ADAM Audio Debuts New Sub15 Subwoofer

Hicksville, NY––The new Sub15 from ADAM Audio is a powerful subwoofer capable of easily extending the frequency range of main and midfield monitors down to 20Hz. The rugged 15“ woofer is made of an exceptionally rigid aluminum membrane and driven by two powerful magnets and a 100mm voice coil.

The Sub15 combines exceptional transient response with an efficient low frequency performance. A high-powered and undistorted sound pressure output of 112dB maximum SPL at one meter makes it the perfect subwoofer for mid-sized and larger control rooms.

With 1000W (RMS) power, the Sub 15′s PWM amplifier has an efficiency factor of nearly 90%, which allow it to handle critical musical passages with sudden peaks without distortion or overheating. The downward firing bass port has been specially designed with generous dimensions and rounded edges to cancel port noise.

The Sub15 is equipped with a volume control (-60dB to +6dB) and crossover frequency control (50 – 150Hz) to adjust the sound for different room situations and individual tastes. Satellite speakers can either be driven full range or high pass filtered at 85Hz. A phase reverse switch is provided to deal with unfavorable phase relationships between the satellites and the subwoofer, particularly in the crossover frequency range.

To ensure maximum connectivity, the Sub15 features both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) input/output connectors on the rear control panel.

PBS Technology Conference to Offer IEEE BTS ‘Bridging the Gap’ Training Course

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Feb. 5, 2014 — The IEEE Broadcast Technology Society (BTS) today announced that its “Bridging the Gap” technical training program, which is designed to bridge the knowledge gap between IT technologists and video specialists, will be offered at this year’s PBS Technology Conference (TechCon), a premier annual gathering for broadcast engineers, information technology and traffic professionals, general managers, and senior executives within the public television field.

“Bridging the Gap” ensures that the chief and senior engineers responsible for designing, upgrading, and maintaining broadcast facilities are up to speed on next-generation technologies and workflows. A one-day, condensed version of the training program will take place during PBS’ TechCon on April 2 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Attendees in prior years have indicated that the course was tremendous in terms of both content and value. IEEE continuing education credits are available to those who complete the seminar.

“TechCon provides broadcasters with a forum for education, professional development, networking, and exposure to new ideas and technologies. As such, it is an ideal venue for the IEEE BTS ‘Bridging the Gap’ training course,” said Kevin Ruppenthal, manager, technology strategy at PBS. “As more broadcasters transition to file-based workflows, it’s important that they’re cross-trained in IT and broadcast technologies. ‘Bridging the Gap’ will help the broadcast community become more proficient in both concepts to deliver the best possible quality of service to viewers.

The “Bridging the Gap” technical training course is open to the public, regardless of whether individuals are attending the PBS TechCon. Cost for the seminar is $150. Online registration is now open and can be accessed at http://www.pbstechconference.org/registration/. Space is limited, so attendees are encouraged to register by Feb. 21.

The “Bridging the Gap” training course at PBS TechCon will be taught by well-known broadcast industry experts John Luff and Wes Simpson. Professionals taking the course will walk away with a deeper understanding of a wide range of current and emerging technologies used in broadcast facilities, including baseband digital video transport, data networking for broadcast facilities, metadata, loudness, monitoring, and video compression, enabling them to more efficiently resolve day-to-day issues. Attendees receive a printed copy of the course materials featuring detailed diagrams and tables for future reference.

The IEEE BTS is also accepting hosts for future training sessions. The two-day seminars accommodate 30 or more students at a cost of $395 per attendee. Sessions can be hosted privately by a broadcast organization or can be open to the public. Host organizations may be entitled to receive a discount on student tuition, and IEEE BTS members receive a 5 percent discount toward tuition.

For more information about attending or hosting the IEEE BTS’ “Bridging the Gap” technical training program, please contact Amy Reeder, technical community program specialist, via phone at +1 732 562 5416 or by emailing her at a.reeder@ieee.org.

Biamp Systems Announces New Paging Input Options and Adaptors for VoIP and Analog Paging System

Vocia(R) 1.6 delivers new functionality and three new devices to public address and voice evacuation system

AMSTERDAM, ISE 2014 — Feb. 5, 2014 — Biamp Systems, a leading provider of innovative, networked media systems, today announced the launch of Vocia(R) 1.6, a significant addition to the company’s networked public address and voice evacuation system. Vocia 1.6 provides three new hardware devices — the eight-channel Vocia Input (VI-8) for analog and digital paging inputs, the VoIP-1 telephone-paging adaptor, and the POTS-1 analog telephone-paging adaptor. A large number of new features and enhancements in Vocia 1.6 software include impedance monitoring for the Vocia VA-8600 amplifier, support for unicast CobraNet(R) local inputs, and a dry contact control input mode for Vocia Life Safety Interface (LSI-16e), VI-8, and Vocia General Purpose I/O (GPIO-1) devices.

