Antelope Audio Announces Zen Studio, the First Portable Audio Interface with 20 Analog Inputs, 12 Mic Preamps and DSP effects

Zen Studio, featuring 38 simultaneous input and 32 output channels in a sleek, easy to carry ergonomic box, to be first seen at Musikmesse, hall 5.1, booth C60

Frankfurt, Germany, March 12, 2014: Leading professional audio gear manufacturer Antelope Audio introduces Zen Studio, a professional, portable audio interface with the most competitive analog and digital connectivity. The 12 world-class mic pres, Antelope’s signature clocking, the on-board DSP effects with multiple monitor mixers and the proprietary low-latency USB connectivity make Zen a world-class mobile recording system, that can fit easily inside a backpack or gear bag. Zen Studio is designed to meet the needs of the modern day producer or engineer on-the-go, as well as location sound engineers, sound designers, independent bands and musicians in search of greater sound quality and flexibility.

Supreme sound:
Antelope Audio Acoustically Focused Clocking guarantees the most authentic analog sounding A/D & D/A conversion on the market. Antelope’s clocking and conversion along with the custom USB technology implemented in Zen are identical to the ones in the top-selling 32-channel Orion interface which is a centerpiece in the playback rigs for artists such as Rihanna, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, and inside the mixing and mastering studios of engineers like Eric Sarafin (aka Mixerman), Brian Vibberts, Howie Wienberg or electronic music producers like Robert Babicz and Dusty Kid.

Power and flexibility:
In addition to proven sound quality, Zen Studio offers an extremely powerful DSP, based on a custom FPGA device with massive parallel processing capabilities. The proprietary FPGA makes the DSP chip in Zen Studio eight times more powerful than the ones used in similar devices. This allows fast and easy simultaneous processing of multiple effects, enhancing the workflow like no other device on the market.

Unique versatility:
All audio I/O is available simultaneously for a total of 38 possible input and 32 output channels, plus 24 simultaneous I/O channels via custom USB. Users can create up to four independent zero-latency mixes assignable to any outputs, including the two independent headphone outputs and monitor outputs. The unit is fully controllable using an intuitive desktop application on both PC and Mac, offering flexible signal routing and DSP-based effects alongside custom presets.

Zen Studio is a versatile stand-alone device as well as a perfect companion to Orion32. Zen was born out of the need for a studio-quality portable solution that can easily be taken with you, while your main interface remains in the rack. Zen Studio is based on proven technologies used in Orion32. Whereas the rack-mountable Orion32 stands out with its MADI connectivity and unmatched channel count available over USB, Zen Studio delivers a breakthrough number of mic pres and DI instrument inputs for a mobile-sized interface, along with exceptional monitoring and tracking DSP capabilities to be used on-the-go.

Zen studio is planned to start shipping by the end of Q2 2014 with a prospected price of $2,495.

Connectivity:

• 12 Class A mic preamps, with phantom power
• 8 mic/line inputs
• 4 mic/line/instrument inputs
• 2 Independently assignable headphone outputs
• 2 DSUB-25 connector (8 channels I/O)
• 1 Stereo monitor out
• 4 ADAT connectors (up to 16 channels I/O)
• 2 SPDIF RCA connectors (I/O)
• 2 Inserts over TRS
• 2 Word Clock BNC connectors (I/O)
• 1 Low-latency high-bandwidth USB 2.0

BenQ’s New M7 Series Projectors Bring High Brightness to Classrooms, Meeting Spaces, and Multimedia Spaces

COSTA MESA, Calif. — March 11, 2014 — BenQ America Corp., an internationally renowned provider of visual display solutions and global DLP(R) projector leader, today introduced additions to the M7 Series of business projectors with the new MX768 and MW769. Part of the company’s high brightness, high performance devices, the projection pair features up to 4,200 ANSI lumens of brightness, contrast ratios extending to 13,000:1, and flexible installation options that virtually eliminate the need to perform any manual adjustments. The end result is Colorific(TM) picture quality for accurate, crisp, and long-lasting color, SmartEco(TM) power-saving technology for lowering total cost of ownership (TCO), and overall simpler setup and maintenance for a wide range of small to medium-sized applications.

“The latest additions to our M7 Series sustain BenQ’s belief that both brightness and image quality can go hand-in-hand with ease of use and installation flexibility,” said Bob Wudeck, Associate Vice President, Strategy and Business Development at BenQ America Corp. “With wireless display capabilities, compatibility with third-party devices, and flexible placement options, the new MX768 and MW769 projectors are a testament to BenQ’s reputation for responsive innovation — providing teachers, students, and presenters with collaborative tools for superior presentations.”

