New Zero Percent Financing Program on FUJINON Cabrio Zooms

Wayne, N.J. – FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Optical Devices Division, is conducting a Zero Percent Financing program on purchases of its Premier PL ZK Series of Cabrio lenses. Beginning today through March 31st, 2014, any new purchases of a Premier PL19-90mm Cabrio (ZK4.7×19), PL 85-300mm Cabrio (ZK3.5x85B) or PL 14-35mm Cabrio wide-angle zoom (ZK2.5×14) are eligible for the company’s Zero Percent Financing for 24-month program. The program is currently open to U.S. and Canadian customers only.

“We’re starting this program as a service to our customers,” said Thom Calabro, Director, Marketing and Product Development, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, wide-angle lens Optical Devices Division. “A financing program like this makes it easier for more of our customers to own a Cabrio and opens up a larger potential user base among rental houses, DPs, production companies, and all kinds of cine and video professionals looking to own the most versatile, highest quality, and lightest zooms in industry.”

FUJINON’s PL 14-35mm lens is the latest development in the company’s popular Cabrio series, which includes the recently introduced Premier PL 85-300 mm, as well as the established PL 19-90. Introduced at IBC in mid-September last year, the 14-35mm Cabrio is lightweight, easy to use with today’s 4K cameras, and is a fast T2.9 with 200-degree focus rotation. It’s ideal for shooters looking for a lightweight zoom that can be used as a handheld. It has a detachable digital servo drive and can be used as a self-contained ENG-style lens or as a cine style lens.

The PL 14-35 lens offers exceptional optical performance in the center of the image and in the corners of the frame. The digital servo’s 16-bit encoding assures operators that all lens meta data output—including the position of the zoom, iris, and focus—is extremely accurate. The PL 14-35 lens supports Lens Data System (LDS) and /i metadata formats, All Cabrio lenses can be controlled using cinema industry standard accessories, wireless controllers, as well as existing FUJINON wired and wireless units.

The high-performance FUJINON PL 85-300 Cabrio zoom lens was designed using the latest optical simulation technology, offering exceptional optical performance in both the center of the image and in the corners of the frame. The PL 85-300’s longer lens makes it ideal for professional cinematographers and videographers. The PL 85-300 is similar in weight and size to the other Cabrio lenses, and starts at a fast T2.9

The lightweight and compact PL 19-90 Cabrio weighs only 2.85kg including servo motors, this lens has the longest focal range available in a light weight zoom . Cinematographers will be right at home with these lenses. With the detachable drive removed, the lens is set to accept industry standard cine motors and matte boxes. Plus, the lens has all the data output that appeals to a Cine-style shooter.

To take advantage of this new Zero Percent Financing option on FUJINON Cabrios, customers can contact their local FUJIFILM Optical Devices Division sales representative.

InfoComm International Teams With AMX Europe to Train 75 AV Networking Pros

Nine Discounted Sessions of InfoComm’s Networked AV Systems Class to be offered

InfoComm International is collaborating with AMX Europe to provide networked audiovisual systems training to AV professionals. At least 75 students will be able to take InfoComm’s highly regarded Networked AV Systems class at a discounted rate in Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom, dramatically raising the number of trained professionals in the region.

The three-day classes will be offered nine times in AMX Training Centres, and will cost €400/£350+VAT for members, €800/£650+VAT, for non-members.

“The AV world has evolved and if you lack knowledge of IT networks you are creating obstacles to your success,” said David Labuskes, CTS, RCDD, Executive Director and CEO, InfoComm International. “AV systems increasingly use enterprise IP networks — the same networks that already carry mission-critical voice, data and other information. These networks were never designed with real-time delivery of audiovisual content in mind. Without an in-depth understanding of IP networks and the way AV applications operate within them, customer expectations may not be met. And improperly configured AV devices can create catastrophic network problems. InfoComm thanks AMX for their strong commitment to this program and industry quality.”

”AV and IT convergence is moving ever closer and a lack of Networking and IT knowledge can be a major stumbling block to achieving successful AV installations today,” added Graeme Scott, European Training Manager, AMX Europe. “AMX is committed to empowering its customers with information and training that will keep them ahead of the game. We are delighted to be collaborating with InfoComm to deliver the Networked AV Systems training across Europe. InfoComm believes in promoting knowledge and quality throughout the industry; beliefs that AMX also holds very dear.”

The Networked AV Systems course is built around real-world applications that clients want today, and the way AV and IT technologies must be coordinated to create the best experience. The course follows the process of matching AV and networking technologies to customer needs for digital signage, conferencing, remote monitoring and management, and networked AV security. It goes through the planning for three fictional companies, each with its unique requirements.

Students will learn how to glean customer needs, manage trade-offs between quality and bandwidth, and work through the sometimes conflicting needs of customers and network managers. In the end, through better coordination among clients, IT professionals, and AV designers, network-based AV systems can deliver the kind of communication experience that benefits everyone.

