Archimedia Announces New Version of Master Player With High-Performance Features and Support for Compressed Audio

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — March 19, 2014 — Archimedia Technology, a new company whose technology and applications bridge the gap between content producers and their archives without loss of quality, today announced the Archimedia Master Player v1.7. The new version boasts high-performance features, the ability to handle compressed audio, and added support for even more formats, making it a truly format-agnostic player.

The Archimedia Master Player is in use around the world by customers from all aspects of media and entertainment. Three major studios use the player in 2K and 4K cinema production. Two major TV and cable networks and a major online VOD provider use it in quality control for distribution and 4K testing. In addition, three major postproduction providers, including Crawford Media Services and DAMsmart, and five major institutional archives, have made the player a critical part of their workflows, as has MyEye Media, the leading QC service provider to the movie studios. Recently, award-winning independent filmmaker Robert Berger relied on the Archimedia Master Player to free him from finding DCP screening rooms as he travels to promote his award-winning film, “Charlie Victor Romeo.”

“We’ve made it our mission to ensure that the Archimedia Master Player supports not only the largest, most demanding master media in the world today, but also the smallest, most common formats used by the world’s major distributors. No other player supports such a wide range of formats and still gives media professionals the tools they need to view and play out to any screen,” said Josef Marc, Archimedia chief marketing officer. “Cracking the compressed-audio problem opened up support for the last remaining group of unsupported formats and allows users to hear their audio with their video without having to change players. The wider range of SD-to-4K formats will allow people to be more creative in where and how they use the player, such as bringing master formats like DCP, DPX, and uncompressed video to screening rooms and conference situations.”

As part of its commitment to support any format, Archimedia has added support for more formats to version 1.7 based on both customer requests and standardization efforts such as IMF. Archimedia has extended support for the DPX format to the largest RGB, 16 bit, and 4K sizes and added support of Grass Valley’s GXF wrapper. Avid’s DNxHD format was already supported when wrapped in MXF, but now it is also supported when wrapped in Apple’s MOV, enabling customers to mix operating systems in a single workflow (such as Avid in Windows(R) with Final Cut(R) in Mac OS(R)).

In version 1.7, Archimedia introduces performance enhancements to address UHD and 4K Cinema in DPX, TIFF and JPEG2000. Due to the extremely large size of the files, it has been a challenge to play these materials smoothly in real time without any impact on quality. An industry-first automatic quality-adjustment coaxes the best performance from the hardware, enabling the Player to play the most demanding JPEG2000 Level 7 lossless 4K video at normal speed. A new pre-caching feature makes it possible for the Player to open and read very large DPX and TIFF file sequences fast enough to present a smooth viewing experience, eliminating the need to render/transcode into a viewable format and tie up a more costly and billable room.

Whereas previous versions played only uncompressed master audio, Archimedia Master Player v1.7 plays formats with compressed audio — such as AAC, AC3, MP2, and MP3 — common among distribution formats. This capability allows customers to use the Archimedia Master Player to view both the distribution copies and their higher-resolution source masters in the same workflow.

Archimedia will demonstrate the Archimedia Master Player v1.7 at the 2014 NAB Show in booth C2453H. The new version is available now from Archimedia at www.archimediatech.com and is shipping with all Archimedia Workstations. The upgrade is free for existing customers in their Archimedia Master Player when connected to the Internet and by download from the Archimedia website.

Information about the Archimedia Master Player, including an online demo, a free trial, and online purchasing, is available at www.archimediatech.com.

Forbidden Technologies Unveils New Customer-Driven Features for FORscene Cloud Post-Production Platform

LONDON — March 19, 2014 — Forbidden Technologies plc (AIM:FBT), the AIM-quoted owner and developer of the market-leading cloud video platform FORscene, announced new features and integrations for its market-leading platform, which is already the most advanced cloud-based post-production system available.

“FORscene has been a staple among users in the broadcast industry for ten years, and that is only possible because we make a point of integrating customer feedback into every iteration of the product. After all, who better to help us shape the product than the people who use it every day?” said Greg Hirst, business development director, Forbidden Technologies plc. “With this latest release, we’re unveiling more than a dozen new features that fulfil customer requests and ensure the platform continues to deliver beyond expectations.”

FORscene’s new high-resolution proxy allows users to choose the resolution they want — and swap between resolutions while working — to accommodate bandwidth availability and project requirements. Working with proxies, even for high-resolution viewing, means that the original source remains on the clients’ servers and firmly in their control.

Forbidden has also made significant improvements to the FORscene edit interface and toolsets that speed up workflows and keep the focus on creating the story. With new customisation options, users can now set up and save different keysets and interface layouts to suit their preferences. Other edit interface upgrades include a new record timeline patch panel, half-speed playback for improved logging and transcription, and improvements to trimming, audio editing, and publishing tools that contribute to FORscene’s speed, convenience, and ease of use.

The new site manager interface reflects FORscene’s ethos of providing advanced functionality in a simple way. Site managers will be less reliant on Forbidden support staff to configure and manage accounts as these tools are now available to them online in a user-friendly format. Furthermore, as part of a cloud upgrade to support new file formats, Forbidden has updated the operating system on the ingest server to Raspbian Wheezy, which includes the latest FFmpeg and other transcode-related libraries. This move enables support for more file formats on ingest and also increases the security of the server.

In addition to those changes, improvements to FORscene Server Lite allow for even more efficient remote news workflows. Users can now regulate the use of upload bandwidth in Windows so as to limit interference with other bandwidth-intensive applications. Also, the server now provides an estimate of duration until given files are compressed and fully uploaded to the cloud, providing guidance on how long the user must wait until it is safe to disconnect the computer.

