Social Media on the X2O Platform
The X2O platform allows users to harness the power of social media by displaying user-generated content from popular sites such as Twitter(TM), YouTube(TM), and Facebook. Interactivity can also be easily added by displaying QR codes that users can scan with their mobile devices — enabling extremely convenient access, delivery, and download of information.

SharePoint TV
SharePoint TV on the X2O visual communications platform allows users to create stunning TV-like channels based on content in the popular Microsoft(R) SharePoint(R) enterprise collaboration platform and automatically push them onto all screens across an organization, from digital displays to mobile devices and desktops. Using the X2O platform’s intuitive drag-and-drop authoring tools, users can select from a library of smart objects specifically designed to work with SharePoint applications, such as company news and announcements, team calendars, task lists, document browsing, and dashboards. This can be augmented with other user-generated content from social media, yielding relevant company dashboards without any additional programming. Users can then quickly and easily display this information on a variety of screens throughout an organization, including mobile phones, tablets, and desktops. Information updated in SharePoint is automatically reflected on screens in real time, greatly improving the delivery of information without adding additional processes. For timely messages and alerts, information can be entered directly into SharePoint and quickly sent throughout a business or organization, or to one specific person, team, or department. For more creative collaboration and knowledge sharing, employees can also publish videos, images, and PowerPoint(R) slides that appear within the SharePoint interface. The result is a powerful tool for optimized enterprise-wide communications with the look and feel of a corporate TV channel.

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Tour Rolls Cross Country With Clay Paky

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Mannheim Steamroller. The distinctive ensemble is marking the 29th anniversary of its Christmas concert tours with a multimedia display featuring a light show and big-screen images and videos synchronized with their music. Lighting designer Richard Jackson has included Clay Paky Sharpy Washes in his rig for the first time.

Mannheim Steamroller debuted their first Christmas album in 1984 combining the group’s signature mix of baroque instruments and rock ‘n roll beats to give a fresh twist to holiday classics. This year two tours of six-member ensembles are playing 80 dates on a Christmas tour running from mid-November to late December.

Francesco Romagnoli, Clay Paky Area Manager for North and Latin America, commented, “It’s great to see our Sharpys added to such an iconic show. I’m glad that Mr. Jackson is getting good use out of them and I’m sure the audiences will enjoy them as well.”

“Mannheim Steamroller is the longest-running, best-selling Christmas show of all time,” declares Jackson, who has been the tour’s lighting designer for the last five years. “I design the show with the production manager and lighting director for the other tour. I go out with one of the tours and do all the programming as well.”

This year Jackson opted for 16 Sharpy Washes, from long-time Omaha-based equipment supplier TMS, as his primary wash units. “Thanks to the versatility of the light, they have become workhorses,” he says. “We have ten in the air and six on the ground. They do a lot of graphical stuff, high-beam stuff. I can go from a wide wash with great smooth coverage from ten of them then tighten them up and get nice beamy graphical stuff.

“What I really like about them is that they work great in the range of venues we play – from a small place with low trim to a big college auditorium or arena,” says Jackson. “I also like their speed – not just movement speed but the ability to change from a color wheel effect to a color mix wash almost instantly. They have also lowered my power consumption, which is I great. I think they’re fantastic!”

Jackson seems to have struck just the right note for the Christmas tour with his equipment. “All the gear has performed flawlessly even in the extreme temperature changes we experience,” he reports.

The LDs for the two tours are Richard Jackson and Patrick Haines and the lighting techs are Justin Borgelt, Tony Gibson and Andrew Shaw.

Shipped with both four-segment and six-segment color wheels, the projectors allow users to interchange the components based on specific installation requirements such as the need for increased brightness or more striking image quality. To further installation flexibility, the P Series features seven interchangeable lenses ranging from 3.4M short-throw optics to long zoom 16.41 24.71M capabilities in order to suit any projection distance. Now with motorized horizontal and vertical lens shift, and a powered 1.6 zoom ratio, the projectors enable easy centralized remote management for simpler setup versatility in any classroom, lecture hall, boardroom, or multipurpose auditorium.

FiberPlex MADI SFP Passes Optical to Avid During NFL Pro Bowl Sunday

It was a double pass for optical fiber at Sunday’s NFL Pro Bowl game at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, where copper cabling took a beating due to excessive moisture buildup from the rain.