Because many will need more basic education before endeavoring into Networked AV Systems, InfoComm’s Networking Technology Online class, which conveys foundational knowledge, will be a perquisite for enrollment. AMX is generously covering the cost of this class for all who enroll in the Networked AV Systems sessions at their centers. Classes will be offered as follows: 3 – 5 March, London; 6 – 8 March, Netherlands; 10 – 12 March, Sweden; 21 – 23 July, London or York; 24 – 26 July, Belgium; 28 – 30 July, Paris; 13 – 15 October, London; 16 – 18 October, TBD; and 20 – 22 October, Germany.

To register visit InfoComm’s online store at infocomm.org. For direct assistance with UK classes contact InfoComm UK Account Manager Ben Barnard at bbarnard@infocomm.org. For questions about European classes outside of the UK, contact InfoComm Regional Director Godwin Demicoli at gdemicoli@infocomm.org.

Sennheiser Digital 9000 Wireless System and HDVD 800 Amplifier Receive Outstanding Technical Achievement Award at 29th Annual TEC Awards

Sennheiser Products Are Recognized During 2014 NAMM Show as Best in Class in Wireless Technology and Amplification Hardware/Studio & Sound Reinforcement Categories

ANAHEIM, CA, January 27, 2014: Audio specialist Sennheiser announced that its Digital 9000 wireless system and HDVD 800 amplifier were both recognized with Outstanding Technical Achievement awards by the TEC (Technical Excellence & Creativity) Foundation. Sennheiser USA president Greg Beebe was on hand to accept the awards during a reception held at the 2014 NAMM show in Anaheim, CA on Friday evening.

Sennheiser’s Digital 9000 Wireless System, which took over a decade to develop, is the most advanced professional wireless system in the world and supports professionals across broadcast studios, theaters, and live performances. The HDVD 800 Headphone Amp/DAC meanwhile allows for optimal performance when paired with any Sennheiser audiophile headphones.

“On behalf of the entire Sennheiser team, I want to express my gratitude to the TEC Foundation for recognizing the Digital 9000 and the HDVD 800 with Outstanding Achievement awards,” said Greg Beebe. “At Sennheiser, we are committed to the Pursuit of Perfect Sound — and this commitment is reflected in products that dramatically improve our customers’ abilities to deliver audio quality that is second to none. The Digital 9000 and HDVD are two such products.”

Since the TEC Foundation was established in 1990, Sennheiser and Neumann have been presented with a cumulative total of 20 Oustanding Technical Achievement awards as well as having five products represented in the TECnology Hall of Fame, including the venerable MD 421 microphone.

The Sennheiser Digital 9000 Wireless System
The Digital 9000 Wireless System offers completely uncompressed and artifact free digital audio, combining sonic purity and outstanding dynamics. It’s the first digital wireless system that works without compression, allowing for full HD audio transmission. The system uses extremely steep filters to allow a very narrow set-up of the respective radio frequencies within the available frequency range. Through this, the risk of intermodulation is eliminated, allowing for the most reliable wireless operation.

Sennheiser HDVD 800 Headphone Amp/DAC
The HDVD 800 Headphone Amp/DAC is a solid-state amplifier that generates the ultimate acoustic performance when paired with any of Sennheiser’s audiophile headphones. It highlights crisp, balanced and distortion-free sound through a high-quality Burr-Brown digital/analog converter (DAC). The amplifier is outfitted with a symmetrical input socket, which allows for incoming signals to be symmetrized before processing takes place. The HDVD 800 also offers an extra USB input, allowing for 24-bit data transmission at 192 kHz.

About Sennheiser:

Sennheiser is a world-leading manufacturer of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems. Established in 1945 in Wedemark, Germany, Sennheiser is now a global brand represented in 60 countries around the world with U.S. headquarters in Old Lyme, Connecticut. HARMAN’s Studer Unveils New Infinity Series Processing Engine and Vista X Console Featuring Groundbreaking DSP Technology

NEW YORK, New York – Marking an enormous step forward in large-scale mixing console technology for broadcast applications, HARMAN’s Studer introduces its new Vista X digital console and the Studer Infinity Processing Engine. The Vista X offers an unsurpassed intuitive user interface, retaining the patented Vistonics™ and FaderGlow™ user interface, providing control of 800 or more audio DSP channels and more than 5,000 inputs and outputs.

At the heart of the system is the Infinity DSP core, which uses CPU-based processors to provide huge numbers of DSP channels for large-scale, high-resolution audio processing and mixing. Thanks to the Infinity core, this is the first time more than 800 audio channels have been processed in a single CPU-based board. This offers significant advantages, as CPU processing provides a scalable system, faster development of new signal processing designs, huge channel counts, full system redundancy without a single point of failure and the possibility of running third-party algorithms.

