R.L. Drake to Showcase High-Quality, Affordable IP and RF QAM Digital TV Solutions at Cruise Shipping Miami

MIAMISBURG, Ohio — Feb. 12, 2014 — R.L. Drake today announced that it will demonstrate a range of high-quality, affordable IP and RF QAM digital television solutions at Cruise Shipping Miami, March 10-13 in Miami Beach, Fla. Utilizing the company’s MPEG-2/MPEG-4 H.264 video encoders, encoder host platforms, and digital signage encoders, the cruise industry can cost-effectively deliver high-quality SD and HD digital television content to flat-screen displays located in guest rooms and other areas of the ship. The solutions will be on display at Cruise Shipping Miami at the Toner Cable Equipment, Inc./Drake booth 1719.

“High-quality customer service is paramount in the cruise ship industry,” said Andy Ruffin, vice president of sales at Drake. “At Cruise Shipping Miami, we’ll demonstrate how Drake’s IP and RF QAM digital television solutions provide cruise ship operators with the reliability, quality, and affordability needed to deliver first-class entertainment to guests.”

IP Encoding Solutions
A key highlight at the show will be Drake’s modular IP encoder host platform, the EH244-IP, which supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 H.264 video encoders. Compatibility with existing equipment, affordable pricing, and a small footprint ensures that the EH244-IP can easily be integrated into any infrastructure.

As a leading video integrator serving the cruise industry, John Boothe, owner of JJOB Technology, said Drake’s commitment to provide the highest quality products and service is key. “Drake is the leading video infrastructure vendor for maritime installations, supporting approximately 80 percent of the RF QAM projects we work on as a systems integrator,” said Boothe. “In addition to viewing Drake as an established provider of RF QAM solutions, many of our customers in the cruise ship industry are now expressing interest in Drake’s IPTV encoders, based on their ability to support up to 12 QAM and SPTS in a single two-rack unit.”

RF QAM Encoding Solutions
At Cruise Shipping Miami, Drake will also demonstrate its proven EH244 RF QAM solution that enables efficient digital video distribution on cruise ships. All of the products are compatible with existing RF QAM distribution systems, lowering the cost of digital video delivery for cruise ship operators.

The SDE24 and SDI24A encoders generate an MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 H.264 video stream derived from an NTSC composite or SDI/HD-SDI source, respectively. The scalable EH244 platform supports up to six encoder modules, offering customers maximum flexibility. All Drake encoder modules support Dolby(R) AC-3 encoding and MPEG-1 Audio Layer II to ensure worldwide compatibility.

All IP and RF QAM encoders include an optional EAS feature that enables the cruise ship captain to interrupt video and audio content on digital TVs to deliver important information to guests.

At Cruise Shipping Miami, Drake will also showcase its high-quality, affordable solution for delivering customized digital signage content to flat-screen displays via legacy coaxial cable networks. The DSE24 can encode a single uncompressed program derived from devices with HDMI, component video, or VGA outputs to HD MPEG-2 video. An internal modulator and low noise upconverter allows cruise ship operators to use their existing legacy fiber/coax networks as distribution channels for digital signage content, opening up additional revenue opportunities.