Featuring resolutions in both XGA (MX768) and WXGA (MW769), respective 4,000 and 4,200 ANSI lumens of brightness, and high contrast ratios of 13,000:1, the MX768 and MW769 projectors are designed to bring the precision, brightness, and high-quality imaging required to meet the demands of today’s medium-sized classrooms, corporate meeting spaces, and other presentation venues — regardless of ambient light settings. For added convenience and to further accentuate the multimedia facets of any presentation by bringing screen-casted content to life, the projectors also come equipped with 20W speakers, offer full 3D Ready and nVidia 3DTV Play capabilities, and include optional wireless display for content delivery over the cloud.

For IT managers, LAN control enables centralized remote monitoring and management, while integration with Crestron(R) RoomView(TM), AMX(R), and PJLink(R), plus 1.5x (MX768) and 1.6x (MW769) big-zoom lens ratios, add to the projectors’ flexibility. Setups are made even easier with “Corner Fit” for both vertical and horizontal keystone capabilities, which adjust the picture’s four corners to create a perfectly rectangular onscreen shape, while “Surface Fit” automatically prevents unwanted image blends due to uneven surfaces, eliminating the need for users to ever perform another manual adjustment.

To enable PC-less presentations, the MX768 and MW769 provide wireless display options, allowing cable-free connections to presenters’ content sources for more fluid interactive sessions. The projectors offer a complete multimedia hub with a variety of connectivity options including HDMI, RJ45, and USB. Other energy-saving features include “instant restart,” which allows rapid rebooting when the devices are accidentally switched off, up to 3,500 hours of lamp life with BenQ’s SmartEco(TM) lamp-saving technology, and a filter-free optical system, which reduces the projectors’ TCO.

Available now, BenQ’s MX768 and MW769 projectors retail at $2,199 and $2,399 respectively. More information on the full line of BenQ products is available at www.BenQ.us.

Aviom’s D800-Dante™ A-Net Distributor Now Shipping

Portland, OR – West Chester, PA, March 12, 2014—Audinate and Aviom are pleased to announce that the D800-Dante A-Net Distributor is now shipping. This unit and the new D800 A-Net Distributor, which is also shipping, distribute audio and power to up to eight Aviom personal mixers and make Aviom systems easier to integrate with various digital consoles and networks.

After licensing Audinate’s Dante protocol last year, Aviom used the protocol to create this new distributor because the integration of Dante allowed users with consoles and networks from various manufacturers to easily connect to an Aviom personal mixing system.

Built on existing networking protocols and standards, Dante is a plug-and-play networking solution which delivers ultra-low latency and tightly synchronized media, while simplifying installation and configuration of digital media networks.

Aviom’s product research and development manager, Ray Legnini, says, “The D800-Dante A-Net Distributor is one of the simplest solutions for getting up to 64 channels into the network digitally. With the D800-Dante, both channels going to the Aviom personal mixers and stereo mixes back from the personal mixers can remain in the digital domain, thus simplifying the workflow. Dante is an effective solution for users looking to integrate their audio gear across a single network.”

“Aviom has always been known for their innovative, technology-based products that meet the needs of audio professionals and musicians working in a number of environments,” says Lee Ellison, CEO of Audinate. Ellison adds, “The D800-Dante A-Net Distributor provides Aviom customers with a means to integrate easily with the rapidly expanding number of audio products on the market that are already operating on a Dante network.”

The D800-Dante A-Net Distributor simplifies connections to the Aviom personal mixers by making it possible to connect directly to any Dante console or network. With the D800-Dante A-Net Distributor, 64 channels from the network can be available to the personal mixers in the system. Each performer with an A360 Personal Mixer can mix those channels he or she wants from this pool of 64 available channels.

Both the D800 and D800-Dante A-Net Distributors are compatible with Aviom’s A-16II and A-16R Personal Mixers, but when used with the A360 Personal Mixers, the D800 and D800-Dante also offer the new Network Mix Back™ feature. Network Mix Back sends a digital copy of the stereo mix output from each A360 Personal Mixer connected to the D800 or D800-Dante back to the Dante network or to an AN-16/o v.4 Output Module for simplified connections to musicians’ wireless in-ear transmitters. With Network Mix Back, transmitters for wireless in-ears can easily be set up off stage and cabling for the personal mixers on stage is simplified. In addition, both D800s serve as a communications hub for iOS devices connected via an Ethernet WiFi router. iOS support for the A360 is scheduled for release later this year.