“Vocia 1.6 introduces new components and features to extend our industry-leading platform to an even broader range of installations of varying sizes, while bringing our Vocia and Tesira platforms closer together as an integrated solution for flexible, multi-functional environments,” said Graeme Harrison, Executive Vice President of Marketing, Biamp Systems. “Vocia 1.6 delivers the flexibility within a system to integrate paging directly with both VoIP and analog telephone systems.”

Supporting up to eight analog or CobraNet paging audio inputs, the new Vocia VI-8 input device rapidly routes signals to any assigned page code. Expanding the interoperability of the Biamp(R) product line, the VI-8 accepts paging audio inputs from Audia(R) and Tesira(R) systems, and can be used in conjunction with monitored Vocia GPIO-1 devices for fire panel supervision and priority for emergency pages. Designed to interface with existing paging stations, the VI-8 is ideal for large venues such as airports, convention centers, and healthcare campuses.

The Vocia VoIP-1 is a simple VoIP telephone-paging adapter, and the POTS-1 is an analog telephone-paging adapter. Both are ideal for installations in smaller hospitals and industrial environments, or those that require a simple VoIP or POTS extension capability. Both the VoIP-1 and POTS-1 enable live paging as well as store and forward to assigned page codes within any Vocia installation. The units support two lines with an option to support four lines by ordering the units with an expansion card.

In addition to Vocia’s current End of Line (ELD-1) device, Vocia 1.6 provides the VA-8600 amplifier as an additional way to monitor speaker line health via impedance monitoring. This makes Vocia ideal for installations in which the speaker infrastructure is already in place. Additionally, Unicast CobraNet inputs from both Audia and Tesira systems can be directly routed to Vocia amplifiers, allowing an increased number of background sources to access any one area without affecting the number of simultaneous pages that are possible.

Vocia 1.6 will be available in June 2014. More information on Biamp’s full line of audio solutions is available at www.biamp.com.

HARMAN’s Martin Dynamic Digital Media Façade Renews Confederation of Danish Industry in the Heart of Copenhagen

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands — HARMAN’s Martin Professional, Kollision and Transform Architects have completely refurbished the exterior of the Confederation of Danish Industry building in Copenhagen, which now boasts a beautiful façade, highlighted by an ever-changing LED media surface for a more engaging and emotional presence.

The location of the building was the main reason for a media façade solution, as it sits in Copenhagen at Rådhuspladsen, where outdoor advertising has been an integral part of the area for more than 100 years.

Transform architect Lars Bendrup said, “This LED media façade was the next logical step. It’s an entirely new way of communicating through the language of light. Confederation of Danish Industry is showing a new face – one that reflects dynamism and change.”

The media façade incorporates 4,000 meters of Martin Professional’s VC-Strip in a customized outdoor solution, forming a harlequin pattern across the entire building on which a variety of graphic designs can be displayed. The LED strips are full-color RGB LED battens with each LED (over 90,000 in total) individually controllable in terms of color, brightness and intensity.

Content for the façade was created by Danish design firm Kollision, in cooperation with Transform and allows the Confederation of Danish Industry to use the lighting fixtures as a dynamic interface between its brand, the building and the urban setting. The system gives the client’s internal communication department the freedom to transmit any look or expression they wish onto the facade. The player-system also includes an integrated weather service app controlling the brightness of the façade and be controlled and adjusted through a custom iPad app.

“We cooperated with Martin on a solution from the start, even before we decided on the LED strip solution. It was tremendously good to work with Martin as they had the knowledge needed to integrate our LED lighting needs into this project,” Bendrup continued. “This is perhaps the most ambitious media façade integration in Scandinavia and signals a change in the architectural landscape.”

Other areas of the Confederation of Danish Industry building have also been outfitted with new Martin Professional lighting systems, including the conference room, with 60 Martin moving head luminaires and Martin LED strips; the reception area with strings of LED dots; and five elevators at the main entrance, where each floor interactively sets its own light level and color temperature – a complete Martin reference, both inside and out.