All the new features, as well as Forbidden’s new logo and branding, will be on display at the 2014 NAB Show in booth SL5305. More information about FORscene can be found at www.forscene.co.uk. More information about Forbidden Technologies can be found at www.forbidden.co.uk.

“It’s an honor to be named an exclusive distributor by RTW,” says Kubacki. “We’ve enjoyed a great working relationship with them in the past 20 years, and their innovative metering solutions are truly the best in class, in great demand by the professional audio community. With professional audio production and delivery becoming more refined, we’re thrilled to work with a company that offers our customers exceptional reliability and quality.”

Magnetic Media has distributed professional audio products to virtually all of the major radio stations in Poland, including Polish Radio Warsaw; Radio RMF, Cracow; Radio ZET Warsaw; the AGORA Radio Group (including TOK FM) and Radio ESKA, among others. It also counts Polish Television (TVP) as a client. As part of its relationship with RTW, it distributes the RTW TouchMonitor line of audio metering products.

“In the past two decades, we’ve watched Magnetic Media grow alongside the Polish market for audio equipment, and have found the company to be an outstanding representative of our products,” says Arjen Hofland, International Sales Manager, RTW. “It has high-profile customers across Poland, and its customer service is second to none. Spanish Rental Company Fluge Chooses to Equip their Consoles with Waves MultiRack

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL, March 18, 2014 — Fluge, a Madrid, Spain-based rental sound company, is the latest high-profile user to equip their consoles with tools from Waves Audio. Fluge supplies professional sound equipment for concert tours, corporate events, musicals, installations and any productions that involve live professional audio. Aside from its headquarters in Madrid, Fluge has domestic branches in Barcelona, Zaragoza, and Valencia and international branches in Shanghai and Panama City. Employing Waves’ MultiRack SoundGrid® and SoundGrid servers, Fluge has supplied Waves-enabled consoles for the musicals Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar and Grease and for artist tours by Melendi (console: DiGiCo D5), Pablo Alborán (Avid D-Show), Alejandro Sanz (DiGiCo SD7), Dani (Yamaha CL-5), and Violetta (DiGiCo SD5).

Fluge’s Technical Director Raúl Méndez says: “In the past few years, Fluge has been investing in Waves tools with the objective of having Waves plugins available for our vast range of Avid Venue consoles. Now, with Waves’ SoundGrid technology and the ability to run Waves plugins in low latency with MultiRack on all consoles, we have decided to equip our stock of Yamaha and DiGiCo consoles with Waves tools as well.”

Mendez adds: “One of the great benefits of using Waves is, without any doubt, the fact that we don’t have to carry heavy FX racks like we used to. Nowadays, for instance, we are replacing the TC6000 system with the Waves IR-Live convolution reverb. It is a great benefit to our operation since it saves space and weight in transit. The great sound and easy solutions Waves Audio supplies are an absolute must for a company like ours.”

Touring Musician and Entrepreneur Jamie Kent Relies on Bose® L1® Systems on the Road

The L1® system helps Kent dial in his band’s sound for venues nationwide, and the support he receives from Bose® staff are the perfect fit for the independent troubadour

Framingham, Massachusetts, March 18, 2014 – Jamie Kent is a cut above the average singer-songwriter. Not merely an acclaimed musical act and creative voice with soulful and rootsy influences, Kent is fiercely independent and entrepreneurial, creating a unique business model (known as “The Collective”) that has helped him build his fanbase from the ground up. He has since expanded “The Collective” concept to “The Collective Music Group,” which sees Kent consulting other artists on how to build their fanbases after Kent’s example. As he tours the country with his band, Kent travels with two L1® Model II systems from Bose® Professional Systems. Relying on the sound of the L1 systems and working with the artist community of fellow Bose L1 users, Kent has been able to advance his career by thrilling audiences with accomplished performances and building strong relationships with other like-minded independent artists.

A few years ago, Kent connected with Matt Szlachetka, the primary guitarist/vocalist for California-based act The Northstar Session. The two bonded over their shared roots (the same hometown in western Massachusetts), and Szlachetka got Kent in touch with Bose and exposed him to the L1 system, which he has used ever since. Immediately, the Bose team welcomed Kent into the fold, forging a close relationship that Kent values to this day. “My Bose people are my close friends, and they would do anything for me,” Kent notes. “The level of support that Bose provides is something that you don’t see from many companies.”

The L1 Model II systems have been a more-than-welcome addition to Kent-and-band’s stage setup. Running through the L1 systems are vocals, keyboards, acoustic guitar, banjo and accordion. For the full band lineup, Kent will use two L1 systems, and shows with a streamlined lineup will usually use a single L1 Compact system. Kent notes, “The sound of the L1 system is just what we need – things sound right and pure, which makes us comfortable on stage. I am admittedly very picky about my vocals, and the L1 system helps me capture an authentic quality when I sing. And we couldn’t believe how light and easy to pack it was – with the amount of gear we have, that was key. Aside from that, what we really appreciate is the automated and customizable settings. Each venue is different, but once we get a sound dialed in, we can call it up and tweak accordingly. The on-board instrument presets on the T1 ToneMatch® audio engine help bring out the natural qualities of each instrument, which we can also alter when we need to. Things started out amazing when we first used the L1 Model II system, and they’ve just gotten better and better as we have homed in on our sound. It’s like traveling with your own sound guy, because the settings are matched to you every night.”

The community of independent artists has helped Kent expand his reach: “The Northstar Session and other artists that we work with are very close – we all support each other and help each other with booking and playing shows,” he states. “It’s a tightly knit community, and it has helped all of us grow in our careers while making good friends and inspiring one another. And Bose is there too, helping us grow in a big way. It’s a great thing to be a part of.”