Until now, most audio DSP has used SHARC or FPGA chips. When applied to large-scale broadcast mixing applications these chip sets suffer two shortcomings: firstly, SHARC chips were developed nearly 15 years ago, and over time the capacity has increased by about 22 times. This has not kept pace with the increasing demands of modern multi-channel production. FPGAs, on the other hand, have increased in capacity hugely over the years but they are more complex to program for the specialist needs of audio DSP.

The impetus behind infinity was Studer’s desire to create a DSP engine that not only offers superb sonic quality but is adaptable and flexible to meet the changing demands of the market. The attraction of CPU technology as used on most computers has resulted in huge worldwide R&D investment in this technology. As such, these chips are not only extremely reliable in operation but also result in a doubling of processor power every 24 months (known as “Moore’s Law”).

The new Infinity DSP engine provides 12 A-Link high-capacity fiber digital audio interfaces, providing more than 5,000 inputs and outputs. A newly designed high-density I/O system – D23m, is used to break out these A-Link connections to standard analog, digital and video interfaces. The A-Link interface also provides direct connection to the Riedel MediorNet distributed router, allowing many Infinity systems to be connected together with router capacities of 10,000 square or more.

Studer consoles are designed with longevity and mission-critical operations in mind, and therefore reliability is of prime importance. A key element in the design of the Infinity Series is to avoid the possibility of a single fault causing loss of audio. Taking a lead from the “fly by wire” aircraft industry with multiple redundant processors flying the airplane, the new Vista X console features four processors, offering complete redundancy of the control surface. Now, the Infinity Core, with a combination of CPU-based DSP and A-Link audio interfaces, offers N+1 redundancy of the DSP engine and I/O with instant switchover between main and standby system without audio break.

CPU-based DSP means it is now economically viable to provide two completely independent DSP cores running in parallel with “instant” change over in case of DSP problems. The provision of two completely independent DSP engines overcomes potential single points of failure offered with traditional TDM-based systems. This new design also offers the possibility of two complete Vista X surfaces to be working on the same project at the same time. This allows very large, dual language or multi-format productions to be undertaken with ease.

HARMAN’s Martin Professional Share Your Passion Contest Winner Receives First-Hand Lighting R&D Experience

AARHUS, Denmark — In late 2013, HARMAN’s Martin Professional put out a call to lighting designers around the world, whether a professional lighting designer, small-venue producer or industry newbie, to share their passion for the lighting industry. With hundreds of entries, a 1-minute-long video from 22-year-old Ricardo Dias from Portugal managed to convince Martin he was the most passionate member of the lighting industry. His creative approach to lighting earned him, along with his father, a round-trip visit to Martin headquarters in Denmark for a 2-day tour of a lifetime.

Dias’ creative approach to lighting design was the most impressive point of interest to Martin. The recession continues to impact the lighting industry in Portugal, so the lack of proper equipment forces Dias and his crew of 3-4 friends to be creative when hired for a gig. During events, the team has to make on-the-fly repairs and adjustments on the hardware side and customize software, so they continuously turned to the Martin Forum and YouTube for inspiration.

As a student of Electronics at the University of Aveiro in Portugal, Dias is used to working in the cross field between hardware and technology. One of his recent school projects was an application written for the Microsoft Kinect that allows him to control the light with simple gestures. His next step is a project combining gestures and voice control of light in a stage environment.

Dias is also head coach for a robotics football team and is hoping to attend the upcoming world championship “Robocup” in Brazil this summer. Additionally, he is the President of a Youth Association at his university, consisting of professors and students, where he organizes and promotes extra-curricular lectures and workshops, providing support to student projects.

During their visit, Dias and his father visited the Martin production facilities in Frederikshavn and HQ in Aarhus, where they had a tour of the R&D department and experienced a lighting demonstration in the Martin showroom. They also spent time with Martin employees, such as Ricardo’s longtime industry hero, Product Manager Paul Pelletier.

“They were born and raised in the digital age. Technology does not intimidate them – it is a natural part of their everyday lives,” states Pelletier. “Maybe this is why technology has becomes part of the solution for Ricardo and his peers.”

Among Ricardo’s favorite products is the RUSH range. As he puts it, “all those effects in one small lamp is incredible and I wish I had one at home.” His long-term goal is to combine his passion for lighting with electronics and one day – in the not too distant future – he sees himself working in Martin R&D.

“To Martin, in the wake of his visit, Ricardo Dias has become the symbol of an emerging generation of cross-disciplinary lighting enthusiasts with a brand new methodology and approach,” stated David Ravnkilde, Director of Marketing, Martin. “We’re excited to see what the future has in store for Ricardo and his generation and how they will impact the lighting industry!”

As a world leader in the creation of dynamic lighting solutions for the entertainment, architectural, and commercial sectors, Martin lighting and video systems are renowned the world over. Martin also offers a range of advanced lighting controllers and media servers, as well as a complete line of smoke machines as a complement to intelligent lighting.
