy and in conjunction with the 40th anniversary, the brand will debut three new power conditioning products at this year’s NAMM Show — the M-8S and PS-8R E III Power Conditioner and Sequencer models and the P-8 PRO C Classic Series Power Conditioner.

Antelope Audio’s Orion32 Helps International DJ/Producer Dusty Kid Usher In the Next Chapter of Electronic Music Creation

Orion32 Serves as Kid’s ‘Digital Hub,’ Providing Unmatched Flexibility and Audio Quality in Routing Hardware and Software Virtual Instruments

Anaheim, CA, January 23, 2014: Antelope Audio [Booth 7118 - Arena] counts international DJ/producer phenomenon Dusty Kid (a/k/a Paolo Alberto Lodde) among its fans. A dedicated electronic music artist since age 12, Dusty Kid is very much in demand among the international DJ circuit, having toured relentlessly for the last seven years. In the studio, the Orion32 has helped Dusty Kid realize his dream of realizing the ultimate ‘modular studio,’ enabling him to seamlessly connect the hardware and software devices he needs for unmatched flexibility and audio quality. We spoke to Dusty, who was born to make music [indeed, he claims his first word was 'vinyl] just before the 2014 NAMM Show to find out how the Orion32 fits into his music creation scheme.

How is being a DJ now different from being one say, ten years ago?
Well, I am not a DJ even though what I do in clubs reflects more or less what a DJ does. But I can tell you that ten years ago being a good DJ was certainly about playing vinyl, having good technique and traveling just about anywhere to get the chance to buy records other people were not able to find. Today, it is quite different as most people use computers to match tempos of digital files and basically anyone can find just about any music on the Internet!

Tell us about where the Orion32 fits into your studio
I use a Mac Pro running Ableton Live. I also use a UAD card with all the available plugins. The rest of my set up is basically hardware. All my synthesizers, vintage mixers, reel-to-reel machines and effect boxes are all connected to the Orion32 so I use it like a sort of ‘digital patch bay.’ Using it this way, I can plug anything to anything with a simple click. So the Orion32 has enabled me to create this big modular set up — this makes everything very interesting, fun and also more experimental. The best thing is that using both Ableton Live and Orion32, I can instantly create very complex chains of machines!

What was your initial draw to the Orion32?
I wanted to see if everything I read about the Orion32 was true, which described a beautifully designed and simple to use interface with multiple I/Os based on USB technology — all in a single rack space and for under $3,000. It was almost too good to be true. My fear was that such a product would be unstable and have poor drivers, but when I got the chance to try it I was pleasantly surprised.

What was your experience with other interfaces before finding Antelope?
I used a big name competitor for three years or so, and I had so many troubles. Besides the limited number of I/O that never seemed to be enough, I found that I had to adapt my work flow with a patch bay. Also the drivers in my last unit were incredibly unstable and I experienced problems with sync, latency and even worse, clicks and pops during recordings. The Orion32 solved all these problems while giving me the opportunity to work 100% inside Ableton Live without having to disconnect or repatch cables. Since using the Orion32, I have never experience problems with drivers and the clocking has been perfect. Since my studio contains so much hardware and digital devices, keeping the clocking perfectly aligned can be problematic.

What do you appreciate most about the Orion32?
Well, with 32 ins and 32 outs, the Orion really does everything for you if you don’t need to mix out of the box — and its price / performance ratio is just ridiculous. I have been using the Orion32 for several months now and everything is working flawlessly. Currently, I only use the Orion32 in the studio, but now I am thinking about how useful it could be in a live performance environment if I decide to include external synths and effects. It would be very easy to set up since I would not require a large mixing console to get all the hardware properly connected.