HARMAN’s Martin Professional Announces Winner of Annual Young Lighting Designer Contest

AARHUS, Denmark — HARMAN’s Martin Professional today announced Garou Blancan as the winner of its 2014 Professional Young Lighting Designer contest. Throughout the month of February, young amateur lighting designers from around the world competed for a chance to win by programming their ultimate show to a music track of their choice and submitting it the Martin Facebook page. Blancan will be presented as the winner during the 2014 Martin Professional Prolight + Sound Press Conference at 4 PM on Thursday, March 14 at the Martin Booth A93 (Hall 9.0).

As the first place winner, Blancan, a 25 year old Belize-born Canadian, has been awarded an all expenses paid trip to the 2014 Prolight + Sound Expo in Frankfurt Germany as well as with a Martin MG20™ lighting controller. The MG20 is a powerful yet compact controller that is easy-to-use and offers 10 fader playbacks, an external video screen, an effects generator, as well as a host of other features.

Now armed with an MG20 controller to further his already fantastic creative abilities, we are very excited to see Garou put together many great shows in the future.”

A winner was chosen through a simple process: Facebook users voted for their favorite shows and the three shows with the most votes were then judged by a three-person panel consisting of last year’s winner, Brad Helzer, Martin Professional’s Global Product and Application Specialist, Theis Wermuth, and Pelletier.

Tightrope Elevates Instant Replay Capabilities for Georgia Tech Sports

Versatile slo-mo instant replay system instrumental in diversifying content for broadcast and in-venue productions

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, March 12, 2014 – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets athletic department comprises 17 sports teams competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), with a dedicated legion of fans inside and outside the student/alumni community. The university rewarded its men’s and women’s basketball fans with upgraded game production capabilities prior to last season, delivering a vastly improved live sports experience for fans in the arena and watching the ESPN3 broadcasts.

The production upgrades, first centralized in the Hank McGamish Pavilion’s new control room, have since been extended to other venues on campus via fiber connectivity. The result brings the benefits of a modern digital control room, including slo-mo instant replay courtesy of Tightrope Media Systems, to football and volleyball games – with baseball and other sports soon to follow.

Tightrope’s ZEPLAY slo-mo instant replay system was installed alongside a complement of new cameras, switching and signal processing gear designed to simplify technical operations and improve the fan experience. Georgia Tech Director of Video Operations Andy Blanton believes that they have achieved both with the new control room and remote fiber connections, noting ZEPLAY’s significance in both situations.

“The experience of sitting in the venue is very different from the experience of being at home,” said Blanton. “We’re contracted to provide exclusive and balanced content for the ESPN3 broadcasts while using the same equipment and cast of characters for the in-venue productions. We don’t want to show replays of a visiting team player lighting up the court with dunks and three-pointers to fans in the arena. ZEPLAY gives us the flexibility to highlight exciting Yellow Jackets play for the home fans and cover up some of that action to broadcast audiences.”

From an operational perspective, ZEPLAY has delivered an easy and intuitive platform for control room operators to quickly execute replays, tag content and build tailored highlight packages based on targeted audiences. The built-in multiviewer also helps the ZEPLAY operator understand which angles are best suited for the broadcast and the in-venue production.

Perhaps most important to Blanton is the ability to quickly – and natively – archive and export clips, as the team is tasked with sharing content with multiple sources almost immediately following games. Similarly, much of that archived content is seamlessly imported back into the workflow to show recent highlights in subsequent games.

“We have a system in place to send footage straight from ZEPLAY to the conference office, which they distribute to the opponent we played that night,” said Blanton. “We share that same content, including a melt of highlights, with a multitude of recipients including media, our partners and our coach’s show. We simply hit the archive button and export those clips to the different recipients, with no transcoding required. ZEPLAY natively delivers content to three different editing systems in our case: Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Avid. It’s an enormous time-saver for our staff.”

Blanton adds that he’s been able to train operators to use ZEPLAY “within minutes,” including tagging plays with the right information to further accelerate the post-game archive-and-export process. That simple tagging capability also helps his operators keep track which players are hot, as well other developing trends of a game to create home and visitor highlight packages.