“The issue with copper wasn’t noise for a change, it was water,” said Jeff Kang with Custom Audio, Kaneohe, Hawaii, which has been providing sound reinforcement for Pro Bowl for over 10 years. Fortunately, this year, Kang had contacted FiberPlex Technologies about a MADI-to-optic conversion box for his Avid Profile live audio console in order to run optical fiber across the stadium, and thereby bypass the problems associated with a copper run.

The FiberPlex FOI-6010 conversion box with MADI SFP/SFP+ (small form-factor pluggable module) on one end and multimode fiber SFP/SFP+ on the other makes it possible to run a fiber snake between the Avid FOH rack and a main stage rack about 650 feet away, something Kang wishes he had been able to do with a secondary stage rack 350 feet up field. The secondary stage rack connected through copper cabling was glitchy due to a steady drizzle of rain the day of the game.

“The problem was that it (copper snake) would constantly switch between primary and backup because of the condensation,” he said, adding that the optical run was unaffected by weather or noise – which was good, because he didn’t have a backup system. “That’s how much trust I put in these fiber systems,” commented Kang, who has two FiberPlex LightViper audio snakes that he uses for a variety of venues, including use as a 330-foot optical snake during the Pro Bowl game.

For Pro Bowl 2014, FiberPlex’s MADI SFP/SFP+ easily handled Avid’s modified MADI protocol for bidirectional 48×48 digital audio channels into multimode optical fiber supporting separate wireless mics, multitrack recordings, live band, plus a number of announcers and other sources that add to the mix of a typical NFL game. The remaining channels of the 64×64 bidirectional MADI capability are used for controlling mic preamps, metering, and for reading data on the Avid stage rack down field. (This is part of Avid’s modified use of the MADI protocol.)

Custom Audio is one of a growing number of sound reinforcement firms now using optical snakes for live mixing and other applications that require transporting media error-free and transparently over long distances. Setup requires only a few strands of fiber for the copper equivalent of a 40-pair, 500-pound snake, which is why Custom Audio’s crew was able to dismantle the system in record time after the Pro Bowl game. “My crew looked at me and said, ‘We got out of here two hours faster than we normally do,’” commented Kang.

FiberPlex makes fiber optic products and systems for government agencies as well as for houses of worship, corporate facilities, broadcast applications, and K-12 and higher education.

Triad Speakers, Inc. Ships its Thinnest Soundbar Yet, the Nano OnWall LCR 3.0

Fully-damped and braced extruded aluminum enclosure measures 1.6-inches deep by 3.25 inches high and is available in custom widths and paint finishes. Add to the mix premium components and passionate sound engineering and the Nano OnWall LCR 3.0 is the best performer in its class today

Portland, OR – January 28, 2014 – Triad Speakers, Inc. is now shipping its Nano OnWall LCR 3.0, a
3-channels-in-1 passive loudspeaker system (soundbar) for today’s ultra-slim TVs. The company’s thinnest soundbar to date, Nano measures 1.6-inches deep (including grille) by 3.25 inches high and is available in both custom widths and paint finishes. MSRP begins at $1,200. Standard accessories include Triad’s EZ Mount Bracket and brackets to mount directly to the TV.

Triad has been in business for more than 30 years and is well-established as a leading international brand of loudspeaker solutions in the custom residential channel. The brand offers dealers a robust line of in-room, on-wall, in-wall and in-ceiling solutions, the majority of which is custom-manufactured in the USA.

Triad’s soundbar line consists of 10 models at varying levels of performance and sizes to complement most every TV available today. According to Triad Speakers Marketing Manager Paul Teixeira, it was the lackluster sound of today’s ultra-slim TVs that prompted the company to engineer a speaker that could maintain the sleek look of the TVs, yet provide robust performance.

Teixeira notes, “While there are other manufacturers that market thin soundbars, their sound has typically taken a backseat to size. The Nano LCR 3.0 incorporates 6 specially-designed Scan-Speak drivers and 3 soft dome SB tweeters in a fully-damped and braced aluminum enclosure, all of which was a major challenge from such a compact enclosure. We’re very proud of how it sounds and looks, and believe it’s the best performer in its class today.”