The main contractor on the Confederation of Danish Industry renovation project was E. Pihl & Søn.

Genelec Has Strong Presence at the 2014 NAMM Show

— With a product debut and awards for new and classic Genelec offerings, the NAMM Show was the backdrop for an impressive showing from Genelec —

NATICK, MA, January 29, 2014 — Genelec is proud to wrap a successful several days in Anaheim at the 2014 NAMM Show. Since recently marking the completion of its 35th anniversary year celebration in 2013, Genelec has been on a roll, and this convention served as the backdrop for a new product unveiling (the 8010 Active Monitor) and multiple prestigious awards for the loudspeaker pioneer.

Debuted at the show, the 8010 Active Monitor is the smallest member of the acclaimed 8000 Series product range. The 8000 Series is widely used in the high-end professional audio, mastering, post-production and broadcast market sectors around the world. Its professional heritage is reflected in the compact-sized 8010. Suitable for professional work in small studios, it offers accurate monitoring capability with ease of installation. The outstanding sound quality makes the 8010 ideal for small studios and OB vans, and a perfect companion for portable recording devices and other mobile production work.

Genelec products were also the recipients of two different awards from the NAMM Foundation at the NAMM Show:

First, Genelec’s new M Series Active Monitors won the 29th Annual TEC Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement in the category “Studio Monitor Technology.” The award was presented on January 24, 2014, at a special ceremony. The energy-efficient M Series (thus far comprising the first two models, M030 and M040) takes a new approach to monitor design as part of Genelec’s larger ongoing sustainable initiatives known as Genelec Embedded Sustainability. The primary focus in developing the new M Series was to proceed with a sustainable mindset without sacrificing the accuracy and reliability for which Genelec has been known for the past 35 years – while also offering something new and innovative for project studio customers.

Second, Genelec’s classic 1031A Active Studio Monitor, introduced in 1991, was inducted into the TECnology Hall of Fame at a separate ceremony on January 25, 2014. Outlining the 1031A’s outstanding achievement, the Hall of Fame’s description of the monitor is as follows: “The 1031A was not Genelec’s first monitor (that was 1978′s S-30) or active system that employed the innovative Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) — a nod that goes to 1984’s 1022A mid-field tri-amp and later 1989′s large-format 1035A system. However in 1991, when Genelec debuted the 1031A — a compact, yet high-performance monitor that applied the DCW approach into a self-powered near-field design, a classic was born. At just over 15 inches tall, the 1031A offered flat response (out to 23k Hz), 240 watts of onboard biamplification and the ability to reach 120 dB peaks. All of these made the 1031A a popular choice with top engineers and producers, studios and broadcasters worldwide and it stayed in production for 15 years, eventually being replaced by Genelec’s 8000 series Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) technology monitors.”

“This has been a banner year for Genelec,” stated Will Eggleston, Genelec Inc. Marketing Manager. “I can think of no better way to wrap our 35th anniversary celebration than to have such an eventful NAMM Show. We are immensely proud of our new 8010 Active Monitor and M Series products, and it was a true honor to be acknowledged by the NAMM Foundation in two separate award ceremonies. We are dedicated to our technology on an intense level, and it is satisfying to see the fruits of our hard work.”

HARMAN’s Martin LEDs Enhance Customer Experience at Iconic BMW World

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands — As one of Munich’s most popular attractions, BMW World is a unique and extremely important showcase for the premium automaker. Whether visiting BMW World as a tourist or there to pick up a brand new car, BMW World offers an extra-ordinary brand experience to customers. Today, BMW World features an eye-catching HARMAN Martin color illumination on the outside of the building – a dynamic lighting scheme that has now been extended indoors as a daylight solution.

As one of the world’s great luxury automakers, the atmosphere surrounding presentations of the various car models must be perfect, avoiding both shape and color distortion. Therefore, especially high demands are put on the lighting environment. An extremely even daylight illumination is required – a uniform level of light that must be guaranteed no matter the ambient conditions, time of day or time of year.

“The Martin LED fixtures required the ability to show shape and color in the correct way,” stated Florian Felsch, General Manager, Livebau Solutions. “With this LED solution, we have calibrated 5,600-Calvin- color temperature, which is perfect for product presentation. We’ve also lowered the maintenance cost by 90 percent and the return of investment is only 1.5 years on the lighting setup.”

Martin Professional LED-based Exterior 430 luminaires have been installed and produce optimal results, meeting the highest standards and requirements of luminosity and color rendering at BMW World.