Further down the road, Blanton plans to integrate a Tightrope Carousel digital signage solution into the overall workflow to deliver content to display screens Hank McGamish Pavilion. He cites the cost and flexibility of Tightrope solutions as an overall attraction.

“We expect to incorporate Carousel into future marketing efforts, but the price point and feature sets of both products made the purchases an easy decision,” said Blanton. “We initially had another instant replay system in mind. Our consultant, Anthony James Partners, suggested that with just a little more money we could get a far more robust system in ZEPLAY that performs just as well as the high-end, expensive instant replay solutions. That recommendation, along with positive reviews, really swayed our decision to go with Tightrope.”

Sonnet Ships Quietest and Most Compact Thunderbolt 2-to-PCIe Expansion Chassis

Echo(TM) Express SEL Delivers Thunderbolt 2 for Low-Profile PCI Express(R) Cards

IRVINE, Calif. — March 11, 2014 — Sonnet today announced the Echo(TM) Express SEL, the latest addition to the award-winning Echo Express line of Thunderbolt(TM) 2-to-PCIe(R) expansion systems. Like the other members of the Echo Express family, the SEL enables the use of a wide variety of high-performance PCI Express(R) (PCIe) cards — originally designed for use in desktop computers — with any Mac(R) computer with a Thunderbolt port. The new model is the smallest and quietest Echo chassis yet, and supports one low-profile PCIe card.

The Echo Express SEL incorporates ultra-fast Thunderbolt 2 technology, which delivers twice the bandwidth of Thunderbolt and provides sufficient throughput to support many of the highest-performing and most demanding PCIe cards. The new expansion chassis is ideally suited for use with high-bandwidth networking cards, host bus adapters, and storage interface cards, allowing them to connect with Thunderbolt-enabled iMac(R), Mac mini, MacBook Air(R), and MacBook Pro(R) computers, as well as Mac Pro(R) computers that lack PCIe expansion slots. Plus, the Echo Express SEL’s dual Thunderbolt 2 ports not only support full-bandwidth connectivity with 20 Gb/sec Thunderbolt 2-equipped host computers, but provide full backward compatibility with 10 Gb/sec Thunderbolt-equipped computers and devices, and support daisy-chaining of other Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt devices.

The Echo Express SEL supports low-profile, single-width PCIe 2.0 x8 cards. The majority of the most popular Thunderbolt-compatible 16Gb and 8Gb Fibre Channel, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, SAS and SATA host bus adapters, and RAID controller cards fall into this category, making the SEL a perfect match for users needing a discrete, quiet, and yet very fast PCIe chassis to connect one of these specialized interface cards to their computers. Thunderbolt 2 technology is essential for enabling many high-performance cards, such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet, to yield optimal performance over Thunderbolt. For example, in a test using Small Tree Communications’ dual-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet CAT6 Network Adapter with the Echo Express SEL, performance increased by 40 percent compared to the same card tested in a standard 10 Gb/sec Thunderbolt-to-PCIe chassis. The list of compatible PCIe cards is available on Sonnet’s website, and is continually expanding as more cards are tested and certified.

Measuring 4 inches wide by 8.4 inches long by 2.8 inches tall and weighing just 1.75 pounds, the Echo Express SEL is compact and lightweight, yet its rugged aluminum case provides great protection for the installed card. The SEL features an ultra-quiet, temperature-controlled fan to help keep even warm cards cool. When not needed, the fan slows down to a whisper. The SEL is Sonnet’s quietest expansion chassis yet.

The Echo Express SEL ships with an 80W external power adapter, keeping the system’s energy usage low. The SEL also conserves energy by automatically powering on whenever the connected computer powers on or wakes, or powering off when the computer powers off or sleeps. Sonnet includes a cable locking mechanism that secures the Thunderbolt connectors and prevents accidental cable disconnects. Like the other models in the Echo Express family, the Echo Express SEL was designed, engineered, and built by Sonnet in California.

“Many of our customers that have only one PCIe card, such as a high-speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, or high bandwidth storage interface card, need the increased performance of Thunderbolt 2 but want the smallest and quietest chassis possible,” said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. “Now, users purchasing a new Mac Pro, or other Thunderbolt 2 technology-enabled computers, will be able to take advantage of the groundbreaking performance of Thunderbolt 2 technology using Sonnet’s most affordable Thunderbolt 2-to-PCIe card expansion chassis.”

The Echo Express SEL (part number ECHO-EXP-SEL) is now available for $399 USD. More information on the product and compatible PCIe expansion cards is available at www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpresssel.html.
